That, combined with the US' gradually stalling economy, is not going to do anyone any good.
The problem with China is that the industry is more worried about money than the environment. You can't really expect the government to do that much about things right now, especially since they've been occupied with hosting the Olympics and all the politics in Tibet. Frankly, to China's government, there are just more "important" things than the environment, and being a utilitarian state, "unimportant" things are quickly left in disregard.
Poverty will get better, and after this generation, there's going to be a lot less "poor people," as Wombat crudely puts. The industries are providing massive employment opportunities, it's just up to the people to take them. You have give things time, poverty doesn't disappear overnight. Given a few more years, more strict working standards will come about, just like during the Industrial Shifts in the 19th century. China is going through its industrialization stage right now, so you just have to give it time, and be patient.
In case you thought that was a tl;dr, here are the main points:1. The environmental issues will get better once the government is freed up and the industrialization process matures.
2. Poverty will decrease, with the rapid expansion of industries providing labor.
3. Population will decrease, with the passing of this generation.
4. Work environments will improve, once the industrialization process matures.
To continue with my previous point, look at the factories during the Industrial Revolution. Why are you NOT complaining about THOSE factories? They were ALL burning coal, piping SHITLOADS of carbon dioxide, sulfuric acids, and who-knows-what into the air! And it wasn't just one country, it was ALL OVER THE WESTERN WORLD. China missed the boat back then when it was okay to be f***ing with the environment, but now it's catching up. YOU CAN'T EXPECT CLEAN FACTORIES TO JUST SUDDENLY POP-UP IN CHINA, no more than you can expect that to happen during the 19th century. Change takes time, give China a f***ing CHANCE to TURN ITSELF AROUND. Last time I read, the Western Industrial Revolution lasted a f*** LOT LONGER THAN JUST TWENTY YEARS. China is ALREADY KICKING ITS OWN ASS trying to cram several CENTURIES WORTH of development into such a short time. What the hell do you want from them?!
f***, if you want to get rid of a country so badly, GET RID OF THE U.S.A. This country wastes so much s*** it's f***ing MIND-NUMBING. And WHAT is America DOING to advance itself? WHAT is America DOING to advance its people? WHAT is America DOING to advance others? Of all the "first-world" countries, America is PRETTY FAR DOWN the list.
Wombat Wrote:Some times it seems like these countries are actually having a hard time keeping up with themselves......they are speeding up global warming, creating more and more poor people who the world just can't support. Both countries also take jobs away from people in the west, causing poverty elsewhere too.
First of all, global warming is probably a load of bullshit, but that's another discussion.
Second, if you want to talk about "poor people," take a gander at AFRICA; not only are the people poor, they've got medical issues, social issues, political issues, and practically no industry to speak of. Africa is the SICK CHILD of the world. If you've got the time and energy to waste on Africa, then CHINA isn't NEARLY a problem.
Thirdly, it's a little magical thing called CAPITALISM. That's why Joe lost his job last week, that's why that company shut down a month ago, and that's why China is on an ECONOMICAL RAMPAGE of a growth spurt. The West can NO LONGER COMPETE, so it's their OWN FAULT that they're LOSING JOBS BY THE MILLIONS. Your dad got laid off from his FACTORY JOB? Too BAD, because some girl in China can do the same job for A QUARTER OF THE PAY. When you can't compete with the prices, YOU LOSE, and if you have no other alternative and fall into poverty, TOO BAD. It's like BLAMING CD's for cassettes failing to COMPETE as a more compact and efficient storage media.
Holly crap, someone got feisty.
I can say everyone read your post, but it's.. Too well stuck together to counter?
I mean, I was thinking about it, but I was afraid you'd do what you just did. O.o.
Guess I'll give it a go now..
.. Yeah, your views on China "catching up" are profound and.. Well, great, but still, letting something phase through something that something else did a long time ago is flawed. It's like saying.. "Oh wow, Justin, you know that the Roman empire collapsed a long time ago.. You can't just carry around a sword and challenge people to join you or die, legally, that is." "ME: Dude, shut up, I'm trying to catch up with what happened earlier, you know, get my share."
Letting China bury itself knee deep in Environmental turd, and then let it pull itself out is just a waste, and lazy, way to co-operate with it. The damage done during that time is irreversible, while the damage planned to be done is preventable. Point being, if you stop it, whatever bad can come out of it is avoided, however, if you let it fix itself, the damage remains apparent, albeit with a better society at the worlds hands.
Okay, so, saying that China is allowed to follow through with it's industrial expansion, and then help itself out of it, whose to say countries that are sound like Australia wouldn't do the same? I mean, Australia, at least, when I read about it, wasn't in the Industrial Revolution. Whose to say Australia wouldn't evolve excessively like China?
My point being, Australia would be doing more damage to an already damaged world. The catch-up phase, though it could be deemed as necessary for industrial evolution, causes more negative things than positive ones. Our world cannot take this Evolution in industry, as we're but animals. Survival is essentially just food and water. We don't need all of this Industrial expansion. It's a want, not a need.
=].
Just throwing my two cents on "The greater good" in there.

.
Decimate me if you feel necessary.
Oh, and for the heck of it, the view on people losing there jobs to more cheaper folk is true.
I mean, people, instead of complaining about those working for 1/4 of the price, should make themselves worth the extra money. Work to the point were someone of an immigrant nature cannot replace the job that you do.
=/.
That, or get a better job. =D.
