When members think you have done somthing good, they will reward you with + reps.
If they think you have done somthing bad, they will give you a - rep.
Basicly, you get reps by having people give them to you.

to earn rep be nice to people and be friend to them or win the contest.

Just be nice, win contests and don't spam.
points are for posting,contests,and bieng generally nice.Reps are for the same reasons.
