Devil Numbers - My Version of "Dark Xyz's"

This is based on a design I had for a card I had originally set as a one-shot individual design, as in it was only for just ONE card (an evil King Hope for an Edo Phoenix-level rival to Yuma). However, recently I reworked the card and the mechanic in order to "mass produce" more cards of the same theme. I kept the surname of the original card and set it as the name of the mechanic and title to the other cards in the series, that series being "DEVIL NUMBERS!"

"Treat also as Demon-Type in all locations and under all conditions. Must first be Xyz Summoned by banishing 2 DARK monsters (1 from your hand and 1 from your Graveyard), with Levels equal to or higher than this card's Rank, and using a monster you control with a Level equal to this card's Rank to this card as the Xyz Material. This card can only have a maximum of 3 Xyz Materials attached. Once per turn, unless you activated this effect during your previous turn: You may attach up to 2 DARK monsters from your Deck with Levels less than the Rank of this card to it as Xyz Materials."

I loved the idea so much I even made a SUMMONING SPEECH for it (ala 5D's):

- Birth, the flame yet ignited.
- Death, the flame long extinguished.
- Life, bathe in darkness one whose flame still burns.
- Through the power of the Black Trinity, open the black portal and go forth to build the Devil's Network.

Obviously there's a animation sequence followed up by someone yelling "XYZ SHOKAN!!" and the card's name.

The speech is written to reference (thus symbolize) how the mechanic works. One monster from your hand symbolizing Time before Birth (because the monster is in hand where they "live" before getting to be summoned). One monster from the Graveyard symbolizing time during Death (because the monster dead and his life has been extinguished, but the soul lives on). The monster that becomes the Xyz Material is symbolically bathed in the darkness from the banished monsters. Trinity is obviously because it's 3 monsters and then we keep with the whole "build the Network" scheme.

The first few (at least 6, not posted all at once) monsters I post will be based on evil/demonic versions of various existing Numbers, but I will (at some point) post some of my original design Devil Numbers.

Comment bump. I will post more of the other Devil Numbers this week. I am also still working out the original concept Devil Numbers, but that is a little trickier since I have no ideas for them or what to base them on yet. I hadn't intended to make "Numbers" of my own in general in the first place. Numbers themselves are anime cards in the first place (not that they have a theme of course).

I was hoping someone at least liked the effort put in on the theme and aesthetic. The Summoning Speech alone is awesome.

Its an interesting concept. Like the basic Dark deck it uses advance movements, but at least I think it goes well with the Dark theme. Im guessing it would need good draw support and monsters that are easily special summoned since you need grave, hand and field to work it. Still i find its a pretty interesting concept, even though I never used Dark themed decks. My question is, since they are Xyz monsters, are all the devil numbers Dark element or will some of them vary?

EDIT: oh yeah, and the summoning speech feels like it was taken out of the actual series. it sounds very dark. i like the way you kept the whole, building the Xyz network.

I wish to plug them into YVD or the Duel Portal to try them because they may or may not be too hard to use. In "mental" play-testing, it might be hard to pull them out on the fly to save yourself.

For example: The First Card needs me to have a Level 4 or higher DARK monster in my hand, Level 4 or higher DARK in my GY and then a 4 on the field, that's fine, but that is easier and it could still be Bottomless'd, but if you want go with Rank 5 or higher, that adds to the difficulty like crazy. I did make a Rank 9 Devil Number already, so that means using a lot of Level 9 or higher monsters (I think in a real deck, I would be using Exodius and Level Manipulators on field). It's all a tricky area to deal with. Speed vs power.

I suppose Gagaga Magician and Exodius would be two of the best tools I could use in the same Deck (for Rank 8 or less only though). I'd need manipulators after that. Rank 12 Devil Numbers would need to be GOD cards.

I've now added Devil Number 12 and Devil Number 61 to the first post (check above for update).

