Random Rulings & Articles Compendium

Recommended Posts

This is a thread I made over on DNF because I had a bunch of random Rulings which I had on a Pastebin, but some of them might have been outdated or simply false, so I asked for some help. Now it also has a bunch of articles as well, and I am updating it whenever I find a new Ruling I didn't know before. If you find a flaw or want something added, let me know.

Keep in mind that some of these were written a while ago, so I might use terms like "miss the timing" in some places, just try to ignore that if you can.

Things that are different in the TCG and OCG are now up at the top, SEGOC rules below that.

Want some of the most commonly asked Rulings? I got a whole thread dedicated to commonly asked Rulings. Check it out here:

Also, check out my Rulebook for a more general view on Rulings:

[spoiler=Region specific rulings (Last Updated: 28/01/16 at 09:50 CET)]

In the TCG, you cannot pay LP if you would lose the duel by doing so (say, by using Solemn Warning with 2000 or less LP) but in the OCG, you can as long as it is the exact amount (can't pay if you got less than the exact amount).

In the TCG, you can negate Gemini Monsters with Majestic Star Dragon, but you cannot activate that card's effects as Majestic's effects.

In the TCG, if Mind Control takes control of an opponent's monster, but it is returned before the End Phase, it may still not be Tribute or attack (even though this is kind of irrelevant since this you cannot attack during your opponent's turn anyway). In the OCG you may Attack or Tribute it.

In the TCG, if Skill Drain is up, you cannot activate Effect Veiler, as the card doesn't do anything else than negating. It must do something else, otherwise, you cannot use it. For example, Fiendish Chain can be used. Doesn't apply in the OCG.

In the TCG, you can keep using Swap Frog's effect to return itself to the hand over and over again, but in the OCG you can only do it the one time.

In the TCG, if  you roll 1 and get a Morphtronic with Celfon, it will still shuffle the Deck, even though there's nothing to shuffle into the Deck, in the OCG, the Deck isn't shuffled.

Evilswarm Coppelia is a mandatory effect in the OCG. Furthermore, in the OCG, Evilswarm Coppelia and Naturia Cherries will trigger when sent to the Graveyard by any card in your opponent's possession, even if it's for a cost or Summoning procedure, contrary to their TCG texts.

Vylon Prism's ATK-boosting effect acts as a Continuous Effect in the TCG, even though it has a colon for that effect.

In the OCG (and DN), you can activate Ghostrick Mary and Gorz the Emissary of Darkness in the same Chain, as only Trigger Effects of monsters that Special Summon themselves from the hand cannot be activated at the same time, but others can, according to the OCG's Perfect Rulebook.

In the TCG, if Treeborn Frog has its activation negated in the Graveyard by something like Solemn Warning, you may use it once again.

In the TCG, you can activate Swap Frog's effect multiple times, but you can only Normal Summon one extra time.

[spoiler=Rulings (Last Updated: 01/05/16 at 09:58 CET)]

According to SEGOC (Simultaneous Effects Go On Chain), when multiple Trigger Effects activate at the same time, you follow these specific rules. Also, remember that in the TCG, anything that had it's condition met first is require to be before anything else, though still according to these rules:

1. Turn Player's Mandatory
2. Non-Turn Player's Mandatory Effects
3. Turn Player's Optional Effects
4. Non-Turn Player's Optional Effect

For cards that state something like the following: "You can only activate/use the effect of "card name" once per turn/Duel" follow this chart:

Use: If you activated the effect, if the activation OR the effect is negated, you cannot use it again.

Activate: You can use it again if it only negates the activation, and not the effect.

Negate the effect...: You cannot use the effect again, neither for "use" or "activate".

Negate the activation...: You cannot use the effect again for "use", but you can for "activate".

Conditions: If it has a condition that says something like this: "You cannot do X during the turn this card/effect was activated/used", then it works the same, in that those things are not applied.

Gravekeeper’s Watcher and Gemini Imps cannot be activated during the Damage Step, despite being negating activations.

Both players can have a Field Spell Card up at once, and when you activate a new one, your Field Spell Card that is on the field gets sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics.

You can declare a Forbidden card with Mind Crush.

Royal Decree will still negate the effects of Trap Cards, even if they leave the field, because unlike Skill Drain, it doesn't say face-up, so it will still negate it, because it activates on the field.

Ecen though a Trap Card is Set directly from the Deck, for example with Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Dragon, it CANNOT be activated that turn. Quick-Play and Trap Cards cannot be activated during the turn they are Set, unless stated otherwise.

If Lance is chained to Magic Cylinder, the attack will  go through, and there will be no damage.

If both players have Exodia in the hand, it's a draw.

If a card like Sangan is Summoned and it's Summon is negated by something like Horn of Heaven or Solemn Warning, it has never been on the field, and therefor won't trigger.

You cannot even attempt to Special Summon while Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo is face-up, so you can't Tribute Dyna to Special Summon Lava Golem and such, even though it would cause them to leave the field.

Spirit Reaper will not destroy itself if what targets it has its activation negated, HOWEVER, if the effect is negated, but the effect resolves still, it will destroy itself.

Card Trooper will activate if it's in your Spell/Trap Card Zone and is destroyed from there.

If something like Yosenju Kama, a Spirit Monster or Genex Neutron is not face-up, it's effect will not activate. However, if it was flipped face-down, then face-up, it will activate since it is still considered to have been Normal Summoned.

Trigger effects activate where their conditions meet, even if they leave the place before it activates fully.

If a B.E.S. monster has another kind of counter on it (For example a Venom Counter), then it cannot remove that kind of counter, it must remove the counter it put on itself.

Even though no name counters are called the same on different cards, if a counter from a card like Magic Reflector is put on Colosseum - Cage of the Gladiator Beasts, it won't increase the ATK of Gladiator Beasts, since it must be the counter from Colosseum - Cage of the Gladiator Beasts and not any other kind.

You can use Solemn Warning againts cards like Starlight Road, even though their Special Summon isn't mandatory, nor if there is no monster to be Summoned.

Cards like Fire Formation - Tenki that activate an effect when you activate the card will activate that effect in the same Chain as the Chain you activate the card in.

If a Continuous Spell/Trap, Field or Equip Card has an effect that activates, if the card is removed from the field, then that effect won't resolve correctly.¨

You can activate effects of cards like Dark Smog when you activate them, and all Continuous Trap Cards can activate their effects during the opponent's turn (unless stated otherwise) and are all Quick-like Effects

If an activation is negated (not the actual effect) then the last Chain Link is NOT that one, rather the one above it. Also, if an effect cannot resolve, or only the effect is negated, it will still be considered to be the last thing to have happened, even though nothing happens.

If multiple Doomcaliber Knight would negate a monster effect's activation, let's say Sangan, then they will both Tribute themselves. Only Chain Link 2 Doomcaliber would negate Sangan, while Chain Link 3 Doomcaliber and above would resolve without effect, because you can normally only negate the actual activation if Chained directly to it, which is why you cannot negate Chain Link 1 of SEGOC with something like Divine Wrath, but only the highest Chain Link, but since both are mandatory, they NEED to Tribute themselves, leaving the other to not resolve properly because of what previously said.

If both players Summon a monster like Dragon Ice by the effect of Spear Cretin face-up, then the turn player's monster will survive, and the opponnet's be destroyed by game mechanics. Same goes if Creature Swap is used.

Any card that doesn't say a max Level (such as Fortune Ladies) can go over 12. Note, this does not apply for other effects, you can still increase a Fortune Lady with an effect such as Spellbook of Life.

Monsters with ? are considered to have undefined ATK and DEF while in your hand, so cards like Dark Devestation Virus cannot destroy them.

