Almost one hundred years ago, Maximillion J. Pegasus utilized an ancient Egyptian form of combat in the creation of the most popular card game in the history of mankind. Exploding onto the scene and beating out both another American game called Magic: the Gathering and later Japanese ripoffs, Duel Monsters cemented its place in entertainment history thanks to KaibaCorp creating a special holographic projection technology to capitalize on the popularity. The Duel Monsters World Championships became just as watched as the World Cups and Super Bowls. Professional duelists could easily rise to celebrity status. Special academies were established to allow for entrance into the professional leagues to be more seamless.

It wasn't until a freak accident on December 21st, 2012, changed the face of Japan forever. Still reeling from the Tohoku earthquake, a massive eruption of quantum particles was unleashed from Domino City's local KaibaCorp R&D facility, which was delving into a new type of infinite energy called "Momentum". This detonation of exotic energies rent the city asunder, causing the downtown portions of the city to shift a mile out to sea, which miraculously survived above water, though that was the only saving grace. The fractured metropolis would not be rebuilt for decades, and became known as "Satellite" to the rest of the city, which experienced a boom in its reconstruction to become Neo Domino City.

But the "Zero Reverse" incident, as it became known thanks to the common name for the phenomenon that occurred, did more than tear apart the city. The immense amount of power released created a tear in the fabric of spacetime, connecting our world with one below our own, the "Underworld", where ancient evils slumbered, feasting upon lost souls and spirits. The King of this Underworld saw the nascent portal as a means to escape from his world to conquer and feast upon another one filled with fresh prey. To do this, he awakened the Earthbound Immortals, mighty deities of a series of long-lost tribes who opposed a mighty South American civilization protected by a draconic god of their own, the "Crimson Dragon". They latched onto certain individuals who longed for vengeance while rejecting death, creating the first Dark Signers in millennia.
To prevent the Dark Signers from accomplishing the King's goals, Yliaster, a secret society established 3,000 years ago to work with the emissaries of the Crimson Dragon, sought out the Signers, the bearers of the Crimson Dragon's power and the holders of the Crimson Dragon's servants. Despite numerous setbacks, and a betrayal from within, the Signers, Yusei Fudo, Jack Atlas, Aki Izayoi, Crow Hogan, and the twins Rua and Ruka, defeated the Dark Signers, triumphed over the King of the Netherworld, and banished him back to where he came. Yusei went on to perfect the Momentum system his parents had created, while Jack kept close ties to Yliaster, and Aki researched into the psychic powers she possessed. Crow became a prominent figure in rebuilding Satellite into Central Domino, or Old Domino, as sometimes called, while Leo and Luna drifted away from the others.

The year is 2084, and Neo Domino has changed immensely. Fifty million people are packed into an area the size of Rhode Island, the massive city-state split into five distinct regions: the Scrapes, the Stacks, the Sprawl, the Stretch, and the Center. Most prominent are the Scrapes, clusters of kilometers-high towers that could be considered communities, or even small cities, in their own rights. These serve as the high-end residential and commercial districts, as well as major offices of thousands of prominent corporations.
Next are the Stacks, another version of utilizing the verticality of Neo Domino's limited land. These arcology projects were experiments in providing housing for the growing city, especially after Tokyo was lost in the Resource Wars. Layers upon layers of cityscape were placed on top of each other, with the tallest Stack over a kilometer high with seven thick layers of development. People can spend their entire lives in this urban sandwiches, and never fully experience the benefits of an open sky.
Connecting the city in an elaborate network of rails, pipelines, highways, and Duel Runner tracks is the labyrinthine Stretch, though the name is normally associated with the channel between Neo Domino and Center, what used to be Satellite and is sometimes called Old Domino. Navigating the Stretch can be a nightmare, as even the most "recent" maps are probably outdated, and only the most affluent citizens can afford their own private VTOLs.
Below the Scrapes, the Stacks, and the Stretch is the Sprawl, the ground level of the city, as well as the multiple below-ground levels. Just as Neo Domino's city planners went up, they also went down, establishing most of the industrial and agricultural base down here, where only the lower-income citizens live. Sector Security rarely bothers with the Sprawl, letting the gangs run rampant, waging their wars over what little land they have for their empires.
Finally, the Center sits secluded from the rest of the city, protected from the effects of Three-Dimensional Zoning and Social Stratification by being a more exclusive section of the city. Here, the administrative duties are taken care of amidst important towers and beautiful parks, and Sector Security maintains a portion of the island as their own private base. If one were to look around, they might find something that is left of the old Satellite, probably preserved as a memorial to those darker days. But on Old Domino Island, along with Center, is Restricted Zone Alpha, formerly known as the B.A.D. Area, a part of the island where nothing grows, and any attempts to develop it are met with disaster. Some of the older citizens consider that region cursed, and for good reasons.

