My first finished set: "Living Trap"

Supertramp

Recommended Posts

Well, it should work this time.
So here is my first comlete set: "Living Trap". It's mainly about monsters that can be treated as Trap Cards. Sounds similar to Trap Monsters at first, I know, but they should work pretty differently.
"Living Trap" cards are just normal monsters by default, but they can also be treated as Trap Cards.

And if a "Living Trap" card is treated as a Trap Card:
1. It has a different effect than it has when it is treated as a monster.
2. It decides in its card effect, what kind of Trap Card it is (Normal/Counter/Continuous).
3. It works exactly like a common Trap Card.

That means, if you have a "Living Trap" card in your hand that is treated as a Trap Card, you cannot Normal Summon it, but Set (--> face-down) it in your Spell & Trap Card Zone.
You can also activate a "Living Trap" Trap Card like common a Trap Card in your Spell & Trap Card Zone (--> usually not in the same turn it is Set). And after the activation it is sent to the Graveyard by default (unless it is a Continuous Trap Card). So, you know, just like a Trap Card.

Only difference: "Living Trap" cards can be Special Summed by effects even if they are treated as Trap Cards (like the Crystal Beasts can be Special Summoned by Ruby Carbuncle even though they are currently Continuous Spell Cards). Then they are treated as monsters of course.

A lot to read, but I hope someone will make time for it.

That is a pretty nice idea - but it's damn confusing. Their wording needs a lot of fixes, both to make them fit the modern standards and to make them more understandable. There are not only "When" effects, lol - you use them too much in inappropriate places. Also, Normal Trap Cards don't usually stay in the S/T zone after resolution...

Lonely Soul seems somewhat pointless to me. If you Normal Summon it, it gets set into the S/T zone and - wait, I get it. You want them to be Set FACE-DOWN as Trap Cards? I thought they were placed face-up in the Spell/Trap Zone. I'm not really sure how this works then, but it needs a lot of wording correction then, and I'm not even sure it's possible under normal game mechanics. Why don't you just go for normal Trap Monsters? lol

Other than that, I congratulate you for having such an original idea, which is somewhat rare when we look at custom created cards.

Actually the "Living Trap" cards that are Normal Traps also don't stay in the S/T zone after resolution, they are sent to the Graveyard, just like common Normal Traps. Only those that are treated as Continuous Traps stay on the field.
And yes, they are Set face-down in the S/T zone. Then you can activate them like common Trap Cards in the next turn.
I didn't want to use Trap Monsters because they are more or less just monsters that are Summoned in a special way. If I tried to make these cards as Trap Monsters, the wording would have probably been even more confusing.
I understand that these cards are confusing, I should have probably explained them more in the first place. I'll add a more detailed explanation in the first post soon. And I know that the wording doesn't make it much easier. ^^'

It is indeed a great idea. I would get confused as hell using such a deck, but if you're able to, it could allow for an incredible state of play. What I do love however, is the time you've put into finding artwork. I'm currently working on a steampunk deck which will be up soon, and my god, finding good and consistent artwork in the same light painting style takes a hell of a lot of time, and I love how consistent your artwork of a similar style is, that is really fantastic. It takes a hell of a lot of time, but the end result looks brilliant!

Wohoo two new responses! :D

@ CookerFillyJP Haha, I knew someone would say this. ^-^' I already wanted to change it, but the Card Maker here always creates a whole new card, if I change the name. And then I also would have to delete the old-named cards and so on and that was just too much right now. But I'm glad you like it.

@ CaMaker Thank you very much. I didn't think people here would like the artwork because it's not as conspicuous as the most others here. But I actually wanted it to be more subtle.
And yes,it took "a hell lot of time" to find those pictures (you like the word "hell", don't you ;)). And actually I also made some of them partially by myself (e.g. Swarm of Scarabs and Revenge of the Trap Cards) because I couldn't find good pictures (:
