Hilda was going to have to stay on her top game as she was about to have to deal with this man and his cards in her first official duel in this tournament. She figured that she was going to need to keep up and beat this man so she could get to the next part of the tournament. She looked over her hand as her opponent was going through his turn. She drew her card at the beginning of her turn. She was attempting to figure out what to do with out her field spell in her hand and no way to add it to her hand. She figured she play it safe and clear his feild of its one monster before he could syncro summon any thing. " I start off by summoning Frozen Heart Nxy in attack mode. I also set one card face down. Now Nxy attack Genex Undine." As she said the last part. charged at the robot and sliced at it and she deiced that was her best play as she ended her turn.

Orpheus watched his opponent play a... bird? "Wow. I must admit, I was expecting something a little more impressive from somebody who looks as... experienced as yourself. Oh well. DRAW!" Orpheus grinned as he drew his sixth card. "Oh my. You, sir are in for quite the treat. You will get to witness the summoning of my most powerful Synchro Monster! First, since you control that little bird and I control no monsters, I can special summon Level Warrior from my hand as a Level 4 monster!" As Orpheus placed the card on his duel-guitar, a man in red appeared in front of him, wearing a cape and a suit with three golden stars, a fourth now appearing. "And that isn't all! Now, I will activate the effect of Gilasaurus in my hand, allowing me to special summon it! Don't worry, you get to special summon a monster from your graveyard if it is any consolation. Oh wait! There isn't any monsters in your graveyard!" Laying a second card on his guitar, Orpheus laughed as a small dinosaur appeared in front of him. "And now here is the best part! I haven't even normal summoned a monster yet, so I will normal summon my Rose, Warrior of Revenge!" Having summoned his third monster this turn, Orpheus couldn't help but grin as a red-haired woman wearing a tight-fitting suit and carrying a katana leaped onto the battlefield. "And as if that wasn't enough, Rose is a tuner, which means I can use her to tune my Level Warrior and my Gilasaurus for a total of a whopping 11 stars! Come forth, Star Eater!" Beginning to truly enjoy his own performance, Orpheus sent all three of his monster cards to the grave, as in the AR field his Warrior of Revenge faded into an outline, and reformed into a Synchro Ring that both his Level Warrior and his Gilasaurus flew through, reemerging as a colossal monster not in the sky, but encircling the sun itself. Shining blood red, the dragon roared down on Orpheus's opponent. (3200 ATK) "Now, great consumer of suns, incinerate his Bird Duke!!!" Up in the heavens, the dragon obeyed its summoner's command, dropping a giant fireball down on his opponent's monster, and burning his opponent therein. (2700 DMG, assuming no response) "And now, I will end my turn to give you a chance to find yourself among the rubble."

(changing Hilda's opponent's speech color to this, as it was confusing using two characters with the same text color)

Hilda's opponent simply laughed as she managed to get past his monster. (8000 -> 7900) "Nice job, little missy, but destroying one monster isn't going to win you this game! I activate the spell card Monster Reborn! This card allows me to special summon Genex Undine back from my graveyard!" The man activated his spell card, taking Undine back from his grave, placing it back onto the field. Once again, the strange water creature appearing in front of him once again. "Now, I will normal summon the Genex Controller I added to my hand on my first turn! Finally, I will use my Genex Controller to tune my Genex Undine and summon Hydro Genex!!!" As he performed the Synchro Summon, a larger, more machine-like version of Undine appeared, this one with a more respectable 2300 attack points. "Now, Hydro Genex, attack her Frozen Heart Nxy! (1000 dmg, assuming no response) Finally, when Hydro Genex destroys a monster by battle, I gain Lifepoints equal to the destroyed monster's attack! (7900 -> 9200) And with that, I will end my turn!"

Bailas looked at the massive dragon known as Start Eater be summoned. That...is...amazing. He had never seen something on this level of awesomeness. He motioned to activate one of his facedown cards among the summon of this beast but it didn't seem to be working. Shadi saw the beast and yelled to Bailas as he was confused. When Star Eater is synchro summoned you can't activate other card effects. Bailas looked shocked. Such a strong monster had an effect that pretty much guaranteed its stay on the field. No matter I can stop its attack though. Actually....no you can't. Shadi quickly retorted. Both Bailas and Bird Duke turned around and looked at Shadi with shocked. This was not how the plan was supposed to go. As the giant beast dropped a massive fireball Bird Duke and Bailas' left eye just started to twitch. This was going to hurt.

