My Little Pony: Like you've never seen it before [21/50?] - Updated 10/3/2013 -

This Yu-Gi-Oh deck is based on the TV series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Most of the art is drawn by MysticAlpha. Speaking of the art, I chose these drawings because the art style was adorable and (to me) absolutely perfect for Yu-Gi-Oh. And I chose not to crop out MysticAlpha's signature on each picture because I want to give him credit.

I made the Mane 6 all Level 4 Effect Monsters because in the show they each have their own unique traits and they are all equal in my eyes. I don't see a reason why Twilight Sparkle needs to be overpowered or Applejack needs to be a normal monster that you would never want to summon.

About the naming of specific cards - I found that many Yu-Gi-Oh cards had a nice ring their names. Rather than name cards to match the show 100% completely, I tried to copy the style that real Yu-Gi-Oh card names have, e.g. "Ethereal Song" instead of "Celestia's Ballad".

I'm planning on making a total of at least 50 cards.

v5tr.jpg

When you declare an attack with this card, switch any "Princess Luna" you control to Defense Position. When this card destroys a monster, select 1 face-down card on the field and destroy it.
Celestia and Luna rule the Day and Night respectively, and so while one attacks the other cannot. It is sometimes difficult for them to work together, but their effects regarding face-down monsters complement eachother. Celestia can defeat Luna head on, but cannot beat Luna in defense. Couldn't find a better picture of her without a plain white background. This is inconsistent with the other monsters, but let's just say she's special.

ttn1.jpg

When you declare an attack with this card, switch any "Princess Celestia" you control to Defense Position. When this card destroys a monster your opponent controls, you can either: See the top card of your opponent's deck, OR: Select 1 face-up monster on the field and change it to face down Defense Position.
Celestia and Luna rule the Day and Night respectively, and so while one attacks the other cannot. It is sometimes difficult for them to work together, but their effects regarding face-down monsters complement eachother. Luna loses to Celestia head on, but can beat Celestia in defense.

383k.jpgZDW4Gbz.jpg

Each time a Spell card is activated, place 1 Spell counter on this card. This card gains 300 ATK for each Spell Counter on it. You can remove 2 Spell Counters from this card to add 1 Spell Card from your deck to your hand.

Each time a Spell card is activated, place 1 Spell counter on this card. This card gains 300 ATK for each Spell Counter on it. You can Tribute this card with 3 Spell Counters; add 1 Spell Card from your deck to your hand.
Chose the art because of how the wonderful background matches the color of effect monster cards. Also, it's so damn adorable. Her effect references her raw magical potential that could one day surpass Celestia's, as well as her love of books and studying magic. I have made new card with a modified effect to make it appear more balanced. The new effect presents a possible scenario where Twilight Sparkle did not pursue friendship and instead chose to spend her life researching magic. She accomplishes a great deal, even creating a new spell, but dies as a lonely mare.

H5x81tR.jpg

If you control a face-up "Princess Celestia": Tribute 1 "Twilight Sparkle" to Special Summon 1 "Princess Twilight Sparkle" from your hand or your deck.
After Celestia sung for the first time in the show, Twilight Sparkle became an alicorn princess.

a7mh.jpg

Once per turn, you can discard 1 card from your hand to draw one card from your deck.
Effect references her artistic and creative ability; I imagine she constantly throws away old/bad designs to create new ones. It can also be taken to reference her gem-finding ability

n7hi.jpg

During their respective turns, each player must show their opponent their hand.
This effect references Honesty, Applejack's element of harmony.

yp5y.jpg

Once per turn, if you control a face-up "Princess Celestia": target 1 monster on the field and return it to the owner's hand.
"To the Moon!" would also be a good name.

v6o8.jpg

FLIP: Discard 1 card randomly from your opponent's hand. Increase the ATK and DEF of this card by 200 for every face-up monster you control.
I'm not sure if I can do this with FLIP effect monsters, but she has a flip effect and a regular continuous effect. The flip effect references her randomness, surprise parties, and party cannon. As for the other effect: she is an extrovert and gains energy from being around other people, and lives only to bring joy to others. She is a good person.

ttut.jpg

Reduce the DEF of this monster by 200 for every face-up monster on the field (excluding this card). Increase the ATK of this monster by 200 for every face-up Beast-Type monster on the field.
There is a tree in the background, and Fluttershy would like to be a tree someday. The bark also matches the color of effect monster card backgrounds. She is timid and hard to coax out of her cottage, so she has a high DEF. Her effect references her extreme introversion and her ability to communicate with animals.

