Yu-Gi-Oh: The False Cards (Accepting by PM) (Started!) [Basic]

Recommended Posts

Throughout the existence of Duel Monsters, there have been many rare, legendary, and powerful cards. It's a sign of status if you own one. Of course, one has to wonder exactly why these cards were made rare. Rumors say that they have been used in legendary supernatural battles, and the cards themselves hold mystical powers as well. In fact, some of the more dangerous cards have been said to deal with actual human souls...

It all started innocently enough; a duelist played a Blue-Eyes White Dragon in a televised tournament. The crowd went berserk; the only three Blue-Eyes in existence once belonged to Seto Kaiba, and they were on display at a museum he ordered to be built after his death. The duelist's card was confirmed to be real by the tournament organizers, and the 'true' Blue-Eyes were still accounted for. Industrial Illusions allowed the card to be used; as the duelist in question was popular and fairly marketable. With that, they said they would officially recognize any card that their scanners confirmed.

The next sightings were scattered, with rare and legendary cards becoming more common. There was the turbo duelist with three Winged Dragon of Ras. There was a celebrity who showed off her Neo Spacian cards. There was a young prodigy with an Earthbound Immortal Deck. There was a tournament where the finalists dueled with Orichalcos and Dark Synchro monsters. What was surprising was many of the rumors surrounding some of the more dangerous card proved false. They were completely safe.

Eventually these cards became somewhat commonplace... most of them are still rare, but no longer one-of-a-kind. Industrial Illusions was frustrated to no end, seeing as they were not making these cards and could not find out who was. They eventually started calling these cards "False Cards", since that was what they were, really. Of course, they themselves could not distinguish between the original "True Cards" and "False Cards", no matter what they did.

There are certain duelists, however, that can sense False Cards. These duelists, called "Seekers" view False Cards as a card with small traces of dark smoke coming from it. Normally, these traces are unnoticeable, even to Seekers, unless they examine the card closely. However, a deck full of False Cards, or a particularly rare and powerful False Card, could be detected easily, as they will spew the smoke. Seekers tend to feel uncomfortable around this black smoke, but some do get used to it...

And now... something in the shadows is brewing. People are disappearing, one after another. Duelists everywhere will have to deal with the coming conflict. What will you do?

Welcome to Yu-Gi-Oh: The False Cards, where the increase of rare cards signals the coming of something larger. Go ahead and post applications and whatnot, and we will begin when we have enough people.

[spoiler=Rules specific to this RP]

Try to be active, so we can keep things moving. I know everyone has other things to do, but at least attempt to post a few times a week. If you will be away for an extended period of time, PM me or add it alongside a post.

Godmoding is unacceptable, of course. This includes overpowered custom cards.

I will be guiding the story along a general path, though that doesn't mean everyone can't do other things. Duel, rob, ride, work, dispense justice, whatever you want. Your characters probably won't know much of what's going on in the grand scheme of things, just bits and pieces. If you want some overarching storyline for your character that melds into the main story... PM me. I'll try my best to work with you and connect it all together. I may not be able to work everything together to the same degree, though... it all depends how much I like the proposed storyline. Just go out there and have fun.

As of now, one character per person. There are exceptions, though, but those reasons are usually tied to the story. You can create temporary NPCs for your characters to interact with, so our world won't be empty.

[spoiler=Background info and Character Options]

The story is set in Revis City, where one of the branches of Industrial Illusions is situated. Like Domino City, dueling is the number one pasttime for many people. Duel Monsters has been played for fun, for money, to resolve conflicts, and everything in between. That's not to say one cannot get into an oldfashioned brawl or a firefight, but as the RP continues... you'll want some cards on your side.

Players can be Seekers, False Seekers, or normal Duelists. Normal Duelists cannot detect False Cards, but are affected the least by any influences they may have. Seekers can detect False Cards, and thus tend to use True Cards in duels. False Seekers are Seekers that welcome the power False Cards bring, and prefer to use those. Note that Seekers are not necessarily 'Good', and False Seekers are not necessarily 'Bad'. True Cards just tend to be 'safer' to use than False Cards... but False Cards are more common, meaning it is easier to get the more powerful cards.

A duelist can have up to 3 Signature Cards; you will also need to mark for each card whether it is a True or False card. The only restriction is that normal Seekers cannot use False Cards. These can be custom cards (just post the effects with them), but note that your signature cards will be upgraded in the story. How they upgrade is determined by whether your card is True or False. If you want to use a powerful anime card, you can (It'll be False 9999/10000 times) but I may change the effect. These cards aren't the world-bending forces like the originals (yet...).

