"Today will be better," promised Andrea Wells to herself in the mirror. "It was just a dream, and you can go back to school thinking nothing of it."

"Andrea! Get down here! You're going to be late for your first day of high school!" screamed Mrs. Wells from downstairs. Andrea quickly brushed her hair and thumped downstairs, her long, dark hair bouncing as she did so.

Andrea's blue eyes seemed to glow with hate. Her uniform was worn unwillingly. Her expression always seemed to say "I wish I wasn't here right now."

"What are you wearing, young lady?" interrogated Mrs. Wells.

"My uniform," replied Andrea dully.

"That scarf! It's out of uniform! Put it back this instant!" barked Mrs. Wells. Andrea rolled her eyes and went back to her room to return the scarf she was wearing.

"Bye Mom," mumbled Andrea as she rushed out the front door of her home.

"Have a nice time, honey!" encouraged Mrs. Wells, in an almost sickening change of tone.


Andrea was just within walking distance of her school, so no bus transportation was provided for her area. She had walked just over a mile to get to her school. As she walked through the large double doors of her private school, a shrill bell rang, and what few students were left in the hallways rushed to their classrooms. Then, Andrea gasped and her pupils dilated.

"I really don't know where it is!" screamed a frightened looking elderly woman. She was standing in her living room, being threatened by a large man with an axe.

"HAND IT OVER, ESTER!" barked the man. The lady remained quiet. "I MEAN IT!"

Then, the man lifted the axe, and struck the elderly woman.

Andrea screamed, and came out of her trance.

"MISS! YOU ARE LATE! DETENTION AFTER SCHOOL TODAY!" yelled a large man. Andrea gasped, for this was the man in her vision!

The rest of the day went on normally for Andrea, or at least she had no more visions. She served her detention, and walked home depressedly.

Why did I see that? she thought to herself. Is it true?


"In other news. This morning, an elderly woman by the name of Ester Pawlitz was found dead in her small home last night. We have heard that her killer struck her several times with an axe-"

"Oh my God!" cried Andrea, shutting the television off and running upstairs into her room.

"Andrea? What's wrong?!" shouted her mother from downstairs.

"Everything," mumbled Andrea so that her mother could not hear. She heard footsteps come upstairs, and knew her mother wanted to have a "talk" with her. Her door opened, and Mrs. Wells sat on the bed, by Andrea.

"You can tell me anything, you know, right?" ensured Mrs. Wells.

"No, Mom, I don't think I can this time," replied Andrea, staring down at the carpet in front of her bed.

"You didn't lose your virginity, did you, Andrea?"

"No! Go away!"

"Andrea, please, I want to know what's wrong."

"You have to promise you'll take me seriously, then."

"I promise."

"Okay. Well, I've been having this vision. It's about this old lady getting killed. Then, today, I saw the guy that killed her at my school. Just now, her death was on the news. I think my vision really happened!"

"Maybe it was just a coincidence?"

"No! This was real! She was killed with an axe, like in my dream! I think I'm psychic."

"Psychic? More like psycho. I raised you not to believe in those things, Andrea!" scolded Mrs. Wells.

"Mom! You promised!" shouted Andrea.

"I'm sorry, honey. Maybe you should see a psychiatrist?" her mother said, with that sickening change of tone again. Just then, Andrea gasped, and her pupils dilated. Her eyes seemed to light up.

"Hello, I'm Thomas Summers. I came to speak about your benefits, correct?" said the large man, who's name was apparently Thomas.

"Yes, come in!" said Ester Pawlitz cheerfully. Thomas closed the door behind him, and he glared.

"I know you have the stone somewhere! Hand it over now!" he shouted, lifting an axe from behind his back.

"Wh-what stone?" Ester asked shakily.

"I know you have the diamond! Give it up!"

"I really don't know where it is!"...

"Andrea? Andrea, snap out of it!" shouted Mrs. Wells, waving her hands in front of Andrea's face.

