You see and hear them everyday. The f word, the s word and so on. But there are other words, retard, gay, lesbian, dike, etc (not sure if you mods would consider these profanity or not, so I apologize in advance) that you wouldn't want to be called.
For instance, if someone, anyone, who is mentally disabled, has trouble with anything, would you just randomly walk over and call them a retard? It's mean, it's rude, and unnecessary. Discuss.
I hear these words all the time. Some people find it appropriate to mix them into everyday language (My cousins' grandfather openly swears in front of his 8 year old grandaughter). I however don't feel that they should be used this way. Once in a while to express extreme emotion is fine, but overall I think that people use them far to much.
In a more casual society such Singapore, it is very common to hear such words all the time, even if they were in Hokkien or Cantonese or Malay.
If swear words didn't exist. We wouldn't have this problem

As far as "curse words" I don't know who came up with the idea that they are so bad. If you think about it, they are just synonyms for words considered "more" tolerable. I don't see what the big deal is they're just words. What's the difference in me saying the A-word or butt? Or saying the S-word and stuff?
There are no problems with words, nor are there any real shame or hate in the actual dictionary attached to words that we use as racists or hateful. It's the hate monger using the words that gives them the power to be 'bad words'.
Anyone else besides me remember a time when 'to f*** something' meant 'to hit something'?
I come from a world where using such words is such a common place, sometimes it is used as a positive gesture.... This is proof that the insinuation of such words is what makes them bad.
Although their original intent is a bad one, it can be adjusted properly. But due to that same reasoning, I do not believe it should be used in an everyday situation.
