The Problem with YCM

Recommended Posts

An intelligent and observant person once said

A:

"Which is kind of a sad fact about this site, there's a bunch outcasted fucks who were constantly put down for one reason or another and then come on here, feel like they finally have a voice and then use it to put down others."

Perhaps not put so bluntly, but I think they nailed the problem. For my part, I was and still am (though I'm trying to not be) an rather aggressive jabroni. My personal problem aside, there's really no reason for me or anyone else to sheet all over someone else be it for difference in opinion or something as simple as a card game.

As Hypocritical and ironic as this may seem, I really think what this community needs is just that, a greater sense of community and more acceptance amongst ourselves

There's a problem inherent with that one: human nature. Ever heard of GIFT? We as humans are, generally speaking, incapable of being decent and respectful for any length of time, especially where anonymity is involved. It's a nice sentiment, don't get me wrong, but good luck effecting change.

But, that's just my standpoint.

Dang, all this animosity for a good-hearted, though impractical, statement.

People tend to get riled up when someone disagrees with them on something they care about. They need to check themselves when that happens, but not much can be done.

Which animosity? I only see one such statement. Just confused.

This is a silly thread. Like really there's nobody on here that's much of a jabroni, at least that I've seen. Probably the least cuntish userbase I've seen actually.

Aww ily too

And what's the plan then? Is there anything you think can be done about it or are you just announcing it for the sake of announcing it?

The first step would be for people to look at their own posts and agree with it. I nor anyone else can make someone change if they will to be blind to the problem. You guys have pointed out plenty of instances where I've been a toe rag, and I'm working to no duplicate those instances. It's a slow process, but maybe not ridiculing each other and resorting to sarcasm as solution to most discussions would be a start?

There's always been an inherent problem with YCM's community. It mostly is a bunch of people who can't agree on someone else's opinion in a respectful, polite manner. The mentality here has always been "my opinion is better than yours, deal with it". Which is why I normally don't frequent this place a lot, or at least not as much as I used to. I've never tried to intentionally put down others on here, but always there was someone else who thought they were the absolute best at what they did and used that mentality to stir up conflict. Not going to call anyone out but there have been instances where that has happened multiple times with me.

THAT is the real problem with YCM. Calling us "outcasted fucks" like you said just makes the problem that much worse. It's an abrasive and harsh tone that's unnecessarily needed. If everyone learned to just be respectful of each other and take into consideration other people's feelings and emotions in a calm and MATURE manner, then we wouldn't be having this problem.

I feel like people not taking responsibility for their actions is an issue too. Such as the bolded. I'm sure you're usually fine but I seem to remember some quite harsh words, particularly towards Striker.

But anyway been trying to be less emotional with replies and instead explain the reasoning behind the emotions and seeing how that goes.

Your tone often sounds really forceful though.

Err, well those weren't my words, I did mention that they were someone else's to me. I just found wisdom in their analysis

tbh it doesn't matter whose words they were if you're still using them. cant really hide behind them, especially if you follow them up by saying that you agree with them.

i dont really get this thread, is this a general section thing again?

I don't see much of the disrespect on YCM that Winter is stating about here. Then again I only stick to a few kinds of subforums so idk for sure.

The problem with YCM is that they dont have pendulum template yet LOL and YCM uses duel portal over learn how to simply code yugioh cards on ygopro which is real easy being that u just take from other effects and mash them.

Yeah we could use a pendulum template except I would think it would be seperate from the other templates for the many differences between pend cards and others. (Having 2 boxes, scales, widescreen img, etc.)

I feel like these kinds of posts pop up a lot on YCM recently. Glad to see people are aware of it, though.

I'm not a very active poster as a I am a lurker, but I'll give my two cents.

And what's the plan then?

Effort is nice, but when people just talk and don't do anything to back their words--or even take their advice for an hour or two--there isn't really going to be any progress, as we've all seen and observed.

  • Something I've noticed is that a lot of users on here use sarcasm excessively, mixed/followed by serious statements. And sarcasm doesn't really come off too well with text. And in turn, it offends others.
  • Another is the unnecessary use of words that belittle other people, like "idiot" or something similar; something that they know is going to rile someone else up, covering it with their proper reasoning. And when someone calls them out on it, they say something along the lines of "It's an opinion and I gave a valid statement, if you're offended by that, grow thicker skin."
  • When arguments start, the insults become the focus of the arguments rather than the actual topic or problem itself. For some reason, people just cannot suck up their pride and apologize and would rather drag it on. If someone's offended, rather than ridiculing them, I think that apologizing upright is just a faster way to keep the problem from escalating.

Very well said. You should probably post more often imo because we could use a guy like you in some of these situations.
