So yeah, here's my Aurightning Archetype (Aurora + Lightning). The idea behind these cards was the connection between how Auroras are formed, and what Lightning is. I always thought it'd be interesting to witness an aurora happen during a lightning storm, or lightning happen during an aurora, and this fascination is where the archetype came from.

 

The archetype plays similarly to Mermails, in that by sending its monsters from the hand to the Graveyard by the effect of a certain group of monsters (WATER vs. Thunder-type), they get special, powerful effects. The Deck mainly makes level 4s and level 7s, but to bring out all the bosses, it will most likely cause you to have to lose quite a few life points.

Aurightning Demacia

Level 4/LIGHT/Thunder-type Monster

1700/1200

EFFECT: If this card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard by the effect of a Thunder-type monster: you can add one Thunder-type monster from your Deck to your hand. During your Main Phase: you can send 1 Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard (except another copy of this card), and if you do, you can add one "Aurightning" Trap from your Deck to your hand.  This card gains 300 ATK if there is another face-up Thunder-type monster on the field. Each of this card's effects can only be activated once per turn.

 

Aurightning Deflaer

Level 4/LIGHT/Thunder-type Monster

400/1900

EFFECT: If this card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard by the effect of a Thunder-type monster: you can Special Summon this card to the field from the Graveyard. You can send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do, Special Summon one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Field, but its effects are negated and it's shuffled back into the Deck at the end of the turn. While you control another Thunder-type monster, you can activate this effect: this card's level is treated as 7. Each of this card's effects can only be activated once per turn.

 

Aurightning Devyern

Level 4/LIGHT/Thunder-type Monster

2000/0

EFFECT: If this card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard by the effect of a Thunder-type monster: you can destroy one face-up card your opponent controls, and if it's a monster: inflict damage to your opponent equal to half that monster's ATK. You can only use this effect of "Aurightning Devyrn" once per turn. While this card is in the Graveyard: you can send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do, Special Summon this monster. You cannot use this effect the turn this card is sent to the Graveyard. This card cannot attack your opponent directly.

 

Aurightning Detratos

Level 4/LIGHT/Thunder-type Monster

0/0

EFFECT: If this card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard by the effect of a Thunder-type monster: you can destroy one Spell/Trap card your opponent controls, and if it was a face-down Spell card, you can add this card back to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Aurightning Detratos" once per turn. While this card is face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon Thunder-type monster in addition to your Normal Summon/Set for your turn. If you control another face-up Thunder-type monster, this card cannot be destroyed by battle, and your opponent takes any damage you would from battles with this card. 

 

Aurightning Depe

Level 4/LIGHT/Thunder-type Monster

EFFECT: If this card is sent from your hand to the Graveyard by the effect of a Thunder-type monster: you can Special Summon this card and as many Thunder-type monsters from your Graveyard as possible, but if you do, you take 1000 damage for each card Special Summoned by this effect, and you cannot enter your Battle Phase for the rest of the turn. When this effect is activated, you cannot Special Summon any other monsters besides Thunder-type monsters for the rest of the turn, and during the End Phase, each of these cards are banished. During your Main Phase: You can make this card and one other Thunder-type monster you control Level 7 until the end of the turn. Each of this card's effects can only be activated once per turn.

 

Aurightning King Demarkus

Level 7/LIGHT/Thunder-type Monster

2700/1000

EFFECT: You can send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do, add this card from your Graveyard to your hand. If this card is Special Summoned: take 1000 damage and banish one card in your hand. If this card is in your hand: you can send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do, Normal Summon this card without using any Tributes. Each of this card's effects can only be activated once per turn.

Aurightning Brazen Path

Field Spell Card

EFFECT: All Thunder-type monsters gain 500 ATK and DEF but cannot attack if they are Level 5 or higher. Once per turn, you can add one Thunder-type monster from your Graveyard to your hand. If this card is sent to the Graveyard from the Field Zone: Special Summon it as a monster to your side of the field (DARK/Thunder/Level 7/ATK 2700/DEF 1000).

 

Aurightning Storm Front

Normal Spell Card

EFFECT: When this card is activated: pay 2000 Life Points; Special Summon two Thunder-type monsters from your Graveyard to the field, and if you do, target one of those monsters: both monsters' levels become equal to the targeted monster's level. If you activate this card: for the rest of the turn you cannot Summon monsters besides Thunder-type monsters. You can only activate one "Aurightning Storm Front" per turn.

