H.O.T.D. (Highschool of the Dead) DEAD Truth [Started/Not Accepting](PG-16)

The monsters slammed into the door, there sorrowful moaning growing louder and louder the more that gathered. They were everywhere now, all of the gathered groups former teachers and  classmates. Now they were those carnivorous decaying monsters. For now,  Cody and the other five were safe, but how long would that last? How long would the barrier hold them off? Likely not for very long. Those things were far stronger than any normal person. They could probably take the  entire door off it's hinges should they so choose.

For now though, Cody allowed himself to sit and catch his breathe. He set the drill he'd used to board the door up a short distance away from him, making sure to keep it within reach though. He might need it again soon. For the time being, the group stayed quiet. After a few minutes, there was a scream from somewhere in the school. The zomb- 'They' must have heard the noise too,  because shortly after the scream subsided, 'they' began  to shamble off towards it.

A long awaited sigh of relief escaped Cody's lungs as the moaning grew further away. Of course there was more of the infected not far from them, but none of them seemed interested in the Shop room. They probably only had an hour at most till 'they' began to get interested in the group again. Cody stood and stretched before saying "So, I don't suppose any of you have any clue what's going on do you?"

Even though his voice sounded calm and unafraid, it was obvious he was neither of those. His knee's were shaking, his palms were sweating, and his skin was pale from shock. He was anything but afraid. "I mean, obviously corpses are walking around and... turning others into corpses... but any idea's on what might have caused it?" Knowing the cause likely wouldn't help a thing, and in any case, he knew none of the  gathered knew what the real cause would be anyways. Somehow he felt somebody needed to ask though.

His gaze shifted towards the window, and the infected that stood a short ways off. It's eyes were dead and it was staring blankly off down the hall. Cody knew him before he became that thing too. He used to be attractive. The type of guy who slept with a different girl every night. Not anymore though. His once handsome structure was now warped and twisted with his dead stare.

Dead stare....

It seemed an innocent enough phrase, but here it might have meant more. The monsters had left the shop class the minute they heard the scream. While Cody was running, he noticed  that the louder students were attacked first. More than that, there were a few others walking into  walls repeatedly. Are they.... blind? It made sense. The rest of the body was shutting down, eventually the eyes would too. They probably didn't feel anything like pain either. However, hearing worked  mostly off of vibrations in the air being amplified by the ear  canal and drum. There were very few actual nerves involved in it to die.

If 'they' used something akin to a sonar to see their victims, then the group might  have a chance.

------

The scream had come from a girl wearing large glasses. She was the slacker type in her class, and had somehow managed to sleep through the panic. However, once she awoke to see what hell she found herself in, well, of course  she screamed. She tried to run, but the sound of her shoes only made things worse. It wasn't long before an infected grabbed her, turning her into a feast for the horde...

The workshop. A humble place; filled with tools that could be useful against the vile, malicious atrocities out there in a pinch. And out of the current six survivors, Alexandria A'bahki was the first to arrive. Now, Alexandria, or Alex as she would rather be called instead, was leaning against the wall having a cigarette, and pondering who else could've survived out there. Her immediate thoughts turned to her family. Mom... Dad... Alex's many siblings... Alex's father? Dying? Alex couldn't even dream of that in her worst nightmares. Her father was a marine, who had brought a whole mess of weapons back from the Vietnam War. And what's more, he would always have a weapon on him at all times, concealed or otherwise, so he'd always be prepared for these kind of things. Still, Alex supposed anything could happen.

Alex remained quiet for the duration that she was 'stuck' here; normally one would think it was best to go outside to smoke, but there was no way Alex would go out there and risk being eaten by these things. It wasn't until the last guy in Cody had entered that the silence was finally broken.

"That ain't important right now," Alex said, after dropping the cigarette butt and extinguishing it by foot, "What's more important is that we get our asses outta here and find our way home again. Just hope these ass-holes don't try to eat us on the way..."

She was about to say the word out, but was intervened by the scream of the "four-eyed" slacker girl. Alex could only imagine the worst for the poor soul; she had tried to peer out the window nearby her, but there wasn't enough of a gap for her to see much of anything.

"Awe, hell no..." muttered a concerned Alex.

Along with everyone else, Jensen was just there waiting in the wood shop room. He'd never really been in this room before, just passed it in the halls. He just sat there, against the wall several feet away from the blonde that was smoking. A little sweat was falling down his forehead as he sat there, without talking. There wasn't much for him to say in the first place. He didn't think talking about why this happened or how was really relevant at the moment. He looked up to the guy as he began to speak and then to the woman as she spoke. When he heard the scream of the girl, he felt like the world just started spinning. He couldn't think-- he was panicking internally. It's not every day that folks start killing each other in mobs. He stopped himself and closed his eyes, inhaling a deep breathe, then standing up.

"She's right, we gotta find a way out of this d*mn room." he said softly, his hands clenched into fists. He began walking around the room, looking for something he could use to keep those 'things' off of him. Most favorably a baseball bat or strong wooden pole of some sort. He was pretty horrified, suprised even that he was up and moving. But he had to get out of there-- they had to get out of there. He couldn't hear much except the sound of the other people speaking and his feet moving around the room. Under one of the desks, he found a long piece of leftover wood. It was about 3 ft long and about as thick as a baseball bat. He tried to bend it on his knee and it was just mailliable enough to be sturdy. He grabbed some blue painting tape and wrapped it around one end-- enough for him to grip it with up to both of his hands.

"So what now?" he asked the students in the room, holding his makeshift weapon in his left hand at his side. He wasn't exactly a strategy type so he didn't want to be trying to make plans until he had to.

Alyssa had taken to the corner of the room in between the smoking blonde and the brown haired boy, Jensen. Alyssa thought she might’ve known one of the kids from her classes, but couldn’t tell she didn’t bother paying attention to the other kids in her class. She thought of her parents back home, and wondered what might’ve happened to them. If the infection had reached her parents’ house right by now they would either be dead, or have locked themselves in their basement, were her father kept his hunting rifle. The thought of her parents dead almost brought a tear to Alyssa’s cheek, almost Alyssa kept her self under control silently mourning her parents but not wanting to show weakness.

The blonde girl began talking about how they needed to escape, and the brown haired boy seemed to agree with her, but Alyssa tuned them out. Her first and foremost concern was with getting a weapon. Alyssa opted for a small whittling knife on one of the tables, and returned to her previous position between the blonde and the brown haired boy.  Man did she wish she had a beer right now, this day had been going so well to, but of course for Alyssa good things never last, and she had come to expect it.