Over fifty years have passed since the first attack of the Dark Signers, and the King of the Underworld has been waiting. Despite their immense success, the original Signers failed in one goal: deactivating the portal to the Underworld and closing it for good. Even Yusei was never able to quite get the system preventing the critical mass buildup to work again. And the portal has been regaining its strength for yet another invasion from beyond. More Earthbound Immortals join the fray, selecting new Dark Signers to be their agents, these Dark Signers strengthened by mysterious cards from yet another world beyond our own. However, Yliaster has assumed a secret control of the world they are attempting to take. Momentum powers this pinnacle of human achievement, and Yliaster controls Momentum, so much that they can shut off power to entire nations who defy them. And Yliaster has not just been idle in terms of recruitment. They have their own Signers waiting in the wings, ready to ensure that their perfect world remains a perfect world.

Now, the clash between order and chaos begins once more. The Signers, under Yliaster's careful guidance, will assemble to protect the status quo and make sure that humanity has a future, one with Yliaster at the helm. The Dark Signers, on the other hand, have been forsaken by this brave new world, and seek to unleash hell on earth through their own powers. The fate of the future depends on the coming battles.
0. All Advanced Clause and Forum rules apply.
1. Merciful Idiot and Phantom Roxas are the co-hosts. They are allowed to accept applications and carry out judgments.
2. We will be using TCG terminology and names (Earthbound Immortals, Red Dragon Archfiend, Tribute Summon), but Japanese terms and names in reference to the anime (Momentum, Aki Izayoi, Neo Domino City).
3. Because this is a 5D's-themed roleplay, there are some ground rules for card usage.
- a. No Pendulums allowed. No HEROs allowed. No Numbers, Rank-Up-Magics, or Rank-Up Xyzs allowed. No Dark Synchros. No cards you know to be one-of-a-kind that you normally wouldn't possess (i.e., Malefics, Blue-Eyes White Dragons, any sort of God-like cards).
- b. For non-Dark Signers, no Xyz Monsters allowed.
- c. For Dark Signers, you are the only ones allowed to use Xyzs.
- d. For Signers, you can choose any Level 7-8 Synchro Monster with "Dragon" in the name as your Signer Dragon, except for the following: Stardust Dragon, Red Dragon Archfiend, Black Rose Dragon, Ancient Fairy Dragon, Power Tool Dragon, Black-Winged Dragon, Life Stream Dragon. Anyone wishing the Duel Dragons from the manga, please PM me.
- e. Similarly, for Dark Signers, any of the previous Earthbound Immortals are not allowed.
- f. Customs are allowed, once approved by a host, and are highly suggested for use. They do not to have actual images, but can be written.
- g. Pretty much any archetype is fair game, as long as you can make it work. That being said, don't just copy the ace cards of Xyz archetypes into Synchros. Originality and creativity are rewarded.
4. Dark Signers can apply for the Earthbound Immortal and sigil of their choice, while approved Signers will have their marks distributed. The roleplay will begin once we have a sufficient number of each.
5. In order to prevent egos from clashing too much, please discuss the outcome of a duel with your dueling partner via PM or IM and work out what cards you wish to play against each other. It makes duels flow much better and prevents asspulls.
6. Applications can and will be rejected for incorrect spelling, grammar, and punctuation, as well as simply not making any sense. PLEASE make sure your applications look good, and work with the tone of the roleplay. Also, no characters from previous roleplays are allowed.
7. Again, creativity and originality in character and card creation are not necessarily required, but are encouraged.
8. Finally, while you can have CARD GAMES ON MOTORCYCLES, Speed Duels are not going to happen.
9. Oh, and take out the stuff in parantheses in the apps.
10. P.S., have fun! :D
i. If you have read these rules, place a quote from your character above your app in the color of your choosing.