If Forbidden Lance is Chained to Falling Down, it will change sides when Forbidden Lance stops applying

If Life Points are halved down to it being XXXX.5 then it will be rounded up.

A monster that is Flip Summoned and is negated by something like Solemn Warning, the monster isn't considered to have been on the field, so Sangan won't activate, also, it isn't considered to have been sent while face-down or face-up since it's Summon was negated. Similarly, if Yang Zing Creation is on the field and a Flip Summon is negated, it won't activate.

If two monsters with 0 ATK battle each other, neither is destroyed and neither player takes battle damage

You choose effects like Lavalal Chain's at activation.

Ordinarily, if an effect may perform an action, and that action is being prevented, the effect cannot be activated, however, if Protector of the Sanctuary is up, cards which are mandatory will still activate, but cards will not be drawn (Morphing Jar). A card which might or might not draw for you can be activated (Gamble).

If a card like Fake Feather targets a card with an effect that targets, it will target the card(s) when the card resolves. Cards like Spirit Reaper will be destroyed at that point. You don't have to pay costs though.

If a monster like Total Defense Shogun attacks while in Attack Position, but is then changed with something like Widespread Ruin, it will continue its attack since it can still attack while in Defense Position.

You must normally be able to fulfill everything during resolution when you activate a card, however, there are some exceptions, such as Changing Destiny. This card can be activated, even if a monster in Defense Position attacks, such as Total Defense Shogun.

You cannot activate the effects of cards like Hazy Flame when you activate the card, because it must have resolved to be considered to be face-up, so you cannot send it.

If a card changes control, the "Once per turn: You can..." or "you can only use this effect of..." effects may not be activated that turn again. Also, the same idea goes for Continuous Effects like "Once per turn, this card cannot be destroyed by battle".

Cards like Red Nova Dragon or Stardust Dragon will return to the original owners side of the field if it uses its effect. Cards like Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon will return to the person who used its effect.

You can still activate cards like Polymerization while Macro Cosmos is up, but the monsters will be banished instead of being sent to the Graveyard.

If you attack Tragodia with Utopia Ray Victory, it will not gain any ATK due to the first effect still physically happening before the second effect, thereby negating the effects of Tragodia, making its ATK 0.

Continuous Effects of Set monsters that would destroy or otherwise remove themselves such as Burning Abyss and Malefics don't apply until after damage calculation, so it will still get attacked, and after that, if it survives the battle, it will blow itself up.

"This card cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster, except for the Synchro Summon of an X" is a condition. It won't be negated by the likes of Skill Drain.

Multiple Tributes/Rituals can be negated.

If Call of the Haunted is negated by something like Trap Stun, then its effect is re-applied during the next turn, and will cause the target to be destroyed if it left the field. Also, if Call of the Haunted is destroyed while Trap Stun is in effect, then the monster remains on the field.

If you control your opponent's Wind-Up Rabbit/Evilswarm Thunderbird with Enemy Controller, then if you use its effect, it will return back to your field, then change to their field, so if you have 5 monsters, then it will be sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics instead.

Attempting to activate Call of the Haunted in response to Phantom of Chaos when it targets a monster like Guardian of Order is an illegal move/You can activate Call of the Haunted, but it will be destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics.

If you have two Malefic Stardust Dragons face-down and both are flipped face-up by Book of Eclipse, then one is destroyed. If you have Skill Drain up, then neither is destroyed (until Skill Drain is removed, in which case, one of them is destroyed).

If Jinzo is flipped face-up by Acid Trap Hole, it will still be destroyed because you cannot negate part of an effect, Continuous Effects can apply between sequential actions.

Threating Roar affects the player, not the monster, so Forbidden Lance will not do anything. Same with Wakabo.

If Zombie World is up and DNA Surgery is played, then DNA will make all monsters on the field the declared Type. The rest of the effects of Zombie World still apply however.

Equip Spell Cards (and other Equip Cards) still stay on the monster it's equipped to if that monster becomes unaffected by something like Forbidden Lance, but of course won't do anything since the card is unaffected by Spells.

If a monster becomes unaffected by effects (Say Evilswarm Thanatos) and it declares an direct attack, Swift Scarecrow won't have any affect on it.

Cards in the Deck, Graveyard or Banished Zone cannot be destroyed again, so cards like Vampire Lord or Sacred Phoenix of Nephythys won't trigger if destroyed while in the Graveyard, say, you use their effects to Special Summon themselves, but they are negated by Solemn Warning. If an effect activates in the Extra Deck, it can be destroyed (but if a card didn't activate in the Extra Deck, but the card is now there, it will not be destroyed).

If a replay happens, you cannot activate cards that respond to a monster declaring an attack since the attack has already technically been declared.

If a "Once per turn: You can..." effect has its activation negated, unlike "You can only activate this effect" effects, you cannot attempt to activate it again.

If you use Effect Veiler on Naturia Bamboo Shoot, its effect will re-apply after Veiler stops during the End Phase, even if it was used when it was Tribute Summoned (at least on DN, ask your Head Judge at your event.)

You cannot activate cards that would put a monster on the field that isn't the correct Type/Attribute if you have Rivalry of Warlords/Gozen Match up. So, if you had Phalanx in the S/T Zone and tried to Summon it with its effect but only had Winged Beast, then you cannot activate that effect. However, if Rivalry was Chained, and you end up with a Dragon-Type and a Winged-Beast-Type, then you will have to pick one of them to send to the Graveyard.

Cards can both be sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics, or destroyed by game mechanics. For instance, an Equip loses its target or a new Field is place. This would cause the cards to destroy themselves by game mechanics. It being sent to the Graveyard would be if Wind-Up Rabbit activated but there is no room for it on the field during the Standby Phase. It will be sent to the Graveyard instead.

"That target" and "those targets" indicates that the targets must still be the same targets with the same characteristics, including resolution and they must be in the same place (field/Graveyard etc.) If one of "those targets" is not correct anymore, it will still resolve properly if the other(s) is correct.

"It"/"This card" and "they"/"them" indicate that the targets only need the specified characteristics at the time of targeting as long as they're in the same place (field/Graveyard etc.) they will still resolve

If a card says "both (those) targets" it doesn't matter, if one of the targets is incorrect (the Battle Position was changed when it still needed to be in Attack Position), if one of the targets is still correct, it won't resolve properly.

If a card mentions a number of targets such as "all X targets" then all must still be correct, with the same characteristics.

Horn of the Phantom Beast and other Equip Cards will be sent to the Graveyard if it loses its target. This even applies if they are negated by things like Trap Stun.

You can activate Eradicator Epidemic Virus and Icarus Attack by Tributing a face-down monster as well as a face-up monster.

If a card targets a card on the field, it cannot target a monster that is destroyed by battle.

Cards like Strong Wind Dragon check the type on the field, so if a Zombie is changed to Dragon with DNA Surgery, it will still work.

You can activate a Rank-Up-Magic card if all your Zones are full, and in that case, the Zone the monster will be Summoned in is the same on as the targeted monster.

If both players control a face-down Senior Silver Ninja and they both get flipped face-up by Curse of Fiend, then the turn player's will survive, and the other will be sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics. Both effects will still activate according to SECOG.

If Crimson Blader is destroyed before its effect activates after it destroys an opponent's monster, then that effect won't activate. If Crimson Blader's effect activates, but is removed from the field before it resolves, then it will still resolve properly.

Blizzard Princess applies at the same time as you can activate cards like Bottomless Trap Hole. It doesn't apply before, so you can still use Solemn Warning to negate its Summon.

If there is enough information for a play to be able to continue after a judge validates the situation of a mandatory effect that was not resolved previously, then go back to when that situation  happened and both players get a Warning.

