Gundam 00 - Celestial Being Set

Recommended Posts

This is the fourth Yu-Gi-Oh set I have created, the third using this site's services. In creating a set based on Gundam 00, I chose to focus on Celestial Being and its resources as a way of limiting the number of cards I could create, and of getting past the problems I had when I created an Avengers set (way too many cards). In so doing, I have found that the ideal way to create a set with the ideal number of cards for a deck with leveling monsters is to use one with as few types of monsters as possible -- you will see what I mean when you look at the cards. I made these cards to be playable, even though some may consider them overpowered.

There is an issue about which I should warn you early on: the series takes place in space, therefore some of the cards may be overly dark. I printed them in black-and-white, and they were -- especially the ones with ArcherArios and Ptolemaios. If you can, I would recommend brightening up the picture before printing them. It does not have to be too late for you to do so.

You will quickly notice that the cards I make behave differently, and may well be regulation-breaking. That is one reason I am posting them here, rather than under Realistic Cards: my Field cards have different types that allow them to be Stacked and used together rather than destroying or overwriting each other; I have monster cards that can behave like spell cards, and spell cards that behave like monster cards. I also have created a number of new Monster Types, although in this deck it serves to show which monsters need to dock for a recharge, and which can operate independently when they are on the field (condensers vs GN Drives). You will also notice a large gap in unit power between the single- and double-drive units. I used a Gundam Wiki in my research for this deck, and determined how much more power a unit would have when compared to its predecessor based on the information I found there. To compensate, I do not have any cards in this set that supply a per-unit boost (like my Avengers set), nor does one unit double another unit's stats (Defenders of Middle Earth for this one). I have also combined Trans-Am into the other cards when I could, making my later Trans-Am cards practically redundant (although not entirely since a unit usually needs its Mid-Season Upgrade equip card to perform Trans-Am, and I assigned a group of units to which each Trans-Am card can have an affect.

This set's true strenth, though, lies not in units like 00-Raiser but in the people who support these units: Celestial Being personnel make it easier to bring out needed cards, provide boosts, intelligence on the opponent's deck or hand, and even supply a reordering function to effectively jam the opponent (unless the upcoming cards are really good).

Take a look and see what you think. I appreciate any feedback you have as long as you include specific suggestions. I have tested this set as a deck myself (with some obvious omissions). It is the simplest, most powerful one I have made so far, beating out even my vaunted Ala Alba Deck. Have a look.

During testing this was the easiest of my decks to use (of course, I could not use every card in the set so I chose as wisely as I could and skipped the rest). If you test it yourself you'll see how strong a set it is. Yes, there are a lot of effects that need to be taken into account, yet with a careful reading of each card you use you'll find this is a simple set. Much simpler than my Avengers set, at any rate. If it is something else confusing you, perhaps if you asked me some questions I can help straighten things out, and it will help me untangle aspects of the cards I never saw as confusing.

Umm...I know this isnt RC
But you have a LOT LOT of fake types, fake names like "Twin Drive" unit, not going to correct that,
Your OCG is VERY bad. You add a lot of fake words. I recommend you read up on it.
Dont see how this set can be used, seeing how ridiculously overpowered each monster is. Level 4's with insane amount of ATK.
You'll learn, though since you're new.

Could you please give me specific example of reasonable power levels for Level-4's, for example?

I know I am not using OCG (where can I 'read up on that?'). I would not be able to reflect the units' abilities if I did (they would never fit on the cards or they would make the text too small to read). I would never try to construct a deck from any of my sets for an official match, so unless someone cares to help me with phrasing and such I'd just keep the cards as they are, since I made them mostly for the fun of it. But it would be nice to duel against some people with it.

As I mentioned before, the deck I made from this set tested as very powerful, but I do not think it is unbeatable. I could well design my own ideal deck based on the lessons I learned from this one.

With this set, the types are more often about whether a unit has a GN Drive (can operate long-term as well as possessing jamming abilities) or a GN Condenser (must recharge, and not a sufficient concentration of particles for jamming). I also wanted to take the Meisters into account, so I put their names under the type field whenever I could. This field does not give a lot of room for mucking about. It is very difficult to reflect a unit's true ability and still make it so it can be summoned. At the same time, I don't remember having a unit with an ATK below 1500, which makes my whole deck vulnerable to cards like Crush Virus, doesn't it? Well, sort of.

EDIT: I thought it might help if I specified what I believe you are saying would help. I think it's a power range (ATK and DEF combined) that would be acceptable, in your opinion, in each tier (Levels 1-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12). I'll give you an example of what I mean:

One of the most powerful offical Level-4 monsters I can remember is Skilled Dark Magician (1900/1700). Skilled White Magician (1700/1900), like SDM has a combined power of 3600, so I will set that as my maximum to start. I do not remember seeing a Level-4 monster with more than 2300 ATK, or more than 3000 DEF (unless I am confusing things). For now I will also set these as maximums. I will also try to restrict series-specific types to subtypes instead (either in brackets or after the second slash, although it seems the slash is conventional). These subtypes are important, as they have their own innate abilities, like jamming communications and sensors. But we'll address that at another time. The most important thing right now is to get a working example down.

