So it's the 12th of November, at least over here in the UK. And well after the success of the Halloween Event we are looking to see what you want for the next event if we go ahead with it. In this case that would be a Christmas Event. Now we've already started to get some ideas of what we can do, but if we want to make this as successful as we want it to, I feel maybe we should get some ideas off you guys.

Therefore, here's your chance to let us know what you think we should do. Remember this can be anything within reason of course. So post here any and all ideas you have that could be used for this event and when we finally come up with the event, we'll post all the details before it happens so you are all prepared for the event.

Halloween Extravaganza!

Welcome one and all to the YCM Halloween Extravaganza! The moderators have banded together to host a forum-wide event for all members to participate in and enjoy at this dark and creepy time of year. As such, we are hosting the first ever Halloween Stamp Rally!

What is a stamp rally you ask? Well, in true Halloween style, you members will get to trick-or-treat the moderators in special threads posted throughout the forum. When you post, the moderator in charge of that thread will choose to trick or treat you. The tricks? Anything the moderator chooses: points, nothing, whatever they choose. The treat? A unique stamp showing that moderator's Halloween costume character.

What's the point you say? Collect all the stamps and you'll get a special prize!

Rules:
1. Please only trick or treat each moderator once per day. If you don't get the stamp today, try again tomorrow.
2. The event will end Monday evening (November 2) at 10pm forum time.
3. If you manage to get all the stamps (see list below for check-off), PM them to a Super Moderator when you have them ALL to be entered for your prize. Do not post here until you have all the stamps.

How will you know if you get all the stamps? Use the list below to check against when you receive a stamp.

New YCM Server

While everything looks the same, the site is now running on an entirely new, entirely more powerful server! I was able to complete the transfer with very little downtime, but as with most server relocations, you may run into some problems. Post any bugs or other such issues you find here.

Transfer your uploaded card images

All card images uploaded prior to June 11th will soon be deleted. Click here to transfer your uploaded images to the new image server. If it says you have no images that need to be transferred, I've either already done it for you or you never uploaded a card image prior to June 11th, 2009. Also, make sure you're logged in before you click that link.

Try to spread the word about this - I don't want anyone to lose their card images so I'll wait a few weeks before initiating the cleaning process. It should be pretty straight forward, but post here if you have any problems.

Need card maker volunteers

Hey everyone,
I'm working on transferring the card maker's uploaded images from the current server to a remote server, freeing up disk space and reducing bandwidth usage. I've written a script that will go through all your cards, and transfer the uploaded images you've saved to the new server. I need a few volunteers with a good number of uploaded images to volunteer their accounts - you won't actually have to do anything, and if everything works as it should, you won't even notice a difference. If the script doesn't work, however, there's a small chance you could lose some or all of your uploads. Post here if you're brave enough to volunteer, and you'll get 200 points out of it. Eventually, everyone will be migrated once I'm sure that the script is safe.

New features implemented to the Card Maker!

The Yugioh Card Maker now allows you to group your cards into "sets". Appearing as a drop-down menu next to the card list, each set serves as a virtual folder for your cards. You'll notice the "Save to set" checkbox next to the Set ID fields; checking this box will save your card into its respective set name. Otherwise, cards will be saved to the "Unsorted" set, where all of your existing cards are located right now. In addition to this, the Card Maker will now automatically select your set and card in the drop-down box after pressing the Save button. This should make it more obvious where your card was saved, and what you are currently editing. I hope you enjoy these updates to the Card Maker, and as always post any bugs you may stumble upon here.

I've been working on optimizing the server using a caching system, and most of the work is now complete. What this means is that you should notice a bit of a decrease in page load time plus a decrease if not complete cessation of the MySQL connection limit errors.

The maximum supported avatar size has been upped to 100x100, from 80x80. While this will increase the length of each page, it will allow for a cleaner look with the now active awards system.

Card Maker Updated

As you may have noticed, the Card Maker now gives users the ability to select subtypes. To do this, a massive database update was needed, so there may be some strange bugs. If you notice anything going awry, let me know. Also, if there are any other official subtypes that need to be added please let me know here. Thanks, and enjoy!

Awards

Awards can now be assigned to members by any person with the award-moderating status. Awards will appear in the user's profile, as well as under their Points total in their posts. Since this is still very new, I am working on some default awards (such as "Active Member since the beginning of the forum"). Eventually this will be integrated with something like the YCM Awards from before.

