The Featured Fictional Works are stories that stick out among the others, for reasons that may differ from story to story. Featured stories will be stickied, and reviewed in this thread. There will be a maximum of four featured stories at a time. If you wish to apply, read on.


Noteworthy

All applications will be handled in this thread. Applications sent by PM will be disregarded. Applications for a non-story thread will be disregarded. Applications for a thread which you are not the author of, or do not have explicit permission from, will be disregarded.

If the application of your story has been turned down, you may apply with that story again exactly 1 month from the date of your previous application. Violation of this rule results in an Intentional Spamming warning of 50% and a permanent banishment from further application.

Your story must have at least eight chapters or twenty-five thousand words, whichever is lower in your case. Featured writers must have had an account on this site for at least one month before applying. A Featured author must have made at least five hundred posts on this site before application.

They all looked for hotels that were close to the mountains and were cheap. After hours of searching, they found a hotel, but only had enough money for two rooms. Haris had a room to himself while Nena and Jodie had to share one. As they went into their rooms they looked at the place. The walls were peeling off; the bathroom looked like it wasn’t cleaned in years; the ceiling looked like it was going to collapse at any given minute; there were rats everywhere.

Jodie: This is a complete rip-off. They said that these were the best room that we could afford.

Nena: Well…I think these are the best rooms.

The Dark Knight, Mokuro and Anomu appeared in the street were Agas's house was, they walked across the road and through the alleyways, as they walked down the narrow street lane some drunk men noticed them, "hao there!, what you havin'? fancy dress!?" the drunk men then laughed, without getting stressed the Dark Knight nodded at Anomu, and he nodded back, Anomu then walked over to the drunk men and drew his sword, the men looked at the sword and laughed somemore, "what you expecting to do with that peice of plastic!?" Anomu then struck out with his sword, chopping all three mens heads off, he then put his sword in his scabeard then said to the mens heads, "that........." he then continued walking with the others to Agas's house.

“My turn, draw! I summon Frequency Magician. When this card is summoned, it gets 1 Spell Counter,” Jovi said, “I set 1 card, Turn End,” Jovi passed his turn quickly.

“A monster with 800 attack points? You gotta be kiddin’ me! Draw! Take this! Gangi’el, attack that stupid Spellcaster! Plasma Blast!” Depre shouted as he ordered his Cosmic Horror Gangi’el to attack Frequency Magician. Jovi activated his face-down Trap Card in response of Gangi’el’s attack.

“Trap Card, open! Magic Cylinder! You’ve given us slimes, now I’ll give it back to both of you! Counter attack!” 2 cylinders appeared. One cylinder absorbed the slimes Gangi’el shot, while the other one shot the slimes that were absorbed to Depre and Richie. Both of them were hit by the slimes, but they still stood strong. (Richie and Depre: LP 3800)

"Hope you're ready to lose!" smirked Sasuke, as he cracked his knuckles loudly. Renamon replied by cracking her neck and putting her fists up.

"I'm ready..."

In that moment, a bell rang, and as on command, Renamon and Sasuke rushed at eachother. Renamon started by kicking at Sasuke, but he managed to dodge. He counterattacked with an uppercut in Renamon's shin, and she flied into the air. However, she recovered by performing a back-flip in the air, and put her palms forward.

"Diamond Storm!" thousands of diamond shards appeared and rained down on Sasuke. Sasuke pulled a Kunai and parried the shards he needed, and used his extreme agility and acrobatics to dodge the rest. As Renamon landed, Sasuke made a few hand signs and put his index finger and long finger in front of his lips.

"Katon: Housenka no Jutsu!(Translation: Fire Style: Phoenix Fire Jutsu!)" Sasuke blew between his fingers, and several fireballs formed and charged at Renamon! She jumped to the side, and managed to dodge the attack in the last minute. But then, she felt a blow in her side. Sasuke had run up to her and punched her in the side! She flew a few metres away, but recovered before she hit the wall, jumped up on it, and bounced off it into the air. She suddenly made the same signs as Sasuke, and put her fingers in front of her lips!

