Refer to this thread for any specific information regarding the policies of the CC Monthly.

Theme

First task of the CC Monthly will be very simple: Design a Synchro Monster.

Aside from the above, the rest of the card's design is left up to you.
Make sure that you use realistic Types/Attributes, stats and above all, good card design while creating your card.

When submitting your entry, give a short description of what your intent was during the design process.
It'll help the judges to better understand your card + grade accordingly.

If you need help determining what time it'll be in your area when deadline hits, use this converter.
(Select USA - Hawaii - Honolulu in the "convert to" area)

For your safety, I highly recommend that you turn in your entries when it reaches 11:00 pm in your respective timezones, to avoid confusion; unless you live in the Polynesian islands or another location between the dateline and Hawaiʻi (but I do not foresee this to occur).

Entry Fee

None, you just need to state your interest + provide an entry card with an appropriate explanation.

Rules

1. Standard YCM and Custom Cards rules apply in this section. Please remember to abide by / follow them in this contest.

2. Written Cards will be accepted, however if you opt to do this; do not use the cardmaker to generate a pictureless image. Just type it out in text format.

3. When posting a card, make sure that you have its lore posted beneath, so it is easier for the judges to read your effect. Also make sure that you post it properly using the cardmaker.

4. You are allowed to make edits to your card until the deadline, HOWEVER you should have already designed the card as a final product.

5. The usage of Fake Types / Attributes, as well as DIVINE, Divine-Beast and Creator God is expressly forbidden.
You are expected to design a card that adheres to the current standards set by Konami (usage of the existing 23 legal Types + 6 Attributes).

(That way, it's easier for Nai to grade stuff instead of having to hunt for them later; also easier on me instead of editing a submission post every time one of you makes an edit)

Judges

 • Nai (head)
 • YugsterMajor

will not be acting as a judge this time around, due to academic reasons; however I reserve the right to step in during judging decisions if the need arises.
Just remember that whatever Nai and I say is final in terms of scoring.

If you're interested in judging, make sure you've passed the judge exam at least once (either during Aix/Saber's control of it, or under mine).
Preferably, you should've passed it more than once to improve your core + make sure you genuinely understand what to look for, but is not a requirement.

Scoring

Please refer to the discussion thread for the standard rubric that will be used for this tournament. (Linked at top of thread; or stickied)

Best of luck to all participants.

That's no bird, it's a fighter aircraft!

1 tuner + 2 or more non-tuner monsters

This card is unaffected by card effects, except monsters with the same or higher Level/Rank as this card. If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can have it gain 500 ATK.

This is more wow factor than anything. A basic idea that it needs opponents to be of that size, which comes from Satellite Cannon, but this is a slightly different take. The other idea is basically that it steals energy from its fallen foes.

And my entry is done. Just added hard OPT, because it was kinda absurd tbh.
1 Beast or Beast-Warrior-Type Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
If a Continuous Spell or Trap Card(s), or a Field Spell Card you control is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 Beast or Beast-Warrior-Type monster from your hand or graveyard. You can only activate the effect of "Scrap Auger" once per turn.

Ok. So flavor-wise, this card is kinda a trainwreck, I will admit, but mechanically, it is hilarious. This card does stuff in way more decks than its status as a Scrap monster would imply. WARNING: not all of these are necessarily good, but this is what I could come up with:

Scraps: In a scrap deck, this card can be summoned off of the typical Chimera->Beast play, however it can also be summoned with Golem->Goblin, or any Scrap monster on the field with Orthros in hand and Factory on board. Once it has been summoned, any play involving Scrap Dragon or Scrap Twin Dragon destroying a Supply Squad or Scrap Factory to hit opponent's cards also works to summon a monster, allowing for shenanigans in general. If a Leo, Keeper of the Sacred Tree has been summoned and ended up in the graveyard however, it can also be summoned by this. Furthermore, it increases the risk of your opponent using MST on a Supply Squad or Scrap Factory.

Fire Fist: Summonable by using Boar as the tuner (but sadly not working with Spirit), this pulls additional value out of each and every Fire Formation continuous spell/trap card, as when they are sent to the grave for the effects of Bear, Gorilla, Buffalo, Dragon, Rhino, Rooster, Snake, Swallow, and Tiger King. That is a long list, especially when you realize that any Fire Fist monster can be summoned by the effect of this card.

Lightsworn: Wait, what? How did this happen? I swear, this was an accident, but it is definitely a thing. By using Felis as the tuner, this can be summoned with any other level 4 Lightsworn. With Glorious Illusion, the archetype-specific COTH variant, this card combos with Felis to destroy multiple cards (use Glorious Illusion to summon Felis, tribute felis to destroy something, Glorious Illusion goes to the grave, Auger goes off, summoning Felis from grave to tribute and destroy something else). Of course, Felis is not the only monster that can be summoned by this monster's effect, and it can also bring back Aurkus, Rinyan, Ryko, and Wulf.

