YCM Easter Event 2016 Results & Overview

Flash Flyer - Sakura

Recommended Posts

General Overview

I will admit that activity this time around wasn't as active as it was last year, but suppose that it couldn't be helped due to this falling during the academic year for a lot of us, among other circumstances.

Event should've been up earlier, but due to circumstances beyond my control at the time, I couldn't post it until the day before (and the whole thing was planned about a month in advance too). But that in mind, there was a good amount of participation.

[spoiler=Some general logic]

1. Aside from the election thread in General, where else would you have found something to do with voting?

2. If you figure out what the night is usually paired with, this one shouldn't have been too difficult.

3. Making an implicit reference to GFX and my old shop thread (the one BEFORE the current store I have now)

4. If you've been paying attention to ARC-V leaks, this might've made things easier.

5. Where can one be Konami R/D and design stuff?

6. This was hinting at CC guides, but which one? You really had three choices; two in Advanced and the lone one in Casual.

7. Hint was themed after the jokes Smogon wrote for Spinda's usage dex. Seriously, that thing is mostly jokes and less on an actual way to use him properly.

8. You're getting a tutorial on how to do something; where would one find something of the sort?

9. Literature is relatively inactive, but there still must be order.

10. This one required that you first know what my original username was (which could be easily found from my name change history; I only changed it ONCE). Once you figured that out, the rest should've been easier.

.Requiem is an old member, but is on the first page of top posters.

11. Have you been paying attention to moderators past and present? If you remembered, Yin was the eldest of all of us prior to Nai's promotion.

(To be rather fair, there was a past mod who was older than her by about 4-5 years, but this is going by 2014-ish standards)

12. Hinting at a custom card contest, but there were two of them that did similar things.

13. This one required that you know what a treintañero is [which is basically Spanish to refer to someone in their 30s; nothing more than that], who's actually close to being one and if they participated in any events. To make it simpler, if you remembered who Nai was during Halloween 2014, this would've been easier.

(I left the event planning in that thread in the mod forum for the past month and a half, so the other staff members did know about its location + the clue.)

14. Should be self-explanatory (also remember where you can look up exact forum assignments since the team thing at the bottom is very vague)

15. It would be very tempting to think that the egg would be hidden on MY profile (since she is listed in my "Married to / Spouse" section), but it isn't. Or again, you can actually use Sapphy's profile to figure out who else.

16. This was a cancelled contest somewhere; hint was supposed to sound like something Night would say (since the egg was buried in a section that he moderates).

17. In light of the new cards that were released in The Dark Illusion, there were a few boss monsters that were released; one of them being an overkill boss that you likely wouldn't need too much.

18. Knowing who liked Gadgets (or stuff associated with them) would've helped you a lot.

19. This hint was written in Spanish, but the text was DeMeNTeD/Selatcia's translated user title. I did say he was a veteran member, albeit one who hasn't come around for a good while.

20. There were two clubs that hailed from the old days (Club Espeon and The Treehouse), though only mine had multiple remakes. Treehouse got one revival in the recent era and that was it.

[At this point, just consider their glory days to be in the past + a reminder of old YCM]

21. Knowing about Absolute Powerforce (the club) would come in handy here (remake should've been on page 2 or something in Clubs, considering its activity level now)

22. Both of the linked videos had the names of the new Pokémon games in the song's title [in Japanese]; if you knew the song was "Tsuki to Taiyou no Meguri" (Circulation of the Moon and Sun), that should've given you a hint.

The previous one would've given you another idea that it was Pokémon themed; one with Miku may have been slightly harder.

23. Just like with Selatcia, this one had Flash Star's user title; also, the number might've given you a clue. (Yes, this and 33 were Xmas themed)

This was basically a test account I made to check if registration was working; at the time, they weren't for some reason.

(Basically, one of the other staff members asked to confirm that it was working, and the registration went through).

