RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
Like I said, I ain't expecting people to writing stories, I'm expecting people to work from their level and improve in their own time. Hence why I'm going to implement a ranking system.

RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
An RP is nothing but a fluid story, written by several people.

I basically meant I'm not expecting people to write 5+ paragraphs with 8+ lines in each, lol.

So is anything actually happening? As we seemed to have at least a few ideas finalized, didn't we?

Well as I said I'm not officially doing anything, I may never officially do anything but we'll see. If not myself, then someone else will.

RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
intresting so your going to add a ranking system right well that could work but the thing is for me is that people post the APPs and never coming to the rp again.

This is really an issue. I had to close down my first RP, people were just spamming with 2-3 word posts. I couldn't even do anything without someone God-Modding and telling my character what to do. I agree that there should be a length minimum. I would say 5 lines though. There should also be tutorials or examples available as to what the various levels of RPing ability are, sort of like a rubric. Then RP's could be created and require a certain ranking level, based on the rubric. This will help to separate the good RP's from the "spam" RP's. |

RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
No, that's not what i call RPing, RPing is about putting much detail into it.
When someone goes like...Bob: I liek cookiez!... You immediatly know they do not know anything of it and that they don't put feeling into it! |

RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
I'm just tired of not getting back what I put in...
If I make a post that says something like: Meitsu grabbed the orb of light from the forbidden kingdom, but didn't notice the huge rock statues that instantly came to life as soon as he grabbed the orb of light. He did his best to dodge there swords made of rock, and there oddly strange power of turning humans into rocks on the touch. Meitsu being a god wouldn't be affected but Serg, being a human, would be turned to stone. The rock statues were about the punch Serg and make a direct hit. "Serg look out they'll turn you into stone!" Meitsu yelled, trying to get there to save him... And then the next person only writes: Serg dodges the attack. You see what I mean, why put in paragraph posts if your only gonna get our one liners... We need to get the point across here, we need to get the Role Playing Section it's own forum and make it more noticeable. |

RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
You got point, maybe the mods will make point to.
Sure, we always have those imbeciles who try to be a smartass, that's what i'm trying to say; The new rules should be something like this "Each Bio, Appearance and post first posts in that Roleplay have to be 3 or more sentences. |

RE: Roleplay Section Improvements Discussion
A bio should be a collective history of what your character has down, it should literally be a life's story!
Supreme Gamesmater Wrote:"Any RP'er worth there salt will try to make a bio of at least three paragraphs." However, I'm willing to settle for at least one 5 sentence paragraph. |

It's obviously you wrote that, we should force the moderators to put in the rules that each and everything included in a aplication should be 3 or more sentences.

(01-28-2009 04:29 PM)Hidden™ Wrote: It's obviously you wrote that, we should force the moderators to put in the rules that each and everything included in a aplication should be 3 or more sentences. I lol'd, big time. Basically, I rarely join RPs here because I know that most of them are going to end up (if they don't even start up) as spam-filled trash threads. Basically, an RP needs three things:
Without all three of those, an RP isn't an RP. However, most RPs I see focus on one single thing, and that is fighting. An RP can't function on that alone, there needs to be a consistent plot that guides the storyline and some degree of freedom for characters to maneouver around. So basically, a good RP needs a good RP creator, which does not equate a good RPer, and there are only a handful of those around, if that. To go on, most people who join RPs do so with half-assed character sheets and no real desire to RP with others, just wanting to get a few posts of their characters doing something heroic and epic. That's not how an RP functions - if you want to create a character and godmod him, go write a fanfic (it will be a bad fanfic, but at least it won't bother others who want to RP properly). One-liner posters and people who can't spell or structure their sentences properly are a mere nuisance compared to those who godmod or take control of other characters without appropriate permission. Also, another reason many RPs fail is because of the large degree of freedom given by the creator, which happens solely because said creator is too bored to create a proper system and just lets everyone do whatever they want. Again, after an RP has been properly designed, and I can't emphasize enough on that, it needs three things:
Notice how the plot is here, too? Good. By "plot", I don't mean "bunch of people trapped in alien planet, go kill kill kill aliens and survive!". Your RP doesn't have to be the next Lord of the Rings or World of Warcraft, but it can easily be decent without you having to spend too much time on it. An RP where members can contribute to and steer the plot is a good RP, an RP where everyone can control the plot by doing as he wishes is a bad RP. I wrote this because I've seen too many people believe that three lines of ripped-off backstory and some copy-pasted character sheet with a few "cool" additions can make an RP. When an RP thread degenerates into trash, it's usually the creator's own fault. Usually. Now, I've seen very few members here who are actually capable of RPing to a relatively good degree and maintain a proper adherence to some basic rules, so as not to ruin a well-designed RP. But everyone can have fun if they try - RPing shouldn't be an elitistic priviledge, rather, a fun option for everyone. And for those who can't tolerate the 'noobs', there are always private RPs for them. </endrant> |

Boy do you guys spam old threads, but I guess it still is an on-going discussion. It is true everyone has their own style of roleplaying but a two word post is unforgivable, even we have our limits here.

Since I feel in some kind of mood to get this ball rolling again, do any of you have ideas to put forward?
