Was originally going to ignore this, but I may as well contribute.

Don't confuse "elitism" for bullying.

I'm an elitist, I've no reason to say otherwise. I'm pretentious, egotistical, etc. I've been hearing the same shit on this site for 5 years, it doesn't bother me.

However, to say that because of said attributes that I would ever purposefully target and harass a member would go against not only against my obligation to this site but also my personal beliefs.

The reason I became a Moderator in the first place was because I was tired of seeing new members who legitimately just wanted to get better at their craft become so disheartened due to all of the "bullies" in showcase, don't get me wrong they were also elitists but bullies foremost.

I like to play Devil's Advocate in some topics, just to see the non-competitive merits of some cards.

And I appreciate that, I do.

So how do I get people here to not think of me as an idiot?

You're not an idiot. You just take things far too personally to where people can easily condescend onto you.

So how do we deal with people like Thar, who are incredibly in-your-face with their trolling, and do not let you ignore them?

What Aix said.

JESUS MAN

COVER THAT s*** UP

YOUR BLOCKED MEMBER LIST IS LIKE YOUR DICK MAN. WAY TO SHORT AND NEEDS TO BE SEEN LESS.

Would it be ironic if I said I wasn't blocking anyone, but totally agreed with Ain on what it means?

This exists?

We went over the basics, but the idea is elitism here. I am a f***ing douche to anyone who needs to be put in their place. If anyone puts me in my place, great, I deserve it. But the problem is, the social hierarchy of YCM is dragged on by such Elitist that build it, and the bullying is only a form taking by perception in most degrees. I remember one time where I was trying to argue my attitude to about three people just because I told someone to grow up and stop being selfish over something that was more important to another. People took it the wrong way for no reason and thought of it as bullying, but it was the passive anger over different topics because someone needed to be "put in their place". That is really why I mostly get into arguments, and that is why I usually am able to constantly preach the same ideas.

Now, I am annoying as f*** when it comes to anything I actually care about, but I am knowledgeable about said topics, which gives me information to speak about; Mostly why I am annoying. I am also one of the biggest flirts on this site. Anyone who doesn't get on my nerves, I am going to flirt with you no matter what just for the hell. Most people take it in good conscious because they know that I mean no harm by it and it usually it just a funny thing in the moment. But elitism is going to be a big effort for things like this solely because of social hierarchy and the power that it has, as you pretty much summed up, Striker.

Also, if you're a bully just for the hell of bullying (constantly, everyone is a bully once in a while, that is just human nature), grow the f*** up. Plain and simple, you're stupid enough to create problems because your problems are horrible and you need a sense of pleasure in your life. Which is not a bad thing, but how someone goes about is. And I can't stop staring at Thar's sig right now, so this is done.

fuck is the best curse word, I use it way too much, though.

I've been keeping up with the comments the past 3 hours through my smartphone due to obligations, so I have an idea of what has been going on. Having said that, this is the kind of discussion that I hoped would happen: a discussion where all of us would come together and discuss an issue that is relevant to everyone. Pointing out a comment that Aix made, I understand that there is no magical reset button in life. The closest example I could think of is the transition from high school into college. What I am saying is that people should be able to rectify past mistakes and move on. As to whether the mods should get involved, yes. The mods are meant to provide order. While I have no problem with people joking around with each other, but one should not be put down by others. And yes, the weak don't want to be considered weaker so they don't report the problems they are facing. So, I feel the process of resolving issues should feel more accepting with some sort of insurance that things won't get worse for speaking up about said issues.

What I am saying is that people should be able to rectify past mistakes and move on.

Technically, this one has it's own little trick to it, in the sense that it's based primarily on what someone did at such and such time, and how it effected [X], [Y], and/or [Z].
Or to simplify it: Sometimes it just takes a while, even with the traditional method of making up for things.
....Or something like that.

Thing about rectifying the past is that you can't.  These things take time, and only that flow of time will rectify said actions.  That being said, what you do after you are shunned by an initial event that caused the former is what will speed up the flow of time in which it takes for your previous actions to be forgotten and forgiven.  I would know, and so would many of those who posted here.

And while bullying is an issue, I have to come to terms with Daemon.  It's immature, but the best way to get past it is to ignore those malicious "attacks".  Unless they are direct, you'll usually be taking them out of context.  That only adds fire to the flame and feeds the beast.  When you feed the beast it breaks out of it's cage and grabs you by your wind pipe.  When you get grabbed by your windpipe, you slowly pass out and become a victim of bestiality-monster-tentacle rape.  Don't become a victim of bestiality-monster-tentacle rape.  Get rid of cable, and upgrade to DirectTv.

. .  .

. . .

. . .

What were we talking about again?

I haven't exactly been around besides poking into Showcase, so can someone explain to me exactly what this forum-wide problem is? From what I can gather, it sounds like your average case of nooblets having to tolerate some shit before they metamorphose into "elite" butterflies, which, as far I'm concerned, has been happening since this forum's beginning.

