Recommended Posts

Refer to this thread for any specific information regarding the policies of the CC Monthly.

Theme

Design a monster card based off a Pop Culture character.

(Any characters from an anime/manga series, as well as movies, non-anime/manga media and so forth are fair game)

Aside from your entries being required to be of a PC character AND conform to Advanced standards, you have free reign over what you can do here.

Deadline

May 23rd, 2015 @ 11:00 pm Hawaiʻi Standard Time (GMT -10:00)

If you need help determining what time it'll be in your area when deadline hits, use this converter.
(Select USA - Hawaii - Honolulu in the "convert to" area)

For your safety, I highly recommend that you turn in your entries when it reaches 11:00 pm in your respective timezones, to avoid confusion; unless you live in the Polynesian islands or another location between the dateline and Hawaiʻi (but I do not foresee this to occur).

Entry Fee

None, you just need to state your interest + provide an entry card with an appropriate explanation.

Rules

1. Standard YCM and Custom Cards rules apply in this section. Please remember to abide by / follow them in this contest.

2. Written Cards will be accepted, however if you opt to do this; do not use the cardmaker to generate a pictureless image.

Just type it out in text format.

3. When posting a card, make sure that you have its lore posted beneath, so it is easier for the judges to read your effect.

(If you do not post your card lore underneath, you WILL be penalized; all you have to do is copy+paste it and you're fine)

Also make sure that you post it properly using the cardmaker.

4. You are allowed to make edits to your card until the deadline, HOWEVER you should have already designed the card as a final product when posting.

5. The usage of Fake Types / Attributes, as well as DIVINE, Divine-Beast and Creator God is expressly forbidden.
You are expected to design a card that adheres to the current standards set by Konami (usage of the existing 23 legal Types + 6 Attributes).

Also remember to abide by the max. 5000 ATK/DEF rules for original stats.

6. When submitting your entry, you should give a short description of what your intent was during the design process.
It'll help the judges to better understand your card + grade accordingly.

The idea here is that you design a card based on the character of your choosing, but make sure that it's properly done.

Prizing

1st - 3000 points + membership in custom group for a month.
2nd - 2000 points
3rd -  1000 points

Judges

 1. Myself

If you're interested in judging, make sure you've passed the judge exam at least once (either during Aix/Saber's control of it, or under mine).
Preferably, you should've passed it more than once to improve your core + make sure you genuinely understand what to look for, but is not a requirement.

Scoring

Please refer to the discussion thread for the standard rubric that will be used for this tournament. (Linked at top of thread; or stickied)

If you have any questions, either post in this thread or send me a PM.

Entering

EDIT:

Entry Posted
XjHsjeR.jpg
If this card is sent from the Deck to the Graveyard while you control a face-up Level 2 or lower Aqua-Type: Special Summon this card. If this card is Special Summoned, target 1 monster your opponent controls with 2300 ATK or lower and 1 Aqua-Type monster you control: Switch control of both monsters, and if you do, their battle positions cannot be changed. You can only use this effect of "Hypnotoad" once per turn.

Meant to work with frogs (mostly swap frog), cause hypnotoad and all. I would've been an idiot not to do that. Anyway, a lot of frog cards seem to focus on control (flip flip, unifrog, des croaking) so I wanted to do something that still fits the whole hypnosis thing. I'm just worried I made it too generic and abusable, buuut let's see how this goes.
I just finished mine a couple hours ago, so I understand that some of you still have them going.

Don't worry about it; you just need it in by the deadline.

Okay, then I will definitely enter.

Also, a quick question; if the character you are choosing has a weapon or something that makes the character, well, the character, can you make two cards (one of the character and another of said weapon)?

Here is my entry:
307ykq8.png
2 Level 7 Dragon-Type monsters
This card's attribute is also treated as the attributes of the Xyz Material attached to this card. You can only activate 1 effect of "Elder Dragon of Legend, Spyro" once per turn. ① While this card is treated as FIRE: Detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and target 1 monster your opponent controls; destroy that card. ② While this card is treated as WATER: Detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and target 1 monster your opponent controls; that card cannot attack or change battle position until your next Standby Phase. ③ While this card is treated as EARTH: This card gains 500 DEF. ④ While this card is treated as LIGHT: Detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 1 Level 4 "Dragon of Legend" from your hand or Graveyard.

I originally wanted to stray away from my old favorite, because I knew that it would be a monster of an effect. However, I couldn't stay away, and I decided to take an idea that I had long ago about having the Dragon Guardians directly give a normal Spyro monster effects, make Spyro Xyz and play around with those possibilities.

The "treated as the attributes of the attached material" clause was added to ① shorten the effect a bit and ② represent Spyro embodying the element he is wielding at that time.

The Fire effect is basic; fire destroys stuff. Water is more based on Ice, an element Spyro controls in the Legend of Spyro franchise, effectively freezing an opponent's monster from battle for a full turn. Earth was straightforward as well, as many Earth monsters in the game throw about larger defense stats. I took some liberties with the Light effect, as Spyro harnesses Lightning in the games. "Lightning is quick, so lets make the effect speed up the deck a little," was the thought process here.

An immediate complaint I already here is, "But Rene, this card can be easily made using the Dragon Rulers, and then they get sent to the graveyard to be summoned again!" But really, who will play this over Big Eye or Dracosack? I see no hands up. Yes you can use Dragon Rulers to make Spyro, but to be honest, that was my goal. The Dragon Rulers are the closest thing to the Dragon Guardians that Yu-Gi-Oh! has right now. The Dragon Rulers (or any other L7 Dragons, of course) pass on their knowledge to Spyro so that he can become more powerful...for a short time.

Also, a slight aside: The card number is actually the last 8 digits of "The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon"s PS3 ISBN number.

Entry coming up.

IQtE68b.jpg
You can target 1 non-Xyz Effect Monster your opponent controls or in your opponent's Graveyard;  this card's name and original ATK become that monster's name and current ATK, and this card's effect becomes that monster's original effect. These changes last until the end of this turn. You can only use this effect of "Satori of the Third Eye" once per turn.

Satori here is known for being a Touhou boss with one of the greatest variety in attacks. Why? One of her signature abilities is copying the attacks of characters from past games. Depending on who you're playing and which character your assist is, you might be in for a ball of a time.

So how does this translate into Yugioh terms? Simple! Taking one half of Genom-Heritage's effect. Satori has the ability to copy any monster the opponent currently has or has placed in their Graveyard, taking up their ATK, name, and effect. The original copy stays intact, unlike Genom-Heritage, and Satori can only copy non-Xyz Monsters to avoid strange Material shenanigans. A hard OPT clause is established in the case of multiple Satori triggering off each other.

It may seem particularly exploitative, but it's all limited by what the opponent is playing and what is available at the time. This is something you cannot completely control yourself.
