[Eureka Fusion]

I've been really engrossed in the Robert Langdon stories. I'm in the middle of The Lost Symbol at the moment and I plan on picking up Deception Point and Digital Fortress at some point.

What do you think of him and/or his books?

I found deception point to be really good but I was a bit disappointed in Digital Fortress.
I am obsessed with the Robert Langdon series and The Lost Symbol has brought me into the world of Noetics which is one of the most awesome scientific theories ever!

I just finished Symbol last night, I think it's my favorite of the 3 out so far.
Reading about the whole concept of religion and science being interrelated was actually very interesting (not to mention thought-provoking). If anything, I greatly appreciated what I perceived as the main point behind most of the explanations and the book as a whole: that human potential's capable of god-like tasks.

I don't understand the buzz around Dan Brown. He wrote one good book, Angels and Demons, which nobody read, and followed it up with stuff that was decent (Deception Point), stupidly popular for no reason (The Da Vinci Code), boring (Digital Fortress), and just plain stupid (The Lost Symbol). If he didn't make the specious claim his books were based entirely on factual material (or that "symbologist" is an actual thing Harvard will pay you to be), he would probably have zero popularity whatsoever. The Freemasons would be upset, but they're too busy being relieved that this time they're not the bad guys.

Basically, Dan Brown typed "major discredited occult theories" into Google and went down the list, writing books about all the entries (well, no; Deception Point and Digital Fortress aren't about occult crap. I haven't heard any complaints about Deception Point, and I couldn't be bothered to finish Digital Fortress, but it only displayed a basic lack of understanding as to how computers work). Expect the next book to reveal the shocking truth about Satanic cults.

But all this wouldn't be so bad, except apparently people believe that when he says "this is all true" he means "this is all true", and at least one person (see above, in thread) has been permanently divorced from his critical thinking ability due to Dan Brown.

tl;dr I don't mind Dan Brown that much, and I enjoyed all of his books except Digital Fortress, he's just an idiot and only someone of extreme stupidity could possibly have written The Lost Symbol.

I have read Angels and Demons and I have read Code. I really enjoyed both to be perfectly honest. Using popular conspiracy theories is a genius idea and the plot for Angels & Demons was genius. He has clearly done plenty of research into what he needs to and has put together intelligent and interesting books. I don't believe the "It's all true" stuff for even a moment but Brown is welcome to his own beliefs and I won't discredit his brilliant stories because he's misguided.
