Nexus Format

Recommended Posts

I'm not only bringing back 2 formats, I'm fusing them together. This is Nexus Format.
Nexus Format is an attempt to make a fair ground for the game, hammering new decks to a relatively acceptable "balanced" level within the format's parameters while giving old and usually "obsolete" decks a chance to "rise from the ashes", without completely dominating the meta. This format will also combine the roles of both Chance and Restrict Format's ideologies:

Chance Format: To bring a more neutral playing ground so a variety of decks have a chance to be displayed, and even top and to bring a more skillful type of game-play into the game itself.

Restrict Format: An attempt to bring back a more varied form of Goat Control through the use of a more "restrictive" Ban List. As such, it'll be using both the OCG AND the TCG ban lists in unison, give or take a few cards.

I've been meaning to comment on this, but it's a topic that demands a long reply (pretty much) and haven't had the time to do anything this week. Just letting you know it does get some attention.

For a quick start in discussion, I think you are restricting cards that shouldn't be restricted here and there.

Lava Golem in the banned section was something that my eyes kept going back to. I don't think the card is abusive in the slightest.

You get rid of powerful cards potentially, but you still give away a 3000 ATK monster. It's a +0 unlike Volcanic Queen, which is actually a minus and has less of a reason to be around IMO.

You can make Creature Swap and Owner's Seal shenagigans, but that's nothing players can't recover from. If anything, it'd be weird to see people actually using non-Archetype-specific monsters like that.

I'm sure there are a lot more things to talk about, but I wanted to at least start the spark here with that.

If anything, I'd much more question Grandmole going up to 3.

It's not the most broken card out there, but I personally don't think Grandmole is well designed to be honest. If a player can't play around Grandmole, it's just gonna be a downward spiral of doom (slide effect) because it is a recurrent threat that by returning to the hand as well, essentially recycles itself.

Like I said. I'm moving cards. Im making notes throughout my workday and will publish them tmro. Still! You guys can help me edit this even more via looking through and making suggstions as to what to move where, what to remove from the list, problem cards I may have missed, etc etc. It would make editing tmro a lot easier. :3
Newly Banned:
Wind-Up Factory -> Because its essentially black whirlwind for wind ups.

Newly Game Breakers:
Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Chicken -> Test
Destiny HERO - Plasma -> It's a version of Restrict
Inzektor Dragonly -> Test
Madolche Hootcake -> Test

Herald of Perfection -> Test/Trying to bring back some Rituals

Gladiator Beast Gyzarus -> Bad design, but test.
Thousand Eyes Restrict -> Test

Card Destruction -> Test
Super Polymerization -> It seems reasonable at 1 as a Game Breaker

Newly Limiters:
Burner, Dragon Ruler of Sparks -> All Dragons are at 1, so let's give them 1 younger version back to each.
Constellar Sombres -> You can have this.
Evilswarm Kerykeion -> You can have this.
Gladiator Beast Bestiari -> To 1 because Gyzarus
Infernity Archfiend -> You can have this.
Lava Golem -> Because Akari's reasoning.

Magician of Faith -> Testing cuz slower format.
Maiden with Eyes of Blue -> To 1 because it's good.
Masked Chameleon -> Test
Mecha Phantom Beast Coltwing -> To 1 because it has a lot of support going for it. It's kinda like Bestiari, except for monsters and banishes...which can be "too good" given a slower format.

Alien Ammonite -> Aliens can have this to 2.
Archfiend Cavalry -> Archfiends can have this to 2.
Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Leopard -> You get chicken? Then something else gets hit.

Alright guys. I need some help. I would like some people to test the following themes tobsee potentially broken cards:

Madolches
Dragon Rules
Agents
Junk Synchro City
Evols
Something with Restrict
Mecha phantom beasts
Egyptian Gods
Gladiator Prisma
X-Sabers
Morphtronics.

Uts a pretty big list but any information would be helpful. Please post deck list to see how things are also. Reps for all who participate :3

Well see. So far they look and are theoratically tame especially if you consider grapha as your only win condition. Sure that kind of thinking is mediocre and I get what you intend to do with the deck...but its honestly slow enough for it to not warrant any other hits. And I did bring back card destruction because even though you can plus off with dark worlds, its no longer as devestating nor completely overwhelming as it would normally be.

Personally, I thing even a single card destruction is still far to powerful in darkworld decks. Also I said I'd post a review, and I do not lie.(often.)

