Toffee.
are they still no level?
Xyz monsters have no levels, and cards that deal with levels(Gravity Bind, Super Transform, etc), have no effect/cannot be used on them.
also, when they are attacked, can they still detach monsters?
Only if they have an effect that lets them do so, I.E., Utopia.
if not, if it is destroyed, are those detached monsters also be destroyed?
Xyz Materials are basically counters. If the monster is removed from the field, the materials just go straight to the Graveyard. Cards like Quillbolt Hedgehog, Chain Dog, etc, say they are Banished when they are removed from the field after being Summoned in their own way~ Becoming an Xyz Material simply moves them to an unspecified area, and go to the Graveyard regardless. Cards like Giant Rat, if used as Xyz Material, just go to the Graveyard when detached/the Xyz monster is destroyed, it's effect doesn't happen. Cards like Dandylion, which specifically say:
When this card is sent to the Graveyard
Will, in fact, trigger when being sent to the Graveyard, because they just need to be the sent to the Graveyard regardless. Expelsword
Skill Drain negates them the same as any other monster that is face-up. Are you hurt in the head? Now you can lock it.

Expelsword
You must drill common sense into the people at any cost. Logic is most critical. Perhaps we should make this topic into a discussion of Skill Drain?
ihop
Having a Rank rather than a level is not part of the effect, it is a condition of the card in the same way that Skill Drain does not, say, stop Tour Guide having 1000 ATK and being a DARK Level 3 Fiend. Ranma 1/2
Skill Drain affects their effects. If the Xyz monsters have Xyz Materials on them, too bad. They can't use them. It doesn't affect the ranks, their ATK/DEF (unless their effects changed them otherwise), their Attributes, their Types, their names, their pictures, their sexiness, thei-- Oh, sorry, going off too much on the details. You get the picture, though.
Ok, let me rephrase what I said: "You can detach them, but you won't get to use the effects." Is that better?