If "Archlord Kristya" is destroyed by battle while "Grave Protector" is face-up on the field the effect of "Grave Protector" will apply and Kristya will be shuffled back into the Deck.

If cards like Quick-Span Knight are sent to the Graveyard for a Synchro Summon, but that Summon is negated, then Quick-Span won't activate.

The Wacky Alchemy! requires a card to be sent from the Spell & Trap Zone, so if a Field Spell Card is sent, then it cannot activate.

Memory of an Adversary will still resolve if the damage is changed when resolving (like if Ghostrick House is up). It will not resolve properly if Prime Material Dragon is up, or if Des Wombat is up.

If a card like Evilswarm Castor has its effects negated by Skill Drain from the moment it hits the field, if Infestation Pandemic is used on it, its effect will apply again.

Once a card like Beast King Barbaros has its effects negated by something like Skill Drain, it will not go back down to 1900.

If a card has its ATK/DEF freezed with a card such as Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind, then it will stay there, even if its effects that would change it to something else, such as Beast King Barbaros, are negated.

You cannot go into Main Phase 2 without first going into the Battle Phase. You don't need to conduct battle, but it is a requirement that you go into the Battle Phase first. If you go into the Battle Phase, you must also go into the Main Phase 2. You cannot skip Main Phase 2 and go directly into the End Phase, unless you go directly into the End Phase from Main Phase 1. You cannot go into the Battle Phase during your first turn. You can go into the Battle Phase with no monsters to attack with.

During the Damage Step, up until Damage Calculation, you can activate cards that alter ATK and DEF. You can however still activate cards that alter ATK and DEF during Damage Calculation if the card that alters says it can be activated during the Damage Step, or if the card says specifically that it can be activated during Damage Calculation.

If Galaxy Dragun attacks another Galaxy Dragun, the turn player's Dragun would apply its effect first.

If a card Monster Effect, Spell/Trap Card is activated during the Damage Step before Damage Calculation, Scrap Shark will not destroy itself until after Damage Calculation. Afterwards, even if it is destroyed by battle, it will destroy itself by its effect.

A monster such as Allure Queen LV5 that is Special Summoned by another card does not forget that it was Special Summoned by it if it was temporarily banished by something like Interdimensional Matter Transporter, and it can therefore use its effect.

Pot of Duality only prevents you from during Special Summons. If your opponent forces you to Special Summon, say by the effect of The Grave of Enkindling, that monster will still be Special Summoned.

If Shooting Quasar Dragon can attack multiple times, but its effects are negated by something like Skill Drain, it cannot attack multiple times, also, if it is already attacking it will be stopped. If its effects are negated during the Damage Step, battle will still continue.

If your opponent's Jurrac Guaiba/Timeater that you own crashes into a monster with the same ATK, then the opponent will get to use the effect.

If you attack a face-down Blast Sphere with Star Eater it will still equip itself.

Monsters that are equipped to monsters are not monsters but Equip Spell Cards. Some monsters say they are something else while in the Spell/Trap Card Zone, and if they are not, they are always Equip Spell Card if they Equip themselves, if not, they are Normal Spells.

If an ATK/DEF/Level modifier applies only to the monster who used that effect, then when its effect is negated, that modifier disappears. If an ATK/DEF/Level modifier applies to other monsters as well, then when the effect of the monster which used that effect is negated, that modifier does not disappear. This also applies when a modifier that could affect multiple monsters, but can now affect only the monster that used it (because it's the only monster on the field).

If a card like Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon battles Star Eater, you can still activate Galaxy-Eyes effect, because the target is still correct both during activation and resolution, however, since Star Eater is not affected by Galaxy-Eyes, it will not be banished, but Galaxy-Eyes will.

If a monster is unaffected by Spell/Traps by Forbidden Lance, then using Negate Attack will have no effect. Plus, since Negate Attack could not negate the attack, the Battle Phase is also not ended.

Levels don't freeze. This means that if a Level 8 monster was targeted by Feedback Warrior while Stygian Dirge is up, its Level will become 3, then become 2 because of Stygian Dirge.

If the non-turn player activates Call of the Haunted during the opponent's turn, and the opponent then gains control of, for instance with Enemy Controller, that monster's Battle Position cannot be changed.

If a card like Phantom of Chaos copies something like Ape Fighter, and the effect of Ape Fighter is used, then when Phantom's effect wears off, so will the changes. This is because monsters that modify their own ATK/DEF stats are Continuous Effects, and since Phantom is no longer copying it, that effect is gone.

Monsters whose ATK/DEF has been fixed/frozen at a certain value will not have it changed if a card that changes original ATK/DEF is in place.

Changing a monster's original ATK doesn't affect the current ATK if it has been fixed/frozen at a certain value. For example, a monster affected by Reptilianne Medusa is later equipped with Unstable Evolution. It will remain at 0 ATK even though technically, it's original ATK has been changed.

If a player sends Peten the Dark Clown to the Graveyard to Special Summmon Quickdarw Synchron, Peten will miss the timing, as Inherent Summons with conditions kind of work like costs, meaning that it will make certain effects that state "when...you can" miss the timing.

If Limiter Removal is used, then later Forbidden Lance is used, it will still double the ATK of that monster, but Lance will reduce it by 800.

If Neko Mane King is discarded by Card Destruction and the turn player's Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World is activated, Neko Mane King will make it the End Phase, then Grapha will resolve at that point.

You can activate Forced Back when Ultimate Offering is used, but not if Ultimate Offering is Chain Link 2 or higher.

If Atlantean Dragoons is attached to Number 19: Freezadon, if you detach it to activate the effect of another monster, it Dragoons won't activate its effect.

Monsters are not sent to the Graveyard until the end of the Damage Step, so if Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter sends Wulf, Lightsworn Beast to the Graveyard with its mill effect while there is 5 monsters in that player's Monster Card Zones, then Wulf will resolve without effect since 5 Monster Card Zones are still filled up.

You cannot play Question while Imperial Iron Wall is up. You can play it while Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer is up though, BKSS.

If Call of the Haunted targeting an Earthbound Immortal monster is Chained to the activation of a Field Spell Card, that monster will not destroy itself when it is Summoned because the Earthbound monster requires only a Field Spell to psychically exist on the field.

If a card such as Battlin' Boxer Lead Yoke is continuously destroyed, for example with Venon Swamp, you can activate its effect, however, the continuous destroying effect will apply and keep on destroying it until Lead Yoke no longer has material on it.

If an Equip Spell Card is no longer valid when it would equip itself, then it will be sent to the Graveyard by game mechanics. If its no longer valid after resolution, then it will be destroyed by game mechanics.

If a card like Caius The Shadow Monarch targets a Set Trap Monster for its effect, and the opponent activates the Trap Monster, it will banish the Trap Monster from the Spell/Trap Card Zone, and no damage will be inflicted, even if it was a DARK monster.

If Pot of Duality is activated, and Mistake is Chained, then you will send 1 of the cards to the Graveyard, and you will shuffle the rest into the Deck.

Gozen Match affects players, using Forbidden Lance on a monster will not prevent it from being sent to the Graveyard.

You cannot activate multiple cards that trigger in the hand or the Graveyard at the same time, such as Green Baboon, Defender of the Forest.

If an effect would negate all cards, but some of the cards are already negated, it will not negate those that are already negated. This means that if an effect is already negating an effect and that effect is negated, the effect that was negated cannot be negated, and regains its effect. This is of course, in case the negating effect is not continuously applied. Rank-Up Magic Numeron Force VS Royal Decree negating Dark Smog for example.

If Fortune Lady Light returns to the hand face-down, it will still trigger. This contradicts Reborn Tengu, which does not activate if returned to the hand face-down.