"Mom? I had another vision. I know who did it!" cried Andrea, getting up to grab her cellphone from her dresser.

"Andrea, stop! How do you know you're right?" scolded Mrs. Wells.

"I may not be, but it's worth it! I've been right so far!" shouted Andrea. She quickly dialed the numbers 9-1-1, and pressed the phone to her ear.

"Sacramento 911, what is your emergency?" queried a female operator.

"Uh, I wasn't sure who to call, but I know who killed Ester Pawlitz," said Andrea.

"Well, if this is a tip, I'm afraid you have to call the Sacramento Police Department, and leave this number open for real emergencies."

"Yes ma'am. I'm sorry."

"There should be no problem," ensured the operator, hanging up.

"Andrea, what are you doing?" demanded Mrs. Wells.

"Calling the police," replied Andrea simply. She dialed the number for the actual police department, and waited for an answer.

"Sacramento Police Department, Deputy Richard Arnolds speaking," voiced a man.

"I have, uh, a tip about the murder of Ester Pawlitz," said Andrea nervously.

"Well, what is it, gal?" barked the Deputy.

"Uh, well, I know who killed her. I can't say how or why, but it was a guy named Thomas Summers."

"Do you have any proof?"

"Well, not really. I bet if you checked, you could find evidence that it's him."

"Will do, girly, but no guarantees. Goodbye."

Andrea hung up and left the room.


"Breaking news. A new development has been made in the Ester Pawlitz murder case. This afternoon, Roger Summers was taken into custody for premeditated murder of her. That is all for now," droned a woman on the five o' clock news. Andrea gasped. Her vision was right!

One Saturday morning, Andrea awoke and thought. Should I see a psychiatrist? she thought to herself. Finally, she made the decision to see Dr. Madeline Worth. Andrea hopped on her bicycle and rode down to Dr. Worth's office.


"Excuse me, can I see Dr. Worth?" requested Andrea while staring at the secretary awkwardly.

"Do you have an appointment?" asked the secretary snobbily.

"Well, no-"

"I'm sorry, you must have an appointment to see Dr. Worth."

"It's urgent!"

"What is it?"

"I can't tell you." Then, Dr. Worth entered the waiting room.

"What seems to be the problem?" she asked with her hands on her hips.

"She doesn't have an appointment, Madeline," replied the secretary before Andrea could say anything. She wore a stern face.

"Good for her, I don't have any appointments scheduled for this block. Come on in," said Dr. Worth welcomingly.


"So, Andrea, what do you want to talk about?" asked Dr. Worth.

"Well, it's kind of weird," mumbled Andrea.

"Please, go on."

"Okay. You know the Ester Pawlitz case?" Andrea queried. Dr. Worth nodded.

"I had a vision about it, and it happened. It was weird, because I saw the guy at my school, and-"

"So you're saying that you predicted that this would happen?"

"Actually, I gave the anonymous tip that led the police to the killer." Dr. Worth scribbled something on a small notepad and nodded.

"What do you think this is?" asked Dr. Worth.

"I think I'm psychic." Dr. Worth jotted down another note.

"Well, Andrea. It does appear that this could be a coincidence. The mind can play tricks on you sometimes."

"No, it was exactly the same. I heard the names of them, and saw how she was killed. With an axe."

"Andrea, I think I can safely assume that you are a medium."

"Really? That was quick."

"I've seen this before, sweetie. I'm going to have you look at these cards. Well, no, you won't see them. I'm going to have you turn your back, and then you have to say what cards I have laid out," Dr. Worth explained. She got up and pulled something from her drawer, and sat back down in her leather chair. Then, she made Andrea turn, and laid out five cards with pictures on them. "What are these?" asked Dr. Worth.

"I don't think it works this way."

"Just take a guess if you need to."

"Well-" Andrea stopped and gasped. Her pupils dilated.

"What are these?" asked Dr. Worth, after laying out five cards with pictures on them.

"I got it! Star, tree, woman, moon, triangle," Andrea recited.