"W-What?! How can she have...!" Kakashi was suprised, as Renamon finished the attack.

"Katon: Housenka no Jutsu!" she spat out several fireballs, and Sasuke did his best to dodge, but one of the fireballs hit him dead-on, and exploded.

Anyways, I'll be reviewing the works that have been featured here using the format shown in this here thread. That was my old review thread, but I kinda got swamped. Now, it'll be easier, since I don't have to write one for every person on here.

Activity: 1 Chapter per week. The last month, I haven't been in Belgium very much, and I've exams to prepare, so 1 long Chapter per 2 weeks will be a more realistic number for the last month and the following 2 weeks.

The Eliminator was tall, almost as tall as Saitu was (and he was very tall for his age) and wore a long black coat, with matching hat. The expression on his face was cruel, without any other emotion visible.
“Now fork it all over...I told you the rules, and you shall obey...” he told Alice while walking towards her slowly.
“Then give back my sister’s Deck!”
“I would, if you would have won...Now hand over your Deck and your locator Cards...”
He didn’t wait, he pulled the Deck out of her Duel Disk, along with her 4 Locator Cards.
“You bastard!” someone in the crowd yelled. Saitu tought that person was very courageous.
“I’m not a bastard...yet!” He ripped the Deck he had just conficated in two, throwing the pieces in the air. Alice stood there, motionless, while the remainings of her thrusty Deck landed on her feet. She started to tremble, and looked as if she would start crying.
“Now I’ll take the title of bastard and wear it with pride. I’m getting paid for each kid who I can chuck out of this tournament...So who’s up next?”
There was a long silence, in wich the Eliminator gazed over the crowd.
“I will!” Saitu yelled. he squeezed himself through the front row, into the Dueling Arena.
“Well well,a face I haven’t seen yet today...Allow me to explain the rules to you...”
“I think I know the Dueling rules already...”
“But this won’t be an ordinairy Duel...If you lose, I’ll hapilly take your Deck and all your locator cards...”
“Yeah..., like that ’ll ever happen...What’s in for me, Steve?”
“Well I...wait a minute...how do you know my name?”
“It’s sewn on the inside of your coat...very neatly done by the way...you know your job well!”
The crowd was somewhere between surprised and amused.
“I see...If you win, smart boy...Well you’ll get the 8 required Locator Cards...and all the Decks I had to confiscate...As for the Dueling, we will play with 8000 Life points...Considering my Burn Deck, it would be only fair...more to take away...”
“What about Alice’s Deck? You ruined hers...”
“There will be an arrangement for you little friend...”
“Okay! I agree! Let’s go!”

Example:
I stood facing my opponent, aware that my friends had fallen. I was in a tough spot, but I refused to back down. Win or lose, I would see this duel through to the end.

“To end my turn,” Karen said, “I place one card.”

“Good, that means I can start turning this game around.” I drew, “Activate ‘Pot of Greed’ to draw two cards. Next I activate ‘Soul Release’, combining it with the Continuous Spell card ‘Soul Absorption’. I remove five cards in my Graveyard from play and gain 500 Life Points per card (LP: 5600+(500x5)=8100). Next I Flip-Summon my ‘Gren Maju Da Eiza’, a fiend who’s base Attack always equals the number of cards that I have removed from play multiplied by 400.” A red fiend with a centipede-like body from the waste down appeared. From the waste up, he looked a lot like ’Great Maju Garzett’ (ATK: 400x5=2000).

“Sacrifice ‘Gren Maju Da Eiza’ to summon ‘Great Maju Garzett’, who’s Attack is equal to twice the Attack of the sacrificed monster’s base attack!” ‘Gren Maju’ dissolved into smoke that reformed into the huge skeletal fiend (ATK: 4000).

“Attack the ‘Toon Blue-Eyes’ with Vile Energy!” The fiend discharged his attack, trying to destroy the comical foe. But once again, my opponent was ready.

“Activate ‘Absolute End’,” Karen said, “causing your attack to bypass my monster and hit me directly.” The ‘Toon Dragon’ flexed around the beam, and it hit Karen in the chest (7000-4000=3000).