24. Sort of implying the rules (and other announcements).

25. Requires you to look at some of the Level 6 members (5000 - 9999 posts) and remember who actually frequented Showcase or the Graphics section in general back in the old days.

26. The Kalos part was a reference to style; where could one find help on making their profiles stylish.

27. Most of you probably won't remember the time YCM had neg reps enabled, but this was a reference to that. (Scrolling down the member list, you will see one member who indeed does have a negative reputation)

In other words, negative reps = likes for him.

28. Requires you to know who has/had a Calvin/Hobbes avatar, or more specifically, Hobbes.

29. If you remember who ragnarok1945 was and the amount of post count he had, you simply had to divide by ten and find a member with that much.

(Like the big red message says, rag has NOT returned and likely gave up coming here)

30. Implying Showcase stuff again. (I did move Spinda's gift thread over in light of the spriting fad pushing stuff back a lot)

31. Standard of writing (in theory, they do teach this kind of stuff in depth at the 200-level; least at my university)

32. Might help if you remembered my custom usergroup and who's in it.

33. Remember that the Christmas lights were still up at the time this event started. The thread title did have a small implication to this

34. Think of something related to fire. Although just as a sidenote, the original hint for this egg was much harder.

Overall, no one found all 34 eggs (at least from the PMs), HOWEVER all the eggs were found at least once.

I will say that only one person each managed to find egg #13 and egg #16.

Winners

[spoiler=View]

>= 30 eggs

Fusion (31)

British (30)

>= 20 eggs

Admiral of Navigation (26)

Jord200 (20)

>= 10 eggs

shadowliepard (12)

Emperor Klondike (12)

(This is based on the spreadsheet I've been keeping on your progress throughout the event)

Prizing

As mentioned, no one actually found all 34 eggs, but due to the results, I have decided to adjust the prizing.

Winner will still get the permanent group, but if you managed to find at least 30 of the eggs, you'll also get permanent (to be really fair, only one egg separated the two people who actually got here). If you managed to find this many, you deserve it.

If you found at least 20 [not 22], the two month membership prize (and points will be given).

At least 12 eggs will grant you a small prize (same as before), which will be an award logo that you can display in your profile/signatures.

Summary

Overall, there were a lot of eggs for you to find and I am aware that some of the eggs were difficult for a few of you (although that's part of the challenge). For the use of veteran members from the past, some of them also appeared in the previous two Easter Egg hunts (ones that you likely wouldn't know very well outside of stories told about them).

Recall that 23 and onward were INTENDED to be difficult, hence the generally less obvious hints + lack of pictures.

In any case, for those of you who participated, general thoughts?

I'm guessing Fusion was the only one who found egg #16, and for those who wwas wondering; I was the one who found egg #13

I think I know why no one else found egg #13, because of the method of getting to the profile. Yeah, you couldn't search for it in the members area, you had to use the calendar in order to get to the profile in question. Not gonna lie it took me a while to find it because I realised the 3 months thing applied from the end of the event. Very clever though.

(I didn't think only one person found #16 though, considering it was more easily accessible than #13)

Didn't think it'd be that close though. I tried to hunt for the remaining eggs over the weekend, just wasn't motivated enough, but I'll give my thoughts on the ones I missed, then the ones I found in spoiler tags because I don't want this post to be a wall of text, because it'll defo end up being a wall of text.

[spoiler=Thoughts on the eggs I missed]

5: Not gonna lie, I thought this'd be in CC. Forgot about that thread tbph.

16: Not gonna lie, I found myself trying to search through the card contest threads more than the GFX competition threads, though I should've checked through that section more thoroughly given that Night usually says kids.

26: Looking at the logic spoiler, I should've figured that it'd have something to do with profile customisation, it just didn't click

30: This one, I knew it was something to do with Showcase, but I simply had nothing.

[spoiler=Thoughts on the eggs I found]

1: This one was relatively simple, didn't have any problems here.