If you know your opponent doesn't have any monsters in their Deck, for example if they used Inferno Tempest, then you can still declare "monsters" with Vampire Lord. This is because it doesn't make the Deck public knowledge.  The same applies to Mind Crush. You get to check their Deck as well when they say there are no monsters left.

If a monster has its effects negated by something like Effect Veiler, that's a Lingering Effect. Unlike Skill Drain, which only negates while the monsters are on the field, Effect Veiler also negates monsters which leave the field for their effects, or are forced off the field by other effects, such as Abysspike getting destroyed by Bottomless Trap Hole after being Summoned with Abyss-Sphere.

Xyz Monsters cannot have Xyz Material while in the S/T Zone, and they are sent to the Graveyard when an Xyz Monster is up in the S/T Zone.

Dimensional Fissure does not banish cards from the Graveyard. It banishes them instead of being sent to the Graveyard. If you control Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer, monsters sent to the Graveyard are still banished.

Cards that are unaffecetd by other card effects will not have thier Counters taken away, unlike if they had their effects negated (except for those cases where they are NOT removed when negated).

White Stone of Legend has an old Ruling that supports that you are not allowed to verify the hand when you varify if there are 3 copies in your hand or Deck, and it says you only check the Deck. This is false, you still check the hand (as well as the Field, Graveyard an Banished Zone as normal).

If Utopia attacks Utopia Ray V, since they both are trigger effects, they will form a Chain according to SEGOC. If Utopia attacks and a Spell Speed 2 is activated, since Utopia's effect is Spell Speed 1, it will miss the timing.

If you negate Trap Card effects, Trap Monsters will go back into the S/T Card Zone face-up and be meaningless. However, negating monster effects will not put them back.

If a monsters is flipped face-down after it attacks, it cannot attack again that turn, even if flipped face-up again during the same Battle Phase.

It is the play who preforms the Special Summmon that Special Summons a card, even if that's onto the opponent's field. You cannot activate cards like Grinder Golem.

Cards that makes you unable to conduct your Battle Phase, like Ruffian Railcar, can be activated the first turn.

You can activate multiple cards that replaces your normal draw, such as Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru, and they will form a Chain, but only the very last one will resolve.

If Respect Play is activate, Coach King Giantrainer can activate its effect, but since the drawing and revealing parts happen at the same time, you can't draw a card.

When the monsters return from the effect of Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon, you can change the battle positions of either monster during your Main Phase 2.

If you Chain Fairy Wind to the activation of a card, that card will also be destroyed.

then return it to top or bottom of their Deck. For each "Chronox" monster you control, other than "Chronox Karca", if you returned it on the bottom of their Deck, you can look at an additional card, then return it to the top or bottom of their Deck.

The monsters summoned by the effects of Formula Synchron, Advanced Heraldry Art, Urgent Tuning can have their summons negated by TKR/Black Horn of Heaven.

Win conditions apply before things like Maxx "C" are taken into account. So, if a player would draw the last peace of Exodia when The Creator God of Light, Horakhty is Special Summoned, then the player who Summoned Horakhty wins.

If a player controls a Field Spell Card and has Malefic Stardust Dragon on the field and the other player tries to activate a Field Spell Card, if Mystical Space Typhoon is Chained to the activation of the Field Spell Card, that card will not be destroyed, as the Field Spell Card is considered face-up at that point, and is therefore protected by Malefic Stardust Dragon.

Cards like Brainwashing Beam, Call of the Haunted, Wicked Rebirth or Lucky Punch destroy themselves by their effects, and White Dragon Ninja can prevent that from happening.

Cards like Deck Lockdown, Break! Draw! or Nightmare's Steelcage have different types of... mechanisms that destroy them, they are not considered effects. You can think of them more like conditions that get fulfilled and destroy the card.¨

When you use a Rank-Up Magic card, you are allowed to change the zone of which the monster is Summoned it.

If an effect is negated that would require you to do something specific that isn't public knownlage until resolution, such as Tributing for a Ritual Summon, you can request a judge to check if it in case you feel that your opponent baited you when they didn't have cards they could use.

Cards that are banished face-down may be looked at by the player who possesses them. Furthermore, as they are face-down, effects which require a specific property of that banished card (e.g., a level, name, stat, etc.) cannot be used on that face-down card. However, an effect such as Necroface, which only requires the card to be banished, will still shuffle that card into the Deck.

Anything that can potentially chain itself infinitely (these effects generally do not have costs, like Light and Darkness Dragon or Mist Valley Apex Avian) can only be activated once per Chain. You cannot activate Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon's effect more than once per Chain because of this.

Cards that state "When *something that also could be itself* is Summoned" will trigger when it itself is Summoned, but cards that say "each time *something that also could be itself* is Summoned" will not be able to trigger.

If an effect forces you to go to Damage Calculation, such as Magical Arm Shield, then any effect before that will resolve after Damage Calculation instead.

If a card such as A Hero Emerges is used and it picks a monster that cannot be Special Summoned, such as a Dark Necrofear, or a Spirit Monster, then it is instead sent to the Graveyard.

If you Summmon Spore with its effect and then sent it to the Graveyard with Oreia, the Sylvan High Arbiter, it will only look at one card, since Oreia check the Level in the Graveyard, not on the field.

Number 58: Burner Visor cannot let a monster that cannot attack directly attack directly.

If you send Call of the Haunted that Summoned an Insect-Type monster to the Graveyard to activate Beetron's effect, then you can target that very same monster as Call of the Haunted's Continuous Effect to destroy the card it targeted when it leaves the field destroys the monster immediately so the monster will be in the Graveyard by the time you target monsters.

DNA Surgery stops applying as soon as a card Tributes itself as a cost, so if you Tribute Temperance of Prophecy to Special Summon World of Prophecy, then it is considered Special Summoned by the effect of a Spellcaster monster and can activate its effect.

If Ignoble Knight of High Laundsallyn gets hit by BTH, the Equip Spell Card will stay in the Deck.

If you cannot negate the activation, for example if Constellar Belt or Splendid Venus is on the field, then you cannot activate cards that would do such a thing, such as Divine Wrath or Evolzar Laggia.

If a Gemini Monster affected by Forbidden Lance Gemini Summons itself, then it will still be negated by something like Solemn Warning, as it creates a form of limbo where it isn't considered to be on the field anymore, so Forbidden Lance won't affect it.

You cannot Normal Set a card if a card allows an additional Normal Summon with text as so "you can Normal Summon 1 "x" monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set."

If you use Graverobber on One Day of Peace, you'll still take damage from Graverobber.

You must always declare which Phase or Step you're going into, for example, should you go into the Battle Phase or End Phase must be communicated to your opponent.

If both players agree to continue to the next Phase/Step, then you cannot go back on that in any way.

Storm Caller: If a Psychic-Type monster destroys your opponent's "Apprentice Magician" by battle, if you return it to the top of your opponent's Deck its effect does not activate.

If Elemental HERO Absolute Zero is returned to the Extra Deck, it will still activate its effect.

If a monster has been tribute Set and then flipped face-up, it still remembers that it had used tributes for its summon. It is a valid prerequisite for the activation of Overwhelm.

If Creature Swap does not switch control of the monsters, you can still change the position of the monsters since the lingering effect does not apply.

If a monster Special Summoned from the Extra Deck is flipped face-down by Book of Moon, it isn't treated as having been Special Summoned from the Extra Deck, so Shaddoll Fusion will not make it so you can use cards from your Deck. Note that it's still considered Special Summoned, just not from the Extra Deck.

If you control both Koa'ki Meiru Prototype and Ghoulnulate, if Ghoul would be destroyed by its maintenance cost, you can use Prototype's substitute effect, then you can apply Ghoul's substitute effect to make both still stay.

