I think the blessing on the armor would protect him somewhat. And it's not like little old Zelgius inside that armor is just a flimsy human. He's one of the Branded, that's gotta count for something.

Like I said the armor is blessed, something that's blessed doesn't simply, err, un-bless itself.

So no matter where they fought, his armor would still be blessed, and he'd still be unaffected.