2: Another relatively simple one at least.

3: Looking at the first part of the clue, I remembered the clue from a previous event so I assumed it was a Sakura thread, then things fell into place.

4: For this one, I did try all three of the characters that'd be returning in Arc-V, overall I didn't find this one very difficult.

6: I knew that this'd be a CC guide so I checked all of them. Like egg #4 trial and error helped.

7: Not gonna lie, I didn't think the clue alluded to something on Smogon, I knew it had something to do with pokemon. I think it was one I stumbled across after the member posted in a status.

8: I figured it was a tutorial thread, so like eggs #4 and 6, trial and error helped me here.

9: Looking at this one, it had to be a rules thread, again, it boiled down to trial and error.

10: Funnily enough when I found this one, I stumbled across it, I paid no attention to the reps or your old username Sakura.

11: This one was simple because I knew Cin was a mod back in the day.

12: This was the 29th egg I found, I did find this one somewhat difficult even though I knew it was a card contest thread. I eventually managed to stumble across it.

13: Seeing as I was the only one that found said egg, this was probs the most difficult member egg, but not the one I found most difficult tbh. See the first paragraph as to why I thought it was the most difficult member egg. I did translate the word mentioned in the clue before hunting for it.

14: This one I thought was challenging at first, but then I remembered there was a list of staff members compiled somewhere, and everything fell into place.

15: I will admit, Sakura was the first place I looked for this (convenience), then I checked Sapphy's profile to find her other spouse. I believe it was one of the first eggs I found.

17: I knew this was a Synchro monster, so logically I checked the TCG section. There was a few being discussed at the time as well as a couple Nirvana threads.

18: This one I think I stumbled across, then I remembered his previous username was Gadjiltron.

19: Can't remember the logic as to how I found this egg, again I believe I stumbled across it.

20: This one wasn't too difficult for me, I remember Club Espeon got numerous remakes.

21: Another one I didn't have many problems finding. It was a matter of finding the Powerforce thread and hit the TC's profile.

22: Not gonna lie, I didn't know about the title translation, but I was aware of the video being removed (luckily I saw it before being taken down). I didn't realise at the time it was pokemon related and I found myself thinking "how is that relevant?", again I simply stumbled across the egg.

23: First thing I did was search the lyrics to see if it'd help me, but I hit a dead end, but after I looked through the members, I managed to find it after which I realised the lyrics were relevant.

24: This is legitimately how I found the egg; I actually looked at the most liked content and the thread in question was amongst the most liked content, and I was like "found egg #24 then."

25: I remember finding this egg by looking at the friends list of those who frequented GFX.

27: For this one I figured that the clue alluded to reps, in this case neg reps, so I trawled through the profiles until I found one with a neg rep rating, and bob's your uncle.

28: This one I considered the most difficult member egg and was the last member egg I found. It was after I found this egg that I PM'd Sakura asking if there were 17 member eggs because I actually looked through like 3500+ profiles trying to find the 17th member egg. I do remember this was the last egg I found. I eventually found this one after hours of searching though. The reason why I found this more difficult than #13 because I wasn't familiar with Calvin and Hobbes.

29: Can't remember the logic as to how I found the egg, another one I believe I stumbled across.

31: Looking at this clue, I figured that it had something to do with writing, so I headed into the Creative Writing section.

32: This one I didn't find difficult at all as I remembered the member group in question. This was one of the easier challenge eggs at least imo.

33: Considering that the xmas lights were still up at the beginning of the event, I assumed it had something to do with that. Again I found this with trial and error.

34: This one I remember stumbling across as well. I originally assumed it was something to do with Jack, but that'd be a bit too easy hence why I stumbled across the egg because I did randomly find it.

This took about an hour to write, hence the wall of text.

Mind you though, this is the first easter event that I didn't found all of the eggs.

Congrats to Fusion though.