[spoiler: Clarice Shallowvow]

Username:BailasGale
Name: Clarice Shallowvow
Gender: Female
Age: 28
Affiliation: Other

Power: N/A

[spoiler:Apperance]

Appearance: In addition to her classic Afrocentric appearance Clarice wears a stunning fashionable black and gold bracelet that in actuality is her d-pad/duel disk. She's actually pretty talk coming in at an even 6ft (180cm) without her 3in boots on. Some tell her that she has a disturbing resemblance to one of her crusade like ancestors even down to the retro style afro in this day and age. Unlike her medival ancestor Clarice has access to a lot more cosmetics at her disposal. Since she is insistant on not using make-up to cover her natural beauty she tends to spend a lot of money on manecures and pedicures making sure that her nails dazzle while she is dueling. Like most women Clarice comes with all of the accessories of being a female. A desinger hand bag that is filled with miscellaneous electronics, compact weapons, and things of that nature.
[spoiler: Personality:] Clarice is a strong, proud, black woman who believes that through the power of women all things are possible. She also is of the belief that if violence isn’t solving all of your problems then you simply aren’t using enough. Her appetite for destruction and malice is only curtailed by her family members and the fact that imminent violence in the public square is not percieved as lady like. That being said Clarice is very crucial about women. It is one thing for a woman to be victimized by the man-o-centric maletocracy that is the established power structure, but it is another if that woman is weak. While she may easily thrash a man, if she thinks that a particular female is acting as the Judas for all women kind then that person will incur the wrath of the Gods!
[spoiler: Biography:] Clarice actually comes from a rather ordinary background. Her mother Adrianna gave birth to her and her younger brother Adrian like any normal parent would do. On an interseting note she does have two disturbingly old "grandparents" that don't look anything close to there actual ages. Nevertheless Clarice and her brother were raised to be perfect "well-rounded" children. Meaning they took all of the same extracurricular activities. This lead to her love of martial arts and sword play and her brothers incidental fondness for dance. Clarice loved the fact that she would get the opportunity to beat up boys in public. She would maintain this persona all throughout university. It would be after graduation that her and her brother split paths. While her brother went on to become a professional duelist she decided to try her hand at being a research at one of the Kaiba Corp R&D facilities. Really she figured if she worked for one of the companies that sponsered the WC's and had a pro-level brother she would be able to get free tickets to exclusive events.

It was during her work at Kaiba corp that she learned of the incidents involving Signers and Dark Signers. While it was a truly hush hush topic no one can stop the most powerful entity in existance...the rumor mill. The whole concept was pretty interesting as a whole. The fate of the world being determined by a card game. But what really grinded her gears was this whole Carly Carmine character! How dare a woman sink so low into the darkness for a man. The thought literally sickened her. It didn't take long for her to realize that if the rumors and fables were actually true there is one peace of information missing. "Who closed the gate to the Underworld? Clarice figured that if this whole story wasn't some dreaded card game fanfiction then there was a serious sign of dark times returning. That means there would have to be Signers. Upon this realization she looked at her own body in hope that she could possibly find some Signer Mark. Alas there wasn't one. But why let something like that get in the way of progress. She was still determined to help, maybe these new Signers would have some meeting place and with the help of her brother she can play a pivotal part in this battle.
Deck: Amazonesses: Naturally Clarice plays a deck that is centered around strong black women and beat down tactics.

Key Card(s): Amazoness Queen, Amazoness Paladin, Amazoness Village (plenty of customs) will be coming soon.