 

Aurightning Thunderous Eruption

Normal Spell Card

EFFECT: Discard one card from your hand; add up to 2 Thunder-type monsters from your Graveyard to your hand. During your Main Phase, except for the turn this card was sent to the Graveyard: you can banish this card and target cards your opponent controls equal to the number of "Aurigtning" cards you control; destroy those targets, and take 300 damage for each card destroyed by this effect. You can only activate one "Aurightning Thunderous Eruption" per turn.

Aurightning Thunderous Wings

Continuous Trap Card

EFFECT: When this card is activated: select one Thunder-type monster in your Deck; Special Summon that Thunder-type monster from your Deck to the field, and if you do, negate that monster's effects. If this card leaves the field: destroy that monster. If that monster leaves the field, destroy this card.

Aurightning Dragon Delacruz

Rank 4/LIGHT/Thunder-type (Xyz) Monster

2200/1800

EFFECT: 2 Level 4 LIGHT Monsters

Once per turn, you can send one LIGHT Thunder-type monster from your hand, and, if you do,  this card can attack twice this Battle Phase, but any battle damage this card deals your opponent is halved. Once per turn, when an opponent would activate a card or effect that would destroy any number of face-up Thunder-type monsters cards you control: you can detach one Xyz Material from this card; negate that card or effect.
 
Aurightning Thunderbird
Rank 7/LIGHT/Thunder-type (Xyz) Monster

EFFECT: 2 Level 7 LIGHT Monsters
When this card is Xyz Summoned: send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard. Once per turn, you can detach one Xyz Material from this card; send one Thunder-type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. If this card deals your opponent battle damage: you can Special Summon one Thunder-type monster from your Graveyard, but it cannot declare an attack this turn.
 
Aurightning Atronach
Rank 7/LIGHT/Thunder-type (Xyz) Monster

EFFECT: 2 Level 7 Thunder-type Monsters
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. Once per turn, you can detach one Xyz Material from this card and send 1 Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do: target one face-up card your opponent controls; destroy it. When this card is sent to the Graveyard: add one Thunder-type monster from your Graveyard to your hand.
 
Cxyz Aurightning Darklight Beast
Rank 8/DARK/Thunder-type [C](Xyz) Monster
3500/2700
EFFECT: 3 Level 8 LIGHT Monsters
Once per turn, if this card would be destroyed: you can send one Thunder-type or LIGHT monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do, this card is not destroyed. If this card has an "Aurightning" Xyz Monster attached to it as Xyz Material, it cannot be targeted, and it gains this effect:
+ Once per turn, you can detach one Xyz Material from this card: shuffle up to 5 "Aurightning" monsters from your Graveyard into the Deck; destroy cards your opponent controls, up to the number of cards shuffled into the Deck by this effect. Your opponent takes 500 damage for each card destroyed by this effect.

As always, CnC is much appreciated. Hopefully the new way I'm doing cards going into the future (outside of New Frontier Universe cards) will make it easier on the eyes to read. I also color coded things. (Monsters in brown, Spells in teal, Traps in fire brick, Xyzs in dark grey, Cxyzs in light grey.)

Just before I give you by big review, I would like to point out that an effect like "Once per turn, while this card is in the Graveyard: you can send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard; Special Summon this monster." has a cost and effect, and you are selecting the wrong one to activate your Thunder monster's effects. Sending by a card effect would be "Once per turn, while this card is in the Graveyard: You can send one Thunder-type monster from your hand to the Graveyard, and, if you do, Special Summon this monster." Card text between the colon and the semicolon is the cost, and, while cards can activate by being sent as a cost (See Mermail/Atlanteans) sending by a card effect must be after the cost/semicolon, if there is any at all. So, right now, the archetype doesn't work. Just change that quickly, then I'll review it.

Another thing to comment on: That "Once per turn, if this card is" doesn't really work as far as I know, as when a card changes zones, the effect "resets" as it were. It would be best to remove that and add "You can only use this effect of "X" per turn." after the effect, or replace "this" with "each" if you have multiple effects to be limited off the field.