7uzc.jpg

The equipped monster is treated as Unicorn-Type. It gains 500 ATK and DEF.
That's Rarity's horn because her horn glow color is very similar to the spell card background color.

mj86.jpg

Tribute 1 monster; this card can make a second attack during each Battle Phase this turn. WHen this effect is activated, decrease the DEF of this card by 500, and if the DEF has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy this card.
The effect references her speed and brash action, which can sometimes get her friends hurt. But perhaps this would have been more suited to Lightning Dust, since Rainbow Dash has shown she cares about the safety of her friends. A monster which can cause itself to attack twice each turn would be a bit overpowered, so I added a bunch of difficulties involving it. Is it now too weak?

kzuy.jpg

This card gains 500 ATK for each Equip Card equipped to this card. When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can pay 1000 Life Points; return this card to the top of the Deck.
The episode "Magic Duel" involved her getting an extremely powerful amulet to exact revenge on Twilight Sparkle. I made her ATK a tad weaker than Twilight's to show how Twilight's natural ability exceeds Trixie's. But she is a trickster and a showpony, so she benefits greatly from items that falsely amplifies her magic. At the end of "Magic Duel", she was redeemed. This is why you can pay life points to return her to the top of the deck when she's destroyed. Also, this is one of my favorite pictures.

fm36.jpg

This card can only be used to equip Unicorn-Type monsters. The equipped monster gains 1300 ATK. During each of your Standby Phases: Inflict 500 damage to the controller of the equipped monster. When this card leaves the field, destroy the equipped monster.
Extremely powerful equip card that drains life points. Trixie can get away from being destroyed by this card due to her redemption ability.

n8sv.jpg

Target 1 monster your opponent controls; it becomes DARK and cannot attack or change its battle position. When that monster is destroyed, destroy this card.
On a mission to save the Crystal Empire, Twilight Sparkle entered a door in King Sombra's castle, only to find herself back in Canterlot with Princess Celestia telling her to leave and never return...

6lk1.jpg

Special Summon 1 Alicorn-Type monster from your hand.
Tribute summoning is extremely tragic and not something that would exist in a Utopian pony world. The rulers of Equestria are kind and would never allow their citizens to be killed in such a manner.

bweq.jpg

Increase the ATK of all DARK and LIGHT monsters on the field by 500.
The Crystal Empire contains a powerful magic that dark forces wish to possess.

vfjv.jpg

This card can only be activated if there is a face up "The Crystal Empire" on the field. Flip all monsters on the field face up, and then destroy all DARK monsters on the field. You gain life points equal to the number of cards destroyed by this effect x 300 points.
When the real Crystal Heart was restored, the Crystal Ponies powered up to unleash the magic of The Crystal Empire, destroying King Sombra and removing his influence.

ze8x.jpg

Taget 1 monster your opponent controls and destroy it. If the targeted monster was a Level 4 or lower monster, you can discard 1 card to Set this card face-down again instead of sending it to the Graveyard.
Might be a bit overpowered, but hopefully the cost and limits keep it balanced. The idea here is that Sombra prowls the arctic in his shadow form, capturing or devouring any passerby. If he encounters someone too powerful, like Shining Armor, he'll be tied up trying to defeat him and be unable to get anyone else.

yrrw.jpg

Target 1 face-up Unicorn-Type monster on your side of the field. Destroy all Spell and Trap cards on your opponent's side of the field, and reduce the ATK of the targeted monster by 800 x the number of cards destroyed by this effect. If its ATK has been reduced to 0 as a result, destroy it.
Not sure if this is overpowered or not. Reference to when Twilight used dark magic to get past some of Sombra's magic and traps. I like to think that if she used it too much, she would have damned herself.

