Xirasia: Waiting for the Rain

An Original RP by Giga Drill Breaker
This story takes place on a world similar to our own, though at the same time very different. Welcome to Xirasia, land of deserts. This is a world of excess and glamour, and yet also a world of inequality and violence. The greatest of these inequalities is that between regular human beings, like those who live in our own world, and the Choria, a race of special beings with various advantages over the typical human. The greatest of these is Anthisi, the ability to release one's own will in the form of energy. This energy can be released through various means, such as heat, electricity, or physical superiority. Despite these advantages, the Choria are a vast minority, making up approximately 25% of the world's population and, as are most other minorities, they are heavily discriminated upon by humans. They are forced into menial labor, just short of slavery, and disallowed from owning any property that they cannot carry on their person. Although they typically do not openly resist, the Choria understand how terrible the system is and seek a way out.
The technology of the world of Xirasia is primarily steam-based, using the oil imported from Thermotita as fuel. Electricity is known of, but not used due to the fact that it cannot be produced in respectable quantities due limitations in the current knowledge of the field. The steam technology used is relatively advanced, making efficient use of water to counteract its scarcity. The primary mode of transportation inside cities is by walking, though camel-driven carriages do exist for those who are fortunate enough to afford the fee. Transportation between cities is achieved by an extensive train network, though once again the cost is prohibitive to most, so many residents never see any city other than the one that they were born in. For those that need to reach another city, the options are limited to stowing away on a train or trade caravan, or hiring a guide to cross the desert on foot or with a camel. Rifles exist, though they are troublesome to reload and not very accurate as a whole.

Due to the primarily intolerable climate of Xirasia, each major city is located around a large Oasis, that the city uses as its primary (if not only) water supply. Each of the cities serves one primary function in the Xirasian industry, from mining, to manufacturing, to agriculture. The exception to this is Xiros, the capitol city, which has no exports.

Erimos is the second largest of the cities, and exports grain and other produce to the other cities. The majority of this city is farmland, working with an aqueduct system to distribute water from the oasis throughout the city.

Ammos, the smallest of the cities, sits above a cavern system used for mining. Exports include raw gems, metal ores, and quarried stone for construction.

Ammolofos is the most heavily industrialized city, full of factories and sweat-shops. Its tasks include refining oil from Thermotita, smelting ores and cutting gems from Ammos, and sorting and shucking produce from Erimos.

Named after the land upon which it sits, Xiros is both the world's capitol as well as its largest city. Xiros receives imports from each of the other cities, exporting nothing. 40% of the human population lives in Xiros, creating an urban environment where few live high and the rest are squashed beneath the boots of the former. The Choria in Xiros work as maids or butlers, if they manage to work at all. Despite its capitol status and income, Xiros also has the highest rate of poverty among all of the cities.

Named after the Choria's Patron Goddess Vrochi, this city is spoken of only in angry shouts and hopeful whispers. It is a refuge for Choria who manage to reach it, sovereign from the other cities and their discrimination. Vrochi works off of a democracy, and works hard to conceal its presence from the rest of the world so as to protect its citizens. Though almost all, Humans and Choria alike, have heard of Vrochi, few acknowledge its existence, and fewer still manage to see it.

Each and every Choria has a distinct birthmark somewhere on their body, some with it in more conspicuous areas than others. No matter where it is, each Choria is required to keep it in as clear of view as possible, so as to assist with identification.  Despite this law, some Choria choose to conceal their mark, pretending to be Human. The punishment for such a crime is to spend the rest of one's life in prison, or to be exiled from the city to fend for one's self in the desert.

Although no attempt at a large scale resistance has been made, there always has - and likely always will be - talk of hope for a better future. The stance of Vrochi is one of disassociation, only helping the Choria who come to it rather than attempting to liberate them from the other cities.