The scream of a girl shook Alyssa from her internal thoughts, and it seemed that the horde had found new prey, Alyssa knew this girl because she always got the teacher upset for slacking off. When Alyssa saw the infected attack the girl it toke all she had not begin crying and throw up, but she bit down heard on her tongue, drawing blood, as the bile rose in her throat. The only thing that came of the girl getting attacked was that it distracted the infected from the wood shop room, and they ceased their merciless pounding for a while.  In an attempt to rain in her raging feelings Alyssa turned away from the group, rolled down one of her gloves and made three small incisions on her palm with the whittling knife. She dabbed the blood with a small cloth she always carried in her bag for this purpose, and then rolled her glove back up.

Her feelings under control Alyssa, began running on auto-pilot, barely audible Alyssa asked the first question in figuring out a unfamiliar situation, “What do we know about these… things? Has anyone noticed any weaknesses, flaws, anything about them?”

It wouldn't be a surprise to be worried about your loved ones. The first number Alicia speed-dialled was her mother's. She needed to confirm whether or not this thing had spread, whether or not she was okay. Her mother wasn't as strong as she was, she was the most fragile of the family, Alicia felt duty bound to want to help her and protect her, to keep her safe. But there was no answer. Contemplating the possibilities, maybe she had heard something on the news, and was rushed away into safe hiding, so that she would've been protected? Then again, the obvious thought of her having been devoured was in her mind.

Alicia pushed this thought away and immediately speed-dialled her father. She knew he wasn’t always available, but if this was going on she knew he would not only know about it, but would’ve begun making precautions and everything. But, there was no answer, again. Alicia contemplated, again, the possibilities. Maybe the High School wasn’t the first place hit; maybe this thing has gone global, knocked out any chance of external communication. Maybe he was busy, and was trying his best to tackle the issue at hand.

All she knew now was that they were on their own, for now. Slipping her phone back into her uniform’s pockets she stood up and began to hear the group of five conversing. Alex’s quick regard of priorities accurate, but there was not many decisions going on. All that was really decided was leaving the room. Jensen’s question, “What now?” brought her into motion, which prompted her lips to part from her fixed mouth.

“What we do know, as you’ve taken initiative, is arm ourselves. We know they are hostile, and therefore we have no alternative…” Alicia’s stern voice resonated as she marched straight into the storage room, where all the additional wood works and tools and such would be for teacher’s supervision. With her pause, rustling would be heard in the room, and afterwards she came out again, dropping a few things.

She returned to the group with a tool belt hugging her hips, with it a wrench, hammer, chisled, and even a battery powered nail gun; she placed this on the table and continued to say "...but to arm ourselves, get out of this room, and get to high ground; scouting what's going on might give us insight as to where and what we can do."

That said, Alicia promptly looked over to the fire exit and said "We cannot stay in this room, this building for much longer. We need to reach supplies, we need food, water, shelter, and protection. Once we have our essentials, and we can survive, we can figure out what's going on."

Alicia's glare gazed over to Alyssa, and then Cody, before saying "I've parked my LandCruiser outside at the parking lot for the School. If we can reach that, we might have a better chance. But I'm wagering a lot on the fact that the way to my car will be littered with 'them'; however, there could be better ways to get out of this building. So long as we minimise casualties, I'm game."

At this point there was no point in trying to save the slacker student. She was dead from the second she loosed her scream and ran into the open hallway full of 'them'. It was not an  easy task though; standing around as someone you once knew was being eaten alive, but Cody gritted his teeth and tried his best to ignore the girls pleas for help and screams of agony until it had finally subsided.

Sweat dripped down his forehead as he thought of a way to get out. There still wasn't anything they could do, simply because they didn't know anything about 'them', and Cody knew that one of them would need to risk something. The dark skinned girl was right after all. They couldn't stay here in this room forever. Luckily, they'd fortified themselves in a well supplied room full of potential weapons. Cody wasn't very strong, but he was certain he'd  be able to kill 'them' if he was armed and didn't attack like an idiot.

"What now"

It was the first time the thought even occurred to Cody. They were safe, they knew they needed to escape, but how? He stared at one of the infected, it's blank lifeless stare reaching back at him. Even though it had been staring directly at Cody, it made no  move to attack him though. Why? It'd attacked the other screaming students in the halls, hadn't it? So why not him?

Because I'm not screaming. Yes, that was the only thing that made sense to him. Physically, the nerves must be dead all over the body, so the eyes should be unresponsive. That was the logical reasoning, but logically, corpses shouldn't get up and walk around, so for all Cody knew, the one staring at him was just planning how to get in. He doubted the latter though, since another was walking back and forth into a wall, and was obviously not going to be planning anything.

Alicia spoke up after Cody had reached his thoughts. He knew Alicia. Not well, and not in person, but they'd had some classes together in the past. He couldn't help but feel a little relief in knowing she was with them. She was a military child, so she'd know more about surviving in hostile territory than any of the others. It put a bad taste in his mouth, but she was right. They'd need to kill 'them' to live. But two problems presented themselves to Cody. The first, these monsters were already dead. Could they really be killed again? The second, if they could be killed, how? The brain and heart might still be working, and if they were, shutting those down might be the key. This would need to be tested though, and soon.

"Guys, wait here. Hopefully I'll be back soon." As he finished, he walked back to the store room, and picked up a 4 foot metal rod. He blessed his luck at the weight and feel of the rod. It was similar to the weight of a katana, and felt close to the same as one. It wasn't perfect, far from it in fact, but for now it'd have to do. Now that he was armed, phase two of his plan came into play. He moved back to the window and slowly slid it open a crack. No reaction from the infected. The others likely thought him suicidal, but he needed to do this. For the good of the six of them.

Quietly, carefully, and slowly, he opened the window just enough for him to quietly slip out. The infected he had been having the staring contest with had finally noticed him as his shoes made a light tap against the floor. His arms and legs grew shaky now. Perhaps this wasn't a good idea. No, one of us needs to do this. The others have as much right to turn it down as I do, and I wouldn't ask any of them to. He gripped the rod with both his hands and held it before him like a sword.

The infected began to advance. It's cold lifeless moan growing steadily more excited. None of the others seemed to notice Cody however. He assumed they were too far off to here his shoes touch. His palms grew sweatier and sweatier. He took a step back, as the fear of killing reached him. What was he thinking? He couldn't kill this. It was once a human being with dreams and desires like he was. More than that, it was a former classmate of his.

No! This is happening! I don't have any others choice! If I don't, I'll become one of "them"!

