You are now reading 'At The World's End'...don't read this if you are too near infront of the screen and if the lights are off >_<
A trickle of sweat flowed down my cheeks as I took out a deep sigh. The distant groaning outside was disturbing the heck out of me. The room was dark and relatively cold, the smell of fresh blood was lingering around. I took out my cellphone, the dim light coming off from the screen illuminated the room. No signal. I grumbled irritably as I placed the phone back inside my pocket. A black-haired girl beside me grabbed my hand, her blue eyes sparkled like the ocean as it let out a stream of tears.

"Is there a way out from here?" She asked, her other hand was pressing a blood-stained cloth against her right arm. "We have to find Akiko."

"The only way out here is by the front door," I cracked up my head, choosing better words to describe the situation. "But unfortunately we're surrounded by them so we can't use that door for now. I wanted to call Charles and Mark since I know they have with them their cellphones but we're out of signal---"

"What will we do now?" She moaned. "I'm worried, Kazuma-kun. What if they already got her?"

I pressed up my lips. "Don't think like that, Miharu-chan. Akiko's a strong girl, there's no doubt that she might've survived this attack."

"Kazuma-kun," Miharu gripped my hand harder, her face was blushing red. "You're right but I couldn't help worrying. I'm her older sister and I suppose to be protecting her but---" She groaned, her left hand was almost coated with blood and the pain of her wound could be simply describe just by looking at her face.

"Are you okay?" I caught her before she lose her balance. Her eyes were convulsing and her teeth were chattering. I placed my hand above her forehead which felt really hot, informing me that she was actually suffering a high fever. A small drip of blood trickled down from her wound and it splattered its way down into the dark pavement. Miharu's condition was horrible and she might die if I didn't do something.

"I'm definitely okay, Kazuma-kun. She only got bitten off a small piece of me. No big deal." She answered with a weak smile on her lips. But the black circles on her eyes were fading, her white skin started to clot. Miharu's gotta be kidding me. No one looks okay with that horrible situation. "We really have to find my sister."

"No, you're not okay. Let me fix you up." I let her sat down the cold pavement, her back against the wall. I took out my cellphone and flicked its light above her arm, to observe her wound more carefully.

I started removing the cloth covering her wound but she snatched my hand which took a lot of her energy. "No, don't touch my wound."

"But how can I treat your wound if you won't let me touch it?"

"I know you already, Kazuma-kun." She covered her mouth as she coughed, which splatted an incredible amount of blood all over her palm. I flinched but she stayed still. "You don't know anything about first-aid procedures. And besides, you might get infected."

"I want to save you." I ripped my white uniform's sleeve and started tying up her wounds. "Just let me save you."

Miharu grumbled as she rested her head against the wall. Her eyes looked terrible when the pupils were almost gone. "I want to save you too but first, listen to me. My situation is horrible and I can feel that my end is near."

"What are you talking about?"

"I'm giving you this ring." Miharu took out a silver ring from the pocket of her grey skirt and handed it to me. "Please keep it as a remembrance--"

"How many times I have to tell you, you won't turn to one of them!" I exclaimed as I finished wrapping up her wound. "I will never let you turn to one of them."

"I hope so but it all happened to everyone." She caressed my head gently. There's a mix of fear on her voice but she never let that one took the chance to ruin me. "I got bitten, so I'll definitely turn into one of them. Just look on the symptoms happening to me."

"I know about that but aren't you worried about Akiko?" I raised up my head, trying to look collected. "Do you want to see your sister again?"

She didn't talk but she nodded. I didn't really know what to do now, Miharu was actually dying. But something about her kept on amazing me. Even though her situation was terrible, she's still worrying about me. Tears started to flow out of my eyes. My heart was pounding a lot, my breathing became heavier. She closed her eyes slowly, death was actually taking her away.

I dropped my cellphone, making a clattering sound against the pavement.

"Before you die, is there anything you want me to do for you?" I clasped my hand, my eyes were blazing with anger. I hoped that she answer avenge my death or something but she failed to come up with my expectation.

But instead, she answered; "Ki-kill me be-before I-I tu-turn and t-take care of m-my si-sister f-for me."

She stuttered as her voice died out. I held her hands near my face and nuzzled it against my cheeks.

"Is that your request, huh?" I let go off her hands as she closed her eyes. Miharu nodded, veins started appearing from her neck up to her ears. "Your wish is granted."