 

Demacia's search effect is rather neat for the archetype, but the other two effects leave a little to be desired. From what I've seen, you're going to mainly be Special Summoning the Level 7, or Normal Summoning it with its own effect, so you won't need the one less Tribute for these cards, and I don't know any Level 5/6s worth running in this archetype. The ATK gain is an okay sub effect, but either this effect needs to buffed to something like Charger or the other one needs to be changed, as it is only worth running to discard right now.

 

Deflaer's effect to Summon from the grave is neat, but the effect to change its Level isn't really that useful, as you can Special Summon a monster from your hand with its effects, but if its not a Level 7 that is Summoned, you can't do much with it at all, as this is a Xyz Deck, and differing Levels don't really help, so the monster will be shuffled at the end of the turn and can't even use its effects.

 

Devyern is fine, also just use "ATK" instead of "attack points". I rather like it, as it can be offensive and defensive, and the limitation on the Special Summoning doesn't need any OPT on it.

 

Detratos first effect is great, being slightly more than the S/T destroyer, and rather unique, but the Normal Summoning effect...no. Infinite Normal Summons each turn as long as you play the archetype? Not exactly a good idea. Just change it to 1 additional Normal Summon. The last effect is also really unique, and makes a nice addition to the archetype.

 

Depe has a good way to make monsters Level 7 for the Xyzs, and the Soul Charge first effect is really neat. Just make sure that you add "battle phase this turn" so you aren't locked out of your Battle Phase for the rest of the Duel. It's also balanced to only Thunder-Types for the turn, and the rest of it also fine.

 

Nothing much to say about Demarkus, other than rewrite the OPT effect. Glad we have an actual Level 7 in this archetype.

 

I wish Brazen Path limited to Level 5 or higher, so it limited it to just this archetype, but Level 7 works a little, I guess. I think it would be best if you said instead of "sent to the Graveyard as a Spell" because it technically is a Spell while it is also a monster, but "sent to the Graveyard from the Field Zone" The add to the hand is fine and nicely splashable in many Thunder Decks, but I wish it had some sort of cost.

 

Again, nothing much to say about Stormfront. Nice card, would play it.

 

Eruption's first effect is rather underwhelming, as you want your Thunder-Types in your Graveyard for the most part, so perhaps allow you to search for 2 cards? However, the second effect for destruction is worth just sending it to the Graveyard. I mean, getting to nuke 1-6 cards without targeting and your opponent can't negate with a card other than an effect negating, is extremely powerful. Perhaps make it target it as well? It might need more nerfing after that as well.

 

Wings is weak. A slow Call of the Haunted from the deck that costs 2000 LP but also negates that monster's effects is not something this archetype needs. Remove the LP payment, and it would be a nice card to run.

 

Delacruz doesn't need that "Or Aurightning" monsters, as they are all Thunder-Types anyway. This card really works with the archetype, and has a neat protection effect, so nothing wrong there.

 

Thunderbird needs to say where it sends the monster from your hand to, although it is rather obvious. The Summon from the grave is a bit weak in my opinion. Don't negate the monster's effects on its summon, and just say "cannot declare an attack this turn" and that will be fine. The send to the Graveyard from the deck is also cool, as many of these cards work from the Graveyard.

 

Atronarch needs to target as a cost, as targeting as part of the effect doesn't do anything, and defeats the point of targeting, as your opponent is supposed to know which monster you want to nuke. The protection from battle, and the adding from the grave, also make this a good card to play. Nice work on the Extra Deck so far, especially with making Level 7 Xyzs in a Level 4 deck!

 

Oh boy, I was waiting for the Chaos Number. Is this card worth running that one RUM? Nah, not really. It can protect itself, and banish Level 7s from your Grave to destroy cards on your opponent's side of the field...but getting over destruction protected bosses is not hard in the current meta (See Cydra Infinity, Castel, Lightning Plover, etc.) and this archetype literally only has Level 7 that stays that way in the Graveyard. All the rest only stay on the field. This card would need some serious buffing to be worth running with a Rank-Up-Magic.

 

All in all, I would give this card a surprising 8/10. It really is a great take on the Thunder Theme, and while a few of the cards are lacking, the speed of the rest of the archetype still leaves it playable, and I haven't even mentioned Thunder Sea Horse yet, which is a neat card to use. Was fun to read!