The massive explosion quickly incinerated Bird Duke and consumed Bailas and almost a spire of fire while his lifepoints started to decrease (8000-->5300).  When the smoke cleared Orpheus would see a small peacock in front Bailas. He was breathing heavily as the stimulation of getting hit with such a massive attack was new to him. Um..Yeah my Bird Duke has a second ability. When it is destroyed it specials one "Bird" monster from my hand. I happened to choose Beautiful Bird. Bailas took a deep breathe and regained his composure. 3200 attack points...I hope I'm good enough to figure a way out of this. Now I draw.

Bailas drew his card and noted that his opponent did not have any backrow and he realized that he may have just now had a shot at taking down this massive consumer of suns.Okay let's see if I do this right. First I'm going to activate one of my facedown's, the quickplay spell card Swallow's Nest, and with it I can send my Beautiful Bird to grave to summon one winged-beast monster that has the same level. A mechanical like nest came from under the beautiful peacock and the vibrant bird rested in the nest. A flash of light consumed the bird and then in place of the bird came a little white dove that landed on Bailas' shoulder. The monster I've summoned is known as Gentle Bird.  Also I get to activate Beautiful Bird's effect. When it is sent to the graveyard I get to add one other level 1 Winged Beast monster from my graveyard to my hand and with that I'll choose Bird Duke. Naturally this means that I'll Normal Summon Bird Duke and like before Bird Duke's effect states I get to add a "Bird" Monster to my hand. The Parrot and the suit returned and this time he positioned himself right infront of Bailas. I'll add Swift Bird to my hand. Now I'll use one of Gentle Bird's effects he said as he pointed to the cute little dove on his shoulder. As long as it is one the field I get an extra normal summon of a winged beast monster. So Now I will summon Swift Bird. When he placed the card on his duel disk a small cute hummingbird started quickly flew out and fluttered in front of him. Bailas extended his finger and the hummingbird landed on it. Swift Bird's effect states that upon its normal summon I get to send a winged beast monster from my deck to my graveyard and I choose Night Bird.

Bailas smiled as so far everything went according to plan. Now my Gentle Bird has 3 abilities you saw the first one, now another glorifies the fact that it is a tuner. I can increase its level equal to the number of "Birds" I have on the field. So since I have three Birds my Gentle Bird increases by 3 levels (1-->4). Now from my grave I can summon Night Bird with its own effect. At the far end of his field a small cute black owl flew out of the ground and landed on his other shoulder. Finally because I have 2 or more bird monsters on the field I can special summon from my hand Little Bird. From the last card zone a tiny sparrow flew out and landed on Bailas' head. That was a lot of effort on my part I must say. He took as second to soak in the fact that he had managed to get five monsters on his side of the field. Shadi was actually shock that Bailas could pull such a complicated maneuver for a person has never been in a tournament...ever. But there was still the sun eating dragon that none of these birds looked strong enough to combat that thing by any means.

Well Mr....sorry I never got your name. Mine is Bailas Gale and I guess it is time for me to go on the offensive. Bailas moved his arms and his five birds started to fly around in his waist in a circle. So first I synchro summon my level 4 Gentle Bird and my level 1 Little Bird. The two monsters form the appropriate array and in a flash of light a blue haired maiden comes forth with a blue jay on her shoulder. May I present Lady of the Blue Bird. Now it is time I reveal Gentle Bird's third effect. When it is sent to graveyard I get to special summon a winged beast monster other than Gentle Bird itself so that means I get to summon Little Bird again. The sparrow returned and resumed flying in a circle. Then Bailas thrusted his hand forward then Bird Duke, Little Bird, and Night Bird started to glow three different colors till they weren't identifiable. Now I construct the overlay network with my three birds. The vortex appeared in front of Bailas and the three lights went in. I Xyz summon Pink Bird Flamingo Stance!! From the overlay portal arose a human size flamingo surrounded by three orbiting balls of light. Now Lady of the Blue Bird's effect activates. When a Winged Beast monster is special summoned from the extra deck I draw a card. So I draw.

Shadi now even more impressed knew that his monsters must have some special ability for him to commit this many resources to them. So my Flamingo Stance's effect is pretty constant all of your monsters lose 500 attack for every Xyz material attached to it. Meaning your Star Eater's attack was sent down to 1700 and that means my Lady over here can defeat your monster by battle. Bailas' smile continues as he looks at his hand and decides to push the envelope. Now I'll actually activate Flamingo Stance's detach effect. By detaching Xyz Material my Pink Bird and your Star Eater switch original attacks. (Pink Bird: 1500--> 3200) (Star Eater: 3200-->1500-->500) Counting that my Pink Bird now has two materials your monster's attack is now only 500. Now I'm ready to enter my battle phase.