I will use 'Exia' as an example of a Level-4 unit emphasizing ATK:
GN-001 Exia [Earth] Level-4
[Machine/3rd Generation Speed GN] or for space, simply [Machine/3G GN Speed Gundam]
Exia cannot be targeted by older MACHINEs. Once per turn Exia can negate an energy barrier. If Exia would be defeated in battle by a monster with less than 500 ATK more than Exia; treat Exia as 'Exia Repair (1500/1000).'
ATK: 2300 DEF: 1300

I thought I could use 'Virtue' for the next one, but I forgot it does not have higher DEF, and it would not make sense if it did. If anything I might lower Virtue's DEF even further compared to its ATK. Virtue would be a '3rd Generation Heavy GN.' The Speed and Heavy designations relate to the boosts Ptolemaios would get by using a docked Gundam to augment it's abilities, just as it does in the series. I'll choose a different monster for this.

I will use 'Lab Transport' as an example of a Level-4 unit emphasizing DEF:
Lab Transport [Earth] Level-4
[Machine/5th Generation GN Support]
This card cannot be targeted by older MACHINEs. Target up to 2 monsters to dock with this monster to resupply (max 3 turns) OR target up to 2 monsters to return to the Graveyard or field. For each monster being resupplied, this monster gains 1000 DEF.
ATK: 800 DEF: 2300

I will use 'Kyrios' as an example of a Level-4 unit that is balanced:
GN-003 Kyrios [Wind] Level-4
[Machine/3rd Generation Speed GN]
This carn cannot be targeted by older MACHINEs. Choose 1 effect per turn: - Halve Kyrios's ATK; Kyrios can attack two monsters. - Once every other turn Kyrios does Piercing Damage.
ATK: 1800 DEF: 1800

Please do advise me on further fixes, if you have ideas in this regard. If you think this is better I will adjust the set along these lines and find official monsters in the other tiers to use as my guidelines.

Oh, thank you Zakuza13. Lets see what suggestions sgrug4 can give me as well, shall we? Obviously I like the cards as they are, however he may not be the only one to see them as being overpowered. I think I will make the adjusted set as separate. This is CB, so maybe ENCB.

Its not ABOUT a combined erm...Power level? The MAXIMUM atk a lvl 4 shuld have is 2000. That is, if it's a normal monster. If it's above 2000, it must have a backburn effect such as goblin attack force, where it has 0 def and goes into DEF mode.
Your deck is overpowered. 2300 ATK with no backburn but instead it has a...weird effect.
Ok again, i'm seeing all this fake OCG on your cards.
Umm. Your OCG isnt even Yugioh anymore. It's just...weird. Like from anotehr card game
Just read the effects on any card. It's not weird and it doesnt have fake words like so.
And they are clearly overpowered -_- Zakusa is just farming his post count

I have seen official cards, so really since you are not giving me specific examples or suggestions it is not helping me to understand the problem regarding power or the official grammar (maybe the OCG is less efficient than it could be. I do not own a deck or buy the cards, and it has been along time since I dueled anyone so I am more than a little out of the loop). If you are not going to supply examples, could you at least link me to a source where I can find them myself? I am putting an effort into trying to understand how to make these cards more reasonable. In order to succeed, I need help from yourself and other experienced card creators. On the other hand, if you do not have the time to help me out you can feel free to simply say so and I will stop wasting both of our time and effort.

And I was wrong about Kyrios's second effect (I forgot what it was supposed to do): it's supposed to target the opponent's DEF instead of its ATK.

it's hard to correct yours because i have no idea what the efects mean.

I guess it helps to know what the units can do in-series to understand the abilities I transferred through. It'd take too long to go through the cards and effects to translate them into OCG though, so I think we should forget fixing this part, at least for now. I mean, if you do not understand that Exia's GN-Sword allows it to negate energy-based barriers (by Traps, Spells, and monster effects) there are a lot of other things you probably won't be able to understand either. And in case you'd ask, I also have cards that negate physical-type barriers. These are ones like 'Iron Breakthrough' in my Avengers set.

If I knew the perameters for what is a reasonable ATK/DEF stat for an effect monster with a range of abilities to choose from I would fix these things myself. The OCG thing too, so long as I could fit everything onto the cards without shrinking the text so much as to make them completely unusable. But the official grammer can get really verbose, and besides that your confusion regarding the effects tells me there aren't any other cards like mine so I've nothing to base them on.

Well, it was fun, I guess. Seems it's pointless to post such cards here. Shall I try to delete my threads?

I wouldn't mind so much if they were his own version of Celestial Being gear (as mentioned right there in the thread title). Forgive my ignorance, but I do not even know which Gundam series these ones are from... but they are powerful. Still, you have to get 'em onto the field to use 'em. I need examples from all the monster tiers to help me fix my cards, if that was the idea.

Thanks. That is exactly the reason. I mean, I could tweak their ATK and DEF to a certain degree, but without their abilities they just wouldn't be the same units. I hope seeing the cards didn't spoil anything for you. Gundam 00 is my favourite Gundam series thus far. I admit, though, I have only watched Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories, Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny, and Gundam AGE. I'd bet someone here would say I haven't watched the best series yet -- but out of the series I have watched, none have units or pilots that can match those of Celestial Being.
