The set demonstrates the trouble one can get into with too many monster cards possible: I was using Wikipedia to go through the Avengers rosters and found that there were enough to make a deck entirely of monster cards. This meant having to choose, and to parse down even the ones I was making into leveling monsters. In the end, the deck I decided to print and test become my most complicated one ever. This is because I decided to use the monsters' effects, in combination with Counters, to power up the monsters I had to de-power in order to make them playable in the first place. There is also the matter of Fusions with more than five monsters. I made it possible by specifying that even if you had all five out on the field you also had to have the remaining materials in your hand for three whole turns. Not only have I been unable to make a single fusion summon in testing, I have never been able to keep more than four monsters on the field at once -- partially because I always took my Avengers Deck up against Ala Alba and/or Celestial Being. From this I learned that if you want to make a set as simple as possible, use as little amount of monsters as you possibly can in order to fit the limits of a deck better. Make sure you also have mid-season upgrade type of equip spells for each of them, even the first-tier monsters. This is the set that helped me learn that lesson... but it still has a few cool cards, even if it is so complicated you need a computer to track everything. Let me know what you think, as always. Xi-3 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Share Posted February 1, 2012 No comments yet? I know there are lots of cards. You can build pretty much any Avengers team you want with this set. The Counter system makes this my most complex set yet, though. The next time I go about an Avengers Deck I'm focusing on the current team so I can make them Level properly. But the lessons I learned making this set are what helped me to make my Celestial Being Deck strong enough to take on Ala Alba. Without squishing them, of course. I play it like size is equalized. Xi-3 Posted February 1, 2012 Author Report Share Posted February 1, 2012 If the card is 'Thor, Lord of the Aesir' then the name is different so there should not be a problem. If it is the same, then perhaps we can check to see if 'Thor the Thunderer' is taken. I'm not sure what other names he's been given in the Marvelverse that could apply to his early character. I believe that's why we try to imitate them by making our own cards based on the series we like. On the other hand, I would like to compare the cards I made to those others make. Xi-3 Posted February 15, 2012 Author Report Share Posted February 15, 2012 For this one I was not concerned with OCG at all. I just wanted to translate as many Avengers as possible into cards. The result is that there are so many monsters it's practically impossible to build a balanced deck. The cards also rely too much on Counters for comfort, but I could not think of another way to do it if I wanted to include as many Avengers as I could. If I was to redo the set, I would focus just on the current roster, and even that has a lot of members. The Avengers Academy and its staff could also form a separate deck. If there is a way to use OCG and still fit their effects onto the cards, bravo. If not, well, I was ignorant of OCG anyway. The set's too large and too complex to undertake a complete correction of these guys without dedicating about a week solid to it. Certainly not my best work. That's sort of tricky (arranging by roster), because of the ones who stayed while others joined, or whatever else there was. I don't think anyone will argue that there aren't a lot of Avengers. For next time I am definitely focusing only on the current roster for the New Avengers (as opposed to Secret Avengers or Avengers Academy). To some degree I think it'd be even worse to attempt to card the X-Men, there being so many of them. I do not plan on trying. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The effects are understandable but not in the correct OCG terms. Some pictures are okay and others are not mainly the ones with no back ground. Xi-3 Posted February 19, 2012 Author Report Share Posted February 19, 2012 Yeah, it can be hard finding some pictures. Curiously, some with the black backgrounds started out with white backgrounds. They changed to black after I did my cropping with MS Paint. You must mean the main Avengers title. Spider-Man is a member as of the Breakout event, as a New Avenger. He was also an unregistered Secret Avenger during the Dark Reign and Siege events. The funny thing is that Tony convinced him to reveal his identity, but then Mephisto reversed it as part of the deal he made with Pete and MJ to save Aunt May's life in exchange for their relationship. Nobody knows Pete's Spider-Man except himself, MJ, and a few Avengers. Even Osbourn doesn't know anymore. Well okay, the Venom symbiote still knows (its bond with Peter predates his marriage to MJ), but it chooses whether or not to share the information with its hosts. I only managed to make leveling monsters of the Founding Avengers. I would try the same with the current roster of the New Avengers later on, once I have the time. I just have to decide how I'm going to do it, because it's not as simple as it was with Iron Man (the different armours) or Hank Pym (different suits for different levels). Spider-Man might actually be one of the easiest to do, since I can have different levels wearing different suits. I think the Iron Spider suit is the most powerful of the set, although he didn't get to use it for very long. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
