Running, running is my life. From running in the Clark High’s track team, to running from the police. I was born to run. The first and only thing I remember about my father is the day he gave me my running shoes. He had left my mom when I was born, then the day he came back in to my life he was killed in a knife fight. Those shoes were much too big for my small five year old feet. Now though, they fit perfectly. In fact I was wearing them just two years ago. I was running, from the police. It was after track, on a Monday. I ran through the streets of my ruthless, unforgiving city. I outran all the cops on foot, but I was cut off by my stepfather. He was friends with many of the police, since he once served with them before being shot. I was caught, arrested, and sentenced. If it had been anyone else they would have gotten off much easier, but that judge had seen me so many times he couldn’t take it anymore. He sentenced me to 2 years with parole. My mother cried, my stepfather looked at me with great pity, but I only felt hatred. I hated the judge for sentencing me so harshly, I hated my stepfather for letting me get caught, but most of all I hated myself. I wasn’t always such a bad kid. I used to have hopes, dreams, but as I got older they faded along with my heart. It seemed only fitting to blame myself because after all, I did this. When I arrived at me cell I met my cell-mate, Marcus. Marcus was a heavy-weight African American, with a love for technology. He had been arrested the month before for hacking the system of a small company. He and I became friends almost instantly. We were both sixteen, had shared a similar past, and wanted a similar future. It was Marcus who introduced me to Yu-Gi-Oh. He explained to me that in the small town he grew up in, Yu-Gi-Oh was the pass time. He taught me the rules, some strategies; he even started making cards out of paper so we could pass the time. After months of Marcus teaching me I finally thought I was ready to build my own deck instead of using the decks Marcus made for me. I spent all night making a deck I thought would be great. I don’t remember falling asleep, but I imagine it was somewhere between one o’clock am, and two o’clock am. What I do remember is waking up and finding the guards taking Marcus out of my cell. I had forgotten that Marcus’s sentence was shorter than mine. I remember feeling torn inside. They were taking my one friend away. Even though we were no longer cell-mates Marcus and I remained friends through letters, and the occasional visit. Finally now after two years, I am going to be released from this retched place. I started walking outside, wondering who was waiting for me. The guards let me out and I found only Marcus and his dog Coop. I was disappointed, but I was still happy. As Marcus and I left he showed me a real deck of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. My deck, the deck I had built the day he left. He had found the exact cards and gave it to me as a present. I was ecstatic, but now I had to go home to see my family.

There is no dialogue in the prologue, which is why there is a wall of text. In all honesty I HATE the prologue and chapters 1-7 (wrote this a long time ago) but I really like the rest, so being the lazy person i am I decided to just uploaded it faults and all instead of re-writing it.
