[MARVEL] Original Sin

So, I'm a fan of both Marvel and DC comics, and just feel like there isn't an obvious group of people here who do like Marvel Comics. And so, this is the first of hopefully a bunch of posts/discussions about any Marvel books people liked/hated and for what reason- even any predictions on future events like AXIS would be cool. Anyway, starting with:

which I thought was a really cool event, and the best since AvX (Age of Ultron and Infinity were both a bit 'meh' to me); I really liked the 'whodunit' theme, Nick Fury twist(s), and the rubbish villains doing stuff like the Orb!

Any opinions on Original Sin/ any Marvel comic would be great (free reps...)

Me, me, I'm a Marvel guy.

Mostly Spider-Man, but I've started branching out within the past couple years. Captain America and Daredevil are some favorites of mine too.

Original Sin was pretty alright. I can dig what they were doing overall for Nick Fury since he's had a bit of a murky presence in the past few years. As in, actually doing something with him that results in something pretty significant.

And they had some interesting groupings too, people you wouldn't see together otherwise like the Punisher and Doctor Strange.

I do find the whole actual story pretty bizarre though. It's really...I don't want to say comic booky like it's a bad thing, but yeah.

And obviously, it's provided a gateway for some major changes in the universe.

Thor becoming unworthy.

Winter Soldier being Earth's new lethal protector.

Spider-Man meeting Silk.

And all the crap that's going on with the Avengers, I don't know where to start.

It's interesting, but overall weird/confusing keeping track of everything happening at once. It could play out as something really awesome and memorable in the long run, though right now I'm just trying to wrap my head around the state of things.

But yeah, Original Sin was pretty alright.

Oh my god, another Marvel fan, at long last! And judging by your avatar and name, you're a Superior fan as well, which was/is probably one of my favourite books! I read Amazing beforehand and was pretty shocked after #700, but within 4 issues or so I was hooked on the new series, and now Amazing's back, as good as it is, I can't help but think Superior was more interesting...

However, with the whole Spider-Verse event coming up, do you think there's a chance of a Superior mini-series coming of from it? Your opinions on Silk/Black Cat's new bitchy character? Ahh, just so much to discuss!

I find myself still trying to get into picking up Marvel regularly, since I only have the first four USM Ultimate Collections, a few Carnage minis (Venom vs. Carnage, Carnage: Family Feud, and Carnage U.S.A.), and the first ASM omnibus.

So yeah, I'd like to stick to Spider-Man, but… well, I think over the past couple years or so, I feel like I've made an enemy of Dan Slott. I follow reviews on the Spider-Man Crawlspace to keep up with what's going on, but the feeling I get is that Slott is more of a Doctor Octopus writer than a Spider-Man writer, and if you think Superior was interesting, I feel that's just because Slott is terrible at writing Peter, but with Otto, he's in a comfort zone. While they had two new issues to serve as part of Edge of Spider-Verse, I'm not sure what the plans are after Spider-Verse. Either SpOck is able to splinter his personal timeline and can exist on his own without having to go back in time so the events of Goblin Nation can occur, or he has to back back precisely for the same reason. Personally, a theory I like is that, after Goblin Nation, some remnant of Otto is currently within The Living Brain. Given how I feel Slott has a preference towards Otto, and indeed, Otto has been the central antagonist of Slott's run ever since ASM #600, I doubt that Slott would have his run keep going without there being plans to bring Otto back, and I don't think it will be Spider-Verse.

I think Silk's creation and Black Cat's further descent into villainy are related, mostly in that Slott doesn't seem to be interested in "popular" love interests, most notably Mary Jane, so I think Black Cat is a villain so Slott has a reason not to use another love interest, while Silk, much like Carlie Cooper, primarily serves so that Slott can have the character he created be the primary love interest for Peter.

I've been meaning to check out Magneto, Ms. Marvel, and Loki: Agent of Asgard. Ms. Marvel just sounds like loads of fun, and over the past few months, I feel like Magneto has slowly risen in regards to X-Men characters I'm really interested in reading about, while Loki… well, after Avengers and the Thor movies, can you blame people for being interested in Loki?

I'm curious if Death of Wolverine will stick. I know Marvel says they plan on having it be permanent, but this is comics, so who knows. At the very least, once that and AXIS are settled, I can see them having an "X-Men NOW!", much like how they're currently heading towards Avengers NOW! On that same note, I'd expect a Spider-Man NOW!, either late next year, or at some point in 2016.

As for Original Sin, I like the idea of it. It seems like it offers the opportunity events should do, which is to provide a simple enough template, and writers can take advantage of it to further their own story. It's more like writers have been given more potential for their stories, rather than the story being subservient to the events of Original Sin.

As for AXIS, the biggest curiosity to me is Carnage becoming a hero, mostly because of how, as I said, I've been getting the Carnage minis. He's my favorite Spider-Man villain, so I'm curious about this idea that he'll become a hero. Something else that comes to mind is that the solicits have all but confirmed that Scarlet Witch will become the Sorceress Supreme, and Sabretooth will become Wolverine. Those kind of change in roles seem especially interesting.