If a piece of Exodia is Summoned with Relay Soul, and it's returned to the hand while you have the other 4 pieces in your hand, then it'll end in a draw, since your opponent would win and you would win.

If Stardust Dragon is destroyed by battle by Red Dragon Archfiend while in Defense Position, it cannot activate its effect to negate the effect of Red Dragon Archfiend, since it's destroyed by battle, but mandatory effects like Doomcaliber Knight can negate even if destroyed by battle. Optional Quick Effect that negate activation may not be activated after being destroyed by battle, however other effects may still do.

If Wind-Up Juggler is destroyed by battle, it's effect can still be activated after Damage Calculation.

When you Summon a monster while Stellarknight Delteros has Xyz Material and you activate a card or effect in response to that Summon, your opponent can still not activate any cards, since it's still considered to be in response to the Summon.

Bujintei Kagutshichi can only protect 1 Bujin monster with it's detach effect, even if it has multiple materials, it cannot detach multiple to protect more than one monster being destroyed at the same time.

While the effect of "Aegis of the Ocean Dragon Lord" is active, Level 3 or lower WATER monsters cannot be destroyed. Thus, when "Armed Sea Hunter" is destroyed, you cannot choose to apply its effect which destroys a Level 3 or lower WATER monster instead

Volcanic Scattershot will on activate even when sent with Blaze Accelerator (at least on DN, figure out how your Head Judge rules at events), since its Ruling conflicts with the idea of the Archetype, and also how the card is written if it were to be written with PSCT.

If a face-down Bujin Beast-Warrior-Type monster is destroyed, you can still activate Bujin Mikazuchi, since it checks it in the Graveyard. If a face-down Level 5 or higher Plant-Type monster is destroyed, you cannot activate it, because it checks it while it is on the field, since it doesn't say "and sent to the Graveyard".

Detaching Xyz Materials from a monster does not affect it, therefore, if Temtempo the Percussion Djinn would detach from a monster that is unaffected by effects, it will still detach them. Attaching Xyz Materials on the other hand does affect them, such as Space Cyclone against a monster unaffected by effects.

Noble Arms Equip Spell Card that is equipped to a monster will activate when the monster is destroyed, used as a Synchro/Xyz Material, Tributed etc.

When a monster moves to a new location different from where it has activated "negate and destroy" effects, or other effects of similar nature (banish, return, etc...), will only negate it. For example, Honest VS Debunk or Compulsory Evacuation Device VS Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare.

If Skill Drain was on the field and Jinzo is Summoned, then Forbidden Lance was used on it, Skill Drain will be negated, and during the End Phase when Forbidden Lance turns off, Jinzo will keep negating Skill Drain.

If Skill Drain was on the field and Elemental HERO Wildheart is Summoned, then Forbidden Lance was used on it, Wildheart will be unaffected by Trap Cards, and during the End Phase when Forbidden Lance turns off, Wildheart will return to being negated.

If Jinzo is on the field, and a player uses Effect Veiler, Jinzo's effects will be negated until the End Phase, then Skill Drain is activated, then it will will reapply its effect negating Skill Drain.

You cannot activate a card whose text alone would cause you to lose the duel. Other cards that deal damage or draw cards based on variables (Ring of Destruction, Card Destruction) can still be activated.

For Daigusto Emeral, if you have a non-Effect Monster in your Graveyard and another monster, or you have 3 Effect Monsters in your Graveyard, and 1 non-Effect Monster attached, you still cannot detach a monster and use the other effect, since you need to choose at activation which effect you're using, and you cannot do that since your activation conditions are not legal.

Cards like Earthbound Immortals, Harpie's Pet Phantasmal Dragon, etc., which state that the restriction is placed on "your opponent" do not affect the monster.

Freya, Spirit of Victory, which specifies that "your opponent's monsters" cannot target it for attacks, affects the monster.

The same Equip Spell Card rules also apply to other Equip Cards such as Plant Food Chain where if the targeting conditions are no longer correct, the Equip Card is destroyed.

It has been confirmed that Spell speed is no longer relevant to SEGOC. UDE's Ojamagic ruling is outdated. You form the chain in accordance with the normal rules of simultaneous effects, irrespective of Spell Speeds.

If you control a face-up "Burning Abyss" monster, and then Set 1 monster face-down, or otherwise would control a face-down monster alongside your "Burning Abyss" monster, that monster is treated a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, and your "Burning Abyss" monster will destroy itself.

Chain Disappearance cannot banish Extra Deck monsters.

If you activate The Monarchs Stormforth while both players control 1 monster each, then if Kaiser Colosseum is up, then you would not be able to Tribute your opponent's monster, as the game would see that you would have more monsters than you currently have, even though at the time it's Summoned, your opponent has no monsters. If you Tribute both your monsters and your opponent's monster for a Level 7 or higher monster, then you would have 1 monster, so that is allowed.

If Elder God Noden activates its effect, and then Bottomless Trap Hole is activated, the monster will still be Special Summoned and it won't be banished because Noden already left the field.

If a card like Aegis of Gaia is shuffled into the Deck, its effect will still apply, since Continuous Effects still apply, even if shuffled into the Deck. Effects like Reborn Tengu will not activate when returned to the Deck since it starts a Chain Link. It will activate when returned to the hand though.

If Lady of the Lake is used as a Synchro Material, but the Synchro Summon is negated, it will still be banished.

If you use a Double Tributer, such as Kaiser Sea Horse, you can still use Intercept since only one monster was physically Tributed.

If Kaiser Colosseum is up and your opponent controls a monster, if you activate Call of the Haunted, and your opponent activates Vanity's Emptiness, you can activate another Call of the Haunted. Also applies if they don't activate Vanity's Emptiness.

If you activate Book of Moon, then Chain Ceasefire, then another Book of Moon, even though it is now face-up, since the target of Book of Moon has been changed and Book of Moon says "that target", it will not change it to face-down Defense Position.

If you send "Quickdraw Synchron" to the Graveyard, this card's Level is reduced by 5. In this case, this card's Level becomes 1. Also, after this effect is applied, if "Star Changer" increases this card's Level by 1, its Level is recalculated. From its original Level 5, its Level is reduced by 5 using its own effect, then its Level is increased by 1 using the effect of "Star Changer". Therefore, this card's Level becomes 1 (5 - 5 + 1)

If a monster is destroyed by battle, any Continuous Effects it has are not applied anymore, even those that activated effects that continuously apply, such as Number 66: Master Key Beetle. In case an effect that activates continuously applies, such as Hiita the Fire Charmer, that effect will resolve without effect.

If a Set card is banished by a card that temporary banishes, it will be banished face-down and return face-down again. If it doesn't banish temporarily, but forever, it will banish it face-up.

If a monster that is Special Summoned from the Extra Deck is temporarily banished, it is still considered Special Summoned from the Extra Deck when it returns.

If Creature Swap is activated and the opponent activates Call of the Haunted to Special Summon Satellarknight Deneb from the Graveyard, the player who triggered Deneb's effect will be the player who activates its effect.

If Player A controls Remove Brainwashing and Player B activates Monster Reborn to Special Summon Sacred Crane from the opponent's Graveyard, Sacred Crane is summoned to Player B's side of the field, and control instantly switches to Player A's side of the field. Sacred Crane is considered Special Summoned to Player A's side of the field, and Player A will activate the effect of Sacred Crane.

If a Fusion/Synchro/Xyz Monster that was properly Summoned is changed to face-down Defense Position, then it's later Flip Summoned, but that Summon is negated, it cannot be Special Summoned from the Graveyard again afterwards.