Plants: So, while I was checking all the tuners that could be used for this, I discovered Snyffus, a beast tuner that supports plants. A combination of Snyffus and Fallen Angel of Roses or any Dragon Ruler (Redox comes to mind immediately) summons this. Auger's effect can then be set off by Miracle Fertilizer, or cards that are jankier, such as Seed Cannon. Once the effect is set off, it can resummon Snyffus, or bring back something along the lines of Leo, Naturia Beast, or XX-Saber Gottoms.

Vanity's Emptiness: Not even an archetype, but rather a staple in the current format. As a continuous trap card that has an effect of sending itself to the grave, it can set off Auger's effect, so it becomes even more powerful in any deck that is capable of synchro summoning this card. This means that decks that would not otherwise have continuous spells or traps, such as Fableds or Beast/Racoon decks can still make use of the card's effect.

I'll join the fray! Here's the card!
1 Normal Tuner Monster + 1 or more non-Tuner Normal Monsters
Normal Monsters you control cannot be target by your opponent's card effects. If this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: you can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or lower Normal Monster from your Deck; you must control a Normal Monster to activate and resolve this effect. Once per turn, If this face-up card would leave the field by a card effect, you can send 1 Normal Monster you control to the Graveyard instead.
I thought I'd give lower leveled Normal Monsters a cool boss-ish card.

Alright! Here's my card!
1OSSb4m.jpg

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn, when your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card: You can negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. This card cannot be destroyed in battle. During each of your opponent's Standby Phase, your opponent loses 100 Life Points for each Machine-Type monster in your Graveyard.

This is the ultimate fighter! An immortal who rules not only over machines, but the whole world! I just thought that maybe Machines could have more Synchro and a little bit of support because once they are sent to the graveyard, it sorta of hard to bring it back, so when it is in the Graveyard, it can be useful!
If you guys want to give me feedback, feel free to do so! I'm open to suggestions!

Alright, I'll give this a try.

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters.

Once per turn, you can target 2 cards on the field: Return the first target to the hand, then, destroy the second target. You cannot target more than 1 card your opponent controls with this effect.

Explanation:
Not that much is needed, the effect is quite simple. It's a mini scrap dragon that spins/destroys instead of destroys/destroys. Its best use is to return a dead fiendish chain/call of the haunted/pendulum spell/vanity/etc to your hand and then get to pop something. Or you can spin a problem card your opponent has and destroy something you want destroyed, like a Fire/Ice hand for example or some Fire King/Shaddoll/Yang Zing

i'll join, here's my entry card

KyMKOlC.jpg
1 Tuner + 1 non-Tuner monster.

This card's name is treated as "Majestic Dragon" while its face-up. You can target 1 Level 1 monster in your Graveyard; Reduce this card's Level by 1, then Special Summon the target, its effect is Negated and it cannot be used as Synchro Material Monster, except for Synchro Summon of Level 8 or higher Synchro monster. You can only use this effect once while this card is face-up.

A generic synchro tuner that help ease the summon of Majestic monster, but also can be used for other thing, like Rank 1 Xyz, or synchro monster that require more than 1 non-tuner (i.e. mist wurm)
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

Cannot be flipped face-down by your opponent's card effects. When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can target 1 face-down card on the field; banish it. Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can pay 800 Life Points, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; change it to face-down Defense Position. An effect of that monster that activate on the field cannot be activated for the rest of this turn.

Since tuning into Lv.2 net you a draw, Lv.3 has a hand-tuning Tuner, Lv.4 just got SJ that fetch Rituals, Lv.5 received a MR in addition to their Armades and Catastor, Lv.6 got Goyo back, Lv.7 and 8 are just too much to mention, Lv.10 has a Hexproof big beater, Lv.11 has a bigger immune Beater and Lv.12 has so many bosses, I feel like Lv.9 that currently has only a worm that bounce 3 cards with 3 materials usage or a 3.1k beater without any other benefits is the most pitiable Lv. for Sync (while Cloud is decent, it cannot use its fullest extent on its own and that make it even worse choice than Gigan when you Sync 9 for the first time of that duel.) and that's why I'll make a Level 9 monster

Then, the key factor to prevent any new Lv.9s from being a Mist Worm 2.0 (good effect, too subpar to be used) is that they have to require only 1 non-Tuner (unless it has such uber eff that can freeze the world) like many others good generic Sync. Konami seemed to realize this with the release of Gigan and Cloud, but Gigan are just outright resource wasting without any plus in return, and as mentioned, Cloud require another Lv.9 (aka Gigan) which suddenly make it mediocre (even arguably bad if not for its walling stat and eff). So what should be made is simply a generic one that somehow useful on its own. With that said, it's time to make some good Lv.9. I then thought about some Sync I mentioned above, with Arc Light somehow reflected SJ's design and Samsara just C/P'd MR, a certain good generic Spell popped into my mind. It's BoM, and then this card was born.

