chairman ali Posted July 8, 2015 Report Share Posted July 8, 2015 kinda hard to decide 1: aesthetically pleasing but after looking at it for a bit you start to see the unnecessary blurring (which really gives way to LQ results). A lot of the elements take your focus away from what is supposed to be the focal. Cool idea, bad execution. 2: too dark. 3: Needs to distinguish the focal more. 4: Needs sharpening. Unnecessary text. 5: I like this one. 6: I like the textures but the blue tones on the left, grey value on the right, dragged the whole thing down. Nice try tho. I'd say keep at it and experiment with that style. 7: review basic fundamentals. For now, stick to one subject; will make it easier. 8: unnecessary text & under-contrasted. ------------------------------------------------ #5 gmv. Negative space is all well and good, but so is balance. As it is, it's hard for my eye to wander around the whole piece.However, for the theme of "freestyle," I think the piece that fits that the best is #1. Even though freestyle is all about doing your own thing, to me, when I see that word, I just prefer the more unique pieces.I think #2 needs a bit more light distribution to draw the eye somewhere other than the center. As it is, the composition's fairly dull.I like #3's design--the usage of droplets and lines combined with the fragmented appearance. Gives it some emotion. But imo there's not enough light/dark contrast. The droplets really aren't that dark, and I just tend to prefer contrast pics in general.#4 is a bit too murky. There aren't enough bright areas imo. Even that hat could be lightened up a bit. As it is, it also feels a bit concentrated on one portion of the piece, so perhaps lightening the text could also have been considered.#6 is an overall interesting piece, though again, a huge fan of contrast, so the fairly flat variations on the left side bugs me a bit.#7 makes good use of symmetry and asymmetry, however, I wish they had changed the Jolteon on the right a bit more to make it stand out from the other one more, give more of a message. It would also help if I felt they were more "grounded" in the pic.#8 This one is pretty interesting overall. However, the text on the right feels a bit...idk it takes away from the overall piece imo. Thar Posted July 9, 2015 Report Share Posted July 9, 2015 I voted for #4, cause it's the most original given the fact that it's pretty much a fractal in the form of a portrait, considering both fractals AND portraits are amazing individually, so this concept is a very interesting combination and also very easy on the eyes.