If Limitover Drive Special Summons Shooting Quasar Dragon, its maximum number of attacks will be 1, BKSS.

Cards that give themselves multiple attacks after destroying an opponent's monster by battle, such as Koa'ki Meiru Bergzak and Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning activate after damage calculation, not at the end of the Damage Step.

If Talaya, Princess of Cherry Blossoms and another Plant-Type monster is on the field that was Special Summoned by Call of the Haunted, then Ojama Delta Hurricane is activated, the other Plant-Type monster will be protected from Hurricane, but since Call of the Haunted applies after the effect resolves, that monster will be destroyed by Call of the Haunted.

Monsters are considered to be battling when the attack is declared, so Rainbow Veil will negate any effects from that point.

For Raidraptor - Rise Falcon, if you attack either a Normal Summoned monster or the Special Summoned monster, you cannot attack the other one, only if you attack the Special Summoned monster can you continue attacking Special Summoned monsters (but then never the Normal Summoned ones)

If you use a card like Snatch Steal, and that monster is then temporarily banished and then returns later, it will go to the controller at the time, then immediately switch to its original owner.

Even if a monster is flipped face-down before the effect resolves, the effects of Qliphorts that make them unaffected by it still applies, as it refers to the original Level of the monster who's effect is on the Chain.

A Wild Monster Appears! checks the original Level of the monsters, so if Cost Down is used, you cannot Speical Summon any monster that has a original Level of 11 or higher.

If you Tribute Set Vampire Dragon, and that monster is later destroyed, its effect will still activate, even if it was flipped face-up later on.

If you reveal Cyber End Dragon with Fusion Conscription, and then you add a Cyber Dragon Core from your Graveyard to your hand (since it's name is treated as Cyber Dragon in the Graveyard"), since you actually added Cyber Dragon Core, you will not be able to Summon it from your hand, but if it's in the Graveyard, you may Summon it since it's name is Cyber Dragon, and you may also activate its effect in the Graveyard.

Fiendish Chain doesn't negate the monster's attack, it prevents it from attacking, as such, it will not stop the attack before the Chain finishes resolving, so if Swift Scarecrow is used as Chain Link 1, and Fiendish Chain as Chain Link 2, Scarecrow will still negate the attack and end the Battle Phase.

Mandatory effects like Atlantean Marksman will activate even if there's no target, however they won't activate if Majesty's Fiend is on the field, or Doomcaliber Knight will not activate while Mask of Restrict is on the field. Also, Sangan will activate if there are no monsters in the Deck, and the Deck will need to be varified by the opponent in this case.

If a card prevents something else that isn't an effect activation, such as Special Summoning, the effects will still activate, but will either resolve without effect, or resolve as much as possible before the part that is prevented applies. For example Guardian Dreadscythe's effect activates while Vanity's Emptiness is face-up, you'll still discard a card, but it won't be Special Summoned.

If Arcana Force VII: The Chariot whose coin flip was Heads destroys D.D. Warrior Lady by battle, and Lady's effect is activated, since the battling monster is not being sent to the Graveyard anymore, Chariot's effect will not be able to activate.

Normally, if a card or effect is activated that lingers after resolving, even if the card that it affects becomes unaffected by card effects, that effect is still applied, however there is an exception, that being when a card affects cards that could potentially be affected later after the resolution of the effect that lingers. For example, Spiritual Beast Apelio activates its effect and later on Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio is Summoned and attacks, where it will then lose the 500 ATK and DEF gained.

If Reasoning or Monster gate excavates a Spirit Monster or a Ritual Beast monster that has already been Special Summoned, it sends them to the Graveyard and the effect ends. Both cards check whether or not that monster can be Normal Summoned, so if it can, it will Special Summon it, but if that monster cannot be Special Summoned, it will be sent to the Graveyard.

If Union Attack affects Gravekeeper's Vassal, it will still be able to inflict effect damage.

If Preparation of Rites adds a Level 7 or lower Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand, then adds a Ritual Spell Card from your Graveyard to your hand, while the effect of your opponent's Shared Ride is applying, your opponent will draw 2 cards.

You cannot Tribute Nekroz of Unicore and Ritual Summon that same Nekroz of Unicore from your Graveyard with the effect of Nekroz Cycle, even if you have another Nekroz monster in your Graveyard.

If Forbidden Dress is used on a monster Summoned by Valoritual Beast Tamer Zefram-Pilica effect, it will not be destroyed during the End Phase, but during the next End Phase, it will be destroyed.

If you activate Call of the Haunted, targeting Petolphin the Noble Spirit Beast, but Mystical Space Typhoon is Chained, destroying Call of the Haunted, you still cannot Special Summon another Petolphin, as a Special Summon was still attempted.

If a "must first be Special Summoned" monster, such as Photon Trasher, is Special Summoned by A Wild Monster Appears! and is later sent to the Graveyard, it CANNOT be Special Summoned again, because it was not Summoned by its own effect.

If Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell negates the activation of Mask Change, you can still activate Mask Change II and Form Change, since they are only treated as a Summon with Mask Change. Similarly, if Umi is negated, you cannot activate A Legendary Ocean, since that card is always treated as Umi.

Ghostrick Dullahan can target a monter with 0 ATK for its effect, it will simply remain 0 though.

Mist Valley Apex Avian can negate both the activations and the effects of Spell/Traps Cards.

If multiple U.A. Powered Jersey are equipped, the double damage does not stack. Similarly, if both players control a Ghostrick Mansion, it will still only halve the damage once.

Multiple Gagagashields do not stack. You can only have a protection effect of that kind as many times as the maximum number of times a card can protect something.

If you have no cards in your Deck, you cannot activate Iron Core of Koa'ki Meiru or Rank-Up-Magic Astral Force's Graveyard effects from your normal draw.

The effect of the Qliphort monsters that makes them unaffected by other monster effects will reapply after negates wears off. It is not the same as the effect with modifies its own stats, which will not reapply.

Blackwing - Nothung the Starlight's mandatory effect will still activate, even if the opponent doesn't control any monsters.

If a Special Summon occurs whilst El Shaddoll Winda is face-up on the field, and the effects of Winda are subsequently negated, once the negation ends, the player has still Special Summoned this turn, and may not do so again.

If you have D/D/D Leonidas and D/D/D D'arc on the field and would take damage, you'll gain instead. This is because D'arc coverts the LP, so you are not taking taking the damage, but rather just gaining it, so Leonidas won't apply.

If Necrovalley is on the field and Baxia, Brightness of the Yang Zing activates its effect that destroys a card and Special Summons, Necrovalley will still negate the entire effect, rather than just one part of the effect.

If you Ritual Summon a Nekroz monster with a Nekroz Ritual Spell Card while you have Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands on the field, then Rivalry of the Warlords is Chained, the Ritual Spell Card will resolve without effect, since there exists no Fairy-Type Nekroz monster. As such, your opponent also does not need to verify your hand either.

If Bujingi Turtle negates an Equip Spell Card, it will stay on the field.

You cannot activate Chimeratech Rampage Dragon on the first turn of the duel, nor in Main Phase 2, since in both cases, you are going to be unable to attack.

Lose 1 Turn and Trishula's on Summon effect, then Book of Moon is Chained, since it's face-down, Lose 1 Turn can't negate it.

If you activate Bubble Illusion and play a Trap Card from your hand, then Malfunction is activated, it will return to the hand.

If a monster that is targeted by Fiendish Chain is flipped face-down with Book of Moon, then later it is destroyed, Fiendish Chain stays on the field.

If Macro Cosmos is on the field and Exciton Knight's effect activates, the cards will not be banished, since Macro Cosmos is destroyed at the same time as they are destroyed, so it can't apply.

