It's been a while since the rule requiring at least 3 people to start a roleplay has been lifted, and finally, your two lovely Roleplay Moderators (I'm obviously the lovelier one) shall create the first 1x1 in YCM's known history. Why, you may ask, would we not simply take this to PM? My answer: Shut the funk up, YCM is inactive enough already. Anyway, as far as I know, the 1x1 format is a pretty smooth and free format, but what do I know, I've never done one and neither has Nai to the best of my knowledge. Feel free to enjoy whatever the funk we end up writing, or just ignore this thread. Everything, including the title, is still in early planning stages and subject to change.

[spoiler=PREMISE]It's the Age of Discovery in our yet to be named fantasy world, and thousands of explorers are setting out from not!Europe to expand their horizons. Many find themselves lured eastward in search of the promised paradise of Shangri-La. Aix's character, one of the aforementioned explorers, arrives to a town in the Far East where Nai's character, a priest(ess), resides in search of clues. For one reason or another, he becomes convinced Nai's character has the key to what he seeks and thus begins a slice of life about an overly persistent adventurer and a tight-lipped priest(ess)!

That was the worst synopsis I have ever written.

[spoiler=RULES]Pfffft.

[spoiler=Personality]Alois is a man of action. In part, it is because of his superiority complex that drives him to validate his existence, but it is also partly his aversion to doing nothing and his will to pursue his goals. When he decides to do something, he will dive straight in and throw himself towards his objective. Failure usually doesn't deter him too much, he's the type to laugh it off and toss the past behind him to focus on the future. However, due to his naive and self-centred nature, he doesn't think too far, doesn't consider consequences, and tends to believe what is convenient to him.

After being pitied so often as an orphan and looked down upon as a mere laborer at l'Académie, Alois has great dislike of those with authority, wealth, or social status and their presence may make him act more irrationally than usual. Otherwise, Alois is a very cheerful and outgoing figure who will actively seek interaction with others with his infectious enthusiasm. He can seem insensitive at times, but he is just dense and doesn't realize when he is offending or inconveniencing someone without them spelling it out to him.

[spoiler=Biography]Orphaned from a young age, Alois sustained himself with the idea that his father had left on an expedition to find the legendary paradise, Shangri-La. His childhood at the orphanage was less than pleasant, but his seemingly invincible cheerfulness made him many friends among his fellow orphans and locals. They couldn't help but cave in and entertain his fantasies, and he promised them that he would one day lead them to the lost paradise after he goes out and finds it himself.

An objective he thought instrumental to his cause was obtaining knowledge and mastery of magic. One of the locals he befriended was a magical instrument technician at l'Académie gallican. With much persistence, he was able to help out with the man's job, even receiving a minor wage. Most importantly, however, it gave him access to the academy library where he would steal away whenever he could to read. Eventually, he was able to pick up a few tricks and was able to learn a bit about the lands to the East.

His time at l'Académie brought him in conflict with many of the scholars there, predominantly aristocrats. There were a few times where he risked losing his job. However, when one of the fresh graduates, an especially cocky and rich one which Alois couldn't stand, decided to set off on an expedition Shangri-La, Alois decided to swallow his pride and managed to persuade the man into letting him join.

[spoiler=Hinako]

"You'll find paradise easy by hitting your head hard enough on those cliffs~"

Personal Information

Name: Hinako
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Yamato

[spoiler=Appearance]
Q3reyA1.png?1

Height: 154 cm
Weight: 49 kg
Build: Lithe but well-built.

[spoiler=Personality]
Most people would usually see Hinako as a dignified individual, fitting for her role as the the head priestess of her village. Despite her young age, she is capable of taking the responsibility demanded by her position, and more importantly, she is also someone that acts like a bridge between the foreign travelers that visited her village, and their own people – most who saw those travelers and adventurers as misguided and a nuisance.
Off-duty however, she's quite cheerful, but she never is the type to hold back on her words and just say what she wants to say most of the time, so she tends to upset people with her words, whether it's warranted or not.

She never actually feel that she's a part of the village. She's aware of the rumors that she's not her father's legitimate child, or even not his actual daughter, and frankly, with all her interactions with the travelers that come to her village, what she heard about the world where they came from seem to be quite interesting. Had it not for her duties, she would've left her village and never look back. She's quite unsure why those travelers ever bothered to leave their home in search of a legend that Hinako herself never really believed in. It's really a pity seeing all those travelers die, but none of them seems to listen to her, so Hinako has resigned herself to just stop warning them of the dangers ahead.

Perhaps the paradise they're looking for really lies beyond their death.

[spoiler=Biography]
Hinako originated from the village of Mugenri, a small, remote settlement in the middle of nowhere. The village was pretty much untouched for centuries, but due to a widely circulated story regarding a mythical land of Shangri-la, it had become quite the attraction for people all over the place, mostly people from the neighboring continent who recently established a trade route that passed not far away from the village's location.
Hinako's origin was mostly unknown. For most people, she pretty much appeared out of nowhere when she was already ten-years old, and her family treated her as if she's always there all these times. Of course, rumors started to circulate regarding her origin. Was she the daughter of her father's (the chief of the village) secret mistress that had just been accepted into the family? She had some characteristics of the foreigners that visited the village often. Or perhaps she was actually a foreigner that was adopted into the family? Nobody was sure.

She grew up to be a fine and refined lady as the society expected her to be, albeit one with a quite sharp and indiscriminate tongue. As her older sister decided to have a family, she was chosen to be the next priestess, which at first raised some eyebrows from the villagers. Someone with an impure bloodline could bring calamity to their village in such a position, especially one with an origin as unclear as Hinako. And so, even as she did her job well, others looked at her inquiringly. She was seen as a disaster waiting to happen.

Hinako herself ended up mingling more with the foreigners that visited their village with the little sympathy she got from her own people. These people weren't really seen in a positive light by the villagers outside of giving them constant income and prosperity, for a good reason. Some of their carefree attitude was seen as quite rude, and their culture differed greatly from the one on the village. Not to mention, some of these foreigners do show little respect of the local culture and people, only wishing to reach Paradise as fast as they could. But despite of this, Hinako felt more at home with them, and even learned to speak their language semi-fluently after a few years.
