VIP Member / Seventh Star

Smear

Recommended Posts

An idea pitched by Dae (http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/323870-reduce-senior-member-threshold-to-4000-or-lower/?p=6496870) for members to become VIP Members once hitting 10000 posts. Also possibly a seventh star (pitched by Sakura), and even maybe some small special privileges? (pitched by me :))

I just thought it would be cool for members who gave spent this much time on ycm to get a little from it.

I technically suggested the seventh star as something that could be done for VIP members; Rod and the rest of you did the rest.

While this may lead to some elitist stuff, considering the rate of posting nowadays, doesn't seem as bad.

C/O is disabled, so now you have to work for that 10,000 posts. (There are other options though)

I like the idea, but can't say the same for the other staff members (tbh, only mods over the 10k post mark right now are [in order] Roxas, LZ, self, evilfusion, Flame Dragon and Zextra).

As for possible benefits, we'll see what can be done in mod forum [if this gets approved]

I think it's a horrid idea with YCM as it is. Promoting elitism is pretty awful when the site doesn't garner enough activity to make this a feasible amount of posts in any reasonable time, since most of us got our post counts back when Clubs and Orgs. had post count enabled.

Honestly, turning post count back on in Clubs and Orgs would be fine, would make this suggestion much more feasible. In all reality, even with post count on in Clubs it would still take a substantial amount of time to reach the 10K mark. The only argument against it is that "clubs is mostly spam" in which case we should turn off post count in Custom Cards, because a large majority of what goes through there is spam too.

tl;dr: not with YCM's current state. If clubs had post count still or the site was a bit more active, I would honestly support it, but as is, it just seems like a way to promote old members who had advantages new ones can't use.

I support. Its not a change that particularly hurts anyone, and yes it will have people unfairly behind because of the now lower activity and the now disabled post count sections around the forums, but not reaching that level is nothing people can't walk around the forum without.

One thing though, I'm probably against the "and benefits" part you might have in mind. If you get something others can't have until such an insane high level of post count is reached, its probably a bad idea. I personally didn't agree with the 5000 post requirement to have profile headers. That was a cool feature most members would need years to be able to use.

If the increase of star goals by post count is increased, and nothing else, I'm all for it.

10k = 7 stars.

and considering the amount of members that are way past that already, even an 8th star wouldn't hurt anyone as long as it is nothing much than that.

I'll say this isn't a bad idea. Haven't really seen much talk of 7 Star rankings of some members in a very long while.

In a way, whatever these special privileges happen to be, perhaps we could be able to help out the Mods with said privileges. Honestly, I don't know fully how it would work out, but this gets my support.

Besides...kinda tired of being a 6 Star for this long anyway xD

If the rest of the staff agrees to add a 7th star ranking, what kinds of privileges do you think should be given, aside from whatever you have so far as Senior Members?

(And yeah, I was a 6-star ever since November 2009 [before getting promoted, but still going to consider self as a 6-star [or legendary member]; sheesh, I'm old...)

I disagree with benefits for the reasons Hina and Colress stated, and that there really isn't many benefits that we could give. If we created a new more privileged member group, we would have nothing for Event Prizes. The seventh star is fine, it really doesn't do anything.

As others have said, I suppose benefits might be bad, but it depends on the benefits.

I don't even know what benefits are already in play so personally I don't care at all. And if anyone tries to act "elite" towards me because of them, haha, hahaha....yeah no that's not going to be a problem.

Of course I guess some might be bothered so I'll support but not the benefits unless we can find out a good way to do it.

The 7 stars is fine; as for extra privileges, a bit iffy on it right now.

Right now, Senior Members can have profile header + name changes every 45 days. Regular members have 90 days to wait and no profile header.

I guess you can make the name changes every 30 days for 7 stars; but then that'll lead to mass name changes.

Nothing really much though [I think Seniors could give up to 8-10 reps or something; don't know since I probably never reached that limit]

7th star is fine, benefits is not, its just a way to give yourselves more power, leave it to the mods.
I support seventh star.

I agree with most of what these people (who both have exp and time here on this site) have said, high rank people getting special abilities and or privileges while no one is unable to obtain the 10,000 post requirement, this is basically locking people out and further dividing the site while there could be abuse of these "special ability and or privileges". It's hard enough to get 5000 post while the site is under it's current situation. Please remove the " small special privileges" which no one still completely explained yet. I do not support this if, the idea remains in current state.

By the privelages, it's nothing major, just like decreased time to wait for name changes and whatever else can be thought of.
And this part of the suggestion is most likely not going to happen anyway lolza

If this goes through, it'll probably be the decreased name change time; that's about the only difference that separates the new VIP members from the current Senior/Legendary Member group.

As for the eight star (like Sleepy mentioned earlier), what do you all feel would be an appropriate limit to set that one at?

Just wanted to point out I'm not Hina, though I can see where the confusion originated.

I just went to the overall top posters of the forums.

7 members have 20,000 + post count

29 other members have 15,000+ post count (36 total with the above level counted)

yet 56 other members have 10,000+ post count (92 total with the above levels counted)

Needless to say, not all members in each of these are active anymore.

I was thinking 20,000 would be a good mark, but it doesn't look like the great majority will reach that level.... ever. Most of them are either incredibly long time mods or members that were active at Clubs & Organizations when it had post count.

I'd say 15,000 is long enough, though that would leave a few dozen members past that already. Still it kind of sounds appropriate, IMO.

What did I say?

It seems I got ninja'd xD