I'm actually quite happy with how 61 works and feel it is quite nice to play around with (especially if used with Owner's Seal/Remove Brainwashing). like the other Devil Number, 61 is a corruption of Number 61: Volcasaurus, but the reversed effect in this case comes out to be a better, more respectable strategy (and more fair... on paper) than the original.

i absolutely love the artwork, where do you find these?

also i was thinking, maybe they dont have to be completely direct opposites of their original numbers, maybe you can make them all rank 4 and just have the rest of the card be opposite... its just an idea

also, the new Number 107: Galaxy Eyes Tachyon Dragon appeared on the series in japan, it would be cool to see a Devil Number 107... just sayin :D

They are corruptions of the originals... darkness poisoning them at their core and they are changed into demonic forms. Plus it doesn't make sense to change the Ranks since it also helps the balance of the cards.

Remember that the Evilswarms are demonic Swarm-infested versions of monsters from the rest of the Duel Terminals, so most of the stats are the same. The "retrained" versions concept is done to death in YGO anyway.

Number 107 is already sort of evil (I don't even want to know if we really would get Neo Tachyon Dragon too), I think a Devil Number of him would be too much, but the effect would be a corruption of the original anyway. The "dark advantage" to my Devil Numbers is that they can refuel their own Xyz Materials, so whatever effect I do will have to be something that is ok to use since they will refuel and reuse its usage. Especially higher number Ranks since they eat lower number Levels for the refuel (so the Rank 9 I made, eats 8 or lower monsters, which means any monster in the Deck basically is fuel). So even as hard as Rank 9 is to get out, it can eat anything it wants to renew its power and use its effect again. It's things to consider for balance.

I'm working on a card, that needs [background=rgb(251, 253, 254)]Devil Number 39: Dark Devil Emperor - Hope End[/background] to attack before it can activate, but could take out all DARK monsters on the field at once.
How do you mean? You're making a card that works off cards like mine or you are making an anti-DARK card? Are you asking me something specific?

if the card is designed only to counter the Devil Numbers, then its not a really good card since it would only work on them and not on other decks... besides the Devil Numbers are powerful cards with out-of-this-world powers. If they fell into the wrong hands, it could mean the end of the world as we know it.

Just pointing out that I have a card that can stop your "Devil Numbers" .
They aren't exactly invincible, though current real life support would certainly make them even more powerful and help a deck made with them come along, but I wouldn't make the cards themselves to be invincible anyway or that would be overpowered.

New update: Check *First* Post, dated for today.

And so we have our next two Devil Numbers. Black Lightning Dragon is obviously Thunder Spark Dragon except actually USABLE (once you get it out anyway). However I most proud of Devil Number 9. Dyson's Sphere is a weird card in real life but I did like it seeing it in the anime, unfortunately, you only get to see it used well ONCE (Kaito vs V aka Chris) since after that, Kaito is cheated by Tron during their Duel and it is destroyed again. However, Devil Number 9 wouldn't have had that problem.

Admittedly, a Devil Number Rank 9 WOULD be one of the harder Devils to pull out, but because of that is it truly supposed to be something of a boss and the effect is allowed to be meaner and I think it is. The effect is definitely an evil take on Dyson Sphere's original effect but the Halving-LP effect is supposed to opposite the original attack directly effect (goes from attacking to dealing damage by not attacking). Turning the whole thing into something of a BOMB. It sits around protecting itself from destruction and assault all while "CHARGING UP ITS LAZERS!" and then once it reaches full power, UNLEASH THE KRAKEN! Due to nature of the "refueling" power, it SHOULD take 4 turns to recharge WITHOUT external support (first use the effect, next turn, can't gather ORU's = 1, next turn, gather 2 ORU's = 2, next turn, can't gather ORU's = 3, next turn you finally gather the last ORU and use the effect again = 4). As such, the protection is quite necessary less you just have a big monster that just sits there because the primarily protection effect NEEDS ORU's attached and you will go at least 2 opponent's turns WITHOUT them making it a sitting duck without the secondary protection. All and all between the Summoning Conditions and the effects and the waiting involved in getting to its "Soul Carve Laser" effect make it rather balanced I think but a fair payoff.
