Welcome to the 3rd YCM Pokémon Tournament.

For the first two, see here and here.

I think most of you know what Pokémon is, and have either watched/read a few episodes/chapters of series, played the games (either the console games or CCG), drawn some fanart or custom ideas, or maybe a combination of any of these.

You have a favorite Pokémon? Then, let's see if many others share your opinion as you try to get yours to the top.

NOMINATION STATUS: CLOSED
1. You're allowed to nominate up to 10 Pokémon.

This is so you can nominate as many of your favorites as possible, as no one likes leaving some of them out. Also helps with reaching the 128 Poke goal (yeah, we're going for the 128 again; more variety and as stated, you guys can vote for more stuff).

2. All Pokémon are allowed for submission (legendaries, starters, Eeveelutions, event stuff, whatever).

In essence, you can nominate from Bulbasaur up until Diancie. (If Volcanion/Hoopa get their data officially released, they will be allowed in)

- Pokemon in an evolutionary chain are considered as separate species. For instance, if someone already picked Pikachu, you are free to nominate Pichu and Raichu as well.

- Specific instances of a Pokémon will be treated as the normal species. (Ex: Korrina's Lucario counts as the regular one, as will Riley's/Maylene's)

3. You can nominate a Pokémon that someone else already submitted; it'll increase the chances of it being in tournament (see below).

To make it easier, Pokémon with 2+ nominations will have their names bolded.

4. Pokémon only require 1 vote to get into the tournament. However, there will be a cap of 128 Pokémon, so the more votes a Pokémon gets, the better chances of it staying in; should we go over the limit.

Priority will be given to submissions with 2+ votes; though if there are still plenty of submissions with only one vote, we'll just allow everything in.

Submissions stop once the cap is reached (in essence, if we hit 128+, no more Pokes can be submitted)

128 entrants factors nicely into a 7-round tournament; no need to use algebra to figure out how many triple battles (or 5P rounds in R2) if things happen. But there will be some ties at some point or another, so such calculations will be necessary.

5. You can change your nomination, but only once. If you change your vote, you must announce the changes in another post.

It's advised that you think your nominations over though before submission.

6. No flaming/trolling other members for choosing a particular Pokémon.

Some of the submissions may be controversial, but just respect other members and their votes.

7. No using alternate accounts to vote for Pokes. This was an issue in Round 2 of the last tournament; when many new members voted for the same nomination. IP checks will be done if there are a suspicious amount of new members voting for a particular Poke.

(Keep in mind that I reserve the authority to discount any votes if this situation arises. Seriously though, just play fair. I know you all want your nominations to win, but you can't always get what you want.)

8. Have fun.

In the preliminaries and secondary round, there will be 32 matches with 4 Pokémon each; however in this case, the two most voted Pokes will advance.

Ideally, doing 64 matches in 1v1 format would be better as to keep consistency, but that would cause this section to get flooded with this tournament's threads, and would take longer to complete. (I also rather not have multiple Polls on a thread, especially because YCM will force you to answer them all)

All matches in round 3 and beyond will be straight 1v1s; this should be a bit easier to handle and understand. In essence, the match tiering will go like this. The ideal number of winners for each round are listed in brackets.

 • Preliminaries: 128 participants -> 32 matches [64]
 • Round 2: 64 participants -> 32 matches [32]
 • Round 3: 32 participants -> 16 matches [16]
 • Round 4: 16 participants -> 8 matches [8]
 • Quarterfinals: 8 participants -> 4 matches [4]
 • Semifinals: 4 participants -> 2 matches [2]
 • Finals: 2 participants -> 1 match [1]

Matches will be open for about 3-4 days before being locked; however consecutive matches will be posted before others end to keep things running. There will be a poll that you can cast your votes in; final scores will be determined from the poll results, as it is tedious to manually count the posted votes; however you are encouraged to verbally write your vote in a reply as well; if you choose.

(Not going to write another proof for determining un-ideal matchups; you can just read the one from YCM GPT 2)

@Yin and Cow: Yeah, considering GPT 2 ended a little less than a week ago, starting a third one is rushing it. (Polls being dead most of the time doesn't really lend itself as a reason)

Probably should've wait until Thanksgiving, but more or less should last until the end of the year + into 2015; depending on how stuff goes.

@Voltex: Yeah, you can nominate stuff from last tournament. Hopefully some of them make it farther (but depends on everyone else who votes)

With that said, all nominations added to main post.

I think I noted all of the 2+ nominated ones, but feel free to point out any I missed.

(Considering that I allowed you to nominate a top 10 list, I might extend the max. amount of participants if enough interest is shown [considering we do have 84 entrants at the moment])

As I mentioned in rule 7, if we get more suspicious votes, I will run the IP check tool in ACP to check if they are really legitimate; probably they won't.

Hopefully that curbs this kind of stuff.

Otherwise, we still have the W-matches (the hypothetical "what if (X) happened instead of (Y)").

Also a reminder to make sure all of the matches have public voting enabled.

Up to 94 entrants now.

If I do decide to increase the max capacity, probably will be 160 (32 battles with 5 Pokes; top 2 advance); even though 5P matches are somewhat ugly (and one of the reasons I changed Round 2 to be straight 1v1s due to ties). Then again, I could just run 64 1v1 battles, and relegate 16 of them to be 3Ps.

(Then again, it would result in flooding this section with the matches, but technically speaking, Polls is essentially dead so tournaments are more or less keeping the section alive for a while. As noted, I prefer not to make multiple matches in a single thread; given the system forces you to vote in all of them if you wish to cast your opinion.)

As noted though, if there aren't a lot of 2-nomination Pokes left, we can do a pre-elimination round to see who stays.

Given there's 128 slots open, there's probably going to be more than 40 or something. This was the case last time; of course, RNG had to provide filler nominations since the rest of us didn't completely fill it up; we did hit 118-120 or something, which is still a lot.

My nominations for the Grand Pokemon Contest, in no particular order, are:

 • Dragonite (Is not in the main-post, eventhough Giga already listed it);
 • Pikachu (How can a Pokemon-related tournament do without Pokemon's mascot);
 • Togekiss;
 • Lanturn ;
 • Mudkip;
 • Skarmory;
 • Tyranitar;
 • Gallade;
 • Lucario;
 • Volcarona;

Just noticed, but Hydreigon was nominated twice.  By myself and then by Giga.

Thought I added Dragonite; probably deleted it somewhere.

But Hydreigon's double list was dealt with; we have 90+, so it's quite likely I miss the dupes.

Adding them now.

Currently at 100 entrants; which is nice.

Already? Interesting. Here are my nominations - I would have included many already listed above, but I didn't want to add any dupes. Looking at these nominations, I doubt many of them are fan favorites, but whatever :p

1. Starmie

2. Lapras

3. Nidoqueen

4. Sharpedo

5. Gorebyss

6. Milotic

7. Luxray

8. Vespiquen

9. Electivire

10. Bisharp

Yeah, 100 is quite a bit.

Yours pushes it to 110; which leaves 18 left.

(Out of that list, there are probably some that are popular; well in a competitive sense anyway)

Like I did last tournament, I can just use RNG to generate random Pokes if the need arises.

(Though one more member nomination list would be nice)

I assume you would've added that as a reserve if I didn't right?

Probably yeah, instead of Ninetales.

You don't need to, it's already in.

Taur*shot*

My other two will be

Braviary

Tauros

...

You didn't think I would, but I did.

Wait it is? I didn't notice, oh...well then, stupid sick brain. Yay Tauros I like you even more now!

Anyway, I will edit my nomination post with the new nominations after I look over who is in already, thanks China.