"Correct! You can turn here now. I want you to do the same thing again, except look up so I can see your eyes, but you can't see the cards." Dr. Worth shuffled her deck of picto-cards and laid five different ones. Andrea thought, and went through her pre-vision sequence.

"...see the cards," finished Dr. Worth. She laid out five new cards after shuffling the deck.

"Sun, dog, crayon, dollar sign, euro mark," recited Andrea quickly. "I see it in a vision when you do that."

"That's good! I noticed that before you have a vision, your pupils dilate, but your eye color glows. This means that your eye is expelling all light from it, then producing its own light for some odd reason. It's as if you're in a trance," explained Dr. Worth.

"Okay, I don't care, I just want to know why I have visions."

"Okay then," said Dr. Worth with her lips pursed. "I see. It's genetic. A personality gene of sorts must have been spread to your family tree long ago, and made its way into you. It's very rare."

"So, I'm a freak?"

"No, I, myself wish I could have that."

"No, you don't. You don't know what I've had to see."

"What have you had to see, Andrea?"

"For one, that Ester lady getting killed."

"I see. I'm sorry. Perhaps we should meet tomorrow? No charge. I'm very intrigued at this."

"Sure."

Andrea walked into Dr. Worth's office for her appointment, and luckily was brought back at once.


"So, Andrea, I did some thinking last night. I have discovered what your ability is. See, most humans use around ten percent of your brain. I am predicting that you use around one hundred percent of your brain. The phenomenon of telekinesis is often related to this statistic. Your ability is a sort of intuition. Your brain has a higher level of instinct than anyone, like the Allseeing Eye. You are predicting behavior accurately without knowing it, or even observing anything relating to the subject," Dr. Worth explained.

"So, how much do I use, then?" asked Andrea.

"I don't know. I would like to run a test on you, if I have your permission."

"Yeah, go ahead." Dr. Worth left the room for a moment, and returned with a large, squeaky cart. She pulled a few wires from it and plugged them into the wall, and then grabbed some cords that looked like they came from a polygrapher. Dr. Worth then attached a few things to Andrea as if she was taking a lie detector test.

"Is this a lie detector?" wondered Andrea aloud.

"Yes, dear. Well, no. It's the same technology, detecting brain activity. Look at this monitor. Red will show up as increased activity. Most humans don't have any red; mostly lower valued colors like green."

"Should I care?"

"Keep a civil tongue. Now, I want you to tell me what time I went to the market yesterday," Dr. Worth said firmly. Andrea gasped with pupils dilated.

Dr. Worth entered the large grocery store. Above was an analog clock.

"7:21 at night?" Andrea proposed, knowing she was correct.

"Correct. I studied your brain activity. When you're in that trance, all parts of your brain are at one hundred percent of use. Your brain is a super computer, if you will."

"This is all so crazy. Why do I have this? Can't I get rid of it?"

"I'm afraid not."

"Okay, can we do more cards?"

"That was what was next on the agenda," said Dr. Worth with a smile and a giggle. Andrea turned around, and Dr. Worth laid five cards out. Andrea quickly went through a vision.

"Heart, smiley face, star, square, milk," recited Andrea.

"It seems we have consistent results. Now remember when I talked about telekinesis relating with brain activity? I want to see if you can do that."

"No way I can do that."

"Try. I will place this card, the house, on the coffee table. I want you to focus on the card, and do what you can do." Andrea stared at the card, and twisted her face as if that would make the card move. Suddenly, Andrea went into her vision state.

"Eva, no need to do this. Put the gun down," spoke a man calmly. He was standing on the roof of a skyscraper.

"NO! NOT AFTER WHAT YOU DID!" screamed Eva. Before the man could speak, she fired a shot from her pistol, and he fell with a groan of pain. He writhed on the floor, and could only communicate with bloody coughs. Then, on the edge of the building, he jerked and fell off of the side. Eva dropped the gun off of the building, following him.