The infected was nearly on him now. As the horrifying thought of joining the shambling and rotting bastards that'd claimed so many of his friends became more and more real to him, he closed his eyes, and swung the rod striking the infected in the right side of the head, directly on the temple. The moaning stopped as the thud of his rod struck the monster, and sending it head first into the tile. This time, the infected reacted. Luckily the closest one was still 10 feet away, which gave Cody enough time to find something, a binder that'd been dropped during the panic, and hurl it against the wall in the direction of the nearest infected, down the middle hallway.

The clang of the metal rings resounded around the school, causing the infected gathered by Cody to turn their attention from him to the binder that had struck the wall. Cody's theory was right. 'They' did react to sound, and not sight. Now that he knew, he slipped himself back into the room, and shut the window as quietly as he could. A huge sigh escaped him as he fell against the wall and began to catch his breathe. But that wasn't the end. They still needed a way out.

"The fire alarm." he said as he panted, keeping his voice calm aside from the panting. "The zom- the monsters see with their ears. They rely on their hearing to find prey. We pull the fire alarm, and it'll blind the ones inside. Only problem is the school will basically become a beacon to any outside with the alarm going off. Alicia, we'll need to get to your landrover before the school is filled anymore if we try this."

His heart continued to beat at light speed. He wasn't fully sure he'd even be able to make it to landrover, but he'd need to try. "First, I'm Cody Renner. If we're gonna be sticking together, we should at least know each others names, right?"

The brief silence from Alicia's words, sure, did unsettle her, like she'd said something absolutely stupid; she was less unsettled by 'them' but that really wasn't a matter of importance. She figured a simple logic applied: for them to be able to move, they would need a brain. Albeit they should need a heart to function, the fact these things were simply decaying ruled out the importance of blood.

She was absolutely gobsmacked watching Cody act, albeit brave, foolish action of confronting the...'those' which immediately made her hush the others, watching Cody carefully. The thought was rushing in her head, he'd just jumped to his death. Taking out a nail just in case, she watched closely and, suddenly...

...well, he had knocked its block off. Much to Alicia's surprise, of course. From what she knew of Cody he wouldn't have harmed a fly, well reflected by his initial hesitence. But he actually managed to swallow his gut and swing that bar to discover something crucial.

Cody began to unfold a plan, to which Alicia stood up to and listened. He was right, for now they responded to sound. He used quite a witty idea by bringing out the use of a fire alarm, that would hopefully distract them long enough for Alicia to get her vehicle open and get them on the road safe and sound for a while.

Taking out her keys she took some more tape, binding the rest safe her Toyota's key together to prevent them clinging and clanging, and placed them in her breast pocket whilst returning to Cody saying "Alicia Dovedale."

"We should have a fire alarm in this room, so setting it off will not be an issue. Also, what not with sprinklers hopefully working, the floor may become tricky for 'them' to navigate upon. We could hold in here until we're ready, and then once everything is prepared, one of us can set off the alarm. But we need more than just tools. For example..."

Alicia, placing the thing on the table, pouted, being skilled with pistols and automatics, but the nail gun didn't quite improvise on either side enough. "I need more range." She said this whilst stuffing her belt with some nails from the storage room.

After introducing herself, Alex was searching for a way out of this mess when something caught her eye; the circular saw that she would always use for her woodwork classes. She had a feeling that this would come in handy somehow. And it was battery operated as well. The only problem was that circular saws were known to be loud, but Alex might be able to use that to lure 'them' into a disastrous situation of sorts. Perhaps a large pool, or an area strewn with traps... or even a minefield! Now that would be cool. Alex had just strapped the saw over her shoulder when Alicia mentioned the floor being tricky for 'them' to navigate should the sprinklers go off.

"So 'they' can't handle a lil' water, huh?" mentioned Alex, before she had an epiphany, and turned to Alicia specifically, "Wait, so if that means they can't swim... then why not have the pool as a midway point or something? We can probably send a scout from there to your ride, and lure any zombies in the way to the pool. With any luck, most of them'll fall straight into the pool and drown, and we might be able handle the odd few strays ourselves."

It may have not been the best idea, but Alex was more counting on the others suggesting some patch-ups of some kind.

Jensen just stood and listened as everyone spoke. When he heard the woman talk about her LandCruiser outside, all that he could think of this woman was that she was way too prepped for a situtaion like this-- then again, this military buff might end up saving their lives. He continued to listen and watch until that guy said that he'd be back. "What is he talking about?" Jense thought to himself. He was shocked to see that the guy opened the window to get out into the hall. "This guy's a psycho, I have to stop him before--" hi thoughts were interrupted bu the uniformed girl hushed them. Jensen was shocked that they were just sitting idely by and letting him do this. It was stupid and he could get them all killed. He stood and watched, not knowing if he should do something or not. When the guy got back, he started making plans about using the fire alarm and asking names. Everyone joined in but Jensen didn't hear much excepttheire names, 'fire alram', and 'we're all gonna die.' Of course, that last thing wasn't actually said, he just assumed someone was thinking it. When he saw the Alex girl grab a power saw, he lost some faith in these people. He didn't want to be a downer, but d*mn are these folks crazy.

"I don't have any objections to this little plan of ours but if we do set off a fire alarm in this school, we're gonna have to get really far really fast because it's gonna draw in a whole lot of unwanted company headed towards the school so we don't want to be in their way. Let's just hope the 'LandCruiser' has a full tank. And the water thing. How do we know that water hinders them? Heck, it's just a sprinkler system for now, that'll hinder us aswell." Jensen explained. "And sending a 'scout' to the car? No offense, if we're going for that, we all need to stick together. If any of us get spread out, we could lose. Fast." he said, trying to ease his worries. "My name's Jensen, by the way. Nice to survive with you all." he said sarcastically.

Like most people would do after calming doing and regaining their right mind, Jaden reached for his phone to dial his parents. His mother first seeing as she hadn't the military training his father held. Predictably he couldn't reach her, and it was only repeated with his father. Jaden could only hope that they were together and safe. His next call was his youngest brother's middle school, but just like with his parents he received. The rest of his calls were more or less the same. His oldest brother was over seas, having decided to go to college in Europe so hopefully he was safe from whatever was going on, but in the case of some type of global epidemic then that probably wasn't the case. With a quiet sigh to lowered himself to an empty seat, loosening the tie around his neck. Unlike a few others, Jaden wasn't the type of guy to externalize his feelings and act them out. Instead he liked to think things through to find out how best to handle a situation, and though this was definitely not something he was remotely familiar with, he didn't panic like the others. Well, he didn't panic as long as the others did. The few moments he froze in shock saved him from the stampede of student's in the halls and being stuck in the swarm of yelling peers. As he tried to escape he was stopped at every turn until he found his way here where a few others were, before more arrived.