Bailas pointed his hand at the super weekend dragon. First Lady of the Blue Bird attacks your monster. The blue jay that was rest on Blue Lady's shoulder gently takes flight and pierces through the monster (1900 DMG). Now my Little Bird's effect activates. Little Bird gives any monster that uses it as Synchro or Xyz material another effect. When the monster destroys another monster by battle I get to search for a "Bird" and put it in my hand. So I'll get another Little Bird. Now Pink Bird attacks you directly (3200 DMG) and I'll finish it with Swift Birds direct attack. (500 DMG). I'll set one card and end my turn.

(1900+3200+500=5600 DMG)

Hilda had not expected to see her opponent to actually get off the syncro summon off. She was not sad when her monster was destroyed by battle. She had wanted Nxy to be destroyed and her destruction was according to plan, "Thank you Now Nxy effect goes off and I special summon Frozen Heart Shiara from my deck. I also activate Frozen stance to cause you to lose all those life points you just gained ,and with Shiara effect to special summon Frozen Heart Gia who allows me to send your monster back to your hand." She watched as he ended his turn and she began her turn by drawing a card as she was happy she had the card that her deck was fueled off of. "Alright first I activate Frozen cavern  and I will activate  Frozen Heart Reo to add  Frozen Wealth from my deck to my hand after that I shall syncro summon Frozen Heart Tira and I use her effect to special summon Frozen Heart Selena and I will use her effect to special summon Reo and Shiara from my grave. I shall over lay the two of them to summon Frozen heart Killix and her effect add Frozen Blade to my hand. Now I will detach one material from her to special summon Frozen Heart Rez and Nxy from My deck to my side of the field in defense position. I will over lay them to summon Frozen heart Telsa. " She was certain that this was enough to take him out as she ordered her monsters to attack him directly since he had no monsters on the field and The damage he would take would be for game if he had no response to her attacks. She did not know what to expect when she attacked.

Orpheus was mortified as his Star Eater was destroyed. "How... could... You are going to regret that! Little do you know, my deck is designed to combat Xyz monsters, and you just made the mistake of summoning one! And to answer your question, you can call me Orpheus. Draw!" Orpheus inspected the newest addition to his hand. 'This ought to work...' Orpheus prepared himself for his own comeback. He could hardly believe that this Bailas guy was able to destroy his Star Eater in just one turn, but it didn't matter. "First, since you control an Xyz monster, I can special summon my Starship Spy Plane! Additionally, when my Spy Plane is special summoned from my hand, I can target one of your spell or trap cards, and return it to your hand! Now I will summon a second Starship Spy Plane, returning your other face-down to your hand as well!" Orpheus grinned, preparing for a move that was much more impressive than just bouncing a few cards. "Now, I will use my two level 4 monsters to build the overlay network!" The two spacecraft would quickly condense down into two green spheres. Between the spheres, a monster would begin to form. "Xyz summon! Maestroke the Symphony Djinn!" The slowly forming monster would materialize into a pink haired devil, wearing a conductor's uniform. In its hand, it brandished a sharp rapier-like weapon. "And that isn't all! Now I will summon my Crane Crane, which allows me to summon a level 3 monster from my grave, such as my Level Warrior!" As he placed the first card upon his duel-guitar, a mechanical bird appeared on the field. The bird pecked at Orpheus's graveyard, as the caped monster from before returned to the field. "Now, with my two level 3 monsters, I can build the overlay network once again, this time summoning Temtempo the Percussion Djinn! I can now activate Temtempo's effect, detaching Crane Crane to detach an overlay unit from your Flamingo Stance, increasing the attack of all of my Djinn monsters by 500! Now my Temtempo is at 2200 attack, while Maestroke is at 2300! Now, Maestroke activates its effect, detaching an overlay unit to put your Flamingo Stance in face-down defense position! Finally, Maestroke, attack his face-down monster! That will be all."

The man was frustrated as his life-gain was stifled, and in even worse condition after his Synchro monster was removed. With nothing to protect him, he was defeated by the barrage of attacking monsters. (7900->0) "Hey! Wait a sec! You couldn't have won already! You must have cheated somehow!" As the man continued to rant, a star on his card turned off, as a star on Hilda's lit up.