New Policy for the Usage of Artwork on Posted Cards

As posting members of Yugiohcardmaker.net, the expectation is that when you post your created yugioh cards on the forum, you have rights to be distributing the artwork used on the card. If you are using artwork created by someone other then you, the expectation is that you have done the following:
-Contacted the artist who created the artwork
-Received their permission to use their artwork on the yugioh card

You do not need to publicly display/show this proof, but if we receive a copyright infringement notification from the artist who created the artwork stating that they did not grant permission to use the artwork, we are required by law to take the card off of the site.

If you are an artist who would like to notify us that your art is being used without your permission, please fill out the following form and send it to plagiarism@yugiohcardmaker.net

1. An electronic signature of a person who has the rights to act on behalf of the creator of the artwork that is allegedly being infringed.
2. Identification of the artwork that is allegedly being infringed upon, or in the case that multiple artworks have allegedly been infringed upon, a list of those pieces of art.
3. Identification of the card/cards that are allegedly infringing upon the copyrights of the artwork, and a URL link to the card that is allegedly infringing upon the copyrights of the art.
4. An E-Mail address by which you can be contacted at.
5. A certifying statement that the user who created the card allegedly infringing upon a piece of art was not given permission by the owner/artist that they could use that work on their card.
6. A statement that the information given above is in fact accurate.

New Rule Regarding DeviantART

It is now required that the Members of YCM, ask permission from the artist, before using any images from DeviantART.

Due to recent concerns from DA members regarding the distribution of their art illegally, the rule has been implemented.

Members, MUST, ask permission first. Any threads that do not show permission from the artist (from DeviantART) will be deleted.
This must be done, and will not be tolerated, or avoided.

Picture Credits and Extensions

Members of YCM. Myself and the rest of the CC Section moderators, have decided to bring back the rule, where you must credit the artist of the pictures that you use for your cards.

Now this rule applies for the following Forums:
Realistic
Pop Culture
Any Other Cards
Contests <-- Upon Contest holders request

Now, for the first couple weeks, the moderators will be lenient when it comes to enforcing this rule, as we understand it will take sometime getting use to. I suggest you read the rules in either Forum, if you have any questions about them. You may also contact one of the moderators at any point in time.

Just a touch up on what crediting means. When we ask you to credit the artist, we mean that you must put the name of the artist somewhere in your thread or on your card. If you use a source other then DeviantArt, where there might not be a name of the artist, then simply provide the link to the picture within your thread.

This rule is to ensure that any other Forums (like DeviantArt) or any other sites, will be able to co-exist with the Yugioh Card Maker Forum.

Note: Disclaimers such as:
"I do not own the artwork I use. I simply use it to better enhance my cards." etc..

In signatures, and or threads. Will be ignored. They are not needed anymore, and will not suffice for the crediting rules.

ANY THREAD YOU SEE WITHOUT PROPER CREDIT, REPORT IT!

New Server; Forum Upgrades

In the coming days, this site will be upgraded to a new and much more powerful server to meet the growing demand. I decided to take this opportunity to also upgrade the forum's software and therefore reduce the amount of downtime that both tasks would normally require. There will be an undetermined amount of down time, however, but hopefully things will go smoothly and we'll be up and running relatively soon. This post is just to let you know what to expect.

Name Change Purchase Program

Due to popular demand we have decided not to stop name changes, however to decrease the amount of strain put on super mods, we have decided to introduce a purchase program. The rules apply as follows:

1) You must have more than 1200 posts to get a name change.
2) You cannot change your name more than once every three months.
3) Your first name change costs 1000 points.
4) Every subsequent name change costs 1000 points more than the change before it.

If you would like your name changed you must pm a super mod as usually, the mod will change your name and take the points.

The mod team has decided to eliminate name changes once and for all. You have one more week to request one more name change, and that will be your screenname forever.

We apologize for having to do this, but the amount of work we had to put in for it was simply outrageous. This is not up for debate, and if this discussion gets full of angry posters it will be locked.

Spammers: How to deal with them *Reminder 11/15/09

In the past few days, we have had some spam attacks in the form of stories and images. The mod team is dealing with them efficiently, and there is no need to worry about them. However, if you do come across an inappropriate thread report the topic to the moderators, do not post in the thread, and most importantly, do not make threads about such topics.