He didn't know any of them, not even recognizing faces. The boy who was the last to enter asked if any of them knew what was going on. That was the million dollar question. He looked shook up, which was understandable considering what was going on. Only someone completely detached would not feel anything at all to the current situation. Jaden noticed his eyes glance to the window where a lone infected was trudging around. Jaden was curious about those things. For one, despite there being so many of them in the room none of the infected were trying to get them, other than the group the kid brought with him which were quickly lured away by a loud female scream from further away. That along with his earlier encounter with one of them. As he was hiding on his way to the room he was currently in, one of them walked right by him but didn't attack. Since he noticed they went after those who screamed, he assumed that they used sound to hunt. There was a blond chick smoking, and another kid looking like he wanted to be anywhere else but here. Jaden knew the feeling. Another girl asked if any of them noticed weaknesses, and Jaden was going to mentioned what he noticed when the silver haired chick began talking. Obviously she had some type of survivalist training, and it was proving to be quite useful during this time. She even had a land cruiser, but as she said, Jaden wasn't putting much hope in that since it may be swarmed by the infected. She pulled out a few things, sporting a tool belt around her waist.

Suddenly the kid from earlier decided to be either brave, or stupid - probably more so the latter - and move towards the infected. 'What the hell is he doing?'Jaden wondered watching him in shock as everyone else was. 'He'll be killed if he tries to go up against it. We don't even know if they can be taken down.'Though his plan was explained when he chucked a discarded binder at the wall, the noise resonating though the hall. The infected completely bypassed the boy in favor of the sound. 'Looks like I was right earlier...They do react to sound...That and feeding are probably the only two senses they have left.'

When he returned he mentioned that they could use the fire alarm to disorientate them, before suggested they introduce themselves since they would be together for a while, Not a bad idea. He was Cody. The silver haired chick was Alicia, and the rest introduced themselves. "Jaden McDaniel." He said loud enough for them to hear before going quiet to hear what was being said. "I have to say I agree with Jensen, with both the water and the scout plan. Though it seems the fire alarm idea is the best we have so far so we'll just have to deal with the water. The scout plan probably wouldn't be best. Even if you stay quiet enough for them to not notice you, if you make the mistake and get surrounded by them you'd be beyond anyone's help. Even if we had proper weapons I wouldn't recommend it. It's smarted if we move as a group, and needless to say, as quiet as possible. Even if we do move slowly."

Jaden then heard Alicia mention the nail gun she had needed more range, and he glanced at it. "There's not much you can do about range for that nail gun." He walked over, picking it up to inspect it closer. "Being that it's battery powered, and the shape it doesn't give it good stability for long range, which is why you only have about 6 feet range....I could probably find some way to provide more stability which could add more range, but there's only so much that can be done with a nail gun and the materials at hand." He said glancing around the room. 'Guess my dad being a gun fanatic is actually helpful...'

Alyssa turned the whittling knife in her hand, and absently listened to what Alicia had to say. Unlike everyone else she didn’t immediately pick up her phone to call her parents, was that the kind of person she was now, an emotionless monster Alyssa mused to herself. No, as much as Alyssa didn’t want to admit it to herself she was afraid of what she might find out if she called her parents, as she already knew knowledge was a burden some couldn’t bear. Unlike some of the other kids her parents weren’t gun fanatics, military veterans, or had any sort of useful survivalist skill, so it was a very likely chance that her parents had been… infected and become one of ‘them’.

Alicia immediately took charge after Jensen asked his question, and Alyssa was seemingly ignored, so she slowly moved herself further to the back of the room. Alyssa only raised an eyebrow, wondering why Alicia had stopped talking abruptly, and turned to notice the girl in a closet. Of course since Alyssa had never been to this room she had no clue what it was, and only when Alicia returned with the tools in hand did her mouth form into and “o” of understanding. Alyssa again tuned out most of Alicia’s speech until her glare passed over her, and Alyssa narrowed her eyes back, and took a defensive stance. Alyssa moved to make a comment and had just opened her mouth when Cody opened the window, and stepped out to face the infected.

Alyssa stopped exactly where she was not daring to move a muscle, trembling slightly, as Cody hit the infected with a metal rod, and then through a binder down the hallway in an attempt to distract the zombies, which worked, and slipped back inside the room. Alyssa straightened and breathed out a sigh of relief and mused over how ‘they’ seemed to be distracted by sound, which was only confirmed and elaborated by Cody. At his strategy Alyssa smirked ever so slightly, at the irony of the statement, the one time pulling the fire alarm when there wasn’t a fire being a good thing, at least the kid wasn’t a total idiot.

It was then that Alyssa realized that she was still in front of Alicia, and had made a move towards her, but she decided to cover her advance having lost her previous bravado, after Cody’s little display, walking past Alicia close to the door of the classroom, where a map of the floor they were on was posted. “We can use this to plan an escape, find the closest, and most direct route to your LandCruiser, which like he said I hope has a full tank of gas,” Alyssa said a slight sneer in her voice, which Alicia might have been able to hear.

“Oh by the way I’m Alyssa Ravencroft, for any of you who give a damn. I honestly won’t be that useful unless someone has some sort of bow with them, because I’m not the sort of type that handles weapons. Also I’m just going to say that the idea of splitting up is absolutely stupid there are too many ways in can go wrong, and I’m certainly not going out there alone with those things,” this time though Alyssa made the sneer in her voice obvious, contempt dripping off her words.

Alicia's eyes twitched a little, with a soft sigh she simply said, to ease the concerns, "I can afford, and have been affording, a full tank of diesel; I can assure you fuel is no concern for a while, but by no means will it not be a concern in the future." She did have to admit, the "hopes of a full tank" we quite irritating to her, but she let out a sigh, even so much as brushing Alyssa's sneer. She disregarded it and simply took a deep, calming breath. Tension was high, best not to be irrational. Stay in line. Stay focussed on the objective. Stay alive.

With her military-conditioning kicking in and killing her nerves in their tracks she looked to Jaden and let out a somewhat light-hearted chuckle, nodding to him. "Improvised weaponry never really meets the quality of a real gun; this isn't my favoured choice either, but I know I will be able to make some use of it; I don't want to apply a 'greaser' stereotype, but any quick work on this gun would be very useful."

She then pondered and gazed over the to school's layout. Assuming every single room, every single corner was filled with 'them' they didn't have much choice. Alicia then gazed to Jensen, him seeming to be the one to go to in need of a constructive counterargument, and asked "We say we need to rush to the vehicle, but exactly where is the parking lot from here? I'm never often in this wing. If it isn't too far away we could sneak away to another fire exit and stalk to the vehicle, as a single unit."