Andrea gasped again. Then, looking around, she saw something even more frightening. Not only had the card moved, but papers covered everything in the now dissheveled room. Dr. Worth's glasses were pressed against her shocked, wrinkled face.

"Oh my God! What happened?" asked Andrea, shocked.

"You went into a trance and made everything blow away from you! I have no idea how this could have happened, Andrea! Strange, strange, strange, strange-"

"I had a vision! This man and this woman were arguing, and she shot him, and he fell, and then he fell off the side of the building they were on! It was horrible!"

"It appears this vision gave you an ability somehow. I don't think it will last long, though, so beware. I, I, I, I don't know, in all my years, you just, and then, and-"

"Are you okay, doctor?"

"Oh, what? Oh, yes, yes, fine, dear."

"I have school though. Papers can't fly everywhere every time I have a vision! Is there a way to prevent this?"

"Why would you want to? Oh, sorry, nevermind. Well, considering that your whole brain is used in this process, it would be too dangerous to operate. You'll have to let me think. Same time tomorrow?" Andrea nodded and left.

"I have an appointment scheduled for Dr. Worth about now," said Andrea to the secretary the next day. She nodded and motioned towards a door leading to her office.


"So, Andrea. I thought a little. I do not think I can make this thing of yours go away. Although, I have a few theories as to why you have it. My first is that you have synesthesia," explained Dr. Worth.

"What's synesthesia?" asked Andrea.

"Crossing of the senses. Seeing sounds, smelling what you see and what not. I think you're hearing what you feel. Hearing the history of an object-"

"But it's not like I was touching anything that was in my vision."

"Yes, and that leads me to a slightly better theory. Yes, it may be your 'intuition' thing. I still think that's the most likely cause. The thing is, there's no reason why you got telekinesis from that. I think you also might be seeing into black holes. There are tiny black holes everywhere around us. There are theories saying that they lead you into a different place and time."

"No, that doesn't make sense. A black hole would have to follow me."

"That's all I have. I-"

"I know! I know what I need to do! The murder hasn't been reported yet! I have to stop this from happening with telekinesis! God is using me to undo the wrongs!"

"That's purely religious belief, but you may have that because of you needing to stop this from happening. Andrea, are you listening?"

"I'm sorry I cheated on you. I cut it off before you even found out, I love you," rattled off a man. Behind him, an address was engraved in a stone tablet on a fire escape wall.

"No you don't. Put your hands up!" Eva screamed. Her watch read "12:11, 5-11-10."

"Eva, no need to do this. Put the gun down," spoke a man calmly. He was standing on the roof of a skyscraper.

"NO! NOT AFTER WHAT YOU DID!" screamed Eva. Before the man could speak, she fired a shot from her pistol, and he fell with a groan of pain. He writhed on the floor, and could only communicate with bloody coughs. Then, on the edge of the building, he jerked and fell off of the side. Eva dropped the gun off of the building, following him.

When Andrea came to, the room was yet again dissheveled.

"Did you have that vision again?" asked Dr. Worth.

"Yeah. I saw the address. It's gonna happen tonight! I have to stop it!"

"You can't control your telekinesis. How do you plan on stopping it with that?"

"I don't. I plan on calling the police. I-"

"Andrea, I don't think there's any completely logical explanation for this. However, I'll be happy to meet with you any time. Goodbye and good luck."


It was now half past ten at night. Andrea called the police and told them about what was going to happen as she had before.


"It appears that an anonymous tip has prevented the murder of Trent Pollick. After being unfaithful, his wife found out and planned to kill him on top of this building. In other news-"

Andrea turned off the television. She had saved a life. Now she knew why God gave her this ability. Andrea got off of the couch, and then gasped. A young blonde-haired girl was standing in the doorway of her living room. She couldn't have been more than six years old!

"Are you the girl that saved my daddy?" she asked creepily. Andrea nodded.

"I wish you hadn't done that. Now Mommy's gonna kill Daddy and my brother." Andrea blinked, and the girl disappeared.