Not gonna lie I dropped this because I had been getting sicker and more busy with RPs stuff. From the answers, I feel if I tried I could've gotten around...15 or so had I focused a bit more. Oh well, it was interesting that's for sure. :) Didn't even bother looking for any of them last time.

We could only guess how many you would've gotten.

(Writing the logic spoiler should give an idea about how the hints were structured)

@British: Yeah, Fusion's the only one who got #16. And indeed, Night does say "kids" a lot (either that, or something else).

For #13, I admit that one would have to jump through some hoops to figure it out [Onibaba should've still been in the 9000 post range and unbanned]. Idea was that you remember how old Nai is (because that was his monster account), then find the monster he made.

23's hint did have Flash Star's user title in it (and yeah, it was a line from the profile music that got added on it).

How.....HOW....did I miss the Sun and Moon one? I must have literally scrolled past it without even noticing it. >_

Ugh......

Overall, I liked it. It was a challenge, but that is kind of the point.

Well, it was buried down for a while until recently, so I wouldn't blame you if you didn't see it after it dropped to page 2 or something.

----

Ah right, I did mention in #34's logic that the hint was originally harder.

[spoiler=This is what it amounted to]

34. Solve the triple integral (Think closely about what the result tells you)

I was planning on changing it to a double one because it's slightly easier to compute + less messy (well, in terms of fractions), but either way, multiple integrals are something beyond a lot of your skill levels [and a 4th year equation]. This would've given you a number (should come out with rounding), but you'd have to decide if that's a thread or member ID.

If you know how to do general one-variable integrals, idea is that you take one variable first and integrate w/respect to that; then you move on to the next variable and do the same. (It does not matter which variable you start with; you'll get the same result in the end)

----

It's a good thing I scrapped this idea (though I did double check the result multiple times to make sure it'd come out correctly). You could've asked an online calculator to do the equation for you also, but yeah...

26 is at least 75%, gotta hone my skills for next year's event......

May I ask....when will the points be send?

To be fair, some of the eggs were buried on either older threads or members that mostly veterans from my era would remember.

I intend to send the points and stuff in a day or so (due to coursework); that, and trying to figure out how you guys felt about the event as a whole (and what changes you'd like for next year; if this happens).

Well damn, I thought I'd searched all the monsters.

But that's cool about the membership group, thanks!

I would've hoped one of you would've gotten all of them, but yeah I think finding 30 is sufficient enough.

I originally picked the locations in late February, so chances were that they'd indeed land up buried as time went on. (Hence, why the recommendation was to find them quickly)

#30 might've been easier if not for the upsurge in sprite attempts in Showcase at the time; hence why I had to move it over to Tutorials (since that place is generally dead, so you should find it). #33 was likely to get buried in Advanced CC.

----

Anyway, your Tea Drinker group from last year is still open; you still want that group (or a name change on it)?

Let's hope that the staff members next year aren't too busy with stuff to host them; I cannot say if it's going to be me hosting them again or someone else.

But yeah, Fusion already got his group; still processing yours Admiral and British/Jord still need to let me know what they'd like (may need to tell the latter via PM). The award logos for those of you who got 12 or more eggs will be PMed to you in a day or so.

----

Also, I would like to apologize for the slight miscount in the total number of eggs for each category; I thought that I had 11/11 in the first batch that you had images of, but there was actually 10 members and 12 forum; hopefully this didn't cause too much confusion.

Well, hint #34 (original one) would test your skills (and in actuality, it is relatively straight-forward; not one of those that require you change the boundaries / order of integration). If you all want to, you could try doing it and see if you get the same result.

But yeah, the user groups have more/less been given out (Jord is still deciding on stuff). I'll PM the award logos later on; might be somewhat simplistic again, but yeah.

----

The Easter Bunny is still happy at the progress the winners actually made, despite not being completed. Now, if you'll excuse him, he's overstayed quite a bit. I'll go ahead and pick up the eggs no one found.