"Thank you, Kazuma-kun." She murmured, which sent me crying. I remembered the days she used to end up her statements by kissing me in my cheeks. But now, it seemed she's incapable of doing that. She was weakened and dying after all. "I'm sorry I can't kiss you---"

"But just remember that..." She picked my cheek gently and smiled her last brilliant smile. "I l-love you..."

I smiled, my voice became softer. "I love you too..."

I took the baseball bat from the corner of the room. Its edge was covered with blood and tissues. My hands were shaking as I gripped its handle. I can't kill her but...it has to be done. I walked towards her, the bat above her head. I stared to her restless face, her eyes lost its significance: to be pretty as long as possible. The groaning outside became louder than it was before. The bat weighed heavy but if I didn't kill her now, she might turn right away and my promise won't be fulfilled.

"I will find your sister and I'll take care of her..." I released a heavy blow towards her temple, which ended her life....

************************************

I covered Miharu's body with my coat, bid my last goodbye and left to open the door. I killed her which might torture me for the rest of my life but, She wanted for it and there's no choice left to save her. I did the right choice.

I opened the door and the sunlight enlightened my face. The baseball bat that I used to end Miharu's life was still on my grasps, the tip was covered with her precious blood. Infront of me, there were 6 or 7 zombies lingering like stray dogs, their clothes shredded, their bodies filled with wounds and bloods.

This apocalypse destroyed my life.

As I took my first step outside, they somehow detected me. They turned at me, raised their arms, hands clawed like a beast. They started approaching me as they released a shrieking groan. I raised the baseball bat, my arms were firm. There's no turning back, I'm ready to find Akiko so I can fulfill my promise to Miharu.

At the World's end, I lost an important person in my life.

Interesting. I like it so far, but then again, this is just the first paragraph.

"Is there a way out from here?" She asked, her other hand was pressing a blood-stained cloth against her right arm. "We have to find Akiko." Blood-stained? Uh oh. Someone got a boo-boo.

"The only way out here is by the front door," I cracked up my head, choosing better words to describe the situation. "But unfortunately we're surrounded by them so we can't use that door for now. I wanted to call Charles and Mark since I know they have with them their cellphones but we're out of signal---" Who's them? I must read further.

"What will we do now?" She moaned. "I'm worried, Kazuma-kun. What if they already got her?" GODDAMMIT. I WANNA KNOW WHO THEY ARE! Also, for some reason, I read honorifics weird. Dunno, they just roll off the tounge a bit oddly for me.

I pressed up my lips. "Don't think like that, Miharu-chan. Akiko's a strong girl, there's no doubt that she might've survived this attack." More honorifics. I'm just gonna ignore them now.

Wait, are these two dating or something? And that wound looks pretty bad.

Thank you Captain Obvious. You have successfully determined that this poor girl is wounded by some unknown source, and is bleeding pretty damn bad.

"We really have to find my sister." Yes, because you should always go derping around unknown places when you're bleeding to death. God forbid that main characters do anything smart. Wait. *re-reads that first sentance* These things BITE? No. NO. This is NOT going to be vampire related.

"No, you're not okay. Let me fix you up." I let her sat down the cold pavement, her back against the wall. I took out my cellphone and flicked its light above her arm, to observe her wound more carefully. Well at least someone here has some common sense.

I started removing the cloth covering her wound but she snatched my hand which took a lot of her energy. "No, don't touch my wound." Well he kind of has to.

"But how can I treat your wound if you won't let me touch it?" See?

"I know you already, Kazuma-kun." She covered her mouth as she coughed, which splatted an incredible amount of blood all over her palm. I flinched but she stayed still. "You don't know anything about first-aid procedures. And besides, you might get infected." Infected with what? And he should at least know how to use a torquinet.

"I want to save you." I ripped my white uniform's sleeve and started tying up her wounds. "Just let me save you." See? Told you.

Miharu grumbled as she rested her head against the wall. Her eyes looked terrible when the pupils were almost gone. "I want to save you too but first, listen to me. My situation is horrible and I can feel that my end is near." Brilliant. We have our first death coming right up. AND WE HAVE NO IDEA WHO THIS CHICK IS.

"What are you talking about?" She's obviously dying, dummy.

"I'm giving you this ring." Miharu took out a silver ring from the pocket of her grey skirt and handed it to me. "Please keep it as a remembrance--" Dawww.