8g32.jpg

Banish 2 face-up Unicorn-Type, Earth-Pony-Type, or Pegasus-Type monsters that you control. Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls and banish it. During your 3rd Standby Phase after activation, destroy this card and Special Summon all monsters banished by this effect to their respective owners' fields.
The name and picture is a reference to Pinkie Pie's original character design which was named Surprise. But the effect also references Pinkie Pie's surprise parties. Basically, the spririt of Pinkie Pie rests in this Trap Card. When activated, she drags three other monsters into a party which lasts 3 Standby Phases.

aznc.jpg

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except with "Ethereal Song". If there is at least 1 other monster on your side of the field, this card cannot be destroyed by battle. Each time a monster is Normal Summoned or Set, place 1 Spell Counter on this card. All monsters you control gain 300 ATK for each Spell Counter on your side of the field. Once per turn, you can remove 1 Spell Counter from your side of the field to destroy 1 card on the field.
Princess Twilight Sparkle is DARK now, since Twilight is between night and day, so it wouldn't make sense to have Twilight Sparkle always be LIGHT. Also suits this (very nicely drawn) picture more. Her Level and ATK/DEF are lower than Princess Luna, indicating that she's currently weaker than both goddesses. But of course, her potential is shown in her effect. Speaking of the effect, it's mostly the same, and I made it more wide-reaching due to her new role as a Princess, and possibly ruler over something. She has subjects now - they protect her, and she inspires them.
omg freaking bronies again...

Just let this stupid fandom die already.

Excuse me. I really don't think you need to go into this topic and start spreading hate. This was not an "In your face" topic. It's just a set of cards. Just please stop being hateful and try to understand that other people like things that you don't.

You know, it's rather silly and flat-out unnecessary for one to barge into the Pop-Culture section, and instantly find all the subjects one doesn't like, and proceed to flame them. Guys, it's just artwork on cards. It's not going to kill you, just because TC has MLP-themed cards.
Just take into account the card as a whole, whether you like the artwork or not, as there is more to this set then just that.
Simple. No need to get upset over it =D

As for the cards themselves-
Twilight is overpowered. Yes, it's supposed to be show-accurate that way, but at the same time your giving her free range of any Spell in your deck. So I highly doubt one would pick something like Crystal Empire, over something like Monster Reborn/Dark Hole/etc.
I'm probably being a bit of a killjoy by pointing this out, but still, Twilight's cost is just far too low, for what it's capable of.

Thanks for pointing that out. As an alternative, I could turn her effect into something like "You can Tribute this card with at least 3 Spell Counters on it; add 1 Spell Card from your deck to your hand." I could explain it like this: Instead of pursuing friendship, Twilight Sparkle spends her life researching spells. She accomplishes a great deal but dies a lonely mare. This requires a tribute and more spell counters. Is it still overpowered? Or underpowered?

Also, this would be a good time to mention I have added "Strike from the Shadows", a new Trap Card.

Well, this is yet another interesting take. Feel free to check out my own set based on FiM.

While you are allowed custom sub-types in the Pop Culture section, including standard Archetypes will help your cards interact with others. For example, I use 'Beast' for Earth Ponies, 'Winged Beast' for Pegasi, and my own mix of 'Beast-Spellcaster' for Unicorns (because there's already a 'Beast-Warrior' Archetype).

Celestia and Luna could stand to be more powerful, given they are physical dieties, however it also occurs to me that keeping them the way they are could be wise too under the condition that if a powerful being, like "King Sombra" or "Discord" enters the Field, Celestia and Luna can then combine their power as they had in-story. I would also like to see Luna's dream-walk ability reflected in her card somehow, if you can handle that.

Both of your cards for Twilight are displaying as the same. The movie made it clear that if Twilight had not accepted the Path of Friendship, she would have ended up the same as Sunset Shimmer, which is just another way of saying 'Twilight Sparkle,' after all. There should probably be a limit to how many Counters can be placed on her card due to her effect, otherwise the player would just stockpile them until Twilight's power was equivilent to Celestia's, or something similarly outrageous. Stats-wise she is the second-weakest of the Mane 6, having spent most of her life studying (Applejack comments in 'Winter Wrap-Up' that she's a small pony).