[spoiler: Adrian Shallowvow ]

Username: BailasGale

Name: Adrian Shallowvow

Gender: Male

Age: 28

Affiliation: Yliaster

Power: Brand

[spoiler: Appearance]

Appearance: Without the overtly stylized winds and with the addition of clothes Adrian takes on a lot of his ancestor's more gothic traits. Hence the discoloration of his hair and eyes. Most of the time one will see him wearing something with his teams logo on it. Typically it may be a jacket of sorts or some jeans with the team's logo sewn in on them. This is mainly because of his contract with the team. Brand management and all. Other than that Adrian actually comes in at 6'2 so he is pretty tall. His duel disk is pitchblack and is designed to look like a black bats wings. To go with the theme of his deck and the theme of the team.
[spoiler: Personality:]

Much like his quietly psychoatic sister Adrian also has an unhealthy bloodlust. In fact combat is one of the things that motivates him the most. The thrill of the hunt and the joys of combat give him strength. However, since legally hunting people isn't allowed he simply lets out his murderous frustration through card games on motorcylces. Other than that he can be quite the "cool" customer when talking to non family members. He tries to have a focused and peaceful/meditative approach towards the non-violent aspects of life but that doesn't really help him in the long run. Usually someone does something that simply makes him snap on the inside. Finally, Adrian has a very incidental pet peeve when it comes to people who are passive aggressive. The inability to blatantly say what you feel is quite disconcerting. However his anger towards these people takes the form of depraved indifference to the point where he doesn't even know they exist.
[spoiler: Biography]

Adrian actually comes from a rather ordinary background. His mother Adrianna gave birth to him and his older sister Clarice like any normal parent would do. On an interseting note he does have two disturbingly old "grandparents" that don't look anything close to there actual ages. Nevertheless Adrian and his sister were raised to be perfect "well-rounded" children. Meaning they took all of the same extracurricular activities. This lead to her love of martial arts and sword play and his incidental fondness for dance. Adrian loved the grace and flexibilyt that came with dancing. It seemed like something that true fighters would benefit fro It would be after graduation from university that he and his sister split paths. While she went on to work at a Kaiba Corp facility to perpetually mooch off of his success he decided to go out for the pro dueling leagues.

Adrian is a member of team Nightshade which is just a rebranding of the dreaded team that cheated against Team 5D's by summoning a monster that derailed other cyclist/duelist. With a whole new group of people the corporate sponsors decided to keep the whole biker image but made the duelist more personable. Adrian usually goes second seeing as he is the newest recruit to the team, but it doesn't mean he's that weak by any stretch. One day while training on by his lonesome he decided to do some deep meditation. It was then that he was approached by one of the teams sponsor. Actually it wasn't the sponsor but more like some corporate representative of the sponsor. He could only let out a sigh when he was informed that he was tapped to be part of a special team of "Signers" in which he would defend the world. Or something of that nature. It was then that he received a card that fits really well in his deck. Of course he didn't actually understand what he was supposed to do with his card or mark, but he got the jist. In comes his sister looking for help finding these people known as "Signers" and this heavily exaggerated story about Dragons versus the Nazca Lines. Deciding to keep his mark a secret from his sister he joined her in her quest to find others hoping to discover his own purpose.
Deck: Vampires: A series of level 5 Goth Vampires that can summon each other, with a hint of deck destruction.

Key Cards: Vampire Lord, Vampire Duke, Shadow Vampire (customs in bound)

Time to use a character I have clearly not used before.
"I am a man of science yes; but first and foremost I am a scientist of the people. I work with the Arcadia Movement not out of fear of the Psychics Duelist, nor am I envious of them, or that I desire some kind of monetary reward. I work to help the gain a place in a world that would rather see each and every single one of them dead."

Username: Broke. N

Name: Kirkmond Troy

Gender: M

Age: 40

Affiliation: Arcadia Movement

Appearance: Kirkmond is 5”9 with a trim build, though he is slightly chubby at the belt line. His hair is kept short but slightly wavy, and is toned light brown with slight grey patches around the baselines of his face. His kind hazel eyes are hidden behind a pair of reflective rectangular glasses. He has no other defining features aside from a little bit of stubble on his chin and a small cross-shaped earring on his left ear.

He constantly wears his lab coat, which is always buttoned up by the top two buttons, but the remainder of it is left open and swishing. Underneath his coat he wears a simple brown vest, buttoned up and with handkerchief folded in the top left pocket. His white button up shirt is always done up and tucked into his black pants, though the ends of his sleeves are always pinned together with cuff links. He wears a belt made from a King Brown snakeskin. He wears a pre-made bowtie that hangs somewhat slackly around his neck.