Alicia's forte was not strategy, she knew this. She tested well, because she could respond to the need of a question. She was a soldier. Looking over to Jaden in hopes of a form of customization to the nail gun she looked around the room to make sure everyone was armed. Cody has his metal pipe, Alex had a hand-saw, she had a nail gun, Alyssa refused weapons. Her concerns turned to Jaden as she took out her spare nails, pocketing them, and then strapping the tool-armed tool belt around Jaden's waist, eyes somewhat admiring his physique. "You're likely to do well with one of these if you know your weapons physics."

Returning her attention to the issues she simply turned to Cody and asked "If you're brave enough to go out there, albeit without at all any sense, you've got enough courage to get a decision made. There's no question we need to move to the car, and get out of here ASAP; how are we reaching our location?" She then turned the question to Jensen, the reality check, confident in his ability to speak his mind, and even come up with some ideas of his own.

"Dropping them in the pool would be a good strategy in a prolonged battle, but if we stay here long after the alarm sounds, we're screwed." Cody said as he dragged himself to his feet. As far as arms goes, they didn't have much, and Alyssa was refusing them too, so that was one less fighter. all the same, fighting wasn't their priority. The pool being a midway point was a good idea though. With 'them' dazed and blinded, it'd throw pursuers off, but splitting up. Well, that'd be bad for everybody. Primarily the one who took off.

Fortunately, Jaden seemed to  know something about guns, and was possibly capable of altering the nail gun for more proficient use. At least it'd be capable of hitting things a ways off. That, and they wouldn't need to worry about ammo too much, since nails were more or less everywhere. That, and while still loud, it was quieter than a normal gun, and would there for draw less attention. Now all that remained was to find a way out.

No matter what they did, they were gonna need to kill 'them' again at one point. The thought of killing the one that he did kill was already weighing enough on Cody, and he was going to need to kill more. He gripped the pipe tighter. If I don't kill them, then the others will die too. Not to mention myself. He wasn't left with any choice, but it still made him sick to think about it.

He started thinking again. Focusing on trying to find at least one solution that didn't end  in the death, or infection of each member. Staying together was a part of it yes, but there was more to it than that. The main problem was that they didn't know where 'they' had clustered together and where 'they' had spread apart. So many things could go wrong it wasn't even funny,  but they needed to try something.

Alicia spoke to him now. Brave? Him? He thought she must be mistaken. "It wasn't bravery. We needed to know how they work and if fighting is even possible. I just didn't think it was right to ask anyone else to do it." He couldn't help a small blush though. He was just complemented by a girl. An attractive one too.

"Alyssa, take the map. We can use it to find the fastest way to the parking lot. We'll need to find the area's that're less thick with them as well and take those routes. I'd like to avoid fighting. If we stop to fight every one of 'them' we'll most likely be overwhelmed and killed before we know it. Focus only on killing the ones directly in our path and running." He looked away from the group now, thinking about any possible way to get there. Best to avoid the gym. That's a straight path to the parking lot, but it's probably crawling with 'them' by now. Cafeteria too. Then it hit him. The auto mechanics room lead to the back of the school where a straight road to the parking lot was. Had to be there for students who needed to fix there cars up would be.

He relayed his plan to the group, then went back into the storage closet, only to reemerge with a screw driver in his free hand before he continued. "We'll need to get the door unboarded though. If we use screw drivers to remove the screws, it'll be slower than the drills, but at least we won't be mobbed by 'them'. We don't need to worry about the gas of Alicia's rover for now. Let's focus on getting to it first, then worry about fuel and our next destination, but it seems a safe bet you're all worried about your family."

He acknowledged Alicia with a nod, "Well I'll do what I can." As he looked around the room to find something to modify the nail gun he already had something in mind. The best way to give it some stability would be to find a way to add a stock. The nail gun wouldn't have much, if any noticeable, recoil so not only would the stock help stability but that would also let her fire quicker. While looking he heard the soon introduced Alyssa's sneering comment about Alicia's ride hopefully having a full tank of gas. The comment looked to have irked Alycia but she didn't follow up on it which was a good thing. Having rifts in the group so early on isn't good, but Jaden knew there would be some clashing personalities. It was only natural when people with different personalities were place in one room. Alyssa also managed to locate a map, probably one of the more useful things in the room. She also revealed she was skilled in archery. A useful skill now that they knew those things were attracted to sound. Bows, and crossbows were silent and great for stealth.

Deciding to go back to his current task he found some wood that would work perfectly. It was an 'L' shape the horizontal part being about 3 inches thick. He found another piece, placing the horizontal pieces together until the edges touched. Using some duct tape not far away he applied a generous amount of tape so the wood stayed together. The space between it was enough for the nail gun to fit snugly  placing it far enough out so it could be gripped comfortably. Again, he used the duct tape to wrap around the wood, and nail gun, weaving it around so that it won't fall from under it. He tested it out, bracing it against his shoulder. The length wasn't completely there for him, but Alicia's arms would be slightly shorter than his so it should be fine. Using a saw he chopped off the excess pieces. With the extra pieces he cut up a small inch thick, 6" long rectangular wood, then creating and indention right in the middle. Using some monster glue sitting on the table, he carefully glued it to the top of the makeshift stock, a little before where the nail gun ended, as a crude sight. The monster glue worked quickly, and again he tested it out. Not the best work, but surely better than nothing.

Jaden noticed Alicia seeing how far he had come, and he turned about to let her know he finished all he could. Though before he could she walked over, taking the initiative to equipping the tool belt around his waist. Jaden wasn't sure exactly how to react to her close proximity, but avoided looking down considering he was taller than her. After a few words she walked off, and Jaden was still unsure of how to respond. Though he decided to not comment on it altogether and simply mention the modified nail gun still in his hand, "Here. This should work for now until something better comes along. Make sure it's comfortable for you."