With the 1st flavor-wise eff that can protect itself from opp's BoM and the 2nd eff that net you some advantage like Gigan forgot to do, this card is already a viable choice if you could make Lv.9, then there's that last effect which make this card's versatility skyrocket'd. It's basically an OPT BoM that somehow fixed one of its limiting issues by not letting you abuse your monsters' Flip effects. I heard someone asked "is an additional BoM per turn with an equivalent cost of Scout searching really not OP?" I would say let's look at its Lv. again, it's 9! Not so many decks can afford this without jumping through hoops, so that's another crucial balancing factor.

Some rulings that might be problematic:

- This card won't negate the effect that already activated by a monster that's gonna be flipped face-down by its eff.

- If this card used its eff targeting itself, then opponent used Enemy Controller, this card won't be flipped face-down when its own effect resolves.

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters

Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can send 1 Monster Card from your hand to the Graveyard; for the rest of this turn, any face-up monster that would leave the field is banished instead. During the End Phase, Special Summon to your side of the field as many monsters that were removed from play by this effect as possible.

Just wanted to give Psychics a good Level 9 boss, but it can be useful in other decks too. Its like a better version of Goyo Guardian that is able to be revived every turn and it can stop floaters.

Lore: 1 DARK Dragon-type Tuner Monster + 2 LIGHT Dragon-type Non-tuner Monsters

When this card is Synchro Summoned, destroy all other Special Summoned monsters on the field. Special Summoned monsters lose 1000 ATK; if a monster(s) ATK would become 0 by this effect: Destroy that monster(s).  At each of their Standby Phases your opponent must either discard a card or take 500 points of damage; negate the effects of cards discarded this way in the Graveyard.  LIGHT monsters cannot activate their effects.

The general idea was to make decks that Special Summon a lot despair, hence the name. I also didn't want Ultimaya to be able to grab it. It also says f u to BA decks and Lightsworns, along with others. Anyone who faces this behemoth should despair at their bad luck.

Justice God Shamash

FIRE

Level 7

Fairy/Synchro/Effect

1 Tuner + 1 non-Tuner monster

ATK 2400/DEF 2800

When this card is Synchro Summoned, if your opponent has more total cards in their hand and their side of the field than you do: You can target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy it, then activate the appropriate effect, based on the type of card destroyed:
●Spell: Draw 1 card.
●Trap: Target 1 face-up monster on the field; this turn, it is unaffected by other card effects, except its own.
●Monster: Inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's original ATK.

its a generic level 7 synchro that has various effect depending on what it destroys. its an alternative to black rose moonlight dragon and yazi evil of the yang zing.
"Plaguespreader Zombie" + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
You can target 1 monster your Graveyard, except "Franken Surgeon", and 1 monster in your opponent's Graveyard; Special Summon the first target, and banish the second target. The Summoned's ATK and DEF become equal to the banished monster's ATK and DEF, also it cannot be used as Material for a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Summon. You can only use the effect of "Franken Surgeon" once per turn.

"Another successful procedure!"

Back in the 1v1 Winter Open this was one of the card arts I was considering but couldn't create a good effect around. Then I decided to come back to that shelved idea, and take some inspiration off The Mimeoplasm and Stitcher Geralf, creating a card that spliced two monsters into one by imbuing one monster with the body of another.

So what this card's main effect does is essentially a doped-up version of Book of Life. To keep it out of the generic masses' hands and accidentally breaking games I decided to have it be another Plaguespreader Synchro. 2000/2700 stats are to make sure that the doctor is not exactly fit for going on killing sprees but can do so if the opposition is weak enough. Use of the "and" conjunction here means that if you can't Special Summon the first target, you don't get to banish the second, and vice-versa. You can't put your work together if you're denied all your source material, after all!

One common issue plaguing generic revival options is the ability to use said monster to fuel more Synchros and Xyzs and spiraling into the summon-many-monsters-in-one-turn game state that we all see. Hence you can't use the doctor's new creation for such things, forcing you to think a little more on who you want to drag back kicking and screaming from the Grave. You are allowed to use their effects and attack with them - in fact, it's a mad doctor's dream to see their newest creation run about unimpeded.

Hard OPT clause also blocks out extended loops other copies of itself, and the card can't revive other copies of itself anyway (but can, however, splice the opponent's copies of this card into other monsters.)