[spoiler=Jake Rhinestone (BrokenHeart15)]

Age: 21

Appearance: Australia_Day_by_MythicalArtist1027.jpg

Bio: A duelist who once favoured the rock type when he lived in Australia. This changed when he moved to Revis and designed a new archtype in an Industrial Illusions contest that was happening there. He was amazed when he won and thus became the user of the Australasia Beast archtype, in honour of his homeland Australia and the neighbouring islands. Lately he was put under wraps after learning that someone was going around with his decktype. This caused him to find the culprit, who was using a false deck of cards. The cards left Jake with an odd feeling, but he battled and defeated the duelist. Trying to ignore the black smog coming from the fakes, which he burnt.

Duelist Type: Seeker

Signature Cards: Australasia Beast - The Rainbow Serpent (True)

[spoiler=Ryan Markoney (Bringerofcake)]

Age: 20

Appearance: A bit on the stockier side, he hits about the 5'10" mark. He wears somewhat regular clothing, a faded black sportcoat, brown pants, and somewhat scuffed shoes.

Bio: Ryan is a good duelist. No one disputes that. What they do dispute though is everything else. His cards and how true they are, where he came from. Only Seekers and False Seekers have the real capacity to trust him, simply because they know all of his cards to be True.

Duelist Type: Seeker

Signature Cards: God of the Five Souls, Horientas, King of the Pentagram, Pentagram Avenger - Teskaton (all True)

[spoiler=Solomon Creek (Deucalion)]

Age: 26

Appearance: Solomon_Goldshmith_by_Matisa.jpg

Bio: Solomon Creek was an avid fan of Duel Monsters, and spent most of his childhood collecting the cards. He was a proficient duelist, but nothing out of the ordinary, so eventually, he went down the normal career route, headed into university, and managed to get a degree in art. To his surprise, he was later offered a job by Industrial Illusions as a card designer, a chance at which he leapt. This was how he learnt of False Cards. Industrial Illusions ordered him to view the duel of duelist suspected of using False Cards, and Solomon realised he could see them, black smoke seeping from the decks. Upon learning of this, Industrial Illusions gave him a new role: to find out where the False Cards are coming from.

[spoiler=Ira Hart (Malice)]

Name: Ira Hart

Age: 17

Appearance: Ira has blond, shoulder length hair that has a bit of a 'choppy' look to it, that also has a hair tie around a lock near her face. She has blue eyes, and stands taller then the average female. More often then not, she can be found wearing a pair of faded jeans, bulky black boots, a white tee shirt, with a thigh length black jacket over it, as well as a red scarf, regardless of the temperature.

Bio: Ira is, and always has been, the voice of skepticism. When she was a child, she was incredibly cautious, though equally impressionable. It was her naive nature that landed her in an accident while she was a young girl. A friend had convinced her to leave her yard and play in the streets, saying that it would be fine. This was not the case however, as Ira was hit by a motorcycle of some sort.

She spent some time in intensive card, and though she recovered physically, she was no longer the carefree child that she had been. Her accident was simply the beginning of her negative thoughts and constant questioning of everything. - And also her fear of motorized vehicles.

As she aged, and became familiar with duel monsters, she once again began to wander from the places that she was used to. She would duel with other children in a play ground not far from her street, beginning to feel more comfortable around other people. Sadly, this did not last, as a cheating bully beat her in a duel, and stole all of her cards, leaving her with nothing.

Now, older and wiser, she is very careful, and can be a tad overbearing or protective, especially when it comes to her cards, or even young children. Though sometimes easily provoked or angered, she always has the best intentions in mind.

Duelist Type: Normal duelist, whom is skeptic of anyone to claim they are otherwise. However, she is more of a collector, then a duelist.

Signature Cards: Dark Magician of Chaos (true), Dark Magician (true), Dark Magician Girl (true). Needless to say, the foundation of her deck is spellcaster types.

A little before his father died he gave him his deck. He has never made a single to change to it yet. He dreams of a better life so he decided to use his father's deck to regain his family's former stature and maybe higher. He has a more calm and seemingly cold personality but can show a completly different nature for those he actually cares about.

In this case, Toon Cards can be considered *really really rare*. I would imagine before the arrival of False Cards, Industrial Illusions having some sort of event commemorating Pegasus, and releasing a few copies of his favorite cards. It's not like only a few were made for supernatural reasons (besides being more powerful and different during Duelist Kingdom and stuff). Still, False toons extremely outnumber True toons, and a non-seeker can't tell them apart, so...

...

...short answer, Toons can be True.

Hirikiri:

There is no 'evil' side yet. If you want to make your own crime syndicate or theft ring or something, go right ahead, as long as they are not making the False Cards. As for your character type, if your character is a seeker, it all comes down to this: Do you care about the 'purity' of your cards? Seekers care, False Seekers don't. And you can still be a normal duelist if you want. Finish your application and you will probably be accepted.