Bailas looked at his opponent as he summoned his musical Xyz. He was amused that his still had so many answers. Though Bailas felt a little sorry for the young lad. He chose to only drew monster cards. But he must be some kind of professional if he was able to comeback from this kind of assault. Sad though that his opponent did not return the kindness of giving him this name. Bailas smiled and shrugged off his concern. As maestroke attacked Crane and therefore destroy it Bailas gave a sad little pout. Well that did not last long. I see that is how high level players play of course.

My turn then. I draw. Bailas looked at his hand and realized he had achieved game. I saw this on a show one of my children likes to watch. He made a stance as if he was powering up. Final turn! Bailas smiled as he felt manly in the sense that he was able to declare victory like that. So here we go, I summon another Beautiful Bird and since I have multiple birds on my side of the field I can summon Night Bird again. The peacock and the owl were summoned right beside the hummingbird and they began to glow brighter. Now I conduct the overlay network. This time Bailas' eyes started to glow and the number 54 started to glow on his hand. Come forth my new friend, I summon Number 54: Lion Heart!! As he spoke the massive egg rose from the only portal. It expanded to reveal the massive bare knuckle brawler with a long golden mane and the number 54 sprawled across its chest. So first I'll have my Lady of the Blue Bird attack your Maestroke Djinn. The lady released her gentle bird and attacked the Maestroke (200 points of dmg)   Bailas looked on as he started to glow the same color as Lion Heart. Now Lion Heart attacks your Maestroke Djinn. Shadi was wondering what could he be thinking sending a monster with only 100 ATK points into battle. Lion Hearts first effect is that while it is in attack position it cannot be destroyed by battle. Second any damage I take you take as well. And last but not least...I can detach one Overlay unit and now any damage I take you are going to take instead. Which means sir that this battle here has come to an end.

The massive beast throws a punch at Maestroke Djinn and while the monster wasn't phased a shockwave rippled and blasted his opponent. I think that means I win.

Hilda was glad to see her first duel in the tournament was a win. She had not expected that she was going to get a win that quickly as she watched as one of the stars on her card lit up. She was not sure why the man had became so upset that he had already lost. She had not wanted to upset anyone but this man seemed to be yelling and making a scene so she deiced it was best to leave him to it and let the officials handle him. She looked and saw that she now had a total of three lit up stars. She was not sure who to duel next as she had never been to such a large scale event in her life. She was glad that she already had one win under her belt but now she need to find a new opponent to duel and collect the wins that she needed to move on as soon as possible. She was ready to find a new duel but she still was not sure if she could make it to the next round.

The duo started moving with Kagaku, but Chris pressed a finger from his left hand against his left ear. His communicator immediately started to encrypt and decrypt his speech not only in real time, but also filter anything he said out loud, so passerby wouldn't understand him.
"Status report, Lieutenant."
"The situation's changed, sir. We have made contact, more or less against our will, with a local Number Hunter. Other than that, things are proceeding smoothly, and we will be entering the tournament site shortly. How are things on your end, Admiral?"
"It could be better. We have a tugboat above us right now, pinging sonar off of our hull, so deploying anything is out of the question."
"Good thing I'm serving aboard a stealth ship. How are repairs coming?"
"Smoother than I expected, until that tugboat arrived. We're trying to keep loud noises down to a minimum, but our camouflage is working. Unless they physically touch us, they won't find us."
"Good luck, sir."
"The same to you, boy."
He deactivated the transmission and went up to Kagaku, rejoining his comrades.

Meanwhile, a rather irritated observer watched this unfold. "Find that transmission. I want to know who he's talking to, and whether or not it has to do with that anomaly from the other night." She hoped that the RAVEN soucting team, cleverly disguised as a tugboat crew, would find whatever dropped into the strait separating Neo Domino from Satellite, but so far, efforts had been fruitless.

Orpheus was crushed. He was sure that his Djinn monsters would be enough to stop his opponent, and they very well may have been if not for his opponent's "Number" monster. It was just like in the Pro Tour. He could not defeat the Numbers. 'Where do they even get these things? I haven't seen them for sale anywhere, nor have I ever seen them in a pack. Are they custom-made? Wherever they come from, I need to get one.' In his current state, Orpheus refused to even acknowledge his opponent's victory, walking away as the Augmented Reality Field faded away. He continued walking, ignoring everything around him, wondering how he could attain this power held by those that carried Numbers. Reaching a secluded space, he thumbed through his deck, furious that it could not succeed in its intended purpose of defeating Numbers. The rage taking over for an instant, Orpheus hurled his deck at a wall. 'These Number cards are supposed to be the mark of a truly powerful duelist. I am powerful, aren't I? Why don't I have one?'

