Deck Challenges: Battle Packs With a Twist to Remedy Tier 0

Snatch Steal

Recommended Posts

~Deck Challenge Experience~

A Deck Challenge features a set of cards in which there is no Forbidden/Limited List, but the cards in that set are the only cards allowed. In short, the only Forbidden cards are any cards not in the setlist. Bear in mind, however, that unlike drafts, these sets function just like regular duels.

Many reprints can affect the composition of decks in the format. Reprints of important Konami-made cards tend to serve as the stencil for custom card mold. Several deck archetypes could potentially be threatening, and are purposefully made powerful. Cards looked down upon by the community now could serve devastating in the Deck Challenge format.

All of the Custom Cards to date have been posted. If you please, observe the cards and make conjectures on which ones would be good, bad, should be removed, or are not listed yet that should be in.

[spoiler=Threatlist]

• "Watch Dog" in combination with "Dim Remembrance" is literally searchable Raigeki.

• "Gale Dogra" counts as a "Dog" monster, meaning it can send "Herald of Arc Light" from your deck to your graveyard once searched by "Lesser Dog." This means you can complete your Ritual Summon materials most of the time. You can also Special Summon it (from your deck!) with "Pooch Party."

• "Lycanthrope" Can be summoned using "Advanced Ritual Art", by sending 3 "Quite Unhappy Sheep" and 3 other level 1 Normal monsters. Then, your opponent takes at least 1200 extra damage from its attacks.

• "Rescue Rabbit" is a huge threat on purpose, due to it being at 3 and the mass amount of Normal monsters in the set. Fortunately, there are much fewer Xyz monsters to reciprocate (for now).

• Red-Eyes, or dragon decks in general, could be threatening due to their mass amount of support in comparison to other types.

• Multiple Attribute, Equip Monster, and Continuous Trap Monsters will be the rogue decks of the format; however, equip cards might actually be very decent, due to Snatch Steal being at 3.

• I might need to get rid of Cold Wave for obvious reasons

• Night Beam and Dust Tornado will be the standard S/T Removal.

[spoiler=Workshop]

• "Flash Fusion" lets you fusion summon anything during the battle phase, but it destroys the monster at the end of the turn.

What if the monster couldn't be destroyed by card effects?

• "Unstoppable Engineering" allows you to Special Summon 1 Machine-Type monster from your deck, but it can't be an Xyz material.

What if you summoned a tuner?

[spoiler=Cards That I Probably Won't Include]

• Elders are a little out of the question. Norden is already very powerful (and fun, sometimes), but I don't think that much bustedness is necessary. Hastorr is a cute level 4, so maybe something like that would be ok, but some instances of OTKs are annoying.

• Rescue Cat

• Pendulum Monsters, although not out of the question, are kind of frowned upon by most people (and for good reasons); regardless of how much I like them, they can be pretty annoying at times. It depends on how things progress, but for now, they'll be on the backburner. Basically, no Pepe, but Normal Pends might happen.

• Busted Floodgates (Lose 1 Turn, Skill Drain, etc.)

• Traditional staples (Mystical Space Typhoon, Solemn Warning) (It's supposed to be a challenge)

• Most banned cards that are banned for a good reason (Pot of greed, Graceful Charity)

[spoiler=Cards that I WILL include]

• Cards that are banned for no reason or could positively influence the meta (as far as the meta is concerned) (Destiny HERO Disk Commander, Lavalval Chain, Card of Safe Return)

• Anything that can make combos or strategies that are creative

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand exactly how this works. Could you please elaborate the whole thing? I mean, I get you're using custom cards and reprints and combos, but unsure how and what restrictions there are.

It's more simple than it comes off as. Literally, a custom format in which the only cards allowed are the cards here. Imagine going to locals and seeing 5,000+ cards on the Forbidden/Limited list (not to say that this will have big events like that, which I'm sure it won't). So, "Super Rejuvenation" is allowed at 3, while "Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear" is banned, since it's not included in the setlist.

The goal is to reduce deck tiering as much as possible and to have as much fun (without rescue cat norden) playing yugioh as possible. Some decks will obviously inherently be better than others due to play style and support, but as cards are added and removed, the decks should be as balanced as possible.

I am assuming Lesser Dog is supposed to have much lower stats than it currently does (because 27/24 on a Level 4 without restrictions is definitely bad taste, and I probably should not have to mention that).

oh sorry i didn't notice that xd

those are Greater Dog's stats, I guess I forgot to change them

I changed it to 1400/1500
