For as long as humans have lived on this earth, there have been demons that seek to rule over them. Monsters from the depths of their own realm - be it called Hell, Nether, or whatever label we humans place upon it - who see humans as nothing more than playthings, and as such seek to ruin, control, and end lives as they see fit. If left on their own, they could conquer the human race in a matter of days, and the world would spiral into absolute catastrophe. Of course, in this day and age, not many believe in these monsters anymore. So how have they not taken over the human race? Simple.
For as long as demons have sought to rule over humans, there have been an exceptional percentile of humans who are able to fight back. Demon hunters, who live for the sole purpose of destroying the demon threat wherever it is present, and who keep the world in peaceful ignorance by never revealing the secret of the monsters that live so close and yet so impossibly far away. By drinking the blood of fallen demons, these demon hunters gain amazing power and become fully capable of fighting back. But once you become a demon hunter, there's no going back...
The first thing to have happened was during an encounter with an A-Class demon, when Ferris had deliberately recorded the entire fight, and sent the footage to every news network in the states. The video and the news spread like wildfire, but the DHG - with government assistance - was able to contain the viral news while the former's cleanup crews did a sweeping cleanup of the entire nation, wiping and altering memories as needed. The process was a long and tough one, but eventually things had gotten cleaned up, and the news died out. However, the American branch's struggles were far from over.
Not long afterwards, the emergence of another A-Class demon, and an unknown source (presumably Ferris) subsequently giving it directions into the DHG's hidden headquarters, led to a final play by the branch's former leader - Oculus - wherein the base was wired with every explosive they could get their hands on while Oculus kept the demon in check. In the end, the base was destroyed, but the demon was killed...and Oculus with it. Control of the American branch was afterwards given to Anton Siedrich, otherwise known as Arsenal. Under Arsenal's leadership and the capabilities of his subordinates, HQ was rebuilt in a matter of weeks. Just in time too. Another few days and the American branch's greatest struggle would have happened with no base of operations to plan from.
Chernabog. A massive S-Class demon; the 13th to ever appear in the DHG's 1,500 years of service, and the first to emerge in the American branch's territory. Many lives - including that of Ferris, and many hunters from other national branches sent to assist in killing Chernabog - were lost in the fight against Chernabog. Even worse was that once again, news spread like wildfire throughout the USA. The cleanup crew was put back to work, dealing with the hardest job they'd ever tackled. Meanwhile, trouble was brewing for a different national branch.
DHG Russia, with their national headquarters staged in Moscow, had problems of their own now. Local wildlife was exhibiting the same taint that defined demons and demon hunters, both plants and animals. Suspecting something bad was about to happen, the Russian branch leader requested international assistance. No other branches were able to comply at the time. Wouldn't you know it though; something bad did happen. Russian headquarters was sacked in a series of attacks by demons, the final attack ending in the death of all but three of the branch's hunters, the disappearance of the branch leader, and most importantly, the destruction of important research notes that reportedly had led to an amazing discovery that could destroy the demon threat once and for all. However, now other branches were able to send assistance. And assistance the Russian branch got.
Led by global DHG leader Celio Bonaventura, otherwise Corvino, small groups of two to three hunters have been brought from all of the DHG's largest national branches to aid Russia in recovering from the attacks, finding their missing leader, and of course, finding the lost research and what this crucial discovery was.
As stated in previous correspondences, I am of the opinion that we as an organization should consider the option of taking on a more public role. In the face of such media events as the Chernabog Incident, it is becoming impossible for us to survive and maintain secrecy in our operations. The people want to know what these creatures are, and no amount of covering up is going to change that.
On that note, the cover-up operation for the Chernabog Incident is progressing slowly. I have not allowed my personal feelings on the matter to interfere with how I handle the situation, but the fact of the matter is this was a massive event and our information containment procedures failed in a spectacular manner. That said, we have at the very least been able to convince Fox News to broadcast the official story: that there was a large scale release of anesthesia which led to widespread hallucinations. This does explain the number of missing persons and the damage quite well, but most people quite frankly are not buying it. The American Branch will continue to press this story, until such time as we receive orders to cease the cover up operation or I determine that the operation has proven successful.
National Director for DHG United States of America.
P.S. Attached is the complete report of the Chernabog Incident. I am certain you will find its implications disturbing.
Time: 13:23 - 23:50
Casualties: Currently unknown, but estimated in excess of 100,000 dead with approximately 400,000 unaccounted for at this time.
Property Damage: Estimated in excess of 2.7 Billion USD.