“Eh, you’ll get no complaints from me on that one,” I said. “End my turn. Make your last move.”

Karen drew and said, “You’re right, this is my last move, but not for the reasons you think. I’m ending this duel, not you. Spell card, ‘Megamorph’, doubling the attack of one monster that I control if my Life Points are lower than my opponent’s.” A glowing ring appeared on the ground beneath the ‘Toon Dragon’ and he flexed his muscles. They exploded out like mini volcanoes (3000x2=6000).

“You were planning this from the start of the duel,” I said, “weren’t you?”

“Since the first card was played,” Karen answered, arrogantly. “’Toon Skull’, attack directly with Lightning Strike!” a bolt of lightning struck me from above (Karen: 3000-500=2500/Me: 8100-2500=5600).

“Finish him, Burst Stream!” The Toon attacked (Karen: 2500-500=2000), bypassing my monster and hitting me directly. I couldn’t believe it. I had been defeated. It was all over. My team and I had fallen. The last thing I saw was the members of the Order walking away.

Then the world went black.

(5600-6000=0).

I have read later chapters of your fanfic which consists almost entirely of dialogue, including the example you posted.

Big Show theme

The World's Largest Athlete enters the arena to get the show underway. He walks to the ring with a look on his face that would suggest he wants to knock somebody's lights out.

"That man, the Big Show, has been telling people that he is determined to take out Dustin Delta. Every time Big Show tries to challenge Delta, the US Champion refuses."

"You never mess with an angry giant, and that's pretty much the reason, in my opinion, that Dustin Delta has refused Big Show's challenges."

*Bell rings*

"This opening contest is set for one fall!"

Big Show enters the ring and stares at his opponent, who is standing across from him. His opponent is a newly-signed superstar by the name of Hunter Steel. He's a young man with spiked blonde hair, a red wrestling attire consisting of wrestling tights and a t-shirt. He's about six feet tall.

"I've heard great things about this kid, Todd. However, I think he chose a bad time to make his ECW Debut."

"I completely agree, Matt. I heard that Hunter Steel is actually a former karate expert. I say former because he no longer does karate. Although I think it's safe to assume that he's still an expert."

"People say that someone who's skilled in karate can take down someone much larger than him with ease. In this situation, though, I gotta disagree. Big Show will take anyone down with that Knockout Punch. And once you're hit with that giant right hand, it's game over."

First Match: Big Show vs. Hunter Steel

Match: We get things started with a lock-up of sorts. Show, in a display of sheer power, tosses Steel halfway across the ring. The newcomer gets to his feet and charges Big Show, nearly falling victim to a Clothesline, avoiding in the last second. Steel hits some swift kicks to the back of the right leg of the Big Show, actually taking The World's Largest Athlete down to one knee. Steel climbs backwards up the turnbuckle as Show gets to his feet. Steel leaps and connects with a Diving Kick, shades of former ECW Champion Rob Van Dam.

"Wow this could actually do it here!"

Hook of the leg..1! 2! Big Show kicks out and pushes Steel into the ropes. Show, looking angry, picks Steel up and drops him, neck-first, onto the ropes. Steel's neck, obviously, hits the ropes before he falls to the mat. Steel grasps his neck, which is likely in a great deal of pain.

"That's what I'm talking about. Even though Hunter Steel was able to get in a good deal of offense, one move from the Big Show did more damage to Hunter than all of Hunter's moves did to Big Show."

Show literally hurls Steel into the corner. He looks to his left for a moment before turning around and shaking the arena with a devastating smack, straight to the chest of Hunter Steel. Steel falls to the mat. Show picks him up and Irish Whips him into the opposite turnbuckle. Steel crashes into the turnbuckle and falls backwards to the mat. Show waits for the newcomer to get to his feet, which takes a minute, before connecting with a Chokeslam to earn the victory.

Winner: Big Show

"And that's all she wrote!"

"A valiant display of effort on behalf of Hunter Steel, but nowhere near enough to take out The Big Show. Nonetheless, I think Steel has what it takes to make it big in this industry."