"How many times I have to tell you, you won't turn to one of them!" I exclaimed as I finished wrapping up her wound. "I will never let you turn to one of them." If this turns out to be a vampire thing, I swear to god...

"I hope so but it all happened to everyone." She caressed my head gently. There's a mix of fear on her voice but she never let that one took the chance to ruin me. "I got bitten, so I'll definitely turn into one of them. Just look on the symptoms happening to me." OH GOOD GODS.

"I know about that but aren't you worried about Akiko?" I raised up my head, trying to look collected. "Do you want to see your sister again?" Now thats just cruel, dude.

No comment.

I dropped my cellphone, making a clattering sound against the pavement.

"Before you die, is there anything you want me to do for you?" I clasped my hand, my eyes were blazing with anger. I hoped that she answer revenge my death or something but she failed to come up with my expectation. The word is 'avenge'. Not 'revenge'.

But instead, she answered; "Ki-kill me be-before I-I tu-turn and t-take care of m-my si-sister f-for me." NO FREAKING VAMPIRES.

She stuttered as her voice died out. I held her hands near my face and nuzzled it against my cheeks. I now think these guys are dating.

"Is that your request, huh?" I let go off her hands as she closed her eyes. Miharu nodded, veins started appearing from her neck up to her ears. "Your wish is granted." Oh oh. Here it comes...

"Thank you, Kazuma-kun." She murmured, which sent me crying. I remembered the days she used to end up her statements by kissing me in my cheeks. But now, it seemed she's incapable of doing that. She was weakened and dying after all. "I'm sorry I can't kiss you---" I'm not really impressed here.

"But just remember that..." She picked my cheek gently and smiled her last brilliant smile. "I l-love you..." No comment.

I smiled, my voice became softer. "I love you too..." No comment.

The groaning outside became louder than it was before. The bat weighed heavy but if I didn't kill her now, she might turn right away and my promise won't be fulfilled. A baseball bat. You're gonna kill her with a baseball bat. Jeezus man.

"I will find your sister and I'll take care of her..." I released a heavy blow towards her temple, which ended her life.... No comment.

************************************

I covered Miharu's body with my coat, bid my last goodbye and left to open the door. I killed her which might torture me for the rest of my life but, She wanted for it and there's no choice left to save her. I did the right choice. Yes, becuase otherwise she would have turned into an Unnamed Monster That Is Most Likely Vampires.

Oh. Zombies. That isnt much better, but at least it isnt vampires.

This apocalypse destroyed my life. Another Zombie Apocalypse story. Great. This better have some kind of twist in it.

Still no comment.

Well, this was decent. Certainly a notch above the usual s*** you see in here, but it wasnt anything remarkable either.

One suggestion, never rush to post/write a chapter. Take the time to proofread it, change what you want, etc.

Updating:
"We have a transfer student today." My homeroom teacher, Mr. Tadayoshi Nakajima said as the whole class stopped on chatting for awhile to listen. He looked like a teacher who fancies cute girls and polka-dot panties but that doesn't matter anyway. He gestured his hand at me, offering me to step forward. I took a deep breath and broadened my chest, trying to look confident.

I faced them with ease. "I'm Kazuma Lino. 15 year old and I'm from Shendou Province. "

The whole class turned at me at once as they heard my voice. They were staring at me, sizing me up. Unexpectedly, someone from the back threw a crumpled paper at me and hit my forehead. They were some snickers from the students but none of them said anything so I just ignored it completely. I knew this routine. I'd gone through it at enough school.

"Nice to meet you all." I added, my poise was already gone. After that, they went back chattering to each other like nothing happened.

"Since you're a new student, I think I'll place you," Sir. Nakajima grabbed my shoulder as he adjusted his glasses. It took him a matter of time before he finally chose a seat. "..near with Ms. Fujiwara."

I followed with my eyes to which seat he was looking at and near the seat he was mentioning, a cute black-haired girl reading a SAO light novel grinned. Her blue eyes turned at us when she overheard her name.

"What is it, Sir Nakajima?" She asked as she hid the book she was reading under the desk. "I think I heard my name."

"This guy here is Kazuma and please take care of him since he's new to our school." He patted my shoulder before returning to his desk. "It's one of your responsibilities as the class president."

