Adults suddenly begin using words that are not words, and the source soaks up attention like crazy. Welcome to the 'Aww' factor - things that make others go 'aww,' or pronounce the subject as 'moe -- ' that is the end of this set, from the intellectual standpoint. It originated however, in the final episode of Negima?! when Setsuna is holding Sukka!Konoka (thus the 'Nippa!!' card), in Ayaka's explosive nosebleeds whenever she sees Negi in crossdress, and a bunch of other times someone has gone *ba-bump* on sight. This is where the 'monsters' are too cute to handle, and too deadly to ignore. Don't go in alone, and whatever you do watch yourself.

Glad to see you agree (with my basic premise). I welcome further comments from yourself and other posters. I am also curious as to which of the alternate cards people like better (ie: the two higher-level versons of Nodoka's cards have different pictures, as does the top-level for Negi).

What happened was that I made a bunch of cards, and then responded to the 'First attempt at Star Wars cards' thread with two threads of my own. This meant there was a significant break in my workflow for this set. I'd stopped after making the first three Powerpuff cards, and their Fusion card. When I came back I realized I wanted to redo them as two-stage monsters, so I made cards for them as PPGZ and as Teens, so I want to know in particular which schema people like better.

'Smiles for Swordsmen' is an interesting Spell card because I'd been cooking that one up since the Doma Arc aired, as a counter to the 'Seal of Orichalchos.' It sets of two lines or Tiers into which you can summon monsters, so you can summon up to 10 at once instead of just 5, however the monsters in the forward Attack Tier can only be in Attack Position. Likewise, the monsters in the rearguard Defense Tier can only be in Defense Position. I don't remember any boost resulting from the ATK/DEF Tiers, but the monsters' effects would provide one anyway: I imagined Kaoru backing up 'Kenshin, Sword of Heart', and Orihime backing up 'Ichigo, Sword of Soul,' for example. That function, though, does not activate unless a card with 'Orichalchos' in the name is on the field. What I didn't realize back then was that the Fast Summon system that's this card's primary feature is an effective countermeasure for cards like 'Sin World,' which was used in the crossover movie.

I had some issues with the appropriateness of some of the pictures. I made some choices, cropped judiciously, and figured that if Konami could get by with some of its official monsters in skimpy dress I could get by with some as well, although I tried to be more moderate about it. That's why you find the Teen version of Bubbles sitting on her card's border, for example. There were some picture choices I also made because something did not look right. For example, when it came time for a Powerpuff Fusion monster, there were some of the girls that looked cool, but their hands were about the size of their heads. I know originally they weren't drawn with hands (or feet, noses, or necks) but I'd like to think the 'perfect little girls' grew into 'perfect young women,' or something like that. So I made some more choices.

What you see is the result, but as I welcome feedback it's a 'result in progress.' As long as you're willing to provide me with your thoughts it will remain 'in progress.'

Adapting the Ala Alba members from this set and the Dungeon Crawlers Set has allowed me to see and fix a few grammatical problems I have on a card or two. I have not posted the corrected versions as of yet.

1) I was slightly bemused to see the fusion card of Yukiko and Rise (chie was cut out XD)
2) Shadowcat was a welcome sight! Although I'm curious as to why she was WATER-attribute. I'm guessing since she can short-circuit machines?
3) I believe anime-lovers and especially chibi-lovers would love this set! I'm a moderate anime fan, so I recognize only about half the characters
4) I'm somewhat ashamed to say this but I didn't read any of the effects XP I merely scrolled to see what characters there were! ^^

Yes, I cut Chie out. I see her as more a Sporty-type than a Cute-type, with a different sort of strength -- the more literal kind.

I gave Kitty the WATER-attribute because the way she phases reminds me of flowing through or around something. I could give her WIND, but I favour WATER more. There are also more WIND-types from [i]Negima[/i] than there are WATER-types -- and no high-power ones other than Sextum Averruncus.I think Kitty's ability to short machinery has more to do with disrupting their connections as she phases through them.

I'm glad you enjoyed looking at the cards. Recognizing even half of the characters is a feat worthy of recognition. If you wouldn't mind reading the effects in your spare time to you can comment on them as well, I would appreciate it. Please do feel free to take your time: it's not as if I'm on a deadline.

I am happy to report that my new Ala Alba Set is complete. Apparently signatures have a far larger limit, so I am able to keep links to all my sets so far. We'll see how long that keeps up. I'll take a bit of a break, and then get into revising the New Avengers Set.

On an aesthetic level the function for this set is 'aww, so cute!' On a functional level, it's to shut the opponent down. That's exactly what Aww Factor did to Azure Wing and Celestial Being when they made the mistake of attacking -- Chibi-chan shut down Noctis Eques Negi, and from there there was little left for Azure Wing to do. Even Yue proved insufficient against Bubbles, Buttercup, and Cecily. 'Read Me a Book?' had Arios occupied and unable to attack, while Sakibure even lacks the capacity to wage much in the way of an attack. A set of traps kept it functional just one extra turn, but the draw did not provide Celestial Being a win. Ala Alba, meanwhile, held back while it gathered its strength, and kept bouncing effects and attacks off each other to survive. Yue had already made use of Azure Wing's 'Smiles for Swordsmen,' and was happy when it came to Ala Alba's own such card, boosting Evangeline and Negi into counterattack strength. Aww Factor held off the attack thanks to Eva and Nodoka for a while, but Ala Alba did what it does best and gathered its strength before one final overwhelming attack wave. It certainly did not hurt them that Negi can absorbs power in battle -- it was funny, though, when AF's 'Full Moon' helped AA's Eva, and again when both Decks had 'Queen of Ice' in play.

You'd think they're just cute, but Aww Factor clocks in as my second most powerful deck. Moral of the story: never underestimate the Cute.

Thank you. Because of the many different cards in this set, there are so many ways in which you can build a Deck. Since the idea is to shut the opponent down via effects, it doesn't matter so much how powerful any of the monsters are -- still, some of them are powerful enough to be scary.

 

Hermoine is my favourite character from Harry Potter because she proves you don't need special blood to become powerful, just effort.

 

I am currently working on the pictures for my upcoming Fables & Fairy Tales Set, which contains damsels who do not wait for princes or adventurers to rescue them. This set will take the effects up to 11. Or at least that's my hope. It's difficult to balance things and keep them from getting too explicit, as I have said.
