[Finished]Archetype competition [Finished, LOCK]

Dust42

Recommended Posts

the goal of this competition is to create a small set of cards that create an archetype. An archetype consists of cards of similar theme that all work together, like the Elemental Hero archetype, the Lightsworn archetype, the Fortune Lady archetype, the Guardian archetype, and the Six Samurai archetype.

The only criteria for this archetype is that the cards:

1.Follow a theme
2.Support each other in some way, shape or form

now, keep it small, make sure that, at max, there is only 10 cards, and that, at least, there are 3 cards. Real cards can be part of your archetype, but they still must follow the theme. At least 2 cards must be original and not real.

Entry fee: 10 points (to enter, click my name, then click the "donate points button" and donate the points, you will then be entered)

1st place prize: number of people who entered x8
2nd place prize: 10 points
3rd place prize: 5 points

I will judge you based on the following:

1. balancing. No overpowered cards
2. formatting. Make sure that it's like a real Yugioh card (for example, the single digits on atk/def should always be 0), also, your theme consistency will be judged here
3. Resonance. How well the cards perform together. Do too well in this category and it will harm balancing.

I will not judge with points.

The theme can be anything (with the exception of naked people, etc.)

good luck to you.

Participants:

1. newhat
2. xi-3
3. Damage Inc.

Do you want both Monster Cards and Spell/Trap Cards?
doesn't matter what the archetype consists of, but it must be able to perform independently (all equip cards and no monster isn't independent)

Lets see. If I adapt my Powerpuff cards I have:
- 3 low-level monsters
- 3 equip spells
- 3 high-level monsters
- 2 fusion monsters
Which means I have to omit 1 card. Probably the low-level fusion, then. If this is permissible then please do tell me and I will send the points and start adapting.

I see nothing wrong with that.

Do you want me to send the points, or wait to see if we get 2 more people before I do?

Meh. Your choice, or we could simply extend the deadline...

I'll give it a try. I hope my cards will satisfy.

Go for it :)

Image uploader was uncooperative for a bit but clicking it over and over did the trick. Postan.

Sigh, I'm in as well, points sent.
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. When this card is banished: increase the ATK of every ".exe" monster you control by 600 until the End Phase. When this card is Special Summoned: it can attack your opponent's Life Points directly this turn. The Battle Damage this card inflicts to your opponent is halved.

"X Core.exe" + 2 non-Tuner monsters.
If 2 or more Synchro Materials usef for this card are ".exe" monsters: this card's original ATK becomes 3200. When this card declares an attack: you can pay half your Life Points to destroy every Set card on the field. Your opponent cannot activate card effects in response to this card's effect's activation.
You basically start by banishing and create this huge combo which culminates on a giant beatstick thingy.

What's the name of your Synchro Monster? I can't read it!

S'alright. The text colour changes when you change the Rarity. I try to use the most visible ones even if it doesn't match the actual Rarity of the card -- but I mean, I usually make cards that are unique anyway, which means there's only 1 of them in a deck -- no copies. The only copies are the cards that are staples to a deck, like attack blockers and effect negaters. And cards that bring out higher-level versions of low-level monsters. So I use white text on my Fusion Monsters.

gtg at the moment, but I'll announce the winners without any explanation.

1.newhat
2.Damage Inc.
3.Xi-3

I'll explain and distribute points when I return.

ok, I'm back.

Xi-3. Although you had the most cards with the most intricate effects, the intricate effects had little to do with each other. They got attack/defense boosts and had support cards that helped each other, but other than that, they aren't very helpful to each other. On top of that, you made them a trio of cards that were supposed to be equal, yet Blossom gives more boosts that bubbles or buttercup. Why not 250 atk and def instead of 500?

Damage Inc. These cards are all a step in the right direction, but there are so few... They all seem to rely on one of the other particular cards, and it really hampers usefulness if 4 cards all depend on 1 card. (only one of them, Z striker, can banish, yet they all have effects revolving around it. Z striker isn't even continuous, he's 1 use only. The archetype is supposed to perform independently. Also, the 4 star 2400 attack monster can't even be used, because Z striker can't banish card in your hand.

newhat: these Jellies are great. The only improvement I can think to make would be to help the jellies get things to the grave, because otherwise you're summoning them just to die, (though it is the only thing that keeps it from being OP/realistic with 3 star 1900 attack monsters.)

Yes. Yes it is: the contest is over. Mind you, there could be a lot more just like it.

Dust, the boosts the Girls give each other depend on their personalities, and it all culminates with the Fusion version's full 4000. I could tweak the amount they get as boosts, but it's not like it matters now. Their Tier-1 versions had to be depowered by a significant amount. Fortunately their PPGZ versions made that much easier, and their abilities depend mostly on their equipment. The teenaged versions are more a reflection of the classic CN versions.

This was a fun contest, though, so I don't mind coming in last.
Cool. I was thinking you could use Fish and Swaps to dump Jellies from your hand to the Graveyard. Fish and Swaps is one of the only 1-for-1 discard-costed cards I know and it needs to see more play!
I suppose it's true that they were done properly in that they do justice to the characters they are.