Incident Details: At 13:00 the Houston City Director submitted a request for assistance to DHG Mobile National Headquarters in dealing with a containment issue. A response was organized, and Response Force Alpha dispatched; consisting of National Director Arsenal, DHGUSA Blaze, DHGUSA Fissure, DHGUSA Memoriam, DHGBD Verloreneskind, DHGUSA Gemini, DHGUSA Blackheart, DHGUSA Uplink, and DHGUSA The Martyr. At 13:15, Response Force Alpha linked up with City Defense Force Upsilon and proceeded to the intersection of Interstate Highway 45 and the East Texas Freeway (roughly the geometric center of Houston, Texas).
At 13:20, visual confirmation was made of the presence of a group of rogue hunters dubbed “The Ironclads” led by former Director of Research and Development Ferris, along with a large number of demons classed D through B, with two A-class demons present. Ferris herself could not be immediately located. At 13:23, the engagement was begun. Response Force Alpha and City Defense Force Upsilon engaged the rogue hunters and demons, who seemed to have formed a partnership, in a mix of ranged and melee combat. At 13:25, National Director Arsenal called for Protocol S22-B, “Cry Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War,” and called for engagement of the enemy with all available force. City Defense Forces Alpha through Gamma responded to reinforce the existing hunters present.
By 14:00, a sufficient number of demons had been eliminated to allow for a clear view of the center of the enemy’s formation. Ferris was observed standing before a “portal” into which she cast a number of severed demon limbs, one human heart, and the head of a freshly slain goat. If other items were thrown into the portal, they were not observed. DHGUSA Fissure, DHGUSA Blaze, and DHGUSA Gemini directly engaged Ferris shortly thereafter. Clouds were observed gathering in the sky. At 14:01, the gathering clouds had formed a storm equivalent to a Category 1 Hurricane. At 14:02, the “portal” widened and the S-Class Demon, identified as “Chernabog” throughout the remainder of this report, emerged along with significant demonic reinforcements. All DHG personnel were called back to regroup, while further reinforcements were called for.
The storm increased in strength to a Category 2 Equivalent. At 14:03, Containment Protocol 66-a was initiated and a perimeter was formed around the Site of Emergence at 1.5km. Evacuation of the Houston Metropolitan Area was initiated. The storm reached its ultimate strength of a category 3 equivalent. At 14:10, Chernabog fully emerged from the portal and began moving further into the city. At 14:11, the containment perimeter was broken. From 14:11:13 through 16:42, all available DHG personnel in the Houston area engaged in a chase of the demonic horde. Civilian casualties began at 14:30.
At 16:42, all DHG personnel from the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Missouri arrived in Houston and, as per orders of National Director Arsenal, engaged the demons with all possible force. A number of “The Ironclads” were also observed fighting the demons, including Ferris herself. The full-scale engagement lasted until 19:16, at which time the demonic forces were corralled in George Bush Park. A standoff between the DHGUSA and the demonic forces was sustained until 21:00, with neither side making an aggressive move. At 20:33, the “portal” at the Site of Emergence was closed and the site declared contained. At 21:00, an A-Class demon which identified itself as “The Envoy of Chernabog” emerged and attempted to sway the present hunters towards its master’s side. At 21:01, it was annihilated by a sustained 15 second volley of gunfire. Hostilities resumed immediately.
At 22:50, Chernabog emerged at the front lines and was directly engaged by all present DHGUSA forces and the remaining members of “The Ironclads.” At 23:32, Chernabog was brought down by a final shot from National Director Arsenal with a Mk1 Personal Gauss Cannon. His intended target was Ferris. By 23:40, the remaining demonic forces were slain and the site was declared contained. At 23:41, 17 News Vans and Crews from various national news services arrived, and the DHGUSA personnel were ordered out of the area to avoid association with the destruction.
At 23:43, it was confirmed that they were not in fact news personnel, but rather mercenaries under the employ of “The Ironclads.” Ferris was observed attempting to consume all of the blood from Chernabog’s corpse, and died of an overdose of Demonic Taint before DHGUSA personnel could resecure the site. By 23:50, all personnel associated with “The Ironclads” were apprehended, and the site was declared contained. At 00:01, actual news personnel arrived on scene and the cover up operation began.
Demon Involved: Due to the complex nature of this event, only the leader of the demonic forces present is recorded in this report. For reports of the lesser demonic entities encountered, see Documents CI-1 through CI-57.
Destructive Capability: S+
Range: A (Melee) S+ (Ranged)
Weight: Unknown, estimated in excess of 1000 Metric Tons.
Chernabog is currently the single largest demon encountered by the DHG in recorded history, but thankfully responsible for the smallest total area of destruction caused by an S-class demon on record. This is believed to be due to the urban area in which it emerged having proved both a distraction suitable to prevent its quickly moving on and sufficient cover for the DHGUSA to engage it from with relative safety. Chernabog was observed toppling large buildings with ease, and produced tremors equivalent to a magnitude 6.2 earthquake with each step. These tremors were observed being produced at up to a magnitude 8 quake when the demon stomped.
