Deck Masters!

Recommended Posts

I decided to create these because I always wanted to do Deck Master duels. These are all the cards I have for now, but I want to make the "Boss Monsters" for pretty much every important duelist in each series. Give me any suggestions for monsters, edits, or rule changes I could make. You can even post your own, but I prefer for DMs not to be Archetype specific. Type and Attribute-specific are okay, however.

Here are Deck Master Rules:
● At the start of the Match, both players select a Deck Master Card (The card is not placed in your Deck beforehand).
● A Deck Master counts as a single copy of the card it shares its name with in your deck. (IE, you may only use 2 Blue Eyes White Dragon in your deck if you have Blue Eyes White Dragon as your DM).
● Unless otherwise stated, a DM has its original card effect while it's on the field. A change in their effect will be denoted by "While this card is Summoned, its effect is instead:"
● You may Summon a Deck Master during your Main Phase like any other monster. No Tributes are required. However, you cannot attack the turn you play your Deck Master if said Deck Master is Level 5 or higher.
● When a Deck Master is destroyed or removed from play, the player who Summoned it loses the duel. If it would be returned to the hand or deck, it is instead placed in the Deck Master Zone.
● If a DM is used for a Synchro, Ritual, Tribute, XYZ or Fusion Summon, the Summoned card is treated as your new Deck Master. It gains no additional effects, but if it is removed from the field you still lose the Duel. The original Deck Master then loses its effect(s) and goes to the proper place according to the conditions (Deck, Graveyard, etc).
● A Deck Master can only be used in a Fusion, Synchro, or XYZ Summon that specifically lists it as a Material Monster somewhere in its text.
● Deck Master effects can be negated by card effects, but a Deck Master cannot be destroyed while in the Deck Master Zone.
● The Summon of a Deck Master can be negated, and it cannot be Summoned again that turn, but the Deck Master cannot be destroyed while being Summoned.
--Possible rule: A Deck Master cannot be Summoned until a number of turns have passed equal to half its Level rounded up, or equal to its Rank.

So according to your style, Deck Master versions of monsters do not have their original monster effects when they are Summoned? Because when you write

Stardust Dragon
WIND/Dragon/DM/8/2500/2000
Once per duel you may discard 1 card to negate an opponent's card effect. When this card is Summoned, it gains the following effect: You may return this card to the Deck Master Zone to negate the destruction of a card on the field. This card then cannot be Summoned again.

You imply that, if you SS a Stardust from the DM Zone, it only has this effect, and not the self-tribute effect. So it's a different monster than the original.

I think that Deck Masters should have special abilities for when they are treated as DMs (whether they are in the Deck Master Zone or Summoned, depends on the wording of the effect), but when they do get on the field, they should get their original effects as well. Also, what about being Tributed for Ritual or Tribute Summons? Or for that matter what about self-tribute effects (unless you go by what I said above about them not retaining original effects).

I also <3 DMs, because they add an extra layer of strategy, but they need a lot of polishing...

I had to get rid of their effects, because otherwise some DMs would be extremely overpowered, and some of them would cause you to instantly lose. Stardust Dragon tributing itself means you lose the Duel by DM rules. This helps to balance out the card and keep them from either being used for easy OTKs or from being considered worthless.

I added in that they can be used for Tribute and Ritual Summons. For some reason I didn't think about that.

If you have any other suggestions, feel free to give them :3

EDIT: I guess SOME monsters could be allowed their original effects, but not all of them. Shooting Star Dragon, for instance, couldn't be allowed to have its regular effect.

They are much better now, I think.

========

Red-Eyes Black Dragon
DARK / Dragon / Deck Master
Level 7
2400/2000
When a Dragon-Type monster on the field is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, deal 800 damage to your opponent. While this card is Summoned, its effect is: once per turn, you can pay 2000 Life Points to Special Summon 1 Level 6 or lower DARK Dragon- or Fiend-Type monster from your Deck.

========

Elemental Hero Neos
LIGHT / Warrior / Deck Master
Level 7
2500/2000
By discarding two cards from your hand, you can Special Summon 1 "Neo-Spacian" monster from your Deck. While this card is Summoned, its effect is: if this card is used as a Fusion Material Monster for a "Neos" Fusion Monster, the Fusion Summoned monster cannot be returned to your hand or Deck.

========

Red-Eyes is basically general dragon support, burns decently and can start swarming (possibly for some fusion) when he is brought out. Neos can spam Neo-Spacians and also basically stops whatever he fuses into (and turns into the new Deck Master) from returning to the hand or deck, mainly blocking its self-returning effect, but also stopping the occasional Compulsory etc.

Eeh, it was Level 6 or lower originally, dunno how it slipped. Fixed now, should be balanced.