Hearing that they were starting to make a plan Jaden decided to throw in his two cents, "We all agreed we should stay in a group, and I'm not saying to not keep this but walking around as one huddled group could be just as dangerous. So I say that we form a sort of line with two taking the front, two in the middle and two taking up the rear. The two in the front could lead us out. The middle group watching the first, and the last group watching the rear. Since Alicia knows where the car is she should be in the front group, with Cody also being in the front. We all can agree he has guts for what he did moments earlier, even if it was dangerous. So I wouldn't be opposed to him taking the lead. Besides with Alicia having the nail gun, and Cody's metal pipe it's a decent combination. The middle group, should be Jensen and Alyssa. Alyssa doesn't have a weapon at the moment so she needs to be in the middle, and Jensen with his club is best to be paired with her. He can watch out for her, if he's up to it." Jaden didn't mean it as to call him out, but as a sincerer question on whether he would protect Alyssa if it came to it. "The rear would be myself and Alex. I like to think I'm pretty quick, I was on the basketball team so if they got close I could try to avoid them. Alex also has that circular saw, which creates a lot of noise." He glanced at her to see if she was ok with it, "So if something goes wrong on the way to the fire alarm and they are catching up that will be the best way to create a distraction." The others probably realized where he was going, "If it comes to that I'll take the saw and run, discarding it once I'm far enough." He didn't consider himself a selfless person by too many means, but he knew that while he was worried for his family and their well being the current matters took precedence. "In another scenario  if the group is split up we should try to remain with our partners so that we aren't completely alone. In either of those cases it would be best for Alicia to tell us where the car is so we can attempt to meet there. Also considering you two," He nodded at Alicia and Cody, "Have the best weapons, if we do get separated you would be our best chance at going after the fire alarm. Just remember to say quiet, and hopefully everything should go smoothly."

Jaden hoped he didn't sound like some know-it-all jerk, as he was simply trying to think of a way to get them out safely. Thinking about it as a large game of chess, though keeping in mind that this was real life. "Of course, that's just an idea, and it could possibly work along with your idea Cody." He ended slipping back into his earlier silence.

Jensen listened as Alyssa spoke. When he noticed the tone of her voice, he just smirked and looked down. He knew folks couldn't be judged in situations like this but it doesn't help to be like that either. Alicia began asking him a question and he listened. Cody answered Alicia's questions before Jensen spoke but he didn't worry about it. He wasn't quite sure how to answer her anyway. He heard Alicia call what Cody did 'courage'. Jensen couldn't tell if he was couragous or stupid. Either way, he got the job done-- less for him to do now. Jensen stood and listened as Cody explained his plan and then as Jaden added to it but he had a couple of concerns. "Alright, as much as I'd love to be protecting map girl, there's a few things I want to ask. If we're in such a tight formation, wouldn't that be just like being on your own? The tigher you are, the closer they can get so if we're spread out but still together, we can still fend them off. Seems a lot like a turkey shoot to me. Y'know, kill the one at the end of the line so that the rest don't scatter. Besides, it'd be pretty hard to move like that-- I expect to be moving quickly so I don't want to be tripping on someone's saw. Speaking of the saw, that's a whole other bad idea but if you want to keep that bait on you, go right ahead. I won't be sticking around when that thing starts up-- especially if these things absolutely react to sound." he explained to the group. He wasn't trying to come off as a jerk but he wasn't just going to go with an idea that he sees more than a few flaws in. He hated to question this plan because he wanted out of there soon. The one thing he'd much rather do sooner than later. he also didn't want to be stuck protecting probably the most useless person in the room at the moment unless he had to.

It was rather quickly that Alex's idea of sending a scout was shot down... by three different people in fact, although the latter did so in the most disrespectful manner, with what that sneering and all. Something told Alex that Alyssa was going to be problematic along this journey... probably more so than what it was worth. Still, at least she was given the map, since she had nothing better to hold. And if push came to shove, Alyssa could also serve as a meat shield for 'them' to gnaw on while the others high-tailed it out of there. That would certainly by the case if the girl had gotten too far onto Alex's nerves.

At least Alex could take comfort in the hearing of a plan that she actually liked. That plan incidentally came from Jaden, who suggested that the group take a form of line formation, with Alicia and Cody at the front, Alyssa and Jensen in the middle and him and Alex bringing up the rear.

"Y'know, I actually like that plan," Alex told Jaden, "Except the part where you take the saw. I'm the one that picked it up in the first place, so I feel as though I should be the one to take the saw away from everyone and getting rid of it, you get what I'm saying? Besides, I just might be faster in that kind of situation."

Alyssa looked incredulously at Alex and Jaden, “Are you kidding me, I mean for all that is good in this world, don’t take the chainsaw! Why!? Why would that even come to your head as a viable option? An excessively loud machine, to use against an enemy that is attracted to sound, I mean honestly what is the thought process here we might as well bring a jackhammer a start banging pots and pans?” Alyssa kept her voice to a low hiss to well aware that if she shouted that could attract some of ‘them’. She shook her head getting tired of the people around her , really couldn’t she even catch a break for the end of the world.

It seemed that several people were also upset at the fact that she didn’t have a weapon, what they were unhappy because she could go head to head with the undead, well you know what people had pushed her around too much during her life and she wasn’t going to take this from these people. “Well you know what I’m sorry I’m not a prefect little soldier, or my dad was in the military, or a gun fanatic, or the fact that I don’t come prepared with a million other skills that help me come prepared to the apocalypse.” By now Alyssa moved towards the map, and easily ripped it off the sticky tack that held it to the wall.

Alyssa gave her glare from person to person, only to realize what she was in the group now. The variable, the liability, her unchecked emotions made her volatile, she usually had a good check on her emotions. “I… I… I am sorry I acted unreasonably. The stress of this day seems to have taken its toll on me, if you’ll excuse me I’m going to remove myself from the group for a while… until… I have returned to a proper mental state.” Alyssa said it like a robot, she put herself on auto-pilot just going through the motions. She handed to map to Alicia, “You can make better use of this than me at the moment.”

With that Alyssa slinked away to the back of the classroom, pressed her back against it, and slid down into a fetal position. What did she look like now… a charity case, someone who needed other people’s help.  Alyssa hated the feeling, hated that she had cracked in front of the rest of them, hated herself for not being able to keep her emotions bottled, and most of all she hated that she felt like she needed to rely on someone.

Alicia, upon Cody's words, would reply "Bravery, like beauty, is to the eye of the beholder." with a civil smile; and after having attached the belt around Jaden's waist took the modified nail-gun with a grateful thank you, holding it up and getting it comfortable in her grip; with this she had tested it out a little, quite silent already, and it did do alright on a thin sheet of wood, but there was the benefit of decayed skin and bone on 'them' which would make her gun ever so slightly more efficient.

She then turned to Jaden, almost taken, at the surprising plan that he offered. Though it did wind out for a while she listened to each and every single word. It was quite straight forward and it worked well: Cody would act as a snowplough in a sense with her up front, the former taking out close range whilst the latter able to silently slay in the distance. With the more fragile member fastened in the centre alongside Jensen, she'd be okay, because Jensen just absolutely stunk of the whole Silent = Deadly archetype of person, at least from his impression so far. Alex with her very loud weapon in the back might act as a last-call distraction, and Jaden seemed in fighting form.