His black pants are ironed every morning, and always have a perfect crease along the sides. Like his pants, his black shoes are also always polished every morning, and can always capture the light. They’re so shiny you can see your face in them.

Personality: Kirkmond is like many scientists: A man with an insatiable sense of curiosity that fuels his constant desire to uncover the secrets of the universe so that he may share this knowledge with everyone. Despite the feelings of grit that plague the souls of people even in the future, Kirkmond maintains an optimistic view of selfless actions, which is why he gives his all for the Arcadia Movement. Maybe it was because the Movement helped pull him from the gutters, or because of his general empathy for the way the Psychic Duelists are treated, but Kirkmond has never felt more at home with the Arcadia Movement than he had amongst his own peers.

Because of his compassionate nature, Kirkmond can be a little naive, and a lot too trusting at times; but despite this, he reminds himself of the selfless acts people can perform, and this keeps him going. Trying to deceive him at face value is impossible, as he has been around facial expressions enough times to notice even the most minute ticks that people have. And when he does figure it out, he is very unforgiving to foul play. In his off time, he has a habit of enjoying video games.

Biography: Kirkmond studied Pharmacy at a premier university in England, and he gained his Masters Degree and PhD in Drug Design when he was twenty-eight. Shortly after leaving the school, he was offered positions from a few companies for him to join their staff. The one he did end up joining were performing research on animal venoms and their applications in human health. In his early days at the company, Kirkmond's major role was milking the many venomous snake breeds kept by the company, and was also in charge of milking their venom for research. After two years of being their busboy one of the research members left for a different company, and his position was automatically relegated to Kirkmond. Joining the team, Kirkmond would spend even his free time performing assay tests on the multitude of compounds for results. He went without success for five years, before the company went under due to a scandal involving the CEO's hand in certain illegal trades that had the company fined for treason.

Kirkmond, was spared from the charges, as were much of the staff who had no idea about the deals. Out of a job, Kirkmond knew that he wouldn't do well in this environment. Hunting around online, Kirkmond received an invitation from a pharmaceutical company in Neo Domino offering him a position due to his experience around venoms. Not even questioning how the company even knew about losing his job, Kirkmond sold off most of his possessions and took a one-way trip to Neo Domino City. The Company that contacted him was kept in a well-hidden portion of the city. Unsettled by this, Kirkmond realized very quickly that this was no ordinary pharmaceutical company. But, with no place else to go, Kirkmond stayed with them. He stood by them for seven years as a matter of fact, and enjoyed some rather curious benefits as he worked on devising concentrated poisons used for out-of-country assassinations. During his time there, Kirkmond came across a compound in snake venom that had not been noted in any medical journals. Noticing its curious shape, he realized that the ligands found on the compound would have some effect on the receptors found in the brain.

Without alerting the company, he engaged in some private testing to explore this compound. It presented incredible lipophilic properties, allowing it to cross the Blood-Brain Barrier with ease. Those he tested this compound expressed heightened intellectual and problem-solving abilities; but as a side-effect they exhibited toxic effects, but none too deadly. Curious, he tested it on subjects with mental-disabilities, and within minutes they were thinking and acting like a regular person. Pondering about his find, he contemplated on alerting the company to his great find; but, in a twist of fate, at that very moment he considered: A broadcast involving protests by Psychic Duelists appeared on his TV set. Their plight felt so sincere, his heart was immediately turned to their side. Without a word he disappeared from the company with his snakes.

Appearing before the leader of the Arcadia Movement, he presented his find (which he had nicknamed Venom). He explained the effects of the compound, and how it could aid both the movement and, in time the world itself. He offered his services to the leader, including his minor medical skills he learned alongside his degree. Intrigued with the compound, the leader allowed Kirkmond to join the Movement in order to research Venom, and to perform minor operations on their staff.

Deck: Venoms - A deck revolving around crippling its opponent by laying down a heavy stream of Venom Counters to prevent them from keeping monsters on the field.

Key Card(s): Annaconda, Scaled King of the Venomous Swamps, Taipann, Scaled King of Venomous Snakes, Toxico Eugaia, Toxico Progaia