The demon was also observed with a great deal of control over the weather, producing a storm equivalent to a Category 3 Hurricane which persisted throughout the engagement. This control of weather was also demonstrated through its ability to produce lightning seemingly at will from its body, change the precipitation even in paradoxical ways (such as making fire rain from the skies), and spawn cyclones equivalent to F-3 Tornados. The demon’s hide was also exceptionally tough, and only damaged by the highest caliber of weapons available. It is believed that without the use of the experimental Mk1 Personal Gauss Cannon, the demon may not have been possible to slay.
Addendum: I’ll be damned if anyone goes on record saying that the Mk 1 was the only way we could have slain it. DHGUSA Fissure was observed striking the demon with sufficient strength to shatter the bones in its right hand, DHGUSA The Martyer and DHGUSA Gemini were able to cut into its flesh with their claws, and DHGUSA Blaze proved she could produce fire of sufficient temperature to burn the demon’s skin. I have no doubt that with or without the Mk 1, Chernabog would not have made it out of George Bush Park. - National Director Arsenal, DHGUSA.
I send this report due to some unfortunate circumstances that have been reported to me from the Demon Hunter Guild's national branch headquarters in Russia. As of two weeks ago, on the 18th of November, 2015, the branch's total population was 106 hunters, including National Director Mozg. However, according to reports, this number has been reduced to no more than three hunters, and Director Mozg has gone missing along with research he promised would be most interesting and beneficial to us all. Added to the reports we received in mid-September of Russian wildlife adopting the demonic taint, it is a cause for great concern, and there may well be something grand threatening the Russian headquarters.
Which is why I send this report. If you have received this report, it means that yours is one of the nations with the highest population of hunters, and as such I shall request that you send a small handful of hunters to Moscow for the purpose of assisting in getting the Russian branch back on its feet, and finding our missing National Director Mozg and his research. Were I to presume all branches that receive this report comply - and I rather hope they are all able to do so - you shall not need to send any more than three hunters. I look forward to a swift reply, ideally with the news that reinforcements shall be on the way. I will be waiting in Moscow.
International Director Corvino
National Director Arsenal, I would like to request that, should you be able to send hunters our way, you not send us the experiments called Blackheart or Gemini. While their abilities would no doubt be useful in these missions, I would prefer the hearts and bodies working here remain as far from a demon's as possible.
2: I'm a pretty chill host, so if I say something's wrong with something in the RP, odds are I've got a reason.
3: I've been RPing for a long time and can spot a cliche from a mile away. Please try to avoid these when possible when applying your character (though I do understand that sometimes there's no avoiding them).
4: I'm all for conflict IC; conflict is what moves a plot, after all. However, let's keep it IC. RPers having beef with one another OOC kills an RP faster than a bullet to the brain.
5: Be cool like the Fonz.
6: When in doubt, refer to rules 1-5. If still in doubt, ask me :)
7: I reserve the right to add, remove, or modify rules at my discretion. I will never do this without notifying you.

Once demon blood enters one's veins, their fate is sealed as all changes immediately take place. Aside from being granted superhuman powers and attributes, there are some other changes due to the human body taking on the demonic taint. For one, an immense healing factor enables a broken bone to heal by the end of the day; small cuts and minor burns heal almost immediately. This healing factor is how hunters avoid dying almost instantly when fighting a demon. In many cases, one's personality can also be altered by the taint. There are also changes that happen on the outside of the body.
Most notably, 100% of tainted bodies have the irises of their eyes turn a bright red, regardless of their former color. In a fair few cases, other changes can occur that bring the human's appearance slightly closer to a demon's (slight reddening of the skin, sharpening of the fingernails/toenails into claws, etc.). In some rare cases, one's skeletal structure may even change, causing the tainted to grow horns or even wings. However, as stated, once demon blood enters and taints one's body, there's no going back.
The demonic taint is permanent on human flesh. However, human blood filters out this taint over time. The tainted body is unable to cope with "clean" blood, and as such fresh demon blood is required regularly to avoid a very painful death. While the side effects of not drinking fresh demon blood are nothing major at first, they can become very serious problems if left unchecked. Based on centuries of thorough study by the DHG (Demon Hunter Guild), the withdrawl symptoms, in the order they appear, are listed below.
24 hours: Muscles throughout the body from the shoulders down begin to ache.
36 hours: Headaches begin.
48 hours: Aching and headaches intensify to physically painful levels.
72 hours: Fatigue and constant feeling of dehydration kick in.
5 days: Fatigue and aches intensify to near-debilitating levels. In many cases, the victim becomes delirious; this can sometimes be permanent.