Alicia inwardly smiled at Jensen's logical rebuttle. She could foresee he'd be very efficient. Again he conveyed himself not as a pessimist, but the realism to their planning. She nodded to his remarks, his logic, it was simple and it was natural regarding the idea of fleeing with the saw turned on. This inward smile almost turned to laughter as Alex made her bark back. She seemed quite possesive of her saw.

Alyssa then suddenly bursted out again, evidently she seemed to feel the pressure from the other's view on her negativity. I won't lie, Alicia did feel it too. But the more she conveyed herself the more Alicia read into a deeper meaning. Alyssa was right, she wasn't ready for an apocalypse. What made matters worse was certainly the fact she (Alyssa) was being overwhelmed by the fact many of those she once called allumni were dying. It was evident this would shake up any normal person, and that's quite what she was, just a normal person.

Alicia sighed softly and asked the others to be quiet for a while for her sake as she took a deep breath. Very rarely would she show this different side of her, however she wouldn't leave Alyssa like this. Walking over, and kneeling down to her, Alicia glanced over to Alyssa's direction and softly spoke.

"You're absolutely right, you know? You're not a perfect soldier. You're not ready for all this, I can see and understand that. It isn't hard to understand that not everyone will be as ready for this...change...than others; but not for one second are you any less important than the rest of us. You don't need to be a soldier to survive this, you just need to want to survive; and I hope you do, Alyssa. Now, lets look at what's what. Right now, we don't want you to be a soldier, we're not expecting you to wield a weapon. We just need you alive and into my car so we can get somewhere safer. That's all you need to do, okay?" Alicia let out a small smile to her hoping she'd get what she was trying to convey.

With that said she stood up, and her face, again, turned into her stern gaze, not to intimidate, but an authoritarian leer. She looked to the others and said "These respond to sound, so it is obvious what we need to do." Whilst saying this she approached Jaden again, and admitedly was a little snug as she took our a few screwdrivers from his belt, probably just a tease, as she offered them to the rest, evidently to put Cody's door-opening plan into action.

"Our battle plan is very simple: we will be as quiet as possible. I will use my nail-gun to take out targets from afar, hopefully to draw attention over there. There's no doubt we're reaching my car, and based on the map I could say its simply walking out a fire exit, across the yard, around the Drama Studio, and we're there; now, Alex, if I were you I'd keep your Saw Silent for now, and use it as a blunt object. When we need the distraction it is down to you to turn it on and deal with it as you want."

Alicia then proceeded to the door and began to slowly unscrew one screw as she mouthed "Time is precious; we need to move as soon as possible."

Without another word, Cody handed Alyssa his screwdriver, then proceeded to take another for himself. Luckily the room was stocked for a classroom of up to 30 students, so there was more than enough for six people to take one each. Once he'd found his new screwdriver, he proceeded back to Alyssa, and held out his hand for her, the same way characters in movies did when they wished to symbolize accepting someone into their group. Cliche, sure, but Cody thought it was fitting here.

"Alicia's right. None of us were prepared. If anything, I'd say we all just got lucky. Sure, maybe some training kicked in, but we don't know that it'll help us as much as we think out there. Besides, I don't know about the others, but I'm not willing to leave anyone behind." He smiled confidently at Alyssa, as he waited for her to accept them as her allies.

------

It'd been a nearly an hour since Cody and the others had started to remove the boarding that they'd set up, but now, they were finally about finished. Normally a job like this would be far less tedious, and it wasn't that there was a lot of work that needed to be done, but for some reason the screws had kept squeaking and grinding as they attempted to remove them from the boards. Every time they did, the entire group froze, listening for any sign that the infected had become reaware of their presence. Still, the slow constant turning was beginning to grow on Cody's wrists. Any longer, and  he might have been unable to  fight through the waves of the infected.

Finally, the boards were loose enough to remove. Cody and Alicia took the head, and pulled the boards off. They were the ones taking point  afterall,  so they should be the first out. "Jaden, wait by the fire alarm there." Cody said as the last board was removed. "You and Alex are going to be the last out, so you'll need to pull it in order to hold our formation. Alicia, once he does, you and I need to clear the hall in front of us before we proceed. Remember, don't go for any that aren't in your immediate path or otherwise won't interfere." He placed his hand on the door knob and gripped his rod with the free one. "Remember, if you  get close to one, aim for the head. If that's not possible, break the legs. They might be dead but it should still apply that losing legs will slow them down."

Gotta stay focused. For the others, and for myself. You can relax when ALL of us make it out.

He gripped the rod tighter, then nodded to Jaden to pull the alarm. As soon as he did, Cody burst through the door, exposing the hallway filled with 'them'. Pulling the alarm was the right idea too. "They' had obviously lost any sense of vision due to the piercing sound echoing through the halls. Cody hoped the others had made it out safely, but he was unwilling to look back to check on them for fear that when he did, he might unwittingly let them down by letting one of 'them' get by him. His attacks were hesitant at first, and he allowed himself to get a little closer to 'them' than he should have,  but with each kill, his hesitance faded. He still closed his eyes when he crushed one of the infecteds skulls and painted the walls with their blood, but he was definitely killed them. Good thing too, the faster they got out the better.

None of them know it, but they only had a single hour to escape before they were completely surrounded...

Once again Alyssa barked, and was starting to get onto Alex's nerves. She was tempted to aggressively ask the girl to shut the hell up, but Alex wasn't about to let 'them' go all over the group just because she yelled at someone. Instead, Alex just cast a stern glare at Alyssa, letting slip a groan of frustration. Still, if Alex had her way, she'd tie Alyssia to a pole the next time the girl said anything, and then tie an old-fashioned alarm clock to her back and activate it. But her thoughts digressed.

Now was the time focus on the game plan. It was already decided that Jaden would be the one to throw the switch to the fire alarm, while Cody and Alicia took point at the front of the pack. At this point, Alicia had kindly advised Alex to use the saw as a blunt weapon for now, and only run it properly when the distraction was in order.

"That was the plan," said a confident Alex, before her attention turned to the doorway.

Alyssa sat there quietly silently listening to Alicia speak to her taking small calming breaths, she nearly cried at Alicia’s speech to think that she would offer such words to Alyssa after she had been such a b****, especially to Alicia, who was now being her emotional rock. Finally once Alicia had finished Alyssa lifted her head, and locked her gaze with Alicia’s and nodded as she was still weak and didn’t trust her voice. Cody also provided a small piece of sentiment, and she accepted his hand lifting herself up. Alyssa shook her head, and smoothed out her hair and clothes, which had become rumpled during her outburst. She walked to the door and paced her screwdriver to work on the boards.