I wont be going over the changes to the list, today, because that part I expect to continue changing drastically over time as new cards come and interact with the list..
THE OBJECTIVE:

The goal of this format is essentially what every player wants, a balanced game, and as a goal, it beats konami's goal of making money (even if konami is getting better at it).
I haven't seen the chance format, or the restrict format, but if this is the offspring of them, they must be wonderful parents.

NEXUS BAN LIST:
BANNED;
the list of cards is amazingly long, and i disagree with a few of the cards on the list. but i can understand the reasoning for most of the cards, some of them completely break game mechanics, or are the core cards in either OTKs, lockdowns, or overly solitaire plays. I don't believe some of these cards deserve to be banned

Like the utopia ray monsters, I think they would be fine at 1 as long as the ZW monsters got limited. to at least add some utopia variety. and shooting quasar isn't exactly ban worthy once you get rid of the cards that make him easy to summon, like librarian and rekindling. here are a few more that I doubt need banning like watthopper and ravine, cards like those could still be limited to 1 or in some cases 2, and not be all that broken.

GAME BREAKERS;
the Game breakers are all limited to 1 per deck, and I guess that is enough to make them balanced. there are only 12 of them, and I've already stated my thoughts that some of the cards on the banned list might be fine on the game-breaker list instead, other than that though, all 12 cards on this list deserve a place here. but I think some of the limit breakers should also go here as well because otherwise this list would still be far too short to have any significant effect on the game.

LIMIT BREAKERS;
150 cards.... that is quite a bit. even more than the banned list. since you can have up to 4 of the cards on this list in your deck though, I can see why you'd keep it at a high number. The variety would force people to think before they added just any cards on the list. promoting smarter building strategies.

POWER SKILLS;
this list hits a lot of archetypes, and not in a bad way,  from what I see of it, it cuts down the amount or power cards in every archetype, but I don't get why you don't just combine this list with the limit break one and just have a 6-7 card total limit, if you could explain your reasoning for this particular part, I'd be grateful.

SUPPORTS;
This list is fairly short, and i think there should be a few more monsters here, like some cards from limit breakers, and a few cards from meta, but that might just be favoritism speaking.

NO LONGER LIMITED;
4 limbs of Exodia... I don't think I've laughed this hard at a banlist since this last one (on the other hand, that was the first time I've ever laughed at any banlist ever. so that's a good thing.) this might as well be salt in the wound of Exodia decks.

I'm not really a HERO or ninja player, so I don't know much about what those cards can do.

DA RULES:
     0-1 Game Breakers, makes sense when you realize that that the list is fairly small

     0-4 Limit Breakers, with the sheer amount of cards on this list, the choices are quite plentiful, so the largest question I guess is what would your 4 cards be?

     0-6 Power Skills, the list is substantial enough to balance out the 6 card allotment. so nothing much to say here.

    0-8 Supports, the selection is quite small at the moment, so the large amount of cards allowed in comparison o the other lists is kind of a weakness right now.
Overall I'd give this list an 8/10, which is the highest rating I've ever given any banlist related to yu-gi-oh.

Power Skills are as they are because they are powerful cards or cards that aid in consistency while being at 2. At 3 they are a tad bit unfair and that's why I restict them here. So why is this different from limiters? Limiters are cards that do a moderate to an unfair change on the board especially in multiples. Think about E Dragons, Bear.dek, Mermails, Spellbooks, etc that normally require something like 3 of something. This cuts down and destroys those types of decks that are "one trick ponies" where that trick yields immersive amounts of +. E Dragons that actually require resouces to play, chickenless and shot in the limps fire fist, Mermails with far less "cost laughing", and spellbooks without ALL THE SEARCHERS are decks that we now have to think about making and using to the best of our abilities since c i unters can BBC e evident and can cost us the game now. You can still mke decks that revolve around a type of mechanic but not to the point of overusage. That's why we split limiters and power skills.

So why is Quasar Banned? Even if Librarian is banned, as well as other cards used to make it being hit, when Summoned you are nearly guaranteed the win for that game. What I want to do is avoid those situations as well. So wh y isn't halberd cannon hit? The answer is self explanatory: He's just not as overwhelming.

Next up the utopia monsters. If you noticed, I mainly those that have a certain broken mechanic to them. Why is honest banned? Why is Ring of Destruction banned? Add legs to them and quite a bit of support...and that's just not right nor fair. That's why I hit these in the way I did

Lastly Card Destruction - I want to see the effects yhis has ok n this fomat before taking any action, same like I did with Chicken (remember shadows?)