Everyone Else:

Accepted. I'm going to sleep now, so we'll probably start when I wake. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Name: Samuel Vern

Age: 14

Appearance: 11374585415302ex.jpg

Bio: Sam has been a duelist fan since he was very little, around 4 or 5. He grew up entering small contests, the prize ussualy being a rare card to add to his deck. When he got a pack of cards containing all the Light Orb set, he used Light Orb Level 1 so much that he gained the ability to see the cards duel spirit. However, his joy in dueling has decreased slightly since the arrival of False Cards, feeling that they ruin duels for people. Note: Sam dosen't know they are false cards, what that part of the bio means is that he dosen't like the sudden increase in rare (fake) cards because people who don't have them are easily beaten. Note 2: Sam has 1 fake card in his deck, a Blue Eyes White Dragon, but he rarely uses it.

Duelist Type: Normal Duelist.

Signature Cards:

Note: Sam has no particular deck type, instead his deck is made up of different sets (Spacers, Light Orbs) so has a great amount of different types of card.

Kuroda Naoki:

The toughest part about Dark Synchro monsters being True is their origins. Industrial Illusions didn't make the cards; and they are pretty much associated with the Earthbound Immortals... Of course, if you can come up with a reason Dark Synchro monsters (or at least, *your* Dark Synchro and Dark Tuner) can be an original, then it can be True.

Alordzynix:

Yes, your cards will get a general stat boost and/or effect boost in the story, as well as becoming more important in their own right.

Samuel Vern:

From your application, I'm assuming you're a Seeker. You'll be accepted as soon as you clarify what type of duelist you'll be playing as.

Everyone:

All other applications submitted since my last post have been accepted; check the first post in the thread to be sure. And with that, let us begin.

"Here's your paycheck for the week." A large, balding man handed Evan an envelope with Evan's name on it. Evan took the check and stuffed it in his front pocket on his jeans.

"Thanks." Evan replied softly. He turned back to his locker, and stuffed the overalls he was wearing just a few minutes earlier into the locker. As he closed and locked it, he turned back to his boss. "And about my vacation time..."

"You've been approved already. Get some rest." the large man said, interrupting Evan. Evan sighed in relief; his vacation would not be interrupted by someone calling out for a change. He needed this time to try to find a way to make more money, and he was not going to have it interrupted by this minimum wage job.

---

Evan emerged from the fast food restaurant at about noon. The rain from earlier cleared out since he started working, with the only reminders being a few water puddles here and there. Evan was glad he wore his blue T-shirt today, since the weather was pleasant now that the rain was gone. Taking out his deck from his pocket, he started to walk down the street, towards the large dueling arena a few blocks down the road. His deck emitted small amounts of smoke, though Evan was not bothered by it as much anymore. He did get a few stares from people walking by, who apparently could see the smoke as well.

The smoke did not make any sense. What made the cards like this? And why could only certain people see them? Evan had decided that didn't matter, but it still bugged him. At least it made it easier to upgrade his deck, with some people willing to trade cards that smoke, for cards that don't. He just had to pretend to not be able to tell the difference.

A tournament is being held at the arena today, although Evan is not participating. He lost in the preliminaries... defeated in one turn, even. Instead, he is going to buy, sell, and trade cards. He'll need every card he can get his hands on if he is going to survive as a duelist in the current age, and he was not going to give up on one of his best sources of income yet.

The puddles that littered the ground hardly bothered Ira, whom simply stepped around them, though she did not mind the thought of them simply drying up. She gave a soft yawn, as though she were bored, and began to make her way towards a cluster of people, wondering what they were babbling about.

As she got close enough to hear that it was simply several duelists arguing over whom would win the tournament, with a few of the head strong newbies claiming that they would be the winner. She snorted slightly, shaking her head as she slipped her hands into the pocket of her jacket, "If some of these people had as much talent as they did ego, they would do fine," she commented, apparently to herself, since she was alone, as she had been since she had arrived at the dueling arena.

Eventually, she moved on from the argumentative group, eyes scanning the faces of cards as she passed, noting cards she was familiar with, and several that she had neither seen nor heard of in her life time. Although nothing interested her. She was having difficulties discovering near spellcaster type monsters to collect, or having problems finding those rare cards that she needed to complete it.

Absently, she pulled out her deck, fanning out the first three cards and smiling fondly down at them. - The Magician of Chaos, the Dark Magician, and the Dark Magician. Her favorite cards in the entire game. For a split second she contemplated dueling to show off her precious magicians, but eventually decided against it as she carefully pushed them back into her black strapped shoulder pack, which had the letters 'I' and 'H' stitched into it in a red that matched her scarf.