That's all about right.

I swear half of this is blown out of proportion.

But the issue also lies with these elites at times.

Out of curiosity, and with regards to this topic-
Does anyone look up to other members on this site?

To be honest, nop. As I only browse the animu/gaemz/occasionally clubs section, I dunno the hierarchy of everyone here in regards to actually card making, or yugioh. So far everyone here's either someone I view as a respectable equal, or a respectable stranger I don't know well enough to make the judgement.

Another issue could be.

Some people want to be respected before giving respect. Which is a hilarious double-edged sword. Treat people how you want to be treated. You can already guess the problem here. Some of the population has a tight ego and refuses to yield. They "Want" respect, but they don't give it until THEY receive it, so they treat people like s***, and get treated like s*** in return, causing a neverending cycle of bickering until someone is man enough to stand up and say "f*** it, I'm done."

Another issue I'm noticing, is that some people post their views on a deck/topic (IE: Opinion), and people literally take offense to it and jump down their throat without giving too much of a reason why. This sorta ties in to the next point.

This next issue isn't limited to YCM, but card game/video game forums in general. Some people KNOW they are extremely intelligent (like myself, and many others) in terms of academics. But when it comes to card games, they could be a complete noob(cough*TechGenusMaster*cough/joke), or just flat out unable to recgonize card comboes and potentials. Theres also people that aren't able to recgonize extremely obvious comboes, but are able to string together the really random and weird ones that seem situational. And yet, their creativity is met with responses of "You suck", "You f***ing idiot", and other varitions of hostility.

And lastly.

INTERNET SARCASM

This is a major major point. Sarcasm is constantly used on this board, and quite a few people don't know how to identify it, and as such get ridiculed when they don't notice it. We've all had this happen to us at some point or another. Because in words on a page, you can't exactly tell if they are being sarcastic or not, unless its accompanied by an italics or something else, whereas in life, you have body language, posture, and tone of voice to determine if they are being sarcastic or not. All 3 of which are not present over the internet.

I don't know how to exactly fix these. As you can't exactly enforce behavior over the internet. Its all up to the willingness of the person. Stubborn and egotistical people are always going to be a problem. But they have as much right to be here as the rest of us. And really, who are we, to criticize someone for being who they are? Doing so only leads to arguments, anger, or in the extreme cases, death (See: The thousands/millions of cyber-bullying related suicides).

Not always true, though you're certainly not WRONG. I've been told numerous times that I have a very dry sense of humor, and it's actually difficult to tell when I'm being sarcastic compared to my usual tone, despite my efforts to at times exaggerate my sarcastic tone.

Then again, some people I work with can't tell when I'm being serious, either.

Sarcasm is usually pretty recognizable actually like Mugen said.

You @#&*$ing #@*(#$ don't #@$ing deserve respect like I do. I should be #$@%ing top dog here.

I fail to see how the point about different intelligences fit into here and "creativity" is only met with ridicule when the combos are inconsistent and impractical. In the cases I've seen where things have escalated in the Deck section, people actually do give their reasons, though admittedly with a touch of ego.
Or put a little fence around it, I'm not too picky.
No but seriously, any attempt to "solve" anything here is going to be met with "Eh, sure, do what you want." And then no one will do anything differently.

And even past that, this seems more like a problem you seem to have more than others on this site.

Also, I did not realize there were 6 pages after that... uh... yeah. More people. Whatever. NOT LIKE I'M EVER HERE OFTEN ENOUGH.

The idea we're looking for with "intelligent members" is someone who's willing to take criticism and tips, learn, get better, and who doesn't act like they already know everything.

Of course we don't expect new members to come in and perfectly know enough to make a point everyone agrees with or is perfect in its logic, while still offering a new perspective. We don't expect that of them. What we expect of them is not to act like they do and can. I'd say that's been the biggest issue and complaint we've had about new members and where this whole argument really sprouted from.

Does anyone here actually remember me back when I entered as Kenta the Forbidden One? Because back then I was the typical noob. I had no knowledge on the game. I acted stupid. I didn't care what I looked like - simply jumping around the place without a single thought. Everyone hated me back then. And really, I deserved it.

Except I learnt. It eventually came to me that YCM was the same as real life, and that you needed to blend into the flow of the society to make your own respected space. I took critisism, gradually altered my character; learnt how to make comments that make me look smart, when in fact I'm not. Obtaining competitive skills on the game helped me take a seat in the TCG section, and when I realized, somehow I was suddenly in the center of this gigantic cult, respected for no real apparent reason.

Coming from my experience, anyone can become popular in the internet, as long as he/she wishes to learn. Those who are hated are hated because they don't know how to accept, and people like those will be isolated in virtually any community, really. There is absolutely no problem with how YCM, or the internet itself for that matter, tends to treat noobs.