"Ethereal Song" is too easy to use, since it only needs "Twilight Sparkle" and not "Princess Celestia." Considering what it actually took to trigger it, it should require all of the Elements of Harmony and Starswirl's Journal, as well as at least half of the rest of the Mane 6 to bring off. Of course, easy or hard also depends on "Princess Twilight's" stats and effect. And I guess that really was Celestia's first song. Wow. She's like the Major Monogram of MLP.

I think Rarity should have higher ATK. She did kick the manticore, after all.

I think you should use a different effect for Applejack, because she quickly moved beyond her 'no help from no pony' phase. Especially if you insist on using information from season 3 and the movie for the rest of your cards. Her stats are appropriate to the strongest of the Mane 6.

What is "Lunar Excursion" trying to accomplish?

Pinkie is hardly grounded, so I'm surprised you chose to make her an Earth-Type. Then again, you used Light for Twilight and Rarity. I made Twilight a Fire-Type as inspired by her flare-up during 'Feeling Pinkie Keen,' and because I save Light and Dark for higher-levels. I made Rarity an Earth-Type because her unique ability is her gem-finding. Anyhoo, if you take the line from Pinkie's Continueous effect to another line on the card, it might work better. I would consider giving her a significant stat boost to reflect how she's a major Toonforcer and a minor Reality Warper. Having her get a boost from other monster cards the player controls is a good way to reflect the sunny boost she gets from her friendships.

Fluttershy's low ATK and high DEF is the same sort of thing I did, however I did not give her an ATK penalty, because it's already really low. She's only hard to get out of her cottage when she's scared of herself, or of someone else. I gave her a boost for all Beast- and Winged-Beast monsters, because those with whom she is not friends she tends to Stare into submission... and to tears. To those who think a Pony couldn't withstand the might of a dragon, watch 'Dragonshy.'

That's Rarity's horn specifically during 'Mmmystery on the Friendship Express.' How it could be applied to other ponies I've no idea, considering the only time a Unicorn has lost her horn was magically, by Discord or through the mirror portal. The Ponyverse does not currently have a way to mimic a unicorn's horn, although I wouldn't blink if Gearhead (my OC) or someone like him becomes canon and brings an Alicorn Engine online.

"Rainbow Dash" ought to be stronger, considering she only seems to be a little weaker than Applejack. The ability to attack twice is a good one, although I tend to half ATK instead.

I find it interesting that you've made Trixie a Light-Type and that you've made her so powerful, when she is shown not to be powerful at all (even her summoned lightning strikes are only powerful enough to startle Dash). She's really only powerful with the Alicorn Amulet, which ought to make the wearer a Dark-Type automatically, and increase their ATK at the expense of their DEF. I'm sure you know where I'm going with this.

"The Door of Nightmares" only worked when dark magic is used on it. When light magic is used on it, its ability is negated. Sombra's entire Xanatos Gambit relied on a prospective hero going in alone and assuming it would take dark magic to open the door. The spell's target can remain transfixed until interrupted, as Spike did.

Why does "The Crystal Empire" boost both Light- and Dark-Types? It should boost only one, and weaken the other, in my opinion, depending on who you want to have obtain the "Crystal Heart." Then again, that could be an effect for the Heart itself. You seem to have made that into "Crystal Burst of Light," however.

I'm not sure "Strike From the Shadows" does what it is supposed to, considering Armour's magic was sealed in Sombra's attack.

I think a lot of your pictures are further out than they need to be. You can crop them closer, and still keep the artist's signature. I also dislike how some of the ponies' faces are hidden, so you cannot see them entirely (and not in a Fluttershy's shy eye way of hiding the face either). Dash and Fluttersht ahve appropriately representative pictures, but I feel you could do better for the others.

Trixie seems a little op in general.  Only level four, so no need to tribute, Trixie + United We Stand + Alicorn Amulet equals a monster you normal summoned without a tribute with 4650 attack.  If you used Heavy Storm, Dark Hole, Jinzo + Amplifier, Effect Veiler, Royal Decree, pretty much anything that stopped the opponent from negating the summon or instantly destroying it, you have a super-powered monster that you can bring back from the grave.  Then, if you put her in a Macro deck, you could remover her from play, use something that returns removed from play cards to the Graveyard and then bring her back, so you can bring her back constantly while the opponent is struggling with all of their cards removed from play.  And paired with Twilight?  Twilight could fish for all the spells you would need and then completely shatter the opponent.  And then play Strap On Horn or Crystal Empire... her attack just gets way too high for my liking.