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kagaku continued to lead the guests into the stadium, once again reaching the gates. Scanning his card as before, he noticed the stars that had lit up on it. "What an original idea..." Walking through the turnstyle, he reminisced upon his previous entrance. "Last time I walked through these gates, before I met you two intriguing individuals, there was an impatient musician-type behind me. I wonder how he is doing. You two are registered for the tournament, right? I am assuming that is why you wanted to be here." Kagaku scanned the arena, already noticing several duels going on. Turning on his D-Gazer, he scanned for Numbers, noticing two duelists, an older man and a young woman, who each seemed to be carrying Number cards. He would subtly point out the two, continuing onward toward his destination in the arena.

Striding through the halls of RAVEN's command centre Katsu approached a large metal door protected by a pair of sentinel guards, brutish in size and shape wearing full black suits. He produced an ID card from his pocket and displayed it to the guards before passing through. Ahead he sighted an elevator in which he entered before glancing back. As the elevator doors parted in his wake he signalled to a guard and whispered "Tell Lady Isabella Katsu has arrived". The guard nodded and made his way towards a woman in a black and purple suit standing watch over a large glass window surveying the arena in which the diamond cup is taking place.

Katsu merely waited in the shadowy exterior of the room that formed in the unlit void, calmly moving his hand towards his deck to ensure all was in order. "Now no number card will be enough to stop me." He said with half a smile returning his deck to his belt for safe keeping. Impatience to duel grew within him and he was sure that defeat would be impossible, especially with the modifications he made to counteract the number cards. It was just a matter of putting them to practice.

Bailas' victory was bittersweet as he won his match. It didn't seem to make any sense that his opponent couldn't be cordial. He didn't even get the boy's name. Though his mood was slightly elevated when he looked down to see that there was a star glowing on his Duel I.D. He won his first tournament duel and he was simply holding in his elation. He turned around to Shadi who was jumping up and down with joy. Bailas realized that he was glad he had this support system to help him go out and proceed to win this whole tournament. Bailas made eye contact with his friend and threw up the thumbs up symbolizing victory. Once the two actually reconvened then the congratulations could vocalized.

That was amazing! I thought you didn't even know how to play the game. Who would have thought you had this much skill? Its like you're a grown prodigy...if that makes any sense. Thanks even though I would guess reading is half of the battle. I'm just glad that I got to use special Number friend here. I wonder what am I to do next. Though I will say I hope my next match goes as well as this one. Hopefully I can keep up this up in the future. Now I guess I should find another opponent. Hmmm I wonder how that young girl from earlier faired. Well we can just go catch up with her and see how her battle went.

The two proceeded to try to find the maiden who was surrounded from before. Unaware that they were being watched.

A quite obviously scared witless Doc just stood anxiously after his ID card lit up.

While watching the duel between the 'bird dude' and the 'smug guy', as he called them in his head, he stared in horror as Lion Heart was summoned. He grabbed a notebook out of his messenger bag, and flipped through it until he reached a page that had a rough sketch.

He realized his sketch was a little off, only having read about Number cards-- and never having seen one himself. He stashed the notebook, and began to walk towards the 'bird dude'-- realizing he was walking away. Doc's attention immediately turned towards the smug duelist, who was walking off as well. Having to make a split-second decision between following him or letting him get away, Doc made a bold move and decided to follow-- he felt a bit braver today than he usually did. It seemed to him like he was being ignored, but he couldn't find the courage to speak up.

He watched Orpheus' anger grow as he thumbed through his deck, culminating in Orpheus, of course, throwing the cards.

Doc Jones was outraged-- he couldn't recall a moment in his life he was more upset up to this point-- which, to be fair, he'd lived a fairly uneventful life. His blood began to boil, and Doc finally found the nerves to speak.

"WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM, YOU LUMBERING OAF?!? DO YOU HAVE ANY RESPECT FOR YOUR DECK?!? THE DECK THAT'S CARRIED YOUR MISERABLE HIND TO THIS POINT, FAITHFULLY AND WITHOUT QUESTION!?"