EDIT: For lulz:

=======

Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
DARK / Fiend / Deck Master
Level 7
2700/2500
Once per turn, if you control no monsters and you take damage, you can activate 1 of the following effects, based on the type of damage:
● Battle Damage: Special Summon 1 "Emissary of Darkness Token" (Fairy-Type/LIGHT/Level 1/ATK ?/DEF ?). Its ATK and DEF are each equal to the amount of battle damage you took.
● Effect Damage: Discard 1 card, then draw 1 card.

=======

Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
LIGHT / Spellcaster / Deck Master
Level 3
1000/1000
Every time you Summon a "Lightsworn" monster, send the top card of your Deck to the Graveyard. Once per duel, you can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower "Lightsworn" monster from your Graveyard, and increase its ATK by 600.

=======

Gorz has no effect when it is summoned (since its original effect won't trigger), but he's fairly useful for building up both field and hand advantage, depending on the circumstances. And he's still beatsticky and useful for Synchro / pushing for win. Lumina basically should not be summoned unless you're pushing for win, and speeds up Lightsworn milling a bit while having a one-time free summon that can definitely make a difference.

personally i think neos as a deck master by the rules you made would be broken since a simple contact fusion would place neos back in the dm zone that means that neos still remains the deck master and the new monster is not. and if you use neos' effect to summon grand mole that means you just gained a 2500 atk monster that can bounce opponent's monsters once per turn with no draw backs. also with your deck master rules this would mean if you have enough cards in your hand next turn, you can do it again. o.o... just saying. i like the idea though. if it were me i would make it so you cant summon neos on the same turn you use the effect or vise versa. this would balance him out so you dont fusion spam a neos monster each turn and still be easy to contact fuse.
Link to comment
I did not add a specific clause, because the rules already state that if the Deck Master is used to fuse into another monster, that monster becomes your new Deck Master (and thus obviously the old monster is not considered a Deck Master, otherwise you would lose when it goes to the Graveyard). It's the same in this case, Contact Fusion shouldn't have any different mechanics than regular Fusion.

Comments on Gorz and Lumina?

I made 2 deck masters once, they went something like this:

Stardust Dragon Deck Master
WIND
Level 8
Deck Master / Dragon / Synchro / Effect
If this card is used for the Ritual, Fusion, Tribute or Synchro Summoning of a monster, That monster is treated as your new Deck Master. Once per turn, if your opponent activates a Spell Or Trap card that destroy a monster(s) on the field, you can Summon this card to the field to negate the activation of the card, and Destroy it. This card returns to your Deck Master Zone after the End Phase of the turn you activate this card's effect.
2500/2000

Blue-Eyes White Dragon Deck Master
LIGHT
Level 8
Deck Master / Dragon / Effect
If this card is used for the Ritual, Fusion, Tribute or Synchro Summoning of a monster, That monster is treated as your new Deck Master. Once per turn, you can inflict damage to the opponent equal to half this cards ATK. You cannont Attack with this monster the turn you use this effect.
3000/2500

We can make our own, yes?

If so...

Scrap Goblin
EARTH
Beast-Warrior/DM/Tuner
3/0/500
Once per Duel, a "Scrap" monster you control is not destroyed by battle this turn. Destroy it at the end of the Battle Phase. If you Summon this card, destroy a "Scrap" monster you control. If this card is destroyed by a "Scrap" monster, that monster is now treated as your Deck Master.

Scrap Golem
EARTH/Rock/DM/5/2300/1200
If this card is not Summoned, once per turn, you can Special Summon a Level 6 or lower "Scrap" monster from your Graveyard to either side of the field, except "Scrap Golem". It is destroyed during the End Phase.

These look cool, actually.
Will see what wikia's random button throws up :)

EDIT:

Sangan
Dark / Level 3 /
Fiend / Deckmaster
Twice per turn, you can send 1 card from your side of the field to the Graveyard to add 1 monster with 1500 ATK or less to your hand. When this card is Summoned, it gains the following effects:
- You can return this card from your side of the field to the Deckmaster zone to Special Summon 1 monster from your Graveyard. It cannot attack this turn, and this card cannot be Summoned again.

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
Earth / Level 5 /
Warrior / Deckmaster
You can activate each of the following effects once:
- While you control no monsters, Special Summon 1 "Six Samurai" monster from your hand. It cannot be used for a Synchro Summon.
- Discard one card from your hand. Select 1 "Six Samurai" monster you control. Destroy that monster, and Special Summon a "Six Samurai" monster from the Graveyard.
- Tribute 1 "Six Samurai" monster you control. Draw 1 card.

@Truth: I don't want Deck Masters to be Archetype-specific, because then they can't be used in any other deck. Neos is the only exception, because for one I couldn't think of another effect, and for two... Neo-Spacians need support a lot more than others. Type or Attribute-specific is fine, though. I'll edit it so that it's a bit more generic and add it to the list =P

@Deity: Pretty much you can just write down their effects and use a copy of the card next to your Field Spell Zone, and that counts as your Deck Master. It's pretty easy to play Deck Masters in real life. You should also probably write down the rules, though you can edit them to your liking. I'm not going to beat you up if you change them.
