I think the biggest advantage they had was the fact that while the Germa were an issue everyone was focusing on Sanji and Luffy. The news of Luffy's win (which was amazing btw) only furthered that. And like was said in the last chapter, being distracted is how you can go down really fast.

I'm curious how they'll get out though since they are going to have their full attention soon.

Well this is what happens when Germa is actually armed and in their special suits and stuff, they got caught unawares and without their stuff at the wedding before. Now they're serious. You gotta remember that they're bio engineered superhumans, and since Sanji was a failure and had to get as strong as he is the old fashioned way, I'd wager a guess that they're all at least stronger than Sanji.

They had the suits during the wedding, but again they were the ones on the back foot so things weren't going there way. Plus Katakuri was there. We know Sanji is stronger than Yonji, at least without his suit. My guess is Sanji is pretty close to their power level.

Sorry guess I just thinking of at first, when they were captured, they were all in normal wedding attire with no gear.

Even so, back then they were all focused on getting away with the Straw Hats saving them being one of the objectives. Now Germa's got their fleet and everything so they're super serious.

How could you forget the transformation. That is like classic henshin.

I kid though. They didn't get a ton of focus during the wedding and were on the back foot. They've been in battle mode for hours now so they'd certainly have the mental advantage, and should be a fair bit more rested than the Straw Hats.

I'm a bored nerd, so I thought up a roster for a One Piece FighterZ video game (PirateZ?)

[spoiler=Roster]

All 10 current Straw Hats

Ace
Akainu
Aokiji
Bartolomeo
Boa Hancock
Buggy
Doflamingo
Dogtooth
Jimbei
Law
Mihawk
Sabo
Smoker

Gear 4th Luffy

Not sure they'd put in Blackbeard or the other Yonko in yet. That's the thing, OP has so many characters who'd make for good character picks.

DLC:

Bon Clay
Crocodile
Eneru
Gecko Moriah
Kuma
Lucci
Shanks
Whitebeard

[spoiler=899]Oh damn, I completely forgot the Sun Pirates were under the sea. Have we even seen them since they stopped those underwater snails or whatever they were?

Luffy's reaction to Judge was great, of course if Judge mentioned the cooking Luffy would pretty much only think about that. Also we still can't see Judge's full eyebrows yet cuz of those darn bandages, I want to know how they curl!

And it looks like Big Mom will finally eat the came come chapter 900!

Such a great chapter. Luffy's reaction was too perfect and really does show off how great a character he is. While Sanji hasn't done much fighting it is always nice to see him being able to match the higher ups in Mom's crew.

Chapter 900 next week. That is so insane. Part of me hopes it is the "Nth Person chapter" since having number 9 on 900 is perfect. Also I'm hoping Mom will finally eat that cake. Seems like good notes to end the arc off on.

I love how Oda's still able to embellish Luffy's character 900 chapters later with little touches like that. Moments like these are a great reminder on how great a lead and character he is.

I'd be down with Jimbe officially being inducted in for chapter 900. His crew helping him escape will be a nice send-off.

[spoiler=900]Holy sheet everything has gone wrong, and even worse, THERE'S A BREAK NEXT WEEK!!!

I guess this is what happens when all the protagonist Big Damn Hero moments run out and the Big Mom Pirates get their sheet together. Franky's not gonna be happy about the Sunny.

I'll believe that ending when I see it. Still, that was clearly the swan song for the arc. It is a nice bookend since a musical number is where the arc started.

Break next week doesn't surprise me. That said GAH!!!!!! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!

I've heard that it's a hallucination, but if that's the case, why is Judge's opponent's shaded? Why would you shade a hallucination? Judge vs 2 sweet commanders (well ex @snack) is gonna be amazing

I merged those two posts. No reason they should be one. Not sure how to make the background work, but everything should be right.

[spoiler=Answer]

The person seems to small to be Oven. Not to mention he is likely still on the island itself.

Sorry, dunno how that happened, I was cropping the second image not to spoil more than I had to and the auto-merge time must have expired

Plot twist: We switch to Wano and don't find out what happened for two years.

I would not be shocked if Reverie starts next chapter and we have a Zou-length arc to break from this.

[spoiler=900]

Bad end indeed. Kudos to Oda for hoodwinking his entire audience. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

I do believe they'll all make it out okay and there'll be an explanation, but still...damn. What a way to end the arc. My guess is they all squeezed in the submarine below deck and got out in the nick of time. Maybe Luffy's new foresight helped him realize they had to abandon ship.

