Monster Mash Contest (Finished)

I've never hosted a contest before, but I recently had the inspiration to run this one. With Halloween coming up, the name for the contest came to me, and sounded perfect for the contest's gimmick. The gimmick is that once you enter the tournament, you will be randomly assigned two different monster types, and you must design a set of cards supporting both types. Some guidelines:

  • I am the only judge.
  • There is no entry fee, but you are free to add points to the pot if you want.
  • The starting pot is 200 points. 1st place gets 50% of the pot. 2nd place gets 35% of the pot. 3rd place gets 15% of the pot. Everyone else gets the shame of defeat.
  • You must have a minimum of two cards. I will not be judging you based on the number of cards you make for this, but having more cards will allow you to better explore whatever strategy you have in mind for the set. On the other hand, I greatly appreciate sets that accomplish a lot with few numbers, and I also do not want to trawl through a ton of custom cards. There is not limit on the cards you make, but try to limit your set as much as you can.
  • Your cards must support the types you've been assigned, or the specific monsters you're making within those two types. If your types are Winged-Beast and Pyro, for example, your cards must work with both types.
  • You do not have to make an archetype, but that's probably the easiest way to go. Your cards do not have to share the same words in their names, but they must still support one another somehow. Even if it's as vague as supporting the same attribute or card type, or working with the same basic strategy, they must support each other.
  • You must utilize both types that I give you. If your types are Dragon and Insect, for example, you must make at least 1 monster for each type. You can have an even distribution between them, or you can make it uneven (like if you had 1 Dragon monster among a bunch of different Insects that supported it. That's perfectly acceptable).
  • You are allowed to have more types in the set other than the types I've assigned to you, but any cards you make must still support the assigned types, or the specific cards your designing through those types (for example, your types are Spellcaster and Beast, you must still have at least 1 monster for each of those types, but you can also add in Warrior or Dragon monsters that happen to support Spellcasters and Beasts, or something along those lines).
  • There are no limits or requirements for spells and traps in the set, but any that you make must support the specific monsters in the set, or the types you're working with.
  • If you make any Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz monsters, they must reference the types you've been given, or the specific monsters in your set. You don't have to specify types for their respective materials, but that's probably the easiest way to do it.
  • The cards must be realistic. No joke card or pop-culture cards are allowed.
  • Despite being sort-of-official types, Divine-Beast and Creator God won't be available for this. I'll only be randomly picking from the 21 official monster types.
  • You are allowed to make any/all of your monsters with effects that treat them as both types.

That's all I can think of at any rate. Entrants will be accepted until September 15th. You have from the time you enter until October 1st to finish your cards. Because I'm the judge, there are a number of ways you can endear me to your cards: Thinking outside the box and making something fun and unique, focusing on lore and flavor more than or equal to crunch and gameplay, making support for Ritual, Normal, Gemini, Union, Spirit, and Toon monsters, and drawing your own images. Any of that stuff will earn you a lot of favor from me.

Also, because I just thought of it, if you finish your cards before October 1st, and I find some OCG errors or tell you there are some ways to fix them up (in my lowly opinion at least), I'm not against letting you fix your mistakes. You can modify and improve your cards as much as you want until October 1st. I'll only be judging the final product for this.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

EDIT: Thanks to a generous donation by Hadix, the pot is now 300 points. The prize percentages are still the same.
EDIT: Another generous donation, this time from ThorgrimZz, has put the pot up to 400 points. Good luck guys.

Yes to Darthakin, and yes to Hadix. Alright, in order:

Darthakin, your two randomly assigned types are *drumroll*... Winged-Beast and Spellcaster.

I'm already anxious to see how that plays out.

Hadix, your two randomly assigned types are *slightly different drumroll for the sake of variety*... Dinosaur and Psychic.

Ha! Dude, that's going to be awesome.

Good luck to both of you, and all the other contestants. This is shaping up to be very interesting.

If this card is normal summoned or flip summoned, its type is treated as "spellcaster".
Once per turn you can target 1 card on the field. During the end phase, destroy the targeted card and then destroy one card of the same type you control. If you cannot, destroy this card.

If this card is face-up on the field, treat all monsters on the field as "Spellcasters" AND "Winged-Beasts". This effect cannot be negated.

For every "Spirit" Monster on the field, place 1 Spell Counter on this card per turn. Remove up to 10 Spell Counters from your side of the field to increase the ATK or DEF of a Monster you control by 150 for each Spell Counter used and destroy this card, this effect may only be used once per duel.

If you must be curious on the symbols on the rituals, I do believe they mean Pyro and aqua. That is why I chose those symbols. Also: The symbol on Spirit Synergy is spirit. I do hope that is what they mean anyways :P The whole point of these cards are to summon them quite weak, but the longer they are on the field, the more chance you have of increasing their strength.

either way works. I'm fine with PMing, but if you put them here, just make sure you put it in spoilers to reduce the amount of scrolling we have to go through.

Wow, that was fast!

Reply to Darthakin: You can probably get away with making their effects say "this card's type is also treated as Spellcaster" that way they can abuse support for both types. I think you can also knock Mazilio down to 4-star. His stats aren't really good enough to require a tribute, and his effects has such blowback that I don't think the tribute is necessary, but that's just me. Is Kinterion a harpy lady/kitsune/Gardevoir hybrid? I'm surprisingly okay with this. Nice cards, but you've got plenty more time to add more to them. I'll probably be rating cards on that "oomf" factor. You know, synergy and such.

Reply to TehTeaKing: **** yeah! Ritual monsters. I feel like you can take away the once per duel limit to Spirit Synergy. Ritual monsters are hard enough to get on the field to keep them around for spell counters, so letting a duelist use it more than once should be alright. As much as I adore Ritual Monsters, they're extremely underwhelming these days if they can't call upon any effects of their own. Feel free to give them some effects to make them more useful, especially if those effects specifically interact with other Aqua and Pyro monsters. Also, their effects don't have to say "you must also offer monsters whose total level stars equal 6 or more." I think recent Ritual monsters take that part away so they can fill in the text box with more effects and costs. Only the ritual spells that summon them need to dictate the number of level stars needed to summon them. You've still got plenty of time to tinker around with them. Like the flavor and your images so far.

Keep up the good work, guys. These are great so far.

Thank you for joining, and thank your for your donation. You've come to the right place for random.

Alright, your randomly selected types are... *we rolled the drum too much, so just clap your hands or something*... Zombie and Insect.

It'll be fun to see how you handle that one. Good luck with your cards, and with your play.

Fear the Nightspinners! this little set is kinda sorta like Gishkis in the respect that the meat of the deck yould be Ritual Monsters. The Nightspinners are just your basic monsters. They're the insects. But then you activate "Return the Soul" and combo that with "Nightspinner Drone" and suddenly bam! "Revived Spider- Mehzura the Nightspinner", the decks badass. Course, Mehzhura has a downside. He ony lasts for a few turns, just like a zombie only lasts for so long before it decomposes totally and dies.

Alright, I did my best with editing the post; the spoiler tags were pretty jumbled, so I had to manually recreate the post. It seems fine now, though the card image of "Revived Spider - Mezhura the Nightspinner" was missing when I tried to correct the post, so you will have to repost it.
