Video Game Financial Decisions (and things)

Alright. So, recently, I began playing the F2P World of Warcraft. My cousin and her boyfriend both play it, and they'd give me a hand, so I thought "Why not?"

Well, I hit Level 20 today, and it won't let me go any farther. However, I really want to. So I figured, "Why don't I just sell some of my old 360 stuff and buy it? And my allowance (15 USD a month) would cover the fee." But this is where I hit a roadblock.

I also wanted to get a 3DS and Kid Icarus: Uprising when it comes out. I would also have to sell some of my old 360 stuff to do this. Both decisions would deplete my funds, and I can only manage one.

World of Warcraft
Pros:
-Hours upon Hours of gameplay
-Family plays it
-Would be able to sell less of my 360 stuff

Cons:
-Monthly fee

3DS
Pros:
-Kid Icarus: Uprising (DO WANT)
-StreetPass, other console features
-More than one game

Cons:
-Would have to sell more of my 360 stuff (more expensive in general)
-NO family members have nor play it
-Have to pay for each new game I buy (derp)

So, YCM. What do you think?

great, more WoW

I'd like to know just what you're implying with this comment. >_>

personally you shouldn't do that due to the constant pay, it'll suck your wallet dry

As I said, I get a monthly allowance. It's 15 bucks, and since WoW is only 12 a month, I'd still have some money left over. I don't buy very much anyway.

As much as I may hate WoW, dislike MMOs in general and think monthly costs is dumb...

If you enjoy WoW and know you'll enjoy it more, and you have friends/etc who play it, and you are sure you can afford it (in the LONG TERM!) then I'd say a subscription might be better than a more expensive 3DS that you might not like as much.

However, WoW may be more of a hassle.

Since my parents are the ones that provide the subscription fee (monthly allowance yadda yadda), they'd have to be the one to pay for it. This would need to be done through online transactions, something my parents do NOT like doing in the slightest.

It seems for each option, I'm able to find SOMETHING that could go wrong. =_=

I'll actually consult my parents about this. Probably should've tried that first anyway. :/

I'm rather biased because I think WoW is ridiculously stupid, but even so, I would say go for the 3DS.

Learning to build up funds rather than rely on an allowance is far more important. Monthly fees teach no independence for these things. It's basically just a drain on finances.

But I think whatever you enjoy better, just go for it.

Rai, believe me, if it weren't for the Child Labor laws, I'd be working right now. I've always liked working for money outside of my house for some reason. So I don't really rely on my allowance anyway.

...Makes me think. Have any of you hatin' folks even tried WoW? :/

Oi, that's harsh bro.

Besides, even though my cousin and her boyfriend have both played it for a long time, they both live fulfilling lives. It's all about moderation, something I'm...

...not too good at. ._. But that's because I've never TRIED moderating. Once I try, I'll succeed.

You need to gain some skills in moderating before taking something as big as a full MMO. I thought I could moderate when I was playing Runescape. However, I ended up losing my moderating skills. So, you should start simply with a 3DS. When you have worked on your moderation ability, then you can go for WoW.

Just because you happened to fail at it doesn't mean I will.

Besides. I don't see a reason why not. After all, it's not like it'd affect my grades or anything of the sort. I have to get that out of the way before I'm even allowed to touch video games.

However, I leaning more towards the 3DS at the moment. The thought of a looming monthly fee is starting to get to me. *looks over shoulder*

It's not if you fail once you start moderating, it's if you ever even care enough to start doing stuff in moderation.
