Casual Decks Section

Recommended Posts

Oooooooor

You can just say in the OP that the deck is intentionally gimmicky, and that you are looking for ways to improve the deck WHILE RETAINING THE GIMMICK.

This is a thing that is already in the rules for the section.

If you specifically state any restrictions you want in the OP, those who provide critique need to abide by them. If not, then it is their problem, not yours.

Did that twice, no results at all. I personally like FinalDan's idea.

You know, TC... There is a big difference between a Deck being "gimmicky", and a Deck that is just a pile of random cards.

A deck can be weird as funk, sure, but it should at least have a consistent means of achieveing whatever it's win condition is. Hell, even if you explain the FTK/OTK/whatever in the OP, it gives the rest of us some insight as to what you are going for.

Another problem is, as I've said time and again, competitive and casual are not mutualyl exclusive.

Even gimmicky decks should be optimized, as opposed to being left just totally inconsistent gimmicks. Like running Hieratic Ultimaya with only Synchros, despite the need for Xyz. And there are competitive decks where people make similar mistakes, like Extra Deckless Qli.

As said before, people must abide by the guidelines you state on your OP (within reason) and that should suffice. If you are not getting the amount of activity desired when posting a deck at a section dedicated to all Yugioh deck-making, then I don't see how dividing the audience even further would fix it. People can go into that section looking for something in specific and bump into something interesting they didn't expect, and that is one more odd in your favor that you wouldn't have if it was separated.

Besides, what exactly is "competitive" and "casual" when it comes to deck-building? Sure there are some definite yes answers to it, but there's also gray area there like archetypes that are topping but with alternate themes on how they operate, and any amount of variations that overlap said themes when sharing some support and whatnot.

Then we have those decks that are not strictly tier 1 but are still competent enough to function against the most popular decks nowadays, or good rogue decks designed to go up against more topping decks.

It is not about if a deck is competitive or not, but about the theme/goal you are looking for in your build. It might or might not suck but the idea is to still try to make it do the best with what it has available. "Casual" is often used as a shield argument to refuse suggestions that would sometimes help out without changing the intent of the deck, and I think people need to differentiate more about comments saying "throw that deck away, here's a better and completely different deck for you" and those who are actually try to contribute with the theme. Casual =/= Mediocre efforts in deck building. I'm not saying this with anything or anyone specific in mind though, I haven't been at that section in a long time so this is not meant as an offense. In any case, if someone is just joking around with a bunch of cards and really doesn't want any changes or doesn't explain why he rejects suggestions, that deck has no business being posted up to begin with since it is just a big waste of time that nobody enjoys.

So before I further stray from what I was originally talking about:

I don't think decks should separate into further sections. If the problem is about lack of comments either by lack of activity on the section or lack of interest from the visitors of the thread on X particular subject, then that is indeed disappointing but it is really out of our hands when it comes to a third person's interests.

Casual decks don't need their own section. These decks are about having *fun*, thus they aren't for competitive playing. So, just use the cards what you really want to use and you like, and that's all.

HOWEVER.

I actually agree that there may be a sub-forum for alternative formats and decks for such format.

P.S. You can post "semi-competitive" decks with a "[bUDGET]" tag just to make sure you get suggestions that are not including "overused" and/or "too pricy" cards, EVEN if it is for an online deck.