Goes to show you can't mess with Yonko and totally get away with it.

And as much as I'd hate to see the Sunny go...I think I'd love that too. They don't get to part ways like with Merry, they unceremoniously lose it and that's their major loss and consequence for picking a fight with the Big Mom Pirates.

And Franky can build them a new ship by the time they leave Wano.

Great chapter, caught me off guard!

  • 2 weeks later...

[spoiler=901]

Aha, it was a trick! But damn, they're really hammering in the end of the Sun Pirates here. I've been wondering if Jinbe would die at some point. I could see that happening here as a major blow to the good guys for messing in Big Mom's territory, though it's possible Jinbe will manage to escape and join up later. I could see the joke too that Jinbe will join like way later after many arcs, it just keeps getting teased for a few years. Let Zoro and Sanji power up a bit so him joining doesn't feel like it's messing with that dynamic.

What this chapter makes me think is we will get a clear-cut resolution of the Straw Hats escaping. Sun Pirates will either be shown falling or we won't know their fate for a while.

But damn, this chase has been going on for a while now. I don't mind it though because there's been interesting twists every week. I'm ready for Reverie though, I'm so pumped for the new batch of lore we'll get.

While part of me does want the arc to end already, I DO like that Oda is showing that messing with Big Mom has massive consequences. I'm sure Jinbe is going to be fine though. Though I do wonder when he'll get his 9th person chapter. Also curious if/when we'll get the 10th member. ALL the way back in chapter 1 Luffy said he wanted 10 people and I'm expecting Oda to still hold to that.

I'm glad someone else is holding him to that number too.

We should get 2 more crew members to cap off the crew. Jinbe would be good for one of them. IMO one more girl would work. Maybe make her inhuman since everyone Chopper onward has been subhuman (besides Robin).

Carrot would've been good...but I don't think she'll join. Giving her more of a back-story would feel a little crammed in at this point and every crew member had some sort of personal arc that tied in with the bigger conflict at hand before joining. She fits in with Pedro and Kin'emon as big, separate supporters for the crew.

I wouldn't mind a swordswoman from Wano joining. That could touch on the 3 Musketeers thing that was teased with Zoro, Brooke, and Kin'emon.

Speaking of, I think it'd be cool if we got some more focus on Zoro next arc like we did with Sanji for Whole Cake arc.

With the last chapter I was ready for the arc to end, and not only did it end holy crap was this an insanely good chapter. Not 1, not 2, but 3 shots to the heart over the course of the chapter. Between that and the song interwoven throughout this was not only an exception chapter but an amazing way to end off what is, in my opinion, one of the best arcs in One Piece.

[spoiler=902]Man, great way to end the arc. Got some feels for Pedro (I guess he's not gonna pull a Pell on us after all) right off the bat, and it's a shame but it looks like Jinbei will have to wait a bit before he joins the crew proper and reunites with everyone.

I really liked the moment between Brulee and Katakuri, it was really touching. Katakuri hiding his mouth and appearing to never lay down in order to be an indomitable threat all to keep his siblings safe was really sweet. And I've always liked Brulee, she's been a very funny hostage, but that part made her very endearing at the end.

It was really rough seeing how Pudding ended up in all this. At least it doesn't seem like she removed all of Sanji's memories of her, only of her request to kiss him. We see the memories of her taking out his cigarette before the kiss and Sanji still knows who she is and was only confused about her request since he doesn't remember it already happening. I'm really hoping that we see her again and that she and Sanji can actually get together. If there's anyone who would be Sanji's true love I think Pudding would be fantastic for it.

The parallel between Zeff cooking for those pirates and Sanji cooking for his crew was really nice, too. A much better father figure than Judge'll ever be. "He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy."

[spoiler=902]

Damn, I found this chapter so strong. The bond between Brulee and Katakuri. Seems those siblings are particularly close to each other compared to the other siblings, unless Brulee is just nice with every sibling. I find funny that both played a role in helping the Straw Hats: 1 as hostage, the other strengthening them.

Pudding was so unfair, taking the memories of the heavily implied kiss. Pudding x Sanji OTP. IIRC there is no lady who has been this close to Sanji, right? Viola from the previous arc comes to mind, but it wasn't a deep relationship and it kind of turned into political affair.

Really, Straw Hats shook the Charlottes to the core with this adventure, and I would say even made a couple of allies within them. At the very least Pudding and Katakuri, the latter indirectly by letting them go to grow.
