Music Section Guidelines
Greetings guys,

A newly imported moderator also means new section rules.
Here are compiled all the things you’re allowed to post and those you shouldn’t.

Overall there aren’t many rules in this section and all you need to keep in mind is laid out in a short, quick point-by-point format.

Anything written in spoilers is not a must-read, but contains detailed information about the rules, why they are in place, etc.; basically for those of you who have a specific question or want to do a more in-depth research.

~*~

General Guidelines: What is allowed in the Music section?
  • what the forum description says
  • ”self-promotion”
  • tabs and partitions
  • playlists
  • mixes (Drum’n’Bass etc.)
  • AMV’s (author-made videos)
  • discussions about concerts, festivals (elaborated on in Rule 3, point 4: bootlegs)

Detailed information (Click to View)

Rule 1: No spamming
‘Please keep replies and posts topical to the forum on which they are posted or they will be removed. Do a search if you want to ask a question or start a new thread to make sure that it hasn't been posted before.
Relating to topicality, you should not be changing the topic of an existing thread when you reply. This just serves to confuse people who have been following a thread, and often leads to spam and extra threads.’

Spam includes posts like “This is spam. Reported.” and anything among those lines. Not only do they fail to contribute to a discussion; they also start annoying other members and grab more attention on the rule-infracting topic. Instead of adding more spam, use the “Report” button and a moderator will come around to handle the issue.

In addition, posts which only consist of quoting another member or anything in the style of “Member X is right” are not allowed, as they don’t contribute to a discussion in any way.

  • 1.1 Duplicate threads
Are you new to the forum? Do you want to post a thread? Before you post a new topic, please run a quick search to see if the subject is not already being discussed somewhere else. There is no point in having a “Children of Bodom” thread somewhere and then “Alexi Laiho is a god” 2 steps below. In that case, it is better to bump the other thread, assuming it’s not deadly old, but if you find 10 similar threads and post a new one, it’s either going to be locked or merged.

Definition of spam (Click to View)
  • 1.2: Note about stuck threads
The “What are you listening to” topic is now situated in the Games section through a redirect link. The point behind this is that it’s easy to raise your post count in no time by inserting a random song in every second reply. Now the topic is still related to the Music section, but with no post count.

Rule 2: Links
’Unsolicited promotion of other web sites, or products, is spam, and will be removed on sight without warning. Please keep our forums free of unsolicited advertisement or product promotion. Posting referral/recruitment/trick links is strictly prohibited.’

However, links to video uploading sites like http://www.youtube.com/ or online radios like http://www.pandora.com/ are of course allowed.
If other, similar sites come to your mind, please post them here and I will add them to the list.

Rule 3: No inappropriate content
This includes linking to any sites that may violate the rules. In relation to this section, this includes:
  • adult-oriented content
  • download links and piracy
  • trades
  • bootlegs.

Other than that, you are free to post anything music-related at your heart’s content.

Rule 4: No flaming / harassment
‘Harassment is defined as specifically targeting another player or group of players to harm or inconvenience them.’

‘Any speech or inference, direct or indirect, that constitutes a personal attack against another individual or group is prohibited. Do not insult other users for their ideas/opinions no matter how ridiculous they may be.’

Discussion is always welcome whereas crapping up threads with flame wars, personal insults and “Holier than thou” opinions is not. There is a difference between “you don’t know what you’re talking about” and “you are an idiot because you listen to ~insert something here~”. Flaming or harassing someone for having a different music taste is not allowed in any form.
This does of course not include debates, comparisons or discussions about why you think a band or genre is better than another, which can take place at any point.

  • 4.1 “Holier than thou” Opinions
The Music section is only a part of the Yugioh Card Maker Forum and thus bound to be frequented as well by younger or less informed users. Please understand that we are an entertainment section, not a whole site dedicated to music and highly professional musicians only. Don’t flame people who don’t know what semiquavers are or what the data rate in bits per second of European EBU SMPTE time code at a 25 fps frame rate is. Instead, try to explain it to the member in question or just ignore the issue altogether. I MIGHT open a topic for advanced musician discussions, depending on how the discussion scale proceeds.

  • 4.2 Criticism
...is good if it’s done with a constructive insight. If we see that you attack someone or something just for the sake of it or because you simply can’t hold your temper in check you will have broken the rules.

Any flaming or vicious swearing will either run through my censoring method and make you look ridiculous or get deleted altogether.

The staff team trusts that you will stick by these guidelines and continue to support the community and add to the discussion taking place. They work in addition to the general site rules situated here.

I tried to make this list as precise and comprehensible as possible, but if there is a point you feel unsure about or think I forgot something, you are encouraged to post your questions or comments here.

RE: Music Section Guidelines
I'm going to assume that you're talking about the "duplicate threads" point.
If so, well a topic is always considered dead after 5 months so of course it will be left where it is.

RE: Music Section Guidelines
You could but no.
We've had so many of them and none generated into a constructive discussion.
It was all about "Jonas Brotherz suck!!", "OMG yes they do", etc.
If you want to read it look through the older threads in this section.