She smiled and took out an energetic; "Yes Proff!"

She was probably my age, maybe a couple of inches shorter than me and a whole lot more genius looking. I could see her eyes sparkle like the blue sky that I had a hard time taking my eyes away from them. The school uniform of girls which was composed of a grey coat, dark blue necktie and a black skirt suited her thin body shape perfectly.

I went into my desk and sat down there. After I finished placing my things in order, she turned to me.

"I am Miharu Fujiwara, and your name is?" She offered me a handshake. I stared at her hand skeptically. Her fair skin looked soft but I recoiled when she moved it again.

"Sorry, I am K-Kazuma Lino." I took her hand nervously and she shook it.

"You're a shy-type person, Kazuma-kun?" She asked as she raised an eyebrow. I would've blushed if I let my feelings took over but it's not the point. Miharu is a beautiful girl, that's all. No guys can't resist that face.

"Don't be shy, we won't eat you alive here." She took out a warm smile which sent me blushing.

"Y-yeah." I scratched my head after that. My heart was pumping. Did I fall in love with her? But that's too fast. I shifted my gaze away from her but my eyes were itching so badly to look again. She looked confused as she watched me grinning without any reason.

"I will show you the whole campus after the first quarter so don't goof around okay?" She added.

My eyes got an excuse to look at Miharu. But it was kinda awkward when my mouth talked on its own: "O-okay, Hime-chan."

She was kinda shocked as I covered my mouth. I just called her a 'Hime' and that kinda embarrassed myself. I almost jump my seat when she turned to me; eyes blazing like the devil's but the dark aura was ruined when she smiled afterwards.

"Hime-chan?" She placed a finger under her lips. "I'm not a princess though calling me a hime flattered me. But thank you by the way."

The bell rang after a minute passed. The chattering noise disappeared as Sir. Nakajima clapped his hands. "Okay, class! We're going to start the first lesson for today so---" Our teacher started as he took a chalk from a brown box hanged near the blackboard.

"Okay, Kazuma-kun." Miharu turned away to pay attention. "Let's talk later."

The first quarter was done and Miharu approached me. "Let's go." She said as she took a small bag with her. She took me in a tour around the campus while humming a song. She showed me first the football field with a track oval circling it. Several students nudged each other as we passed. One of them said an insulting phrase, "Miharu-chan is with a wimpy-looking guy."

Next, we reached the gymnasium which was located near the cafeteria. Miharu invited me to peek inside but I said no. After that, she showed me several places and the tour ended in a small park behind the cafeteria. I felt guilty when she gave me a chicken sandwich but when she saw my face, she said it was a part of her obligation as a class president.

"I'd never been in Shendou, is it beautiful?" She asked as she took out a bottle of milkshake.

"Yes, Shendou is beautiful." I said before munching a huge part of my sandwich. "There are a lot of beautiful places to visit but since the population of Shendou is relatively low, it kinda felts melancholic to travel around."

"Is that so?" She tilted her head as she gulped up her milkshake in one turn. "But I like quiet places. They are boring but they kinda sound cool."

"Why do you think of that?"

"Nothing," She answered. "maybe because my family used to live in a quiet town like yours. I missed the green mountains, the wide rice plains, the sound of a flowing river and the fresh air. But especially the stray cats wondering around the neighborhood. It feels nostalgic."

"So that explains why you like this place." I watched her quietly and I noticed a silver ring around her left ring finger. "Are you engaged to someone?"

"Me?" She turned to stare at her left hand. "Oh, this ring? Well, technically, this ring was my mom's but she gave it to me."

My curiosity ignited inside me. "Why would she give you something so important?"

She pouted. "Are you an idiot or not?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I won't ask you again."

She stared at the sky, her face was gloomy. She turned at me and took a deep breath. "Well, it was a gift from my mom before she died."

"Oh, I see." I looked at her, stunned. "I'm sorry."

"Why are you asking for forgiveness?" Miharu said as she stood up from the bench. The sadness from her face was changed by a cheerful smile. "It's not like you're the reason why Mum died, are you? And besides, this ring is being passed to the first born girl in every generation of our family so this kinda holds many important memories."

The wind blew hard, which took her black hair flying behind her. In that same time, I saw something sorrowful behind those beautiful eyes. Miharu definitely had a hard time after her mother's death and I could read it in her face.

For her, her mom's death is the end of her world.
