[UPDATED] 'Lvl Rnk Dwn' (Anti-XYZ/Synchro)

Hi folks,

just a quick idea for a super simple card I had on my mind to disturb those Synchro/Xyz Summons. EDIT: Following the suggestions of 'A Background Character' and 'Dramatic Crossroad', I made a better version of this card and hope it now exceeds the card 'Mischief of the Yokai' in it's Level/Rank modulation possibilities. Thanks for your help! Thanks to the new character of the effect, it's now possible to even use the card for your monsters (to Summon some nice Rank 1 monsters or to modify your Synchro possibilities with the second effect from the Graveyard). I think it's a better card now overall; I also added some cost to make it (more) balanced. Please leave suggestions and/or feedback!

Thanks.

New lore:

---

Xyz Summons cannot be conducted this turn. You can pay 500 Life Points

and choose up to 3 face-up monsters on the field; their Level/Rank becomes 1

as long as they remain face-up on the field. During your Main Phase: You can

banish this card in your Graveyard to target 1 face-up monster on the field;

reduce it's Rank/Level by 2 until the End Phase.

It's pretty much outclassed by this, and usually it's better to just run cards that take out the Extra Deck monster when it hits the field (like Black Horn and the other staple Traps). Now, since this only drops them down by one, there will be many more cases where your opponent can still Summon something from the Extra Deck than there would be with Mischief of the Yokai and some other card that works like it that I can't remember despite having their Levels modified. IMO, the best way to use Level modulation to ruin ED plays would be to affect only some of the monsters, rather than all of them, and do something zany like making the afflicted monsters Level 12 or something. Even then, it would be worse than, say, Black Horn and BTH, so I want to say you should let it have a second modifying attempt from beyond the Grave, kinda like BTS does.

Thank you very much for your feedback!

I totally forgot about Mischief when making this card unfortunately, but I'm def going to add a second effect which activates from the Graveyard. I'll repost a better version of the card soon!  <_< On the other hand, your idea (making them all Lv12) is good as well, so I might consider adding something like that, too. Props for giving suggestions!

Does the decrease in Rank really do much agains Xyzs?... i mean, once they are Summoned there isn't much to do with their Ranks, unless you want to use a specific Ranked-Up Monster.

If you really want to block Synchros AND Xyz, a card that would be anti, more likely would have something like this as an effect (and be incredibly OP as well):

"Target all face-up monsters on the field; the targets cannot be used as Materials for the Summon of Monster(s) from the Extra Deck as long as face-up on the field."

Try "The Levels of all monsters with Levels on the Field becomes 1, also, the Ranks of all monsters with Ranks on the Field becomes 1."

I don't think Level/Rank split is a thing in yugioh.

Thanks Nightmare Stomper for the OCG fix! I'll def change the card's lore using this!  The thing with the Ranks though may be a part which probably won't make it into another version of this card (read below for reasons)

Hi Dramatic Crossroad,

I'd like to thank you for the feedback.  My intention with decreasing Ranks was to disturb Xyz Summons which can be done by using another Xyz as a Material (some of those cards say e.g.:

You can also Xyz Summon this card by using a Rank 6 or higher Xyz monster you control as the Xyz Material....

But you're absolutely right when saying that Rank decreases won't really help, so I'll change the card to do something more useful against Xyz Summons (maybe something like field column-specific Level drains and increases  :D  The card you described is OP indeed, but I like the main idea behind it, so making a weaker version of that card (''Target up to 3 monsters on the field; ...) wouldn't be a bad idea, right?

I want to thank you both for the help, I appreciate that!
