Use the News section instead of announcements.

I literally don't even look at the announcement thing because it's just random three year old crap most of the time.  Apparently Nai posted an announcement (which is titled the same as some other announcement IIRC).  Please just use News.  Please.

To clarify, announcements should just hotlink to news threads and then can be removed after like a week or two.

It's titled similarly as a sticki'd thread in General that's horribly outdated and that no one really reads.

The purpose for it to be an announcement is so that wherever you are in the forums, you can see it. Putting it on news would defeat its purpose as a haunting reminder.

Also, announcements are constantly updated/replaced, and there's the section specific announcements that would just be unnecessary to be posted in News.

I mean like, that's just not true.  I've had to bitch and moan to get them under control.  We've had rules, staff changes, and status feed rules there for years. Those three could all easily be under News.

Staff changes there is beyond silly for example because nobody checks an announcement twice; why would you? Yet we update the same announcement with new stuff.  If there is a less efficient way of disseminating information, I'd love to hear it.

Same for when you want to change rules about anything.  I'll never look.

I return to my original idea of News threads that are linked to via announcements that only last a month TOP.

Putting any sort of rules as something you need to dig for won't be effective at all. If you don't read them now, you'll even less likely to read it when it's placed not directly in front of you.

Things like staff changes and resignation announcement (like Phos's for example) would be better in news, yeah. But rules will even be less effective there.

Also, YCM Rules one is a new one, just saying. It's placed there by Aix after a suggestion to update the site rule. And even if it's old, for new members it's still something to read at least once.