Other than that, solid cards, I like 'em.

Well, this is yet another interesting take...

Thanks for all the detailed feedback. I'll try to make some changes to the cards based on your feedback, if I haven't responded to them here.

I considered giving the ponies real types, but I decided to go with fake-types for several reasons. First, I wanted to have specific card effects that only targeted these MLP cards. The other reason is that I plan to make Beast Union-Monsters that work with Fluttershy, and I wanted to differentiate the Beasts from sentient ponies. After all, Fluttershy is good around animals but not sentient ponies.

I tried to show Luna's dream-walk ability with her effect of seeing a card from the opponent's deck - she can go in a dream to learn about all the fears and secrets of somepony, allowing her to predict how someone might behave.

Lunar Excursion - When Celestia is on the field, she can use her powers to banish monsters to the moon. I wanted the effect to be a 'return to hand' because this would simply make it difficult to re-summon the monster, which is kind of how it dealt with Nightmare Moon. Wait 1,000 years (1 turn) until the stars aid in her escape (you can summon another monster)...yeah, it's a bit of a stretch.

About all the pony attributes, I decided to make most Unicorns LIGHT, most Earth-Ponies EARTH, and most Pegasi WIND, regardless of what they might actually be.

I made Trixie strong because when she first appeared, she was able to beat most of the Mane 6. She is pretty good at magic, since she knows all those spells and stuff.

Yeah, The Crystal Empire on its own boosts both DARK and LIGHT because it motivates both sides to fight for the powerful magic within, which is the crystal heart. I might make a dark version of the "Crystal Burst of Light".

"Strike from the Shadows" is an example of me not staying completely faithful to the show in order to create a better effect; I'm also not sure how I can handle disabling a horn in the effect. Besides, I wanted it to show that Sombra hunts down everything in the arctic, not just unicorns. I'm interpreting it to mean that Sombra destroys any creature he finds.

About all the pictures and cropping - I see what you mean. Rainbow Dash's picture is the only one that's done well in that regard. It's a bit difficult because the artist I'm choosing from only has a limited number of the ponies with full backgrounds, and many of them usually include other characters. This forces me to make weird cropping decisions. For instance, I have to leave the signature in, but remove that other character, making it impossible to focus on or center. I'll see what I can do, though.

Well, I based Trixie's effect and attack power off of Maha Vailo, which can also get ridiculously high ATK with the right cards. And as long as Trixie is destroyed once, all her equips go the grave anyway. When she returns, she will be unable to regain her former power.

Updates:
- Deck needs more trap cards. Added "A Desperate Deal", a trap which involves Twilight using dark magic.
- I'm rethinking my image standards. I wanted to commit to leaving in the artist's signature but that left me with some pretty badly cropped pictures. So, screw it. I'm re-finding and re-cropping some of the card images. For a taste of what is to come, check out the new art for "Rarity". (EDIT: And now Applejack, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy have gotten new art. Changed Applejack's effect as well.)

dear god man. my cards barely get looked at either, i posted a 40 card set, and got maybe 4 view. I commend this guy for putting the time and detail into these cards. i wish i could see the pictures. With my MLP cards, i did almost like a Noble Knights approach with equips as the Elements of Harmony. Because mine centered around the elements of Harmony, i used Twilights nuke out mode with the white eyes. ill post them at some point for y'all. this is a really interesting set. i wash i could see the atks and defs for each one, but im on a school computer and it blocks out some pics

Thanks for all the feedback, everypony!

- I have added another trap card which is simply named "Surprise!" I think the effect turned out pretty well - it's kind of like "Two Pronged Attack" but with a temporary remove from play instead of destroy.
- I have a "Spike" series of cards coming soon, with something nice and show accurate planned for "Spike LV3" and a spell card, "Friendship Letter".

THE PRINCESS TWILIGHT COMETH

- Added "Princess Twilight Sparkle". Art looks great; one of my favorite things about making these cards is discovering all the wonderful fanart.
- In other news, DARN IT. Looks like YGO Card Maker started using a different template. This breaks the consistency I had going with the deck.
- Spike cards will arrive after a few more cards.