If Statue of Anguish Pattern uses its effect, then Forbidden Lance is activated targeting that monster, it will still be destroyed, as it's not treated as a Trap effect, but a monster effect.

Number 47: Nightmare Shark/Inzektor Hopper cannot target a monster with its effect if you cannot conduct your Battle Phase or declare an attack that turn, if that monster that it is targeting cannot attack, nor can you activate its effect during your first turn or during the Main Phase 2. Similarly, you can't activate Mermail Abyssmegalo's effect in any of the same situations as listed above. You also cannot Chain Performage Trapeze Magician to Soul Charge or Number 11: Big Eye (targeting the Big Eye).

If Ring of Destruction destroys a Qliphort monster that was Special Summoned, it will inflict the written damage, as it would no longer be on the field when it's destroyed, so its Continuous Effect doesn't apply anymore.

Chaofeng, Phantom of the Yang Zing Summoned using an EARTH Yang Zing, the opponent cannot use Apoqliphort Towers, as Chaofeng doesn't affect it monsters, but the game as a whole.

Fiendish Chain is negating a monster, then Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force is activated, since you cannot negate a card which is already negated, it will negate Fiendish Chain, leaving the monster it was targeting still with effects, since at the time Numeron Force negated, it was already negated.

If you activate a monster effect on the field such as Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind, then Breakthrough Skill is Chained, then Book of Moon is Chained, then another Breakthrough Skill is Chained, when the Chain resolves, the effect will still resolve, even though it was negated, because at the time the effect of Gale resolves, it will be face-down.

If you activate Re-qliate in the response to a Normal Summon, you may choose NOT to use it right away. Even though it's mandatory, like other Continuous Trap Cards that have effects you may use a any time (or Trigger-like effects that have their condition met), you may choose to activate it when you activate the card itself, or do so at another time.

If Number 105: Battlin' Boxer Star Cestus battles a face-down monster, you can activate its effects. When that monster would be flipped face-up, it will still have its effects negated. If you negate a face-up monster, then later it's flipped face-down however, it will stop negating it, even if it's flipped face-up later.

If a Tribute Summon was negated that used Majiosheldon, Majiosheldon cannot activate its effect the next turn, since the Tribute Summon isn't considered to have occured.

If Number 82: Heartlandraco activates its effect, then declares an attack and Breakthrough Skill is activated, negating its effects, it will still continue to attack, since the lingering effect was already applied.

If Number 13 and Number 31 both activate their effects, the controller chooses which monster that needs to be attacked.

If "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World" is discarded by your opponent's card effect, then Solemn Warning can activated, however it cannot be activated if discarded by your own effect.

If Night Dragolich is on the field and the opponent Summons a monster from the Deck, Double Trap Hole cannot be activated. This is because the card doesn't force the monster in a position when it's Summoned, rather it changes its position, so you can still choose to put it in Attack Position, and if you do so, it will change to Defense Position, but Double Trap Hole only regonizes what the position it was Summoned in was, that being Attack Position.

If Sylvan Charity is used, your opponent doesn't see the order you put them back on top of the Deck.

If an Extra Deck monster such as Gladiator Beast Essedarii that say "must first be Special Summoned" is Special Summoned that way and later sent to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon it again from the Graveyard.

If Superheavy Samurai Benkei attacks a monster with the same ATK as its DEF, then it will be destroyed by battle.

If Royal Decree is on the field along with Rivalry of the Warlords, you can send  Royal Decree to the Graveyard to Special Summon Trap Eater, even if you control a monster with the wrong Type, simply send Trap Eater to the Graveyard. Similarly, if you Fusion Summon Destiny End Dragoon using Prisma on the field while your opponent controls Evilswarm Ophion. The point here being that the effects of Royal Decree and Ophion will again take place afterwards, even though Continuous Effects are able to apply between sequential actions, in these cases however, the procedure to Summon a monster has already been put in place, so they can no longer be prevented. You can only be prevented from initiating such a process, not from completing it once it has already begun.

You can use Fires of Doomsday's Doomsday Tokens for a Tribute Set of a DARK monster. Similarly, Rockstone Warrior's Rockstone Tokens may not be used for a Tribute Set, as that's still considered a Tribute Summon.

If Number 11: Big Eye takes control of Red-Eyes Flare Metal Dragon, neither player will take any damage, as it is no longer "your opponent" that is activating a card.

You can use use cards like Steelswarm Genome, AKA Double Tributers, for a Tribute Set.

If Superior Dragon Magician and Ignight Magician are in the Pendulum Zones and Igknight activates its effect, Superior would destroy itself after Ignight destroys itself, as its Continuous Effect is able to apply before a new one is placed in the Pendulum Zone.

If both players control Geartown, you can Normal Summon Ancient Gear monsters without Tributing. The effects stack.

If Snatch Steal takes control of your monster and Book of Moon flips that monster face-down, it will not return back to the owner. Only temporary control changes, such as Mind Control will the monster return back to the owner again (when it would normally return control that is).

If Toon Kingdom is destroyed, monsters stating "Toon World" on the field is destroyed, destroy this card." are also destroyed, as the card's name was Toon World when it was destroyed.

If both players have 300 LP while Skull Invitation is on the field and Ancient Gear Explosive or Xyz Reflect, the latter of which is negating your own effect, is activated, the opponent would lose as Skull Invitation applies after the effect has resolved.

You cannot activate cards that say they can be used in the Battle Phased during Damage Step, such as Performage Damage Juggler or Ghostrick-Go-Round, even though the Damage Step is a part of the Battle Phase.

If Book of Moon changes a monster to face-down Defense Position that was Special Summoned by Doomkaiser Dragon/Assault Mode, then the effect of Doomkaiser Dragon/Assault Mode is no longer applied. The monster does not have its effects negated and is not destroyed during the End Phase, even if it is later flipped face-up.

If Artifact Durendal's first effect is activated in response to Swords of the Revealing Light, the card will be sent to the Graveyard instead of staying on the field.

If Superheavy Samurai Thief destroys a monster in the Spell & Trap Zone, it cannot Set the card, and it will be sent to the Graveyard instead.

You can activate Red-Eyes Fusion the turn you Normal Set, but not the turn you Special Summon a monster face-down.

If Stellarknight Constellar Diamond is Summoned in response to Reasoning, Reasoning will resolve without effect.

If Infernoid Decatron or Phantom of Chaos copies the effect of Infernoid Patrulea, then uses its effect, it cannot attack that turn since it also copies the conditions attached to the effect. Furthermore, if Number 69: Heraldry Crest were to target Tiras, Keeper of Genesis, the first condition would not be copied, as that is a standalone condition, rather than one attached to an effect

If Speedroid Ohajikid Summons Speedroid Red-Eyed Dice with its effect, Dice cannot activate its effect, as Ohajikid immediately Synchro Summons using that monster. Furthermore, you cannot activate Ohajikid if you cannot Synchro Summon using the monster you Summoned with.

Cards that activate in damage calculation, such as Kuriboh cannot be activated during a second Chain in damage calculation, for example of Honest is activated, then Divine Wrath discards Dandylion, Kuriboh would not be able to activate anymore.

If a face-down banished card is returned to the Graveyard, it becomes face-up again since cards in the Graveyard cannot be face-down.

If you Normal Set a monster, you cannot activate Torrential Tribute, since that isn't considered a Summon. Also, you cannot Tribute Sheep Tokens from Scapegoat, since they can't be used for Tributes.

If Daigusto Spheerz/Number 13: Embodiment of Crime attacks a monster that also reflects battle damage, it won't be reflected again, it can only be done once.

Karma Cut will not banish other Trap monsters than the target since they are not monsters in the Graveyard.

