Yugioh and... Gardening? [70 unique cards!]

Hey guys, here's a set of cards I was working on before I made my account here (So changes to them may take awhile since they aren't saved). I'm somewhat new to this so I apologize if there's OCG mistakes everywhere, but I'm always happy to learn from my mistakes!

Anyway the basic idea here was a random thought I had for a set of cards based around doubling the amount of monsters you can have on the field by being able to summon a particular sort of monster on a space already occupied by another of that same kind. Originally I was thinking of it being themed around small insects forming swarms, but then I decided to go for Plant type which I thought would be a bit more interesting and unique, so... Here was the result. I have no idea if the game's rules would allow for this sort of thing or if it would even be a viable competitive option, buuut I thought it was a neat concept worth sharing.
If this card is sent to the graveyard while you have 6 or more monsters on your side of the field, return "Flower"s on your side of the field to your deck until you have 5 monsters on your side of the field.

And that's it so far. I may update and expand this later on with more Flower varieties and support cards, so I'm open for suggestions on effects for those that could enhance the strategy of this set or add more depth to it.

I really like the concept. It could the start to introducing a new mechanic. I have only a few things:

Hidden garden doesnt make a whole lot of sense as a field card. I would suggest either a continuous spell or just a quick spell.

lonely sprout should be a continuous spell for how really underpowered it is.

At least some of the "Flower" monsters should have considerably more ATK, otherwise I doubt anyone would run this. Additionally I would change Red and White Roses effects to 200 or 300, or else I doubt they would be run.

Other than that just some minor OCG errors that I am sure someone else will correct, and keep adding on to this set as well as toying around with this mechanic for other Archetypes/staples.

Thanks for the feedback! I see what you mean with Hidden Garden, I suppose I was thinking more thematically than mechanically with that one. I figured since it's a sort of location, a field spell would make more sense. I may update it later on to be a continuous instead. Lonely Sprout... Yeah now that I think about it, it's kinda useless. Though I'm not sure if it would be much better as a Continuous spell. Maybe changing it from adding to your hand to a special summon would be better, or increasing the amount of Flowers you can search for? Either way I'll deffinitely have to buff it later.

As for the ATK, I think 100/100 is pretty fitting considering they're only flowers so they shouldn't really be very difficult to destroy on their own. Though I guess the Roses' effects are pretty small, so I might go back and increase that a little too.

To fix spoilers I think you need to add a title to them e.g

as opposed to

Just replace title with card name or whatever. But in regards to the cards, mother nature seems a little too much of a hassle to use for an attack, 6 monsters on your side of the field? Maybe reduce to 4, or 4 plant-type monsters.

Just replace title with card name or whatever. But in regards to the cards, mother nature seems a little too much of a hassle to use for an attack, 6 monsters on your side of the field? Maybe reduce to 4, or 4 plant-type monsters.

Aha, thanks! Got spoilers working perfectly fine now, so now things should seem much more neat and tidy. And I intend to add more spells/traps and such that help with storming out Flowers to help with Mother Nature's requirement, since the whole point of the set is being able to double the amount of monsters you have on the field. Though she's mostly meant as a defensive card to keep the Mystical Garden out anyway, just a big 3000 ATK wall that your opponent needs to deal with before they can get rid of your garden.

Np. And considering you can normally only have 5 monster cards on your side of the field, I thought it strange you'd need more, unless you're planning to add some xyz(s) or anything :P But I like the idea of that ATK wall.

EDIT: don't pay attention to this post, 'tis epic fail and full of crap.

Exactly ;) Normally you can only have 5 out at once, but Mystical Garden grants the ability to summon Flowers onto monster card zones already occupied by other Flowers, basically increasing your limit to 10 monsters, which is why certain cards in the set have effects revolving around having 6 or more monsters on the field. Hopefully that clears up where I'm going with these :) Just a weird little concept that I thought would make for a fun set/archetype.

Yet another update due to sudden inspiration! Just added 4 new fusion monsters to the set based around combining the Mystical Garden Keeper with some of the different Flower varieties. And before anyone points it out, I'm aware that I derped and spelled fusion wrong in their card effects, I just didn't notice until I was in the process of posting them. I'll have to fix that later.

I really like the originality of this idea! It is an incredibly interesting mechanic to consider, and I wouldn't be surprised if some other member piggybacks off of your idea soon.

That said, the flowers need higher base stats than 100, otherwise they are unfortunately just too weak. As far as the set goes though, the addition of those Fusion monsters definitely helps round out the offensive capability here (or create it, actually). Lonely Sprout should be a SS IMO. Additionally, you may want to add a card that searches specifically for Keeper, since she seems to be the true focal point of this set. Hope this helps!

I'd be hella honored if other people started building off of this mechanic more with their own sets :) That is, assuming they give some credit to me for the idea ;)

As for the low base stats, I'm thinking I'll leave them at 100 and have plenty of cards that can beef them up, such as the Sunflowers and their fusion as well as Garden of the Moon. Though maybe I should add some more cards to help protect the Flowers and keep them alive despite the extremely low stats. The set hasn't got any traps yet, so I guess that could be an excuse to add some. As for a card to search out the Garden Keeper... Yeah, that's definitely a good idea, since all the fusions include her as a fusion material. So I'll whip one up right now I think. Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!

Back again with another update to this set! Increased the Roses' effects from 100 life points to 300, added a new Flower variety to provide some defense for the others, and another fusion... This time for the Golem. Feedback, criticism, and suggestions are all greatly appreciated :)

 • 9 months later...

Been awhile, hasn't it? Been feeling the creative juices flowing lots lately, so thought I might get back into this after I dunno how long. Aaand what better way to start than updating my first (And probably least crappy) set of cards?

Just updated the set with 4 new Flower types, 2 new Fusions, and even 2 fancy shmancy Synchros! As usual though I'm not too knowledgeable about the meta-game stuff these days, so chances are there's plenty of balance and/or OCG issues among them. So if you spot any glaring problems, feedback on how to potentially fix and balance them is highly appreciated!

What's this? Another update so soon?! Had a few more cards I didn't have time to finish last night, but had more than enough time to get them done today. So here they are!

Added 2 more new fusions, another Flower tuner, 2 non-Flower monsters for a little added support, and finally a couple traps. Which also brings us up to 40! With even more still likely to come in the future.

The cards, they just keep coming! Updated the set with 8 new cards. 3 new Flower types including a third Tuner, a fusion for one of those new Flower types, two more Mystical Garden monsters, aaand one spell and one trap! I was feeling a bit more iffy than usual on the OCG stuff for some of these new ones, so please tell me if anything needs fixing, what needs fixing, and how to fix it if anybody notices any obvious mistakes.

I really love the concept behind these! Keep up the good work! Also, I suggest either adding a few ways to summon Flowers from the Deck, or a search card for them, mostly because all of the effects that you've made involving SSing Flowers have so far summoned them from the hand, except for Enchanted Garden and Graveseed Necromancer. Just a bit of friendly advice. =)

Thanks for the suggestion! I've made a small tweak to Dandelion Maiden to allow her to SS from the deck instead of graveyard (Since Graveseed Necromancer already summons from the graveyard), and now working on one or two more cards to help with getting Flowers from the deck to the field.