6 days: Changes brought on by the demon blood begin to reverse. This includes reversion of appearance and personality, and loss of powers. Fatigue and aches intensify to crippling levels. In some cases, part of the body may become paralyzed, and most of the time this paralysis is permanent.
7 days: A very gruesome and painful death wherein the tainted body violently rejects the now-untainted blood until none remains.
Studies are underway as to why human blood filters out the demon taint, and why only blood fresh from the source nourishes this taint.
The common stereotype of a demon appearance as a hulking red-skinned monstrosity with horns, wings, and fire isn't entirely inaccurate; this sums up the appearance of the average demon quite well, actually. Demons on average are about twice the size of an average human, but their size can range anywhere from five feet to being large enough to be seen over entire buildings. However, this won't always be the case. All demons have an inherent ability to take on a form that perfectly resembles a human; one could be best friends with a demon and not even know it. Typically, the size of the demon's human form and their true form are proportional.
However, not all demons have power over fire. In fact, DHG records seem to indicate that a demon for nearly anything has popped up at one time or another. They do all have a few basic powers in common, which are listed below.
Demonic Taint: The blood of a demon carries a most peculiar "taint" that can grant humans immense power should one drink it, including almost every basic demon power. But the cost is quite dear...
Human Form: A demon's ability to disguise him/herself as a human is how they operate in secrecy. This is the only base power humans cannot gain by drinking demon blood, seeing as they are already in a human form.
Demon Sense: This "sixth sense" allows demons to detect one another in a way similar to "smelling" the demonic taint. Demon hunters use this ability to detect their targets, but since the hunters themselves are also tainted, the reverse is also true.
TF: Shorthand for "Tainted Force", this refers to a demon's (or hunter's) ability to tap into the taint within their body and apply it to reality in a manner than changes from person to person. Fortunately, using this ability does not actually expend power in any way, though it's possible for hunters to enhance their TF temporarily by consuming high quantities of demon blood in a short period of time. It should be noted that it is possible to "overdose" on the taint, which will cause the heart to explode, followed by death almost immediately after.
The DHG has also taken the time to classify demons using a system of nine different Classes, based on their power. Commonly called the Mephisto Scale, it is the go-to reference for figuring out how powerful a demon is.
G-Class: If F-Class demons are lesser demons, G-Class probably don't even qualify as demons at all. The only common trait these little guys have with their kin is that their blood carries the taint; these sub-demons don't even have Tainted Forces or the power to disguise their tiny red, winged forms. A few G-Class demons are usually stored in DHG buildings for emergency blood supplies, but in the case of the Russian national branch, it seems the captive G-Classes have escaped during the attacks.
F-Class: The lowest Class of demon. However, even an F-Class demon can be deadly. Typically, these guys have TFs that are either ineffective or do nothing at all. Most F-Class demons are about the size of a human, even in their true form.
D-Class: This is about where the average demon sits, and coincides roughly with the powers of demons as seen in some horror movies. It's not recommended to fight a D-Class or higher demon if you don't carry the taint.
C-Class: Things get dangerous here. A C-Class demon's TF passively affects the world around him to a small extent; a fear-based C-Class demon may leave everyone he passes feeling panicky for some reason, for eample. From this point onward, it's pretty much required to carry the taint if you want to fight a demon and live to tell the tale. The vast majority of demons are C-Class or lower.
B-Class: B-Class demons tend to be pretty huge in their true forms, about the height of a small house and with power to match. Those with the taint can smell a B-Class demon pretty much from a mile away, but fighting one alone isn't suggested. Many disasters - natural or otherwise - can be chalked up to a B-Class demon simply going about his business.
A-Class: An A-Class demon tends to appear once or twice a year, but the DHG tends to drop what they're doing once they're informed one has arrived. Capable of destroying entire cities on its lonesome, an A-Class demon is to be feared, even by hunters.
S-Class: In the DHG's 1,500 years of existence, there have only been thirteen cases of an S-Class demon appearing. Each and every one involved immense disasters. Bearing immense true forms, the emergence of an S-Class demon immediately becomes the DHG's top priority as soon as it's discovered, and every capable fighter is sent after it. Not all of them make it out either.
X-Class: Purely a theoretical class. Following patterns observed in increases of power levels between classes, just the emergence of an X-Class demon would be catastrophic. It actually using its Tainted Force would be some biblical-level destruction, and killing it - if even possible - would take up most of the DHG's resources. Letting it roam around for even a day would be global enslavement at worst.
Over time, the DHG has spread and become a global (albeit very underground) organization. They have a branch in any given nation, state, province, and sometimes even cities, but the global branch is located in Rome, Italy. At this point in time, the DHG's Russian headquarters is located in Moscow, its total members count in at approximately 52,800 hunters across the nation (only three of which remain from the attacks on the Moscow base), and the leader of the national branch is a hunter codenamed Mozg who has since gone missing.