If a player’s Life Points reach 0 during the resolution of a card effect or a player is required to draw and cannot, the Duel immediately ends. If a card’s special victory condition, such as that of Exodia the Forbidden One is achieved during the resolution of a card effect, the Duel does not immediately end. If the victory condition is still true after the current effect on the Chain resolves completely, the Duel ends.

You can banish Token as costs, for example for Unibird's effect.

If a monster such as Relinquished or Inzektor Dragonfly equips a monster by its effect, then it has its effects negated, it can no longer keep the Equip Cards anymore, since that is tied to that monster's effects, and as such, any monster equipped to it by its own effect will be destroyed by game mechanics. However, negating a monster that was equipped by a monster by its own effect (or some other effect that isn't its own effect) will not destroy the Equip Cards.

If Greydle Eagle is equipped to Apoqliphort Towers and is destroyed, it will not destroy Towers as that's still considered a Spell effect while it's equipped, not a monster effect. Similarly, Royal Decree will negate Call of the Haunted's effect that destroys the monster as well.

You cannot activate "Book of Eclipse" if the only monsters on the field are Defense Position Tokens. If there are other monsters on the field and "Book of Eclipse" is legally activated, "Book of Eclipse" will switch Attack Position tokens into Defense Position but will not flip them face-down as Tokens cannot be flipped face-down.

Continuous Effects of cards like Armades, Keeper of Boundaries that state "If this card attacks or is attacked, your opponent cannot activate cards or effects until the end of the Damage Step." stop applying if the monster is destroyed by battle, so if a Frightfur Sheep (implying both are in Attack Position with the same ATK) attacks another Frightfur Sheep, both can activate their effects in the Graveyard, the turn player as Chain Link 1, then the opponent as Chain Link 2.

With cards like Phantom of Chaos and Pseudo-Space, you still have to pay the costs of the effects.

If Vanity's Emptiness is chained to Reasoning, Reasoning will resolve without effect.

If Constellar Pleiades activates its effect, targeting a Set Spell/Trap Card, then the targeted is Chained, it's Compulsory Evacuation Device, CED will not return to the hand, because the card is determined to go to the Graveyard when it resolves, not the hand, so the card will be sent there instead. You also cannot target a Spell/Trap Card that is already activated with Pleiades and if a card like Call of the Haunted is activated in response, it will return to the hand, since it normally would stay on the field, and you can also activate Pleiades in response to the activation as well.

If Bujintei Susanowo which is boosted by Honest attacks and destroys Colossal Fighter, if Colossal Fighter Special Summons itself again, then if you were to endless loop attacking that monster and the opponent Special Summoning it again, that would cause an illegal loop and the attacker would have to stop attacking.

If Stellarknight Triverr is Xyz Summoned, but the Summon is negated by Solemn Warning, the condition never applies, so you can still Special Summon non-Tellarknight monsters for the rest of that turn.

If you control "Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters" and you perform a Synchro Summon of a Spellcaster-Type Synchro Monster sending all your face-up Spellcaster-Type monsters to the Graveyard, since there is a period in which you do not control a Spellcaster-Type monster when you perform the Synchro Summon, "Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters" is destroyed. Also, if you control "Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters" and you perform an Xyz Summon of a Spellcaster-Type Xyz Monster using all your face-up Spellcaster-Type Monsters as Xyz Materials, since there is a period in which you do not control a Spellcaster-Type monster when you perform the Xyz Summon, "Secret Sanctuary of the Spellcasters" is destroyed.

If you control for example a Psychic-Type monster and Rivalry of the Warlords is up, then Reasoning may be played as long as you have a non-Psychic-Type monster in your Deck. If the monster is then a non-Psychic-Type when revealed, it gets sent to the Graveyard and the effect ends.

If Black-Winged Dragon uses its effect that reduces the ATK of the opponent's monster and inflicts damage on a monster with 1000 ATK while it has 2 counters on it, it will only inflict 1000 damage, as only 1000 ATK was reduced, not 1400.

You cannot activate cards that would draw if you have no cards left in the Deck, however cards like Reload may still be activated while you have no cards in the Deck, as they put cards in the Deck before drawing.

If there are monsters in all 5 Monster Zones when a monster that has been banished temporarily would return to the field, that monster is not returned to the field and it is sent to the Graveyard, also if a card that is banished temporarily is returned to the field, in most cases it is not affected by the effects that were affecting it before it was banished and it is returned in the battle position it was in as it was before, if face-down or face-up included.

If, at the timing a card effect can be activated, that card has been returned to the Deck, in most cases that effect cannot be activated, for example Dandylion has been discarded as a cost to activate Raigeki Break, and the effect of The Transmigration Prophecy that is activated in a chain, so that the discarded Dandylion is returned to the Deck, the effect of “Dandylion” does not activate. Similarly, when you activate Mystical Space Typoon and target a Set Call of the Haunted, which is then Chained and targets Satellarknight Altair, Altair's effect cannot be activated as it is destroyed by Call of the Haunted and sent to the Graveyard before it can activate.

If counters that can only be placed on a particular card like itself are placed on a card that has its effects negated, those counters are removed. If counters are placed on another card by an effect that places counters, even if the effects of that card are negated, the counters are not removed.

If a card like Phantom Of Chaos that copies the effect of another monster leaves the field, that effect stops applying. As such, if it gains the effect of Dark Magician of Chaos, it won't be banished either. Also, if it would equip itself by an effect such as Vylon Pentachloro, it will be destroyed by game mechanics after it resolves since it no longer has its effects.

If you target Kozmoll Wickedwitch with Book of Moon, then activate Wickedwitch's effect, it loses its protection effect, so if you attack it, it will be destroyed by battle as well. Also, if you activate Wickedwitch's effect, then Book of Moon is Chained, it will keep its protection effect, as it has yet to resolve its effect, so it not lose it yet.

Normally "both those targets" and "all 3 of them" and related mean that if any of the targets are incorrect at resolution, it will not be able to resolve that part of the effect and it will resolve without effect at that point, however making it unaffected by an effect will still not affect it, so if it say something like "destroy both those targets", if one was unaffected by card effects, the other one is destroyed still.

PSY-Frame Omega can return face-down banished cards, but they will be turned face-up since cards cannot be face-down in the Graveyard.

Cards that force you to go to battle calculation also prevent cards from being activated in damage calculation, as it is treated as being that while the effect is resolving, and as you cannot activate effects at that point, you cannot in damage calculation either.

You will only draw 1 card from Maxx "C" if Rescue Rabbit or a PSY-Framegear's effect is used, but you will draw 2 if Mithra the Thunder Vassal's effect is used, you will draw 2. This is because the Special Summons happen simultaneously in the first examples, but the "and if you do" indicates it happens after each other. (01/05/16)

If you attack Tragodia with Utopia Ray Victory, it will not gain any ATK due to the first effect still physically happening before the second effect, thereby negating the effects of Tragodia, making its ATK 0.

If you attack Tragodia with Utopia Ray Victory, it will gain the ATK it currently has. This is because of the "also" conjunction, which makes both happen at the same time, and therefor the ATK is gained at the same time as its effects are negated.

So... which is it?

Volcanic Scattershot will on activate even when sent with Blaze Accelerator (at least on DN, figure out how your Head Judge rules at events), since its Ruling conflicts with the idea of the Archetype, and also how the card is written if it were to be written with PSCT.

what does the bolded mean?

The first one. I most have forgotten to remove the second one, which was pointed out to be wrong.

Royal Command is to be played following its most recent TCG text. This means that it will only negate the FLIP Effect of FLIP Effect monsters, and no other effects that monster has.

This is outdated (and wrong, since YCS judges in europe were doing otherwise)