About an hour later, after the constant stress of the infected noticing them if a board or screw squeaked, and turning the job was done. Alyssa’s arm was slightly sore after all that turning, and she shook them hoping to alleviate the soreness by moving the muscles. Alyssa backed off as Alicia and Cody removed the boards, and Cody explained the battle plan. As it stood Alyssa found she couldn’t really do anything useful, so she backed away from the door to give Alicia a clear line of sight, and not be in the way as people rushed out. She would be just behind Jensen as they left, and hopefully she could at least be of some use with her screw driver, but considering it didn’t have to much reach it was highly unlikely.

Jaden pulled the alarm, and the piercing shriek of the fire alarm ripped through the school, and as they had planned effectively blinding ‘them’. First out of the room Cody dashed forward taking out the infected with his rod, hesitant at first, but becoming more confident with each swing. Alyssa moved closer to Jensen waiting for Alicia and then Jensen to make their move before she leapt into the belly of the beast.

Alicia offered a smile to Alex's confident return, she was quite logical, and she knew well how to use her weapon of choice tactically. Great minds did think alike it seemed. Her gaze them met that of Alyssa, it made her smile. If even just for now she was on board with them. Albeit, due to her speech, which did stroke her ego to a bit, she was happy for her to be working co-operatively with the team, even so much as unscrewing the fastened boards which, as of the hour later, were taken down.

With the door boards down, and the battle plan imprinted into her mind, Alicia took a calming breath before drawing out her modified nail-gun, ready for action, and as soon as the fire alarm was pulled by Jaden, with Cody bursting through the door, Alicia quickly whispered to Jensen "Take care of Alyssa." before rushing out and taking aim. The alarm, though effective in blinding 'them' through overwhelming resonation, did impair her aiming ever so slightly, as it would; this would be bound to knock off Alicia's concentration to a degree.

However, the alarm also offered the screeching bell, which in turn made her weapon as good as being silent, therefore giving the survivors a very good cloak of darkness in the hall.

Swiftly, Alicia drew out her modified weapon, in a manner swift yet with grace, before unleashing a barrage of nails far from what would be considered graceful. Crouching somewhat to improve her line of sight she volleyed the nails at the undead, in the distance legs were skewered and shattered from pressurized nail ploughing through decayed marrow and flesh. Up close, a clean shot through the skull offered a messy performance of precious grey matter being flung from the opposite of heads, though a small amount at that. Even so, any brain damage is heavy damage.

Alicia moved up with Cody, behind him slightly as he crushed those in front at first instance with his pipe, quite impressively. She offered him the cover he'd need, staying close enough to ensure there were none of 'them' able to close in and divide them apart. The fire alarm was a wonderful idea, the sound even washed away to unholy moans they squelched, as well as the sounds of the survivor's weapons and respective grunts. With the target in her sight, the door outside, Alicia smiled and continued to unleash hell upon 'them'.

However, a sudden claw was about to thrash in Alicia's way, one from behind her back.

In order to keep from arguing he simply agreed with Alex, "Fine, you can use it for the distraction if it comes to that. However, I'll come with you so you wont be alone." For the most part  everyone agreed with the plan, though Alyssa seemed to have cracked under the pressure. Everyone could understand where she was coming from. Everyone handled the crisis differently. Jaden internalized everything and tried not to let it effect his decisions, but that didn't mean that he wanted to be here or was more prepared for this than anyone else? After a pep talk from Alicia, who was proving to be a pivotal asset in their group, Alyssa was feeling a bit better to move with the group. Again Jaden's space was invaded by Alicia who moved in, quite snug to his body, to grab a few screws so that could remove the boards from the windows. This time he couldn't help the tint of red on his cheeks, but he hid it, quickly getting rid of it.

A few painstakingly slow minutes later they were ready to burst out the door. Cody gave Jaden the task of pulling the alarm, who nodded and stood at the ready. At Cody's signal he rung the alarm, the screeching noise combing through the school and alerting every one of those things in the vicinity. The group ran out, Cody and Alicia doing an excellent job at holding of the few infected in the front. Grabbing two of the wrenches from the belt Jaden slammed the few stragglers coming up from behind. Luckily they were slow, so for the time being they were ok. The problem would come when too many of them surrounded them, being that the human to them ratio is in their favor. He looked at Alex to be sure she was doing fine and that she didn't need help.

Jensen wasn't interested in helping with taking out the nails from the door even if they did need him to do it, which they seemed not to. As the door was opened and alarm triggered, the group started systematically pouring out into the hall in a sort of formation. Jensen heard Alicia whisper, "Take care of Alyssa.", before she dashed out. "I wouldn't count on it." Jensen thought with a smirk. he didn't mean that he wouldn't protect her, he just meant that he might not be able to be around to do so for long. When it was Jensen's chance, "Stay close, but don't step on my feet." he said to Alyssa. He gripped his board-club tightly enough on the tape that it made a bit of a rubbing sound and ran out the door, hoping that Alyssa was right behind him, but not looking back. Jensen saw that one of 'them' was about to get Alicia but there was also one coming up on Jensen's right. He swung his weapon as quickly as he could at the head of the one coming to his right, knocking it back to the ground, then quickly reaching and grabbing the collar of the 'thing' that was about to get Alicia and pulling it back a step or two to Jensen to give it a good one-hit beating to the back of its head, killing it. It was a pretty risky combo but it was all he could do at the moment.

Alyssa watched as Alicia took out several of ‘them’ moving quickly with her nail peppering the infected with nails, until the y finally fell. Slowly Alicia worked her way up to Cody, and Alyssa also moved closer to the door to be ready at a moment’s notice. Alyssa gripped her screw driver harder planning how she might be able to use it somehow to support the others, while she could use it like a throwing knife Alyssa wasn’t very familiar with the aerodynamic properties of a screwdriver, and doubted it flew the same as the darts she played with at home. Also it might take too long to retrieve the screwdriver from the body of one of them even if she could use it in such a way.

Alyssa was right behind Jensen as the sprinted out of the doors making sure to stay well out of his way as he bashed in the skull of one of ‘them’, and made a risky maneuver dashing recklessly towards Alicia to save her from one of the hands of the infected going for her.  By now the sound of the fire alarm had mixed with the sound of her rabidly beating heart, which pumped in her ears creating a song for the deadly dance they participated in. “Great we have our own theme song, what’s next we all become anime characters,” Alyssa muttered to herself. Alyssa had not dropped her bag yet either so while she was not able to kill the infected she was able to stall them by knocking them down with the blunt force of her bag.
