Problem With Gifs and Custom Usergroups

I've had this problem before, and it came up again a few moments ago when I was trying to change my avatar.

 

.gif files do not work with custom usergroups.  The first frame of the file will come up, but the image itself will be static and remain only on that frame.  So far, I've noticed this problem to be spread across two usergroups - Night's Watch, and VIP members.  It probably doesn't work for the Monsters usergroup as well.

 

Known temporary fixes for this:

 

1. Get a moderator to set your account back to its normal member group, change your avatar, then change your usergroup back to normal.  This could cause problems with the VIP usergroup, unless the VIP item is automatically added to the account after the change.

That's the method I used with Mugendramon back when my usergroup was set as Night's Watch back in October.  I'm not sure if that was a onetime fix, but it seems to be the proper way to go about dealing with this.

The new user groups probably have the same settings as members from after the forum switch. Going from MyBB to IPB meant that we couldn't use GIF avi's for some reason and it was fixed like two years ago. I'm guessing a mod just needs to go into the user group settings and change it.

I'm checking the image problem on my monster account to see if I have that problem; appears that I don't.

(For clarity, it's still in the Monster usergroup; though its main one isn't, but I don't think anything has changed because of it)

 

Though we can look into the issue and see what's going on (regular mods have access to any of the user groups that aren't linked to staff powers; can check the settings on those).
