Aquarian Mermaid Queen

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by tributing 2 monsters you control while there is a face-up "Umi" on the field. During your Standby Phase if this card is the only WATER monster you control you can select 1 level 4 or lower WATER monster from your Graveyard and Special Summon it to the field in face-up Defense Position. During the Battle Phase increase this card's ATK by 400 for each face-up Defense Position WATER monster you control and then destroy all face-up Defense-Position WATER monsters you control during the End Phase. When "Umi" is removed from the field, this card is also destroyed. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard by battle, you can remove 3 WATER monsters from your Deck from play to add this card and 1 "Umi" in your Graveyard to your Deck, the Deck is then shuffled.

I like Umi. Water monsters are cool beans. This is pretty cool, too. It forces a lot of unnecessary self-destruction, though.

Being able to Summon up a Level 4 in Defense Position and then destroying it during the End Phase? During either players' End Phase, even, since it gains the ATK during "the" Battle Phase. Considering you only get to Summon the Level 4 on your own Standby Phase, you're going to do a lot of rounds with only the Queen face-up.

I think the last two effects contradict themselves in their utility. She's really big and good, but can be gotten rid of just by knocking out Umi. That makes her really vulnerable. Then, she only gets her Umi recursion effect when killed in battle? Why kill her in battle when you can go around that and just blow up Umi? And you only get to add her and Umi to the Deck? That's a little effect that could be triggered by just her being sent to the Graveyard, in my opinion. Outside of recycling Umi for Warrior of Atlantis, there aren't many big plays you can make by shuffling Umi back into your Deck.

It's a good card with a strong backbone for Umi, but it's too vulnerable.

7/10.

That much.
